Will we get the fire os 4 update? - Amazon Fire Phone

Hi friends , I really like my fire phone but I am just wondering ; will we get the fire os 4 update? or software development has been stopped? Thank you.
Update; I had an answer from Amazon fire phone team , they are so kind but I think thats it , there will be no software updates our fire phones
''Hello,
I understand that you'd like to get Fire OS4 to your Fire phone.
I'd like to bring to you kind attention that, we've made no announcement about any future Fire phone software updates, so I can't answer your question. I'm extremely sorry for the disappointment caused.
We would never want to lose a valued customer like you and we always endeavor to assist our customer with the best of our service. It is certainly not our intention for our customers to have anything but a pleasant experience using Fire Phone.
However, this is something that we need to take serious consideration for change in Fire Phone.
To ensure the utmost attention, I've forwarded your message to our development team for consideration as we make further improvements.''

I'm happy with 3.6.8
Hope someone find a way to install other ROM :fingers-crossed:

Don't always believe the low-level customer services.
When the new Fire tablets were announced along with Fire OS 4, it was said (in a public statement) that the Fire phone would receive Fire OS 4 in early 2015...
I'm not holding my breathe, but it's still not the end of early 2015 and it can mean anything depending on their definition of "early". The way I see it, June is still classed as "early".

I know that announcement , finger crossed , but if they have a plan to upgrade for early 2015 , what is wrong with make an announcement to their customers ? I think the key sentence is '' However, this is something that we need to take serious consideration for change in Fire Phone.''

Yeah, I'm not holding my breathe. To be honest, I wish I hadn't sold my Lumia 735 for this phone. It's an okay phone, but needs an update plus the ability to be unlocked...

I just want root off of 3.6.8. That is the part that is killing me the most about this phone.

This press relase from the Sep. 17th 2014 says :
Fire OS 4 will be available on Fire phone early next year.
There is no maybe, this is an definite statement

I called amazon directly and the representative, on the other line, said they are unsure of a specific date for os 4 being released. Did you read the news about developers, who are leaving fire phone due to limited users? developers are saying that the device is not in demand and developing apps is not cost efficient for them. here you go:
http://www.geekwire.com/2015/app-developers-bailing-on-fire-phone-creating-new-challenge-for-amazon/

I called about a week ago and got the same answer.
While they did announce that they'd be giving the fire phone os 4, it's been super quiet since then.
It's a shame, because I was really looking forward to using an android wear device with my fire phone

me too , I have several BlueTooth 4.0 Devices .

I just wish they would release an update fixing the SBC encoding so music over Bluetooth didn't sound like crap.

Hey I know wrote a negative post about a release, but I just got some exciting news from amazon.Ive been having reception issues and this is the response they gave me:
Hello Erdin,
I'm sorry for the delay in resolving your issue. I tried contacting you at the phone number listed in your Amazon account but haven't been able to reach you.
Our technical team was unable to correct the issue you described with losing reception on the Amazon Fire Phone. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience. We have, however, determined what the issues are and our technical team is diligently working to fix the issues. According to our developers, the issues should be resolved with the newest software update for the Fire operating system. This operating system update is 4.6, which will be released starting mid April. We ask that you allow for us to resolve the issues that you are having with the newest update.
If you're still having trouble, please provide as much information as possible, including any new error messages. We can be reached using the following link:

Great news! update is a month away . I hope they added a few UI changes like lock screen notifications ( able to read, answer and dismiss from the lock screen ), add 3G on / off switch and can remove sms / dialed phone numbers etc. one by one from the carousel preview

Guess that means I'll be pushing back my root for another month
I didn't want to risk anything unduly, but hopefully this actual piece of information means good news for us

I contacted Amazon help last month about BT 4.0 LE and got this back: They probably didn't know the April release date back then.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello,
I'm sorry for the disappointment you had regarding the Bluetooth LE update for the Fire Phone device.
We'll release the updates frequently for the Fire Phone with performance improvements, application upgrades. I understand that you are waiting to receive an update for enabling Bluetooth 4.0 LE for the Fire Phone device.
Our technical team is already working on this update with additional improvements to Fire Phone device. While we do not have any information about the next software update release, but once all the improvements and bugs(if any on device) are fixed, the software update will rolled out for all the Fire Phone device.
When the update is released, it'll be delivered to all the Fire Phone devices connected to wireless or Wi-Fi network. You'll be notified with an alert when the update hits your Fire Phone.
When we release an update for the Fire Phone, it'll be listed on our help pages here :
https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201531560
We'll honor your commitment by continuing to provide the quality product availability and support you expect for Fire Phone.

