uBREAKiFIX Repair VS Google RMA - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

I've been having an issue with my phone having a loose speaker grill ( bottom speaker Mesh ) and have been afraid to send it to the warranty center because of how long the process takes.... i didn't want to do an advanced RMA, so had to do the standard one...
i called google a bit ago and they told me that in order for me not to get billed and have my phone same day i can go to uBreakiFIX physical location here in california and have them do the repair on it, they gave me the number so i called.....
when i called i explained the problem, and the tech was very kind about the whole deal.... asked me what was wrong, so i told him i had screen burn in and my speaker mesh was defective and he simply said to bring it in for a two hour repair... i called in at 5 pm pacific , and asked him what time her closed, he said 7 pm pacific, yet still told me to bring it in cause they would stay extra time to get my phone fixed after closing if needed, which i thought was awesome for him to even say...
i will be taking my phone in tomorrow to hopefully get the screen changed, (speaker mesh comes with new screen) and hopefully get a new battery for the phone as well... i mean.... if the battery has been discharging abnormally rapidly, why not change it at googles warranty expense at the same time they already have the phone open right??? I wanted to share this with the community just in case anyone had the worry of sending the phone in and being phoneless for about two weeks mind you this is just for certain states

Artemis reliability

Have I been unlucky?
Bought my P3300 SIM free in April, and all was well until July, then the screen developed a fault, so I returned it to HTC who replaced screen and main board - this caused major problems at Tom Tom, as the machine ID changed and just as I got that sorted the phone started to crash with increasing regularity, so I sent it back again, and new main board was provided... same old problems with Tom Tom (trick is to phone them, email etc, gets ignored)...
and another... and so on until...
Eventually they agreed to replace the phone entirely, though to be fair, the final one they actually replaced hadn't mis-behaved... New one came with WM6, and was prone to crashing, but I suspected it may be non-compatible apps, so I gradually removed applications - but it still tended to go blank, and then flatten the battery. Eventually it went blank and wouldn't switch on at all.
I sent it back just after xmas, and got an email today to say its been water damaged, and its dead and they can't repair it and won't replace it.
In the few weeks I had this phone its never been out of the house / car, and nothing has been spilt on it, nor has it been dropped in my tea... the external water sensitive label is ok, but (they claim) the internal one is showing water ingress. its not insured, so I now have a £450 ornament that I've had less than 6 months use out of. Have I been unlucky?

very. i've had my MDACIII for over a year now, and never had any problems. I dont paticularly look after it, its covered in dents and scratches from drunk nights out... i use it in the rain too, so its been wet a few times. Never had to send it back, and only had to do a hard reset once (too much randomly installing/uninstalling software)
Hope u have better luck next time!
Sorry to hear about your phone. It's strange because one of the main reasons I bought the Artemis was because of it's reliability. I had been searching the forums for months and couldn't find many if any failures like this. However, the other phones I was considering did have these kinds of problems quite commonly (Trinity & Eten X500). I've had my phone since Sept and I haven't had any problems with it.

hey JemHayward
ok let me help you out here, looks like there playing a little dirty with you here, first your phone has constant problems, so many repairs then you get a replacement ( the replacement is not a new phone but its a reconditioned phone) its a old phone repaired with new covers ( cool hey)
and now they say it has water damage ( but the water indicator on the outside is good) thats enough info for me.
if your phone had been by water BOTH indicators would show up.
please write a letter ( not a e-mail) and make sure you also make an appointment with your lawer and get him to put a signature on it too. send the mail recorded delivery and sit back and wait.
there is no possible way they can tell you that your warrenty is void.
if you do not hear from them within 2 weeks of the letter being received then your lawer will take it over for you.
i will be watching over this one and will be smiling once your new phone is on the way.
good luck.
I've written a letter.... so far no reply, but last time it took them a month to reply, then again, it's better than e-mail, they don't seem to reply to that at all. The status at the repair centre is "on-hold" whatever that means.
I've just discovered its not insured.

at least the letter is sent, its just funny how they say its water damage and the first line of defence (water indicator) is not showing.
just keep the pressure on at them, and then you can always ask compensation because of the amount of time you have been without a phone in fully working order
give em hell.
It's amazingly difficult to "give them hell" when they take ages to reply to letters and their phone system is inpenetrable... very nice lady who's english is poor takes ten minutes collecting your name, address and full details, then says no-one available we'll phone back, and of course, they don't... email is ignored. I may try driving to their offices and banging on the door.

