A chip has appeared on the top edge of the screen on my 10 (curiously, it's never been dropped *suspicious eyes*)
Anyone in the UK had a favourable experience with HTC Service Centre/repairs? Any idea on cost?
Thanks
Also, assume as it's not a warranty repair you wouldn't have to worry about returning to stock or any of that nonsense?
Let us know what happens...
I have experience with HTC support and the repair center in France...next to you...lol

If, like me, you bought your Desire from someone who was selling it as an unwanted (T-mobile) upgrade, you may be pleasantly surprised to see the following answer from HTC UK to my question of whether it was covered by manufacturer warranty:
--Me: "I've just bought a new HTC Desire from a private seller who had upgraded to the handset via t-mobile. The phone was new and I have since upgraded OTA to the latest official HTC ROM. I have the proof of purchse/upgrade document, but wanted to confirm that the handset is covered by the 2 year HTC warranty?"
--HTC: "The warranty is with the handset and not the person. So long as you have proof of purchase / upgrade document this will be fine.
If you have any further questions or queries then please do not hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
HTC"
so basically, anyone with a tmobile handset can switch to the generic rom and not lose warranty?

your probably right, however i think that, if you experience any problems you will have to contact HTC, not t-mob.
no, that is not what it means.
What it means is that the warranty is transferred to whoever you sell the phone to as long as you give them the original receipt/delivery document.
the support person did not read your email properly and did not notice the 'i have upgraded to the HTC ROM' part.
you try and claim it and they'll just refuse.

Yes - it's a manufacturer's warranty and as I'm not with T-mobile I would have to send it to HTC.

How do you know?
Why would changing to the HTC Rom invalidate an HTC warranty?
Does carphonewarehouse still take in phone to repair under manufacture warranty even if you didn't buy it from them??
point is, if you buy it with t-mobile firmware and change it to HTC generic, in theory you can still have it repair by HTC.