Looks good for BT 4.0 in April then.

I don't see the April reference in that response.

True, but read the first sentence. Its an older email that confirms the BT 4.0LE featureis included in the next release, not the release date.

Thanks for the update.

That's brilliant news! Can't bloody wait!
Brilliant, lets hope his word is good for it !!
Thanks for the info.
Sent them the email cos I couldn't watch Vixen Videos on The Daily Star
I still wouldn't be too suprised if it doesn't come out at that time.
By now it's getting kind of a fail on Google's side that they teased us with Froyo mid may and still haven't officially released it even on the N1. I'm afraid Apple's iOS 4 will beat Froyo to the market. After iOS4 mass market will not care much for Android at least for another half year.
We have to keep our hopes high though, so hopefully in 2 weeks we'll be running Froyo.
IF, and I say if, that's true then fair play HTC!!

I agree. I think if you don't release the update within a few weeks of announcing it publicly, it reflects very badly on your planning/preparation. And as much as I hate Apple, I think they are pretty good at these things, while Google clearly has a long way to go. If they do screw up with Froyo, Android's dreams of catching up with iPhone in terms of market share would remain dreams for a long long time.
Ah, so it begins. The rumour of the 23rd of June is now being pushed back by another two weeks before we even get to the 23rd.
Can we stop this? In just under two weeks someone will receive another email pushing it back another few weeks, and again, and again and so on.
Until HTC say "It'll be out on this date" this emailing customer service nonsense should just stop.

Last time i checked the 23rd was in the next 2 weeks. OTA updates are rarely on the same date for everyone for a number of reasons, so an exact date may not be possible.
Well, see you all in three weeks for the customary self induced *****fest. People need to stop attention seeking.

I emailed customer service because I wanted to know if they had a fix for embedded flash not working, not to find out if there was an update coming, just thought I'd share the reply.
within the next 2 weeks includes the 23rd as far as my calender goes btw and they'd be stupid to update all desires on the same day - the network stress would be ridiculous!

Dear <me>, Thank you for contacting us. In regards to your query, I am afraid but that is not an official statment from HTC. Please find below the official statment about the update to 2.2 Froyo: "We are considering a Froyo(2.2) upgrade for some models of our phones, but we are still analyzing the impact this will have on the user experience. We will announce a full list of phones and dates once we are closer to launching the upgrades." I trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if required. Not over the air. How many desires have seen sold? Have a guess and multiply it by the 150MB or so of the update and see why not everyone will get it on the same day..
Personally im waiting for cooked Froyo Desire ROMs. Im sure the stock one will be nice, but i want FULL A2SD.
Some of you guys need to get a life! Continue with your life without *****ing around and when the update eventually comes, you'll see it. Those people at the helpdesk in HTC HQ are just people like you and me trying to do their job. They're told what to and (and more specific) what NOT to say.
So hold your horses, quit *****ing and bothering them, they're no gods, they're just lads trying to earn their beer.
Once the update is READY, you'll all see it flashing on your screen.
Thank you.

is there no way to just host it online and have it downloaded over regular internet?
i'm imagining it being like flashing the firmware of a dvdwriter or something.
would make it faster by a long shot and not impact the 3g network
This reply does kind of fit in the other leaks about froyo on the Desire. Namely end of June.
Off course until we actually have it on our phones it remains a question whether or not they can deliver in a timely fashion (unlike other htc android handhelds)
But the regular slips of htc support seem promising

Clove Update + Confirmation of bug + Google Update To Fix The Problem

Just received this:
Please can you read the information below and confirm whether you wish us to continue with the dispatch of your order.
We are now pleased to be able to update you regarding the situation on the Galaxy Nexus and the issue regarding volume errors on some devices.
We tested the devices yesterday when they arrived and we did find the error in some of the phones but it appeared only to affect devices in poor signal areas using 900mhz frequency.
This was obviously of great concern so we were in discussions with various people and specialists yesterday morning to clarify the situation. We did not wish to make an announcement until a clear solution had been given by Google.
We can now confirm that Google were alerted early to this issue and have been working on a fix. It is software related and as you may have seen from various forum and blog posts this morning, they are now able to confirm that they will have a fix. It is NOT hardware related. We cannot yet say the precise date that this fix will be released but it is expected very soon.
The software update will be pushed out to devices by Google, free of charge, the moment it is available.
Given the discussions we had and this soon to be released update, we were happy to despatch our devices, we simply could not make any official announcement until we had a clear solution.
We of course pride ourselves on the communication that we have with our customers and we were aware of the large number of enquiries we were getting about this yesterday from various media sources.
We hope however you will understand that we wanted to give you clear and confirmed information before we made the announcement. We will of course update you as further information is released.
Regards
Sales Team

