What can I say! bring it on!

That's brilliant news! Can't bloody wait!

Brilliant, lets hope his word is good for it !!
Thanks for the info.

Sent them the email cos I couldn't watch Vixen Videos on The Daily Star

I still wouldn't be too suprised if it doesn't come out at that time.
By now it's getting kind of a fail on Google's side that they teased us with Froyo mid may and still haven't officially released it even on the N1. I'm afraid Apple's iOS 4 will beat Froyo to the market. After iOS4 mass market will not care much for Android at least for another half year.
We have to keep our hopes high though, so hopefully in 2 weeks we'll be running Froyo.

IF, and I say if, that's true then fair play HTC!!

I agree. I think if you don't release the update within a few weeks of announcing it publicly, it reflects very badly on your planning/preparation. And as much as I hate Apple, I think they are pretty good at these things, while Google clearly has a long way to go. If they do screw up with Froyo, Android's dreams of catching up with iPhone in terms of market share would remain dreams for a long long time.

Ah, so it begins. The rumour of the 23rd of June is now being pushed back by another two weeks before we even get to the 23rd.
Can we stop this? In just under two weeks someone will receive another email pushing it back another few weeks, and again, and again and so on.
Until HTC say "It'll be out on this date" this emailing customer service nonsense should just stop.

It says 'within the next two weeks'. ;-)
Chill dude.

Last time i checked the 23rd was in the next 2 weeks. OTA updates are rarely on the same date for everyone for a number of reasons, so an exact date may not be possible.

Well, see you all in three weeks for the customary self induced *****fest. People need to stop attention seeking.

I emailed customer service because I wanted to know if they had a fix for embedded flash not working, not to find out if there was an update coming, just thought I'd share the reply.
within the next 2 weeks includes the 23rd as far as my calender goes btw and they'd be stupid to update all desires on the same day - the network stress would be ridiculous!

Dear <me>, Thank you for contacting us. In regards to your query, I am afraid but that is not an official statment from HTC. Please find below the official statment about the update to 2.2 Froyo: "We are considering a Froyo(2.2) upgrade for some models of our phones, but we are still analyzing the impact this will have on the user experience. We will announce a full list of phones and dates once we are closer to launching the upgrades." I trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if required. Not over the air. How many desires have seen sold? Have a guess and multiply it by the 150MB or so of the update and see why not everyone will get it on the same day..
Personally im waiting for cooked Froyo Desire ROMs. Im sure the stock one will be nice, but i want FULL A2SD.

Some of you guys need to get a life! Continue with your life without *****ing around and when the update eventually comes, you'll see it. Those people at the helpdesk in HTC HQ are just people like you and me trying to do their job. They're told what to and (and more specific) what NOT to say.
So hold your horses, quit *****ing and bothering them, they're no gods, they're just lads trying to earn their beer.
Once the update is READY, you'll all see it flashing on your screen.
Thank you.

is there no way to just host it online and have it downloaded over regular internet?
i'm imagining it being like flashing the firmware of a dvdwriter or something.
would make it faster by a long shot and not impact the 3g network

This reply does kind of fit in the other leaks about froyo on the Desire. Namely end of June.
Off course until we actually have it on our phones it remains a question whether or not they can deliver in a timely fashion (unlike other htc android handhelds)
But the regular slips of htc support seem promising

maybe it was nothing but a fantasy?
Also had a (lengthier) conversation about this. The rep pretty much said the same thing to me.
Thing is they cant let out that a new update is coming. If they promise a update but dont deliver or dont deliver in a timely fashion it will simply reflect bad on the company (Headline: HTC Fails to deliver promised updates) while not promising anything and than delivering with something puts them in a more positive light.
Also, whatever budget they had for the development of the desire is probably spend so they (most likely) use developments from future phones (like incredible, htc evo etc.) to create a update for past phones.
But the reason behind the slow release is that they dont want to cut in to their own sales by having older, cheaper but just as capable phones on the market who are on par with newer phones by the virtue of an update (see htc hero and htc legend).
With that being said, I thought the update was still coming mid june or the end of june?

We hope so. So long as it's not what I like to call a "HTC promise" (0.0001% chance of being fulfilled on time).
well hopefully they'll bare in mind that not providing updates will reflect poorly as well. not so much the divx thing, but if they don't provide 2.2 and state some stupid reason this may be my last, not just my 1st HTC phone

HTC Desire Future Update

Hi, where can i find all the planned updates for the desire? and is FroYo is really different than 2.1?
HTC have not published any sort of roadmap for future updates, so your best bet is to go to your nearest psychic, and ask them!
And to answer your second question: Yes.
Regards,
Dave
June the 23rd ... thats the date we are all freed from 2.1.. LOLO!!
But then you have to throw Orange / O2 etc etc in the pot.. so to be honest ...
look on the forum .. and either get a new rom or wait till next year !!!!
23rd June has only been stated by a member on here - there's no guarantee that either him or the person he spoke to is telling the truth.