Epic 4g, Repair Options.

about 2 days ago my phone fell from a table flat into the floor, it now has a dead pixel and a vertical blue line going across the screen, the blue line does not show up on black background but when it displays other colors it is very prominent. I've searched the forums and while I feel confident I can replace the screen myself I wanna know if I have any "cheaper" or price comparable options from the sprint/manufacturer/warranty side before I attempt a DIY. my phone as it happens is only about 1 month old but has been rooted and flashed at least twice.
so the question is: what are my options?
Take it in to the Sprint Store. I don't remember pricing but while Sprint strongly recommends do not root your phone, it's not a policy they enforce. Might cost you $35, if you have TEP it might cost you nothing.
Just take it in and say it fell off the table and show them, then ask how much.... worth a try a least.
There's another thread here with some repair options, you can check them out too.
Edit: Here it is.
If you tell them it fell off the table they will charge you $100 for a replacement if you have insurance or tell you you have to buy a new phone if you don't. You would need a SUPER friendly tech to offer to fix it....which the odds are severely against you.
sweet, i'll try that today, I know a girl on my sprint store that fits the super friendly bill.
Good luck. I wouldn't mention the fall though.

If Sprint doesn't fix it for you, try checking the connection between the screen and the phone.
The bottom of my phone's display looked corrupted and I fixed it by reinserting the ribbon cable connecting to the screen. I guess it somehow loosened on its own.

YES, loose connection!!!!
Etirkca, thank you SO much for tossing your experience in at the end there!!! You've given me a quick shift from despondent and grasping to very optimistic and focused! to
My screen went completely dead today (and has stayed that way) at some unknown specific point but following a series of pretty hard-hitting drops of late. I quickly noted that the sound was still functioning when I tried to restart what I initially thought was a phone that had simply powered itself down. Felt like I was deducing in the right direction when I observed that the LED indicator appeared to be non-functional as well. Anyhow, cutting to the chase, had come up with power supply problem to the top-half of the phone as my leading theory before I headed over here to look for some answers/help and was directed to this thread as my very first hit and with your post at least confirming the possibility/likelihood I've got a minor problem, not the potentially huge, expensive one I'd feared.
So, thanks again, but thought I'd hit you up to see if there's any quickie web page you can direct me to which'll show me how to get at that connector. I've no doubt I'll be able to find drawings/instructions on my own, if necessary, but since I'm full newbie to this site and very much an average, amateur tinkerer (as opposed to legit tech) it seems worth asking you and the group for direction on my next step.
Thanks again and in advance! --

There are tons of great vids on how to take the phone apart... google it and watch the video.... its really pretty simple... if you know how to take the phone apart it will be very obvious as to the ribon which may have become disconnected
Follow up/Resolution
Just wanted to close the issue in case anyone should run across this thread in the future and my experience can help them find a solution.
Was actually looking forward to taking my phone apart and giving a fix a try but my lazy/practical side decided to pop into my local Sprint store just to see if there was any chance I could get them to take a look without charging me for anything. Surprisingly, the rep I spoke with took the phone to a tech on the spot and the tech dropped what he was doing to open it up and take a look. Ten minutes later the tech handed me my fully-functioning phone and said the ribbon had been torn completely in half! He said this situation was not uncommon after a year-and-a-half of sliding the keyboard open and closed, again and again. No charge, didn't even write up a ticket as far as I know. Probably got lucky in going into the store about an hour before close on a Thursday night. I'm CERTAIN (based on previous Sprint experience) I wouldn't have received that sort of service if I'd happened in at a busier time.
But worth noting that the ribbon had ripped completely through without any particular drop or other incident and with no prior intermittent performance or any indication something was about to go seriously wrong.

Water damage Gnex- India

So nearly a week ago, i was travelling by bike. It started raining ridiculously, i had kept my phone in a plastic bag in the pocket of my windcheater. Somehow, the water entered my phone, i travelled nearly 20 kms without realising the water had already done the damage to my phone.
I reached home and saw what had happened, immediately took out my battery, cleaned my phone with a dry cloth and used hair dryer for about 30 mins. I knew the damage had already been done, coz the phone flashed a red led light indicating water damage.
I opened up the phone, saw the water marker stickers were in a perfect condition no change in color whatsoever, kept my phone in rice for about 12 hours and next morning i plugged in battery to see if it works, no result. PHONE WAS DEAD.
I took it to local repair shop, gave me an estimate, the phone worked for a min and then bam display was flashing on and off. Decided to take it to samsung svc, at first they denied repairing it since GNEX isnt available officially in India. So, gave them my phone and today got an estimate. Costs almost 200$ to replace the mobo! I was shocked! Anyway, my question is should i get my phone repaired? Can i get the parts from outside and get it repaired(not in samsung svc, it took them 4 days just to tell me estimate!)
Any idea which place in mumbai is good for repairing cell phones?
Thanks!

Try Indraprasth (Borivli), Alfa (Irla - Andheri) or maybe Heera Pana (Haji Ali - Mumbai Central). Good Luck

Are they really supposed to do that? red light=water damage? never heard of that. Was it the notification LED?