This is also posted on their blog: http://blog.clove.co.uk/2011/11/23/samsung-galaxy-nexusbug-fix-update/
Not surprised. Most things can be fixed via a software update. Also if it was a hardware bug Samsung would have stop shipments to distributors or ordered a hold on the stock. Samsung would have also delayed the launch of the phone on bell/virgin which is set for next week.
I don't see anything new that couldn't be found online from their post.
- Google software fix - reported by P3Droid and oscillik (via chat with android developer).
- Google were notified about this issue - from their bug report page.
- Google will push update - same report by P3Droid
- It is NOT hardware related - this one is new and very hard to believe.
I'm still waiting for Google/Samsung announcement.
So, basically what they are saying is that it is a software issue that will be fixed with a patch but they still ask you if you wish to receive the device?
Sounds fishy to say the least. If patch will be released you'd expect them just to dispatch all of the outstanding orders.
Clove are telling an outright lie. Neither Google, nor Samsung have made any public statement to say that this is not a hardware issue. The only statement that has been made has come from Google, and it is the following:
We are aware of the volume issue and have developed a fix. We will update devices as soon as possible.

All this statement says is that Google are working on a software fix, and that they are aware of the problem. Says absolutely nothing about the cause of the problem.
Handtec reporting that Samsung stopped shipping the phones:
http://twitter.com/#!/handtec/status/139328485121458176
Samsung stopped shipping so 48hr delay - we may need to cancel some tracking (if it does not showed picked up)
Maybe the software fix is not the best solution.

Can you find a Google source for this statement? All articles seem to point back the Verge rather than the primary source from google. Need the official link as I'm going to call Three and say im happy to keep it on the basis that they will release me from contract if Google do not promptly release the promised fix. Best to get it logged before my 2 week return period is over.

Exactly!!
Google 'allegedly' (no actual source yet) state they have a fix. Im not surprised Google are able to develop a software patch to treat the symptoms but the underlying problem could still be hardware.
From what I see on here is people are happy to take a few words and interpret as they please. Remember when Samsung kept saying the launch is on the 17th and it is not delayed? Everyone (incl loads of blogs) took this as prrof that the handset would be available from most outlets on that day. No one expected it to be just one branch of one store (regardless of whether or not you claim there is additional battery drain or whatever). In that case, Samsung were technically correct but it was what they DIDNT say that was important!!
Likewise, here we should note that Google (if indeed they did make this statement at all) DIDNT say it was hardware or software, just that they are working on a fix.
My prediction: there will be no recall, a software patch will appear to have resolved the issue, at least to the point you have no rights to return the unit. There may or may not be a different (improved) hardware build in coming months.

Audible app "slightly delayed"

I am not sure if anyone is interested but I got a response from Audible about their WP7 app. I dipped my toe into the WP7 waters (I have been an Android fanboy for a while) and I love it but I use Audible a lot. It is the only app that I used regularly on Android that has not been released.
For now, I stripped the drm off the files (shhhh) and used the ingenious "create a podcast" solution in the forum.
Hello Rich,
Thank you for contacting Audible.
I understand that you are inquiring about the release date of the Windows Phone App. I will be more than glad to answer your questions regarding this app.
At this moment, we don't have the release date available since it was slightly delayed due to a technical problem we had on the testing phase of this App. Our App is almost ready to be released; however, we are currently working on the final details to ensure you that we will provide you with a high quality product. When the application is complete, we will be announcing it on our website, newsletter, and social media channels.
Thanks for your interest in using Audible with Windows Phone. If you need any further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Have a wonderful day.
Sincerely,
David A.

"slightly delayed" is an Understatement
Thanks so much for posting this. I love my HTC HD7, except for lacking the audible app. I feel like I have been waiting forever. I got my phone on the day it was released in November 2010. I usually listen to my audible books on my Xoom Android tablet.

