Some advice please
So a while back my G3 suddenly wasn't able to find any coverage most places I went. Nothing else was wrong with it, it was just that there was no mobile coverage 80% of the time. The problem occurred one day as it was just in my pocket, nothing was wrong with it beforehand.
So, of course, I took it to the warranty service to get it repaired. Now, the phone's been dropped a bunch of times and it has some tiny scratches on the display and one on the back. It's definitely possible that the my problem occurred due to dropping it but, as I said, when it broke, it hadn't been dropped in some time.
In a few days, I get a phone call in which they tell me that the phone has been repetitively dropped, as can be seen by the scratches, and the motherboard and some module(don't know what exactly they were referring to) must be replaced. Now, obviously, the warranty doesn't cover mechanical damage so it's a paid service. The amount they asked for was around 430 dollars. Now, I'm obviously not going to pay a 430 dollars as I can just get a new phone for that money but I just came here to ask, if I take it to another service, would it be possible to be fixed and, theoretically, for what price?

Hi guys, I'm currently on my second one x as first was faulty.
This handset is also faulty and I have a replacement due on Tuesday. I booked the replacement within minutes of getting the handset as the same issues occurred (graphical corruption on most screens, like a garbled cartridge game lol. Also signal dropping not reconnecting)
Annoyingly, my gf handed the phone to me in town today, we fumbled and dropped the thing (headbutting each other in the process, not graceful lol) and now there are several minor scratches on the screen. Not immediately noticeable but you'd see em if you looked for em.
So, in a longwinded way my question is thus. Is it fraudulent to continue with the replacement? I'm hoping they'd right the phone off as a manufacturer fault anyways without much of a check, I'm only on day 9 of my conteact so replacements are easy at this point. Bit fearful they'd just charge for a repair though. Can't afford that,..
What say you fellow xda members, Is this wrong or fine considering the handset was unquestionably faulty on arrival?
Just send it back again, mine has that graphical corruption u r on about, but very rarely happens, it usually on the browser, I'm gonna wait for my SLOW o2 network provider to push the updates out before I decide to send back, just incase that fixes it

I'm with three if that helps.
No aslong as there is no real bad damage, they know its hardware/software problem and the condition of the phone shouldn't mattter

I have a HTC one X, got the black screen of death. I assumed it was a loose connection as the phone is sometimes dropped. I found a forum online mentioning that its the motherboard thats faulty.
I had the phone fixed by HTC after the LED screen was shattered, this cost me around 140 quid. They sent me a refurbished phone, I noticed the screen flickered under certain colours but assumed it was a driver issue. I updated the phone and found 2 updates and seemed fine after that.
Then few days back I put my phone down for couple hrs and come back to it to find the screen is black. Apparently is the video driver shorting or something.
HTC basically gave me faulty phone, thats how i see it, just wondering if I was to send it off what do they look for to see if the case has been opened. Hopefully I can seal it back and they might not notice?
I wanted to fix it myself initially, because I have data on my phone thats not backed up.
Also is the motherboard replacement under warranty or?

If you open the phone, i would assume they can see its been opened before. This can be done in many ways. Some screws show signs of having been removed, and scratches on the top of the screws also indicates this.. Then there are the "warrenty if void" stickers across places you need to breach.
Do you plan on opening up the phone? From what you write you have not yet opened the (faulty) phone you got from them, as a replacement? If they gave you a faulty phone, they did not fix the issue with it (you still have issues), and then i believe it should be straight forward to return it. Simply telling them what you write here (got it, noticed wierd stuff, updated it and then it seemed fine, but now its dead). The phone never REALLY worked, after you got it back (refurbished = phone returned to HTC that they send out to other customers as "NEW" while its in fact "CLEANED AND AS-GOOD-AS-NEW" - right?)
My advice would be to NOT OPEN the phone, start by having them replace it. If THAT fails, you can resort to opening it yourself.

The problem was I was kinda impatient, and assumed it was a loose connection. Also I have data on the phone and was convinced I could fix it myself (have done other phones). I know when you send the phone off they get wiped before any work is done on them.
I have opened it, there was one screw at the top of the phone with a void print on it. I didn't scuff the screw and was put back in the exact same place.
There was no void stickers or tags to move, the only thing was the battery was stuck down to the base of the phone. It's now loose, i was hoping if i just stick that back and send it off they won't notice anything. There's no marks inside or outside of the phone, look new still.

Well I think there is no way to get a new phone, because you bought a refurbished phone. There is a warranty on refurbished phones, but I'm pretty sure that its nearly impossible to proof that it was their fault or already damaged when you got it.

I bought the phone brand new from a phone company (in store), since then I've had the phone fixed 3 times. Twice was my fault, but the other fault was the touch screen buttons on the bottom of the phone. They were no longer responsive.
I basically shattered the LED screen, sent it off to HTC, paid 140 quid for repair and sent me this crappy refurbished phone back. This one had the flickering issues and eventually fried the motherboard. Something about shorting the video driver i read in another xda thread.
Ok, what happened here is my phone went to swim with me crying.
I tried to dry up the phone, but I still can't turn it on. Then, I send my phone via my carrier (Rogers Canada in my case) for repair. Of course, I am pretending to be innocent saying I don't know what happened to my phone, and I just can't turn it on. Then HTC (I suppose it is some outsourced place, but should be licensed under HTC) told me that there are COLLISION on the mother board and somewhere else, which is ridiculous. There is one much more ridiculous thing: the repair is going to cost

Of course, I am not asking them to repair for me. I just want to share how ridiculous it is, and if you guys can gimme some hints on how I can have it repaired, that will be great.

