So nearly a week ago, i was travelling by bike. It started raining ridiculously, i had kept my phone in a plastic bag in the pocket of my windcheater. Somehow, the water entered my phone, i travelled nearly 20 kms without realising the water had already done the damage to my phone.
I reached home and saw what had happened, immediately took out my battery, cleaned my phone with a dry cloth and used hair dryer for about 30 mins. I knew the damage had already been done, coz the phone flashed a red led light indicating water damage.
I opened up the phone, saw the water marker stickers were in a perfect condition no change in color whatsoever, kept my phone in rice for about 12 hours and next morning i plugged in battery to see if it works, no result. PHONE WAS DEAD.
I took it to local repair shop, gave me an estimate, the phone worked for a min and then bam display was flashing on and off. Decided to take it to samsung svc, at first they denied repairing it since GNEX isnt available officially in India. So, gave them my phone and today got an estimate. Costs almost 200$ to replace the mobo! I was shocked! Anyway, my question is should i get my phone repaired? Can i get the parts from outside and get it repaired(not in samsung svc, it took them 4 days just to tell me estimate!)
Any idea which place in mumbai is good for repairing cell phones?

Did you use hot air? because that might be what have killed it. Plastic and hot hair don't always mix well, just like electronics and water.
Thanks for the reply guys. Tried indraprasth, first they said it will cost Rs.2500, now they are saying will cost more than Rs.5-6k and still no guarantee if it will work! So went ahead and gave it in samsung. Estimate is around 8k! I used hair dryer in normal/mode for about 30 mins and then in hot mode for 5 mins. When i tried to start the phone, the phone just flashed red led notification light and since then never turned on!
I dont know how much time it will take, even i know spending 8k on repairs is not a good idea, but this is my second phone in a year so had no option to buy nexus 4! Well will wait for the next nexus till then.

Hi! Im also facing a similar situation. Water entered in my phone on 9th June, I tried to turn on the phone but it wont start. I removed the battery and kept my phone in a bag of rice for almost 10 days. charged my battery using an external charger but the phone wont turn on
I would like to know what exactly the repair guy told u in indraprasth and which service center did u give ur phone. I don't want my nexus to die. I stay in borivali and any info from ur side will be really helpful.

The guy at indraprasth told me that water had entered the phone internals. Including earpiece,motherboard and display. My mobo worked fine for a sec or two and then the phone wud switch off again. After many tries the phone was dead. Then he said he can repair the phone(p.s smartphones cannot be repaired if mobo is damaged, only replaced) but there's no guarantee it will work. Then i went to samsung, they gave me an estimate of 8k +-1k. I will also get a warranty for a month, strange since this phone wasnt launched in India.
All the best, i would suggest go to authorised svc first and if you think the price is too high, then go to local.

Thanks for your reply. I went to Indraprasth and the guy said my phone is 'dead'. It cannot be repaired and it has to be replaced but he said it's better u don't do anything as its gonna cost u heaven and plus spares are not easily available. So now i have no option left but to go to an authorized service center. I would like to know what exactly the service center guy told you that's not working and needs a replacement and have u received your phone back from the center and is it working properly? I have sent u a direct message pls do check it and revert back when free. Thanks.

Ok, what happened here is my phone went to swim with me crying.
I tried to dry up the phone, but I still can't turn it on. Then, I send my phone via my carrier (Rogers Canada in my case) for repair. Of course, I am pretending to be innocent saying I don't know what happened to my phone, and I just can't turn it on. Then HTC (I suppose it is some outsourced place, but should be licensed under HTC) told me that there are COLLISION on the mother board and somewhere else, which is ridiculous. There is one much more ridiculous thing: the repair is going to cost

Of course, I am not asking them to repair for me. I just want to share how ridiculous it is, and if you guys can gimme some hints on how I can have it repaired, that will be great.

If you're lucky the phone might magically just turn on, on any given day. I've seen that happen

I will agree with you there, 1000 bucks to fix a phone is way overboard. Unless theres some conversion were missing. like 400 USD = 1000 what ever lol

It's 1000 CAD, which equals around 930 USD.
This doesn't even sound right. How can the repair cost more than the actual cost of the device. I'd look for another repair option.

Diagnostics, manual assembly, etc. Very little can be reliably salvaged from a water damaged phone. Assume everything but the case needs replacing. It's what's known as a write-off.

