Hello. I have been having major problems with my touchscreen as far as a dead spot up top and whenever i hit the home button it automatically activates the button right beside it at the same time. So by hitting the home button it actually presses two buttons at the same time. Hope that makes sense. Anyway i remember reading somewhere awhile ago about being able to update touchscreen firmware and i was wondering if anyone knows how or if i can do this. I tried looking but not having much luck. Im on the latest ZVG stock. LS980 sprint. Thanks for any help u could give.

Same problem here; the Sprint store tech told me that it "sometimes happens", although I've NEVER seen, nor heard of a phone, less than two years old, having such a problem. Sprint tech suggested I have it fixed, for $75. Insurance or not, it will still cost the same (deductible). Cheapest option: If you've got the expertise and patience; buy a new digitizer on ebay, for about $8, and replace it... next option, buy a new phone, and sell the defective, disclosing the touch screen digitizer issue.
Digitizer is more like 40 bucks

Ever since I purchased my evo I have had strange touchscreen issues. Ie.. it will start pressing buttons or long press all by itself. At first I thought it was the rom I was running but later found out that every rom I have ran does it. Now I'm sure everyone is going to tell me to just replace the phone but I don't really have the money to do that right now. Just wanted to see if there has been any other evo owners that have run into this and if they had any suggestions. Thanks.

I had a similar problem with my HTC HD2 back in the day and it turned out to be a hardware problem. I took it back to the store where they confirmed it and replaced my device right there. If you rooted your phone and have a custom rom installed on it right now....unroot it and put the stock rom back on it and take it back to the store where they'll be able to give you a brand new one for free! Things like this aren't your fault and so they shouldn't charge you at all!
As mentioned, Sprint should replace the phone free of charge - especially if you have insurance. Be sure to take it to a true Sprint store and not just a store that sells Sprint stuff. Without insurance, it may cost you $35, more, or absolutely nothing.
Just be sure to unroot first, as Sprint may void your warranty or refuse to replace it if they see that it's rooted (and since the issue is with the screen, they will). If you used unrevoked to root, remember to flash the s-on tool in recovery before running the RUU. Also double check that you're s-on before taking it in.
Good luck!
Thanks for the responses. I do have insurance but the quirk is that I purchased the phone second hand from an acquaintance. The screen issue happened so minimally that it didn't really bother me until late. Now its happening more often. I guess I'm gonna have to suck it up, lose it in the bathroom at my local pub and fork out the deposit for replacement. Thanks again.

My stepmom bought her BB Curve on ebay. She has insurance, it went funky on her & they replaced it for free.
She's a customer service rep's worst nightmare, though.
I dont think it matters where you got your phone if you have TEP....
I was once giving a phone by my nephew they replaced that phone 3 times for me! I love sprint!
Anyone else still having this issue? My phone will sporadically vibrate and the menu will start popping up and closing itself. Ive had this on every ics rom/build ive tried. Im currently running sfhubs 1-click FD26.

Use the search feature... This has been a topic several times over the past two months.
Mine does the same thing... it gets rather annoying. It SEEMS to happen more often in low-light or low-signal situations in my case... Often when this happens, the capacitive buttons themselves will simply stop responding, requiring me to tap a volume button or the power button to get them to respond.
The only real solution so far seems to be replacement of the digitizer. I haven't done it yet because I purchased my phone from a 3rd party retailer, and since I don't think Sprint will honor the warranty unless purchased from them, I don't really feel like being without a phone for 2-3 weeks while I wait for shipping, repair and return shipping...

You might be able to get it done directly through Samsung.

So its actually a harware issue and would require repair? What about buggy ics software? Returning GB wouldn't do anything?
I have insurance with sprint. I could just revert back to complete stock and take it in if the problem persists.

I'm running Calk's GB ROM. I've had this problem on all versions, and I've also had it on the two or three versions of ICS that I've tried.
I've seen some posts on here about people who have replaced their own digitizers and noticed a bit of water damage near the capacitive buttons... But at the eBay price of $120+, that's not a valid option for me.
I probably will attempt to take it to a corporate store and play dumb about the warranty, and see if they'd be willing to fix/replace it. The store out in Brookfield seems fairly competent. Maybe it'll just cost me the $35 warranty fee.
I just have to work up the ambition to make an appointment to go stand and wait for 45 minutes to be seen.
I did some reading up a saw the guy who tried to duplicate the problem at the sprint store, but was unable. I just hope they take my/your word for it, if the problem magically disappears.

A solution to what exactly? This is the first i've ever read of an S3 power button issue. What is the "see saw and loose thing" exactly? Any pictures?
I have the same problem, from my understanding Sprint considers it a "cosmetic" issue and will not replace/fix for free. Your options are to send to Samsung for warranty repair or place a Sprint TEP claim which will cost and you will receive a refurbished phone.