How do i know? cos i've been using HTC phones since 2002.
cos i've owned HTC phones since 2004
cos i've worked for shops and networks that sell HTC phones and this has always been the case.
as soon as you do anything to change the branding of the device, you have invalidated the warranty.
that's just the way it is. If you want to do these things, go ahead and do them, god knows i do it plenty, but do it knowing the full implications!
Fair enough.
My question however was asking whether I was covered by an HTC warranty even though the handset was obtained by someone else as an upgrade (the OTA update I received was an official HTC/T-mobile one and the phone rom is still branded as such)
that's ok then.
If you did the gold card thing, you're SOL.
if you just did the normal update, you're ok.
Orange has now stopped replacing HTC handsets that have the reboot issue. due to the amount being taken back. I don't know if other networks are also putting a stop to this . HTC are now working on a update for all HTC one x devices to fix the problem. There was talk about HTC doing a call back on all devices but due to the state HTC are currently in it was decided it would be better for the company to try and fix through a software update
I note to any orange customers wanting a replaced phone under warranty please don't tell them its rebooting as orange will not take the phone back.
I send my apologies to all admins and mods if this info is in the public domain and a post has been made already. I understand their are some other people who come on.here who work for either HTC or other networks
Posted from my HTC one x by an HTC employee who is not best please with the company he works for
And that's why I left orange 10 years ago. Furthermore, they can't do that, if your orange branded 1x is faulty and they won't replace it, go to court and take them for costs and loss of earnings as well.
So orange believe that if you have a faulty handset they do not have to replace it as an update is in the works?
I'm afraid that's not how it works orange...
We all know by law anything we buy has to be as described and fit for perperce
An 1x rebooting does not fit this and yes of course it should be swapped without any questions
I cannot speak on behalf of orange but I can tell you what I was told. Don't just blame orange though it might be other networks and it may have also been a direct request from HTC . The info I was told about the update HTC customers are having came from an email at the office the info I had about orange came from the Burton on Trent orange store when i visited them with my own faulty handset not due to rebooting but do to the handset not taking a charge. I was told I quote its a good job you did not have a phone that was rebooting as we are no longer taking these. I did not ask why but I can guess why
Have we got a linky or other 'proof' of this?
No disrespect to the OP, he may just be passing on info he has heard…. but are the guys who told him this info correct? Cos, lets face it, ALL staff who work in mobile phone shops KNOW everything about what is happening everywhere in their company, dont they.
Steve
no disrespect taken Tomo
I have no links or anything to the info i have just given. Its not offical. HTC i guess will make an offical statment when they want to. But i can give you my world and thats all.
as for orange
I cannot speak on their behalf but pass info on what i was told by the store i went to.
I guess some one could phone orange and ask them if they are still doing swaps for duff phones. i think it stinks myself if they are not giving replacments for phones rebooting.
Yeah I'm not gonna believe it until HTC says it, because retailers are required by law to replace phones or refund them...
Hello to all
It looks like HTC has now realised the new update I've already had. Message come through on my phone its downloaded and installed ok . Just hope it fixes any problems with your one x
Hi guys,
2 weeks ago problems were started to appear with my HOX screen.
One little burn black pixel in the top right screen.
And a orange color sign in the button left corner of the screen. (gets worse as my device getting hotter)
I called HTC customer service in UK,
They told me that since im from Israel there is no official lab of HTC here, so I need to ship my device to Greece.
The thing is that my HOX is hacked and RELOCKED, i changed roms etc...and I told it to the guy in the customer service.
just to check if it still fine (after all thats a hardware problem and not software)
He told me its cancel the warranty and they cant fix the screen for me... only if ill add something like 400-600 euro for they to change the proccesor.
Its really sucks!
I paid so much for a high-end device and I need to have this issue's?!
why samsung s3 dosent need to face those kinds of problems? (not to mention that samsung have a offical lab in Israel and they dont need to send it to Greece!)
Anyway another israeli friend told me that he also was in the same situation like I, and he send hes device without telling hes device was jail break. They fix it!
Apparently its not HTC themself in greece, he got latter with the device after they fix and everything was written there in greek and a name of a company was something diffrent.
nothing about HTC.
So i guess they just fixing without really cheak if the phone was hacked. Maybe they dont care.
its just another company that works with HTC.
The thing is I already told the guy in the customer service that the phone is hacked and I gave him my IMEI nummber.
It means that there is no way back? they know not that my specific phone is hacked in their computers?
Or can I call again as ''another customer'' tell them my problems is the screen without mention the jailbreak, and send my phone anyway to Greece.
What do you guys think?
I am already with stock rom and the phone is RELOCKED.
I'll make it short for you.
If you can talk to the retailer you might have yourself a chance. Given that you are in Israel. Scratch that.
The 2nd option and the best one is s-offing your device than changing your phone's state as "LOCKED". Anyway, this isn't possible because there is no public way to achieve this. So, either your have to wait or forget this option. By the way, I don't know when we might get s-off or even if it possible (software wise).
Here now we get to the 3rd option:
First, no a customer service can't and won't be able to invalid your warranty just by talking to him/her.
Second, it will depends on the person who checks your phone in HTC. If he/she is lazy or an easy good natured person. He or she will fix it. DONE. For your information, if they connected your phone to a computer and the boot loader is "RELOCKED" they have an app which will indicate your phone as ROOTED/WARRANTY VOID. Also, I think HTC charges money if you wants to return your phone back to you (in case of warranty is voided).
You might be wondering why HTC asked a lot of money, they need to change your motherboard to lock it(Stupid HTC policy to be honest & they can lock it by other means).
Last option you have, is to find a good service center whom will replace only the screen for you. This will cost you less than what HTC will ask for.
note: I am ignoring the sgs3 part.
Good Luck
There is an oficial lab and importer in Israel. Google for Touch Group. They are located in Hertslia pituah
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
My one x screen is dead and black. Touch controls and radios work fine. The local HTC authorized service center says that the problem is with the handset and it needs to be replaced. But they don't process the warranty of the handset which is not bought from them. I need it to send it internationally so if anyone knows where to send it. I am from Pakistan.
Hello! I would like to shout out to all the Desire HD owners in the Philippines out there and ask if any of you know a place where I can get my phone's screen replaced? I dropped it and well, you know, it got busted. The screen still turns on but the touch screen is only responsive in certain areas. So yeah, if there's anyone who knows a good service center or repair shop in NCR, please do respond, thank you!