I've washed them full cycle several times. Each time when I found my phone i soaked them in alcohol and agitated them for about 20 minutes fully submerged. Then I use a toaster oven and dried them out with gentle heat and by sucking air into the phone about 20 times. All of them worked again. Even an iPhone once. Yes, I said full cycle. I found my phone in the when I was loading the dryer. Have I been lucky? I dunno. Many find this hard to believe, but it's true. I put a charging port in my girlfriends note 2. It came from a water damaged Note 2. It was sitting in parts for 2 months. I figured it was dry because it was sitting in open air. Well I put it in and it worked. A week later she lost data and voice. Long story short, that chargign port wrecked everything in the Note 2. When they opened it up, it has white fungus looking corrosion working halfway up the phone in three spots. It absolutely ruined the Note 2 and an insurance claim had to be made. It can go ether way, saved or junked. Just depends on the conditions.

Wow, I guess you don't learn fast.
Water damaged vs got wet.
If you're quick enough and use the correct method and lucky, you may get the thing working again, but I'd hardly say reliably. HTC or any repair centre are hardly going to want to provide a 3 month warranty on a repair of a phone that's got wet without replacing everything that can be damaged by water.
The sum of the parts is greater then the price of the item.
Thats why we have chop shops. Some cars are worth more when parted out and the pieces are sold individually.
So if each component was being sold to him at retail pricing, add labor and whola, higher price.
Basically what happened, was on Friday, my phone got stuck in a boot loop. It would get to the "Optimizing Apps" screen and shut off again. Other people may just get to the Verizon screen, or even just the LG screen. I looked it up and found that it was a major issue affecting many people, so I just filed for a warranty and received my new phone today. Well, on Saturday night LinusTechTips, a popular tech YouTube channel(You should really check them out, they are great), released a video on how they fixed a dead Graphics Card and PCI-E SSD by heating them up past the melting point of solder and then testing them. For them, it only worked on the GPU. As I was packing up my seemingly dead phone to ship back to LG TODAY, i decided to give it one more shot. I disassembled the device to the point where I could take out the logic board. I took the logic board and wrapped it in one layer of parchment paper and two layers of tinfoil, shiny side facing in(FYI tinfoil has two sides, shiny and matte). I then placed this package into a barbecue. I turned on the left and middle burners and left the package with my logic board inside on the right side to the grill so it wasn't receiving direct heat. After 10 minutes, I took it out, re-assembled my phone and it booted. I was able to get all of my pictures off of it. This has only been confirmed to work on my phone, but seeing as this SAME issue is affecting thousands of people, It's definitely worth a shot. If you are going to use an oven, PLEASE, make sure it's above 385 degrees Fahrenheit and that you don't plan on using that oven for food ever again, this may release some toxic chemicals etc. I plan on using my grill again, so I just made sure to leave the grill open for 24 hours and I'm going to clean it before I use it next. If you have any questions let me know!
P.S. My LG G4 was the Verizon model.
I highly recommend doing this ONLY if you have no other option. Remember that heating a logic board to high temperatures can release toxic fumes. Don't use an oven you use for food preparation! Toxic fumes can leave residue in the oven and will be re-released upon reheating over many cycles!
Assuming LG's press release regarding the issue is correct and it is really a loose contact, this "fix" could actually work. Of course, only if the loose connection is a soldered connection. Though, it's controversial. You have to remember that the melting point for SMD solder is around ~350°C, or 662°F. So 358°F, or 181°C, is not nearly enough to actually re-solder a loose connection. My guess is that the loose solder point is only expanding due to the heat. There is no real reconnect. It might only be a matter of time until it also breaks. If you could locate the actual loose connection you could really re-solder it and have it fixed permanently.
I've done this on many many devices, including graphics cards, smartphone logic boards, PC mainboards etc. It only works if a soldered connection has a crack small enough that heat expansion is enough to gain reconnection. If there is a loose contact on the PCB or the "crack" in the solder is too big, it does not work. Also, if you really have a dead chip, this trick also won't (always) work.
I read a similar story on reddit. The guy put his main board in the oven, reassembled it, and the phone started working. The last update I read was 3 days later, still working.
I fixed mine temporarily by heating up the emmc chip using solder hot air gun. It seems to be just the emmc chips connection.
Failed again after a fortnight when the phone got too hot. The connection seems to break when the g4 gets hot.
One option to try is to boot the phone inside a freezer. I found that worked too.
Pretty poor quality control on lg's part.
I'm going to try again and see if I can fix permanently.