Did you use hot air? because that might be what have killed it. Plastic and hot hair don't always mix well, just like electronics and water.
Thanks for the reply guys. Tried indraprasth, first they said it will cost Rs.2500, now they are saying will cost more than Rs.5-6k and still no guarantee if it will work! So went ahead and gave it in samsung. Estimate is around 8k! I used hair dryer in normal/mode for about 30 mins and then in hot mode for 5 mins. When i tried to start the phone, the phone just flashed red led notification light and since then never turned on!
I dont know how much time it will take, even i know spending 8k on repairs is not a good idea, but this is my second phone in a year so had no option to buy nexus 4! Well will wait for the next nexus till then.

Hi! Im also facing a similar situation. Water entered in my phone on 9th June, I tried to turn on the phone but it wont start. I removed the battery and kept my phone in a bag of rice for almost 10 days. charged my battery using an external charger but the phone wont turn on
I would like to know what exactly the repair guy told u in indraprasth and which service center did u give ur phone. I don't want my nexus to die. I stay in borivali and any info from ur side will be really helpful.

The guy at indraprasth told me that water had entered the phone internals. Including earpiece, motherboard and display. My mobo worked fine for a sec or two and then the phone wud switch off again. After many tries the phone was dead. Then he said he can repair the phone(p.s smartphones cannot be repaired if mobo is damaged, only replaced) but there's no guarantee it will work. Then i went to samsung, they gave me an estimate of 8k +-1k. I will also get a warranty for a month, strange since this phone wasnt launched in India.
All the best, i would suggest go to authorised svc first and if you think the price is too high, then go to local.

Thanks for your reply. I went to Indraprasth and the guy said my phone is 'dead'. It cannot be repaired and it has to be replaced but he said it's better u don't do anything as its gonna cost u heaven and plus spares are not easily available. So now i have no option left but to go to an authorized service center. I would like to know what exactly the service center guy told you that's not working and needs a replacement and have u received your phone back from the center and is it working properly? I have sent u a direct message pls do check it and revert back when free. Thanks.

LG G3- Warranty Void After Dropping Phone

Some advice please
So a while back my G3 suddenly wasn't able to find any coverage most places I went. Nothing else was wrong with it, it was just that there was no mobile coverage 80% of the time. The problem occurred one day as it was just in my pocket, nothing was wrong with it beforehand.
So, of course, I took it to the warranty service to get it repaired. Now, the phone's been dropped a bunch of times and it has some tiny scratches on the display and one on the back. It's definitely possible that the my problem occurred due to dropping it but, as I said, when it broke, it hadn't been dropped in some time.
In a few days, I get a phone call in which they tell me that the phone has been repetitively dropped, as can be seen by the scratches, and the motherboard and some module(don't know what exactly they were referring to) must be replaced. Now, obviously, the warranty doesn't cover mechanical damage so it's a paid service. The amount they asked for was around 430 dollars. Now, I'm obviously not going to pay a 430 dollars as I can just get a new phone for that money but I just came here to ask, if I take it to another service, would it be possible to be fixed and, theoretically, for what price?
Thank you in advance!

honor 8 pro dead.

I dropped my honor 8 pro in water and it was been dead for some time, around 15 days. then one day I tried switching on and the power came on. I could make calls or receive messages but the camera and the fingerprint sensor were not responding. But when the phone goes into display off mode the display doesn't turn on again, unless I restart the phone. But the phone ringed if any call was made ,since the screen didn't display i couldn't receive the call.
So, gave it to a service center where they kept the phone for a month and then when I called them after a month they said the motherboard is dead and it will cost me 20k for a new one. i smell something fishy here. was my motherboard really dead? if so how come i could switch it on and even make calls? and why did they take 1 month to make the diagnosis? and does the honor 8 pro motherboard cost 20k?
please help.
Chances are high in motherboard damaged when drops in water . They will test in various aspects so it may took time nothing is fishy u purchase a new mobile rather giving 20k
Motherboard has all the parts attached one or the another way, they are may be right. Don't waste 20k on dead phone. Go for new one.

New phone is available in 20k ... Dont waste money
I had something similar happen to my phone it got water damage and went in lock mode 20 days later turned back on everything fine but a few days after wifi and booth stopped working in my case I would have to replace the wifi and Bluetooth module on the motherboard which is extremely hard to find for some reason, however, in your case, I think since u sead the phone still works, it just has calls problems u only have to change the communications board which tends to be a lot cheaper then the motherboard in most smartphones hower again this component is really hard to find and therefore can be quite expensive because there is a very low supply compared to the demand which is not huge. however, one thing that u can try which is not guaranteed to work but has a 50%chance is a chemical bath which the will provide in some phone repair centers