So what happened? I still don't have it in the marketplace even though I have read at least two blogs that say it is now available. The blogs also mention that Draw Something should be available but it is not. It also is not mentioned on the Audible webiste.
I have been wondering if there is some sort of misunderstanding. The guy that presented it was also talking about the ability to control the app with the voice interface. I have been wondering if he meant that the tool will be available in the sdk later in the day. I did not hear the entire presentation.
I have to admit as an Android user, I keep thinking that maybe there is a cache somewhere that needs to be cleared or some sort restriction in the market.
Audible app is not in Indian marketplace yet. Dunno about other marketplaces.

From the Windows Phone blog comments (by MS employee):
This is not a US-only app. There was a bug that happened only in the UK and 4 other countries (I don't have the list handy at the moment but wanted to respond to this without waiting), it was resubmitted last night with a fix for it, so it should show up soon.

[NEWS] Bootloader Unlock and Fire Phone Developer Version

As we know, Amazon never released an official way to unlock the bootloader on their devices.
I'm pretty sure a lot of their customers have requested the same thing over and over, but what i'm not sure of is if anyone got a response from their "customer help" like mine.
The other day, I sent my 2nd request regarding the bootloader unlock, kernel sources and "system_core" patches they'd released for Kindle Fire HD and HDX, the answer was being already a lot more interactive then my first response(props to that).
They replied saying that "Kernel source codes weren't available at this time", and that they had forwarded my suggestion to its developer team, but i noticed the employee forgot to mention the bootloader unlock part, which for me was of utter importance.
So again i contacted them, via the reply option we get when we send feedback, in order to continue the last question and asked about the bootloader unlock.
This is the full reply i got from them today:
Hello _____,
My name is Vijay, I'm with Fire Phone support.
I'm sorry that my colleague missed out on mentioning about bootloader unlock code for Fire Phone.
I have checked in our database and see that we haven't released bootloader unlock code for Fire Phones because our technical team is still working on developer version. We regret for any inconvenience this may have caused to you.
We realize how important bootloaders unlock code is to our developers. I'd like to inform you that we are also looking for developers who can help us to make our Fire Phone top notch.
Considering your comments, I have forwarded your request to Fire Phone development team for review.
Although, at this time, we do not have any information regarding unlock code, please be assured, we will definitely consider your customer comments as we work on improvements in Fire Phone space.
When we're ready to announce developer version, we'll definitely provide bootloader unlock code on our website. I'd like to thank you for bringing the need for this to our attention.
Thanks again for taking the time and sending us your valuable feedback.
We hope to see you again!!

It was explicitly said that their technical team is working on a developer version of the phone and that they will, and i quote, DEFINITELY, provide bootloader unlock code on their website.
That is a really great response. Thanks amazon.

As we know, Amazon never released an official way to unlock the bootloader on their devices.
I'm pretty sure a lot of their customers have requested the same thing over and over, but what i'm not sure of is if anyone got a response from their "customer help" like mine.

This is fantastic! I'm guessing this would allow for better NFC support and maybe even a camera fix?

Maybe to you, but i'm not one to judge the entire company only for their mobile hardware department, which is a tiny one.
So i appreciate your thoughts but i do not share them.

@v6ser, It is truly great news that they are thinking about unlocking the bootloader. Please keep in mind that not always will we agree with you and look at the emojis being used by posters. Bingo was just good naturedly disagreeing with you. Not everyone is a hater who disagrees

We can all appreciate each others thoughts but don't necessarily have to agree. :highfive: I think Amazon is a very good company but they did drop the ball with their FirePhone, OS, and closed it to developers. Hopefully they will cooperate and give them the tools they need to help us reap the benefits of their abilities!!! I know I sure can't but I appreciate the efforts of those who can
Thats great, and confusing...amazon seems to have a split personality when it comes to locking down some devices then apparently handing over the keys to others.
A phone is different than set top boxes and tablets I guess but I thought the idea of them taking a loss on the hardware was to lock people in the ecosystem and making money by selling books, games, apps, movies, any product imaginable with the amazon shopping app (which I hear is going to be incorporated into fire tv and stick.)
Not complaining at all obviously. Just wish I wouldve bought at least one more! Thanks for the good news.

They have stopped selling the Fire Phone which basically means they are discontinuing all support for the device and calling their loses. It makes sense to hand over the keys to the community so those with the phone are totally SOL.
The real shame is that the hardware is actually solid, but fire OS is a nightmare and shipping a device without the Google Play Store was just stupid since many apps are not in the Amazon store.