I have a LG G4 H815 with serial number starting with 507. It died yesterday night. The bootloop escalated quickly to full death. Even the freezer trick did not work.
I followed the OP instructions. I heated up the grill to ~250 degrees Celsius and cooked the motherboard for 10 minutes.
Magically the phone has been working for a couple of hours since and I have been able to backup files to the external SC card.
I wonder how much more will it work.

Word of advice to other LG G4 users. Backup your phone regularly. Use an external SD card. Set the camera to save images and videos to the SD card. At least at doom day you will have them saved.

Actually it worked on BOTH G4s I have. I first just went dead and I bought a used one for $100 on eBay and it worked fine until the bootloop showed up.

Now it's basically bricked; no amount of charging or holding power/volume button combos can wake it up. It's not detected by my PC over USB and display/notification light stays off. I'm currently leaving it off the charger for a few days in the hope it's a hard software lockup that needs the battery to drain before it will reset and power on again, but I'm not hopeful. I haven't had any water-related incidents with the phone, about the wettest it's gotten is in my shorts pocket at the gym, but I don't sweat much so pretty confident it's not water damage. Anyone got any advice aside from sending it back to Xiaomi for repair?

I was reflashing my mi6 through the TWRP recovery and the process was stuck at 99%. I waited some amount of time and decided to "reboot" it. So I held down the power button and turned it off. Since then my phone doesn't react on the power button anymore. I have exactly the same symptoms like you described. In my case, it is my fault but I thought it should only update some files in the internal storage, nothing more. I'm puzzled how could it turn into the brick because of that. I expected that at least the screen would turn on.
Also, as far as I can tell, a charged phone can stay in the off state for months. I think you need to find a better way to drain its battery. You may try to connect an external HDD through OTG cable.
So, I was able to unbrick my phone. It was unlocked, so if yours is locked you probably need to disassemble it and put to the EDL mode with help of the tweezers. Try to connect your phone to the Windows PC. Windows 10 detects and installs Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 driver automatically. After that, you need to download MIUI ROM Flashing Tool and a fastboot ROM for Mi6 from here h t t p : / / en.miui.com/a-234.html. Unpack ROM's archive to some directory, open the Flashing tool, click "Browse" button, navigate to that directory, then click "Update" and "Flash" buttons. It helped me.
Thank you very much for the extra information. In the end I decided to send it back to Xiaomi for repair, but I'll keep your tips in mind for next time in case it happens again. Honestly though, this is a pretty huge design flaw if the phone does need to be hard power-cycled every so often due to an OS crash. I've been very underwhelmed with MIUI too, so I may end up just selling the device once I get it back and switching to the most popular Lineage OS phone of the moment.
A riveting update for those on the edge of their seats, turns out this was a fault in the mainboard and they had to replace the part. Wowee, what a plot twist! Phone is back in working order now.

It was a combination of factors: I live in Australia and bought the phone from a Hong Kong eBay seller (everything takes 3-4 weeks between asia/Australia unless you pay for express shipping), and they had to send it back to Xiaomi's repair centre there, and Xiaomi had it for a week or two, so it all took quite a while to get back. The joys of buying a phone on the grey market. This is the one area that Apple service shines.

Seems my mi6 has the same bug, most likely its gone to mobile heaven now.

I think defects are normal with these high tech smartphones. Quality control cant see the small issues that manifest themselves into mobile deaths over time.
You have just found other like minded people with the same problem here.
People without the issue are staying quiet haha.
Companies usually just build in these defects into their projections and swap out the device when needed.
I think most people who have warranty issues with Xioami are the ones like me who buy through third parties.
So you have to return the phone to seller. They then return it to their supplier who then passes it onto Xiaomi for warranty.
That's where the long wait times come from for international owners.
I had more issues with Sony and even with warranty directly with Sony my phone was returned bent from a warranty covered screen replacement.
They fix one problem and create another. At least with Xiaomi I'm seeing people get the phone repaired and that's the problem solved

The problem is when I try to email or call them, I get nowhere. There is no response to any communication with LeEco. Does anyone have any ability to initiate a warranty claim and an RMA? I just need a replacement and am not looking for a refund or anything. I'm in the US.
Please help - I feel like I just lost $200 if I can't reach anyone over at LeEco.
Purchased the phone at Best Buy and in calling them they gave me a number that doesn't exist for support at LeEco.
Do I have any recourse with Best Buy?