Sorry im kinda lost in translation here whats orange/o2 and why will i throw it? Lol
So basically the 720p, divx playback is just rumors?
So htc will just give us froyo then discontinue the updates and support?
First, Google makes the Android OS, so they'll release 2.2 (Froyo).
Then HTC add their own front-end to it, called Sense UI.
Finally, Orange, 3, Vodaphone and so on add their own tweaks (and rubbish apps) on top.
Each of those additional steps takes extra time, so basically Nexus One users will get it first, unbranded Desire users will have to wait a while for the HTC version, then others will have to wait even longer for the network versions.
If HTC go on the offensive with 2.2 on the 23rd i'll be laughing evilly over here. tbh I think HTC need to get this update out as simply put Sales will fall. the race between the two companies will be incredibly close. HTC need to make sure it's best hand is on the table. and keep there core elements separate and upgradable on the fly.
HTC will just release another dirge of handsets and forget the Desire. Am I being cynical??
Nope,
but with an official, yes will update it, with a possible date i'm hopeful.
i see.. too bad i live in the philippines so i will not get the updates from the mobile ops in other countries..
so the divx and 720p are just rumors?

I don't think you're far off with that assumption, my previous phone was a touch HD their former flagship model, it got one lame excuse of an update that did more harm than good, they kind of [email protected] us over with the 6.5 update that brings a stable and fast build, gave some lame excuse about users not wanting an update anyway
That made me not wanting to buy an HTC ever again, if only the desire wasn't the best android phone avaible at the time and my contract wasn't up for renewal, I wouldn't have consider another HTC.
According to a post on official blog of Polish service provider ORANGE, HTC is due to release the Froyo update for Desire in August 2010.

Yes throw your phones in the bins everyone, theyre useless now.
No. I just wish Id waited. Wanted Divx support and 720p. Well since I cant get that on Desire nor Iphone. I take the later cuz it is simple better.
We are only customer... buy and enjoy it
The way I see it:
I purchased an awesome Desire my first HTC phone of many. I did not expect plenty of updates but do expect updates to solve issues.
If I dont get any updates then fine as my handest runs like a dream. I dont have any issues and dont need any solving (well only user error)
Surely good buisness is to release a new handset rather than offering new roms to exsiting customers. As long as problem solving updates are done im happy and surely you cannot slate HTC for this.
If you purchased a Ferrari and then they release a new engine, sat nav, bluetooth, leather etc you cannot expect a free upgrade as then you wont purchase the new model!

Android Froyo delayed till September

Edit: This information may or may not be incorrect. Read it if you like, but dont post negative comments, its not cool.
Android Froyo delayed till September
July 3rd, 2010
Froyo Android 2.2
As Android Froyo has hit some roadblocks, HTC Desire, HTC Legend and HTC Wildfire seem to be the first ones to get affected.
As per initial plans, the Froyo was to be launched on the Nexus One and then on the HTC Desire after a week. However, Froyo does not seem to hit the handsets anytime before September as Google and HTC continue to keep the issues under wraps.
It is not just the HTC handsets that will be affected by the delay because most other Android Smartphones are also awaiting the Froyo. The recently launched Samsung i900 Galaxy S and the Dell Mini 5 (Streak) are few such handsets which will have a significant impact.
HTC has been in the forefront of manufacturing stunning handsets on the Android platform and as we all know they made the Nexus One for Google too. HTC Desire is the basis for the Google Nexus One and hence the striking similarity between the two handsets is inevitable.
Google on the other hand will be under pressure to get the Android Froyo out thanks to the launch of the iPhone 4. Inspite of multiple issues in the iPhone 4, it is still a stiff competitor for the Android 2.1 Eclair.
Do you have a source for this?
Is still Q3 as mentioned before
i call BS given that the only site which google searching the first paragraph is some crappy little mobile phone site
Nothing on google indeed. Any decent source would be on there in a minute.

Dont care.
The way its worded is implying that 2.2 in general isn't ready - which we know it isnt' true
Sounds to me like the quoted source (that is a quote isn't it) is reading a bit much into the 3rd quarter announcement. Mind you, I'd be pleasantly surprised if we see the update before September, but to call it as being delayed is going a bit far.
Also wonder what the source's source twice removed is for the expectation that the Desire was expected to get Froyo only a week after the N1. I mean, talk about speculation. Not even an optimstic developer on the inside would say "nah, we could do it in a week and I'll stake my career, no the whole company's entire reputation on it".

Why bother spreading nonsense? That no good for anyone. As stated, its quarter three that is the official info from HTC.
My edit: To spread rumours without reviewing your sources is in itself NEGATIVE(!) Good that you edited your post, but to apply scepticism to sources is NATURAL and in itself neutral (read not negative).
Please review your post and apply source criticism before you post posts containing rumours. That will spare us plenty of irritation.

thanks for the link. Biggest gripe is the delays on the updates. When they announced wp7, they promised an aggressive update schedule that would get to all phones around the same time. Still no pre- nodo updates in the usa and apparently nodo has been finished by MS since december and still not released....
Other than that, I do love my phone, just give me the updates you have promised.
And how about updating IE separate of the OS so it doesn't get the carrier run around.
Is it survey from MS ?
If it from MS, here we go..