How does this make sense at all? The phone is discontinued, they gain nothing from unlocking the bootloader.
they can clear out there inventory faster if they unlock the bootloader.

1) they gain some goodwill on Fire devices (Fire TV, Fire tablets), whereas the Fire phone tarnished the brand name. Unlocking the bootloader, letting development happen salvages some of that.
2) by allowing unlocking bootloader, those are warranty claims they don't have to worry about. Even if they aren't selling them anymore, they still have to honor warranty claims on the new devices that are sold by 3rd parties -- unless the buyer voluntarily voids the warranty by unlocking the bootloader.
This is my first visit to this forum. I just ordered a Fire Phone for $125 from who I believe to be a liquidator who received a quantity of stock to clear. The phone comes with an unlock code!

Well how sneaky is that! I will gladly void my warranty for an unlocked bootloader So I agree with you there.:good:
Yes. Probably the guy that sold over 11,000 of them already. Its an amazing deal if youre planning on being a prime member regardless.
I dunno though about amazon making amends to the people who overpaid for this phone last summer. In my opinion, anyone that shelled out $650 for fire phone was not planning on doing any modifications to it. They were sold on the camera, firefly, prime etc. STILL, regardless of the reasoning, its great news about the bootloader being unlockable.
Kernel source/GPL
"Kernel source codes weren't available at this time"
Umm, wat? GPL? Isnt' this it here? Or are we talking about a different phone?

Wishful thinking at its finest. Amazon doesn't care about "goodwill" when it comes to a dead device. They dumped stock and are trying to put the whole thing behind them. Why would they release something else to get a failed project's name back in the news? Specially when it is of 0 monetary value to them?

The question wasn't are they doing it. The question was why they sure doing it. And I answered the question. You are merely asking it again. Read my reply, again.
If you doubt this is happening, reply to the op, not to me. Because you're asking a question ("why") I've already answered quite well.

Ok, many thanks.
I am 99% convinced there will never be Fire OS 5 for Fire Phone.
Also no bootloader unlocker.
You probably have to live with that.
The FirePhone was dropped by Amazon and they fired about the half personell of their R&D dept.
So, no FOS 5 for the FP.
It is a pity, FP is a great smartphone.

If you haven't already, get Safestrap and replace FireOS with one of the custom ROMs (I'm a fan of Fire Nexus). So much better!
Hi, I saw a post at below address recently that the reply from Amazon seems positive.

some captured message is as below.
......
We are just planning to launch the Fire OS 5 on the Fire phone devices.
We will send this as an alert; In order to notify to all the customers before the launch.
There is no need to be concerned. Once if the update launches. Your fire phone device will be automatically updated with the software update.

Pretty much ignored everything you asked for with the standard uninformative blurb. It's likely a template response they have for anyone asking about an update for the Fire Phone. They likely don't have anyone on staff anymore for the Fire Phone. Anyone that was still around likely got moved to other projects.
I asked them the same question few months ago and they answered the same. I think it is a standard answer for this question.
It is a pity that Amazon doesn't take care of its customers. We can only wait for Fire OS 5.
Many thanks for your answers.
I couldn't care less about Fire OS 5, but it would be nice if they would just give us the bootloader unlock since they have ceased supporting it. We can dream, right?
just unlock the bl and we will build FireOS5 ourselves

Hi,
First of all, I ask you please read this entire mail, and try to make it reach people who can do something about this issue.
I will like to know if you can give any news about a software update on Fire Phone. I can understand you discontinued the product but less than 2 years of support is something that I would never expected from Amazon. I make a buying decision counting on Amazon good sense of responsibility and customer satisfaction.
Me and a considerable number of users are claiming for a Fire 5.0 OS in order to be able keep using most of the newest apps. Also features like Google Play Services are required for apps that aren't in the App Store, and the newest versions stopped working on the Fire Phone. My WhatsApp isn't functional on Fire Phone anymore, and using it from Google Play doesn't let me know how many messages are pending for reading. So I feel like I am forced to use a bugged phone or buy a new one. This is really frustrating considering that Nexus 5, Moto X, The HTC One M8 (among others) are from 2014 as well and still being completely functional and working with Android 6.0.
Can you please give me a satisfactory answer? Or should I assume that Amazon tricked me selling me a phone with an early expiration date?
Thanks in advance for your time and help,
Best

I think the best we can do is write Amazon making clear that at this point, we are somewhat cheated by them. Too much people angry trash talking about Amazon isn't something that I think they really like.