I dont know if you guys live in a humid climate or not but for the hell of it , put it in bag of rice seal good and let it sit for 24 hours can't hurt. Maybe moisture got in there

Phones don't die just like that, in your case, it's either the battery, or a hard brick, or a defective screen. You should better change the battery and try to flash stock software afterwards if battery doesn't work, then you go for the screen, also the chargers that LeEco provides are crappy so it maybe went "out" and afterwards you went out of battery, try to charge with a different cable and charger. It doesn't respond to ANYTHING? Like if you press the power button for 10+ seconds does it vibrate? Like it doesn't even show boot screen or smth? Need more info for a better diagnosis. Also, doesn't matter if the phone is fully stock, anything could have been a factor leading to hard brick, which is most likely your case.. It's like most certainly the battery or a hard brick, may be a bad screen, one of those 3 for sure though. I vote for hard brick and dead battery . Happened to me on my 1+1.. I had no hope that the phone was ever gonna be usable, though that the cost would be higher than the ceiling, it turns out that it was just 8$, a new battery.. I have much much experience with smartphones, used to run my own repair and sell shop. It's up to you if you wanna follow my advise for free, or visit a fellow repairman . Did you purchase your phone with a credit card? Most have extended warranty programs. I'd go that route and see if you can get your money back. They generally don't kick in until the manufacturer warranty expires but it looks like the manufacturer is out to lunch. Doesn't hurt to try.
Hi well my charger burned in the Le Eco Le Pro 3 while charging and now the phone wouldn't charge. Mind you it's and excellent phone and while my warranty comes to an end in October I can't get in contact with the manufacturer. It's really annoying because I only want that part fixed.
Has anyone managed to get in contact with them please help.

Legally, Best Buy should honor the warranty and most suppliers would.
For example, Just a month ago, I have returned one of my LeEco phones (5 months old) that was damaged by a faulty cable. and I received a brand phone under warranty.
Unfortunately, Best Buy is notorious for not honoring factory warranties or even their own Geek Squad extended warranties.

You bought a phone with a published warranty from a company that is still in business. Most likely Best Buy received extra margin to service the warranty themselves.

Since you cannot reach the manufacturer , you should keep contacting Best Buy, stay on the line and do not take no for an answer, keep asking for the next person up and record the phone call ( they are recording you) if you keep pressing they may give in. Important, remain polite and professional. If you are rude, they will do nothing for you.

Alternatively, get another cable and try unbricking your phone by following the unbrick guide. ( its works but only if you have a x727 or a x720) Its also possible that you have a hardware issue like I did. Worst case you can buy parts for these phones on Ebay and Alibaba

Which charger were you using?
Hi, I purchased 2 LeEco Le Pro 3 phones, and both have broken down completely manufacturer's fault. One, the battery inside the phone started to expand and push out the front screen glass out of its edges. The other one, which I purchased as a backup, the screen auto rotate does not work. I think the sensor is broken.
Now, I have no way to contact the manufacturer for the warranty repairs, none of the contact info are working. I purchased the phones directly from the manufacturer LeEco Mall (just as OnePlus sells directly to the consumer), so I can't even try to return it to the distributor or the seller.
PS: how long is the warranty period on these phones?
PPS: is there a reason that many distributors are still selling the Le S3, and other models except for the Le Eco Le Pro 3? I can't even buy the Le Pro 3 any more. Anyone else having the same problems mentioned above?
Guys give up, we are ALOT of LeEco Le Pro 3 users who got this problem. Everything started from nothing
@tsongming did you heard any news? I can see that one more user killed his phone Are there more or just him ? This is too strange, since 1 month alot of phones died .... hmm

we have exactly the same, try to search our thread on it. One user fixed his phone by "re-powering" his battery. I bought another battery and nothing happend for my phone sadly.
Stock
Unfortunately, all of these recent issues are likely due to manufacturing. If you take a look you will find that quite a few people who never used a custom rom are also having these issues on stock. Probably alot of the issues are the battery. Ideally the battery should not go over 100F / 38C
For these cases a battery will likely resolve the issue, of course there is also the issue with burned ports.
Custom Roms
But many of the Roms made within the last couple of months are based on Pie and there are too many unknown factors, such as permissions being reset for unknown reasons, edited thermal settings reverting to default etc.
Recently we have seen chip damage. But the cause of chip damage has been found and resolved.
If you are reading this post and your phone is fine. Take every precaution to ensure that your battery stays cool and if on Pie make sure that you have the very latest thermal patch installed.