Well, that stinks
Definitely a factory defect. Have both ET and S3. No issues with the power button.
Just buy the button online. It snaps in.
Also, they get loose when you take off a case that you have to stretch to wrap on to the phone if you arent careful. It can catch the edge of the button as you pull the case off.
Just pull the case away from the volume and power buttons as you pull the case off.

This problem is called "sudden death syndrome" its a huuuuuuge factory defect you actually have to solder on a new one or you're screwed

I have the Best Buy Protection Plan. One of the reasons I have it is because of stuff like this. I had the Sprint TEP, till they changed it. My buddy had this happen to his SGS3. The Power Button left the party. Because of an error on his part he had both Sprint TEP, and the BBPP ( Best Buy Protection Plan ) . He went to Sprint, and they said they he had to contact Samsung. He went to BB the same day. They sent the Device out for repair, and gave him a loaner. Next day they notified him he would be getting another device in the mail. He received it two days later. Returned the loaner, and all good.
I've been having reboot problems with my GS2 for months now and always thought it was a software issue and tried fixing it myself since it was intermittent. Recently I figure out the power button on the thing is somehow damaged where it won't turn on or gets stuck and goes into a boot loop. I went to the Sprint store and the guy almost immediately said it was a known problem and would order a phone and quoted me 5-8 days (he didn't say it was on backorder at the time). It has been a week now and when I call they just say they don't know when they're coming in and they're all on backorder.
I have a pretty much useless phone now for a week and Sprint won't give me an actual date to get a new phone. Any suggestions on what to do? Whenever I call they just put me on hold hoping I hang up after 5-10 minutes until someone else picks up wondering what I want.
FYI This is at the Sprint store and through my TEP plan that I play for monthly.
Thanks for any tips. I'm just very frustrated at this point.
There are a few services to replace the power button. I do it, Mobiletechvideos does it, if you are really good at soldering, you can do it yourself, etc. The only other option is to wait, really.

Well I have one more choice. After calling customer service and telling them everything I've gone through he agreed to reset my eligibility date to today (instead of august 1st). Although if I get a new phone, then I don't think I'd be able to fix the GS2 under warranty. Wondering whether it's worth it, but I think i'll likely just get the new phone and be done with it.
Hello everyone.
I recently bought a sgs3 t999l t mobile version with lte capabilities and right away it has 2 noticeable problems. I do not hava a bill nor insurance, so I am going to try to fix it myself. When I first got the phone, the touch screen wouldn't work properly. When I turn the screen off and awake it the touchscreen works again every time. I asked a few repair shops and even samsung themselves but no one really knows the solution. One person said that the digitizer may be going bad. Another person said there may be a bad connection with the touchscreen.. Most of them told me to just replace either the glass or the digitizer and find out but I do not have money to waste. I believe that someone before me may have flashed custom roms and may have damaged it a little because when I first obtained the phone, software update was unavailable due to modifying the phone or something like that. When I checked again a few days later, I was able to update.
My second problem is that my screen cracked straight across the earpiece a couple of days after I bought it and one day before my lifeproof case arrived. I put it in the case and the crack multiplied by 7. My explanation is that the company I bought it from replaced the glass with a cheap non samsung version of the glass. Does anyone have any ideas about what to replace and how?

Samsung will still honor warranty sometimes based on your IMEI. They do have ways to track in Carrier's database. Just give it a try.
If you really have to do on your own, you are looking to replace Digitizer & / or LCD.
I talked to samsung and they told me a cracked screen voids the warranty..
Sent from my SGH-T999L using xda app-developers app
Then your recourse is to replace Digitizer and LCD. Others have tried replacing just the LCD but had limited success. Depends on your soldering skills I guess.
Watch the disassembly vids, for one thing, you dont want to attempt to do just one or the other, another is I dont think you can buy them separately.
Hint: if you do go this route, make sure you buy an assembly that comes already attached to the housing. This will save you a huge headache!

If its connected to a motherboard, do I get a different imei number and possible blacklist from t mobile? Isn't that all connected?
Sent from my SGH-T999L using xda app-developers app
If its got its own motherboard, yes itll have its own imei. But itll only be blacklisted if it were stolen or reported lost. If you still have yours you can always swap them out. Its very easy to do.

You have been very helpful. How do I thank you using the xda app? One more thing. Will a screen &/or digitizer from t999 version work and fit on my t999l?

Ive been told the screen and digitizer is interchangeable. You might want to get a second opinion, but im pretty sure youll be fine with it.