I too, ragged about the updates.
I like the phone, but the updates need to come faster. Maybe that is what the ill-fated update to help the update process is supposed to be -- making things easier.
Let's hope so.
The real problem is these sites which incessantly get our hopes up because they want to one-up each other and get the "word" (which turns out to be poppycock) out and announce that they have learned (guessed, or completely fabricated is more like it) the actual update time. Then all us users hope its true and actually get pissed when it isn't.
They are all brainwashers! Believe none of them unless they refer to a Microsoft URL.

Received phone call from HTC support regarding Kernel

Hey guys. I posted in a different thread (can't remember which) that I emailed the HTCDev support team basically pitching a b*tch about the fact that Verizon's source has yet to be posted and that HTC is in violation of GPL. I was told it would be escalated and that was roughly a week ago.
I just received a call from HTCDev Support and they have informed me that Verizon's kernel source should be posted on HTCDev in the next day or so. Huzzah! Who said sending random b*tchy emails about stuff doesn't result in anything?
There ya go devs! official kernel source. Have at it! :good:

Hey dude just wanted to let you know in some places it may or may not be illegal to record a conversation without the other parties consent.
In like two minutes of Google research I have come up with (Assuming you live in the US) that there are about 12 states that require the consent of both parties and about 38 states + D.C only requiring one party to consent.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/google-taking-aim-at-device-modders-in-android-4-4-kitkat/
This concerns me greatly as a kernel modder...
I am worried they aren't going to release the source code until the One gets the Kit-Kat update, thereby enforcing this dm-verity feature...my only hope is that there is a toggle for it in the source. We shall see.
Still havent heard back from HTC yet on my end, just this: "Thank you for providing this information. I have forwarded your request for the Kernel Source Code to our Specialist. They should be in contact with you within 7-10 business days. They may be in touch with you sooner. It just depends on their current work load as they work on a first come first serve basis. In the meantime, Bryan, I hope you enjoy your week!"

In like two minutes of Google research I have come up with (Assuming you live in the US) that there are about 12 states that require the consent of both parties and about 38 states + D.C only requiring one party to consent.

The issue with that is when they record conversations from customers calling in they don't ask for consent right? They just do it. I'm sure it's probably frowned upon. At this point, with how long they've basically not cared about violations of GPL with their refusal to release source, I don't care. Any excuse they try to give us will be BS. T-Mo and AT&T released source for their one. Both 4.1 and 4.1.2. When any of us email to complain about it we always get the same canned "We understand that kernel source code is valuable and essential for all developers..." blah blah blah. They know but they don't care enough to release it. I'm tired of it. I appreciate the warning and I will delete the part about me recording the convo but honestly I shouldn't have had to even felt the need. I had a feeling it was possible they would try to blow smoke up my @$$ and attempt to placate me and say it was being released soon so I wanted documentation. They don't offer transcripts of the conversations freely when you speak to them. Essentially they can say anything they please and not be held accountable for it and that is the exact opposite of customer service and support that HTC likes to claim they pride themselves on. Customer service and support doesn't end at device purchase. You can't claim to be developer friendly and then deny the very thing developers need to develop on the platform.
HTC clearly made one of the best android smartphones of all time. I just wish they would actually support the dev community since, you know, they're "Developer Friendly". Sorry for the rant but I'm tired of waiting... and waiting... and receiving "we know it's important" email responses.

Yeah I saw that when that story broke on the main XDA page. It seems very anti android. I found it odd Google would be taking that stance.
The response is the first response I received. Then it was exactly a week and I received that phone call last night saying it would be released. I just checked AGAIN and it has yet to be uploaded to HTCDev. I will be calling them and inquiring about it after I get off work as that would be exactly 24 hours since I received their call. Not happy.

Sorry Breaking, it was only meant as a joke, I wasn't trying to mess with you. I was just surprised that you got an actual response from HTC that appeared that they were listening to their customers for once, and not just the typical form letter response you usually get.
If it rustled your feathers my bad.
Sent from my HTC's darkside.

No man it was my fault. I reacted poorly. I took it the wrong way. Sorry.
I went to the HTCDEV website and looked for kernel source code but wasn't able to find ANYTHING for Verizon's HTC One. I think they just said that as a blanketed response. Hopefully we get the source code this month when they release 4.3

If that's the case it doesn't make sense. If that's all they were going to do then why even call period? It's a waste of their time and mine. That's an asinine method of customer support. I'd rather them not even call. I didn't expect a call. I expected the "escalation" to be the end of it. This is frustrating as hell. I'm calling them this evening and I will point-blank ask if they ever truly intended to release source or if they were just telling me what I want to hear to shut me up. That line of thinking is idiotic. You tell someone that, when honestly you don't have to (even if HTC wants them to it makes no sense), they are going to follow up.