I bet he meant corrosion on the main board. Also i personally dont like to read posts where people know they got the phone wet then try to play dumb and pull one over on someone or a company. That shows very little integrity on your part. But i dont want to turn this into a personal attack as the mods dont like it. SO lets hope a mod reads this thread and shuts it down.
If you're lucky the phone might magically just turn on, on any given day. I've seen that happen

I accept your comment, but what I wanna say is $1000 is ridiculous...
I will agree with you there, 1000 bucks to fix a phone is way overboard. Unless theres some conversion were missing. like 400 USD = 1000 what ever lol

It's 1000 CAD, which equals around 930 USD.
This doesn't even sound right. How can the repair cost more than the actual cost of the device. I'd look for another repair option.

Diagnostics, manual assembly, etc. Very little can be reliably salvaged from a water damaged phone. Assume everything but the case needs replacing. It's what's known as a write-off.

I've washed them full cycle several times. Each time when I found my phone i soaked them in alcohol and agitated them for about 20 minutes fully submerged. Then I use a toaster oven and dried them out with gentle heat and by sucking air into the phone about 20 times. All of them worked again. Even an iPhone once. Yes, I said full cycle. I found my phone in the when I was loading the dryer. Have I been lucky? I dunno. Many find this hard to believe, but it's true. I put a charging port in my girlfriends note 2. It came from a water damaged Note 2. It was sitting in parts for 2 months. I figured it was dry because it was sitting in open air. Well I put it in and it worked. A week later she lost data and voice. Long story short, that chargign port wrecked everything in the Note 2. When they opened it up, it has white fungus looking corrosion working halfway up the phone in three spots. It absolutely ruined the Note 2 and an insurance claim had to be made. It can go ether way, saved or junked. Just depends on the conditions.

Wow, I guess you don't learn fast.
Water damaged vs got wet.
If you're quick enough and use the correct method and lucky, you may get the thing working again, but I'd hardly say reliably. HTC or any repair centre are hardly going to want to provide a 3 month warranty on a repair of a phone that's got wet without replacing everything that can be damaged by water.
The sum of the parts is greater then the price of the item.
Thats why we have chop shops. Some cars are worth more when parted out and the pieces are sold individually.
So if each component was being sold to him at retail pricing, add labor and whola, higher price.
I've been having an issue with my phone having a loose speaker grill ( bottom speaker Mesh ) and have been afraid to send it to the warranty center because of how long the process takes.... i didn't want to do an advanced RMA, so had to do the standard one...
i called google a bit ago and they told me that in order for me not to get billed and have my phone same day i can go to uBreakiFIX physical location here in california and have them do the repair on it, they gave me the number so i called.....
when i called i explained the problem, and the tech was very kind about the whole deal.... asked me what was wrong, so i told him i had screen burn in and my speaker mesh was defective and he simply said to bring it in for a two hour repair... i called in at 5 pm pacific , and asked him what time her closed, he said 7 pm pacific, yet still told me to bring it in cause they would stay extra time to get my phone fixed after closing if needed, which i thought was awesome for him to even say...
i will be taking my phone in tomorrow to hopefully get the screen changed, (speaker mesh comes with new screen) and hopefully get a new battery for the phone as well... i mean.... if the battery has been discharging abnormally rapidly, why not change it at googles warranty expense at the same time they already have the phone open right??? I wanted to share this with the community just in case anyone had the worry of sending the phone in and being phoneless for about two weeks mind you this is just for certain states
So I have the Pixel XL 128 GB. Had it for two and a half years. The battery is crap. It was typically dying when the percentage got down to the 30s. Now once it gets below 50 percent, all bets are off. At first I thought it was a calibration issue. So I rooted it, in hope I could calibrate using apps. Then I learned that the calibration apps don't really do anything. So I installed AccuBattery, which estimates my battery is only working at 40 percent efficiency. Time for a new battery.
But that's not all. The phone speaker doesn't always work. Restarting would bring it back, for a little while. The headphone connection would drop out. Restarting would help, for a little while. Would also freeze randomly, especially when charging. So I wiped the phone completely, and the freezes, speaker, and headphone problems went away. For a few weeks. Now they are back. Calls are a crapshoot. Restarting helps. My audio or video files won't play. Restarting helps. My phone won't recognize when headphones are plugged in. Restarting WON'T help. And still the random freezes, especially when charging.
My belief is that a defective battery is the main culprit, and replacing the battery will fix all those problems. As it's extremely easy to crack the LCD screen when removing the cover, I'd rather pay to have the battery replaced. Found a place nearby that is a Google certified repair shop. $80 to replace the battery. Even if they crack the screen, they'll replace it at no cost. So I've thought this is the way to go.
But my wife is worried the problem is more than the battery, and replacing the battery will give me a messed up phone with a new battery. We have the Total Mobile Protection, and I wonder if it would be better to just pay the replacement deductible of $149.
Any suggestions? Anyone have a phone replaced through Asurion (Verizon's insurance provider)? What was the experience like? What quality was the replacement phone? Would it be the exact same model?

My Pixel XL died late last month and I had a warranty plan with SquareTrade. After I paid the 100.00 deductible, and sent the phone to them for evaluation, they informed me that it would cost more to repair the phone than it was worth, so they refunded me the price I paid for the phone less the deductible. I purchased a new 128 GB Pixel XL on Amazon and a two year warranty from Assurion last week for around 300.00 and change and pocketed the remainder of my refund. I do not need the latest and greatest new phone these days, since I am retired, and do not want to take on any unnecessary debt.
I never get extended warranty coverage from a cellular company because they are a ripoff. You pay for the coverage every month included in your bill and you still have to pay a pretty steep deductible. I would check to see what your 149.00 deductible will get you. Read the fine print on the policy document carefully. I have purchased warranties from Assurion in the past and they were always fair and easy to deal with.
