I am not sure if anyone is interested but I got a response from Audible about their WP7 app. I dipped my toe into the WP7 waters (I have been an Android fanboy for a while) and I love it but I use Audible a lot. It is the only app that I used regularly on Android that has not been released.
For now, I stripped the drm off the files (shhhh) and used the ingenious "create a podcast" solution in the forum.
Hello Rich,
Thank you for contacting Audible.
I understand that you are inquiring about the release date of the Windows Phone App. I will be more than glad to answer your questions regarding this app.
At this moment, we don't have the release date available since it was slightly delayed due to a technical problem we had on the testing phase of this App. Our App is almost ready to be released; however, we are currently working on the final details to ensure you that we will provide you with a high quality product. When the application is complete, we will be announcing it on our website, newsletter, and social media channels.
Thanks for your interest in using Audible with Windows Phone. If you need any further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Have a wonderful day.
Sincerely,
David A.

"slightly delayed" is an Understatement
Thanks so much for posting this. I love my HTC HD7, except for lacking the audible app. I feel like I have been waiting forever. I got my phone on the day it was released in November 2010. I usually listen to my audible books on my Xoom Android tablet.

I think that the app was demonstrated with the Nokia 900. I am not sure if it was released with the phone but I doubt it. Hopefully it will be released soon.

Ok, I see it now. It looks like it is going to be quite a bit more than just the audiobook app:

So what happened? I still don't have it in the marketplace even though I have read at least two blogs that say it is now available. The blogs also mention that Draw Something should be available but it is not. It also is not mentioned on the Audible webiste.
I have been wondering if there is some sort of misunderstanding. The guy that presented it was also talking about the ability to control the app with the voice interface. I have been wondering if he meant that the tool will be available in the sdk later in the day. I did not hear the entire presentation.
I have to admit as an Android user, I keep thinking that maybe there is a cache somewhere that needs to be cleared or some sort restriction in the market.
Audible app is not in Indian marketplace yet. Dunno about other marketplaces.

But...but...their lack of releasing this when they said they were going to is totally f**king me! I can't believe they would do this!
The fact that I have a device that is about the size of a pack of smokes and connects me with the sum total of human knowledge and communicate with anybody in the world from virtually anywhere is not enough! If they don't release this soon, my life is totally screwed!!!
Oh...sorry...I have been reading too many of the other threads in this forum.
Back to being patient...
Here it is in the marketplace:
http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/apps/bdc813dd-c20b-41f8-8646-de72fa0b365d
It is odd because it doesn't show up in search. I found a direct link on a blog.
Hmmm,
Your right, it doesn't show up with search, so I followed the link, and it tells me it's not available in my (UK) marketplace

Though it still doesn't come up in search, the link works here in Indian market. Can be installed too. Installed too and it works. Didn't test any audio-book because none was free.

Should be coming soon to the UK
From the Windows Phone blog comments (by MS employee):
This is not a US-only app. There was a bug that happened only in the UK and 4 other countries (I don't have the list handy at the moment but wanted to respond to this without waiting), it was resubmitted last night with a fix for it, so it should show up soon.
June 22, 2012
App is now available in the UK

I recently tried the Graphic ly comic reader app in the Windows Phone Marketplace. Hoping to find a comic reader as good as droid comic viewer I found myself very very disappointed. The controls are shoddy, pinch to zoom is flakey and you have to zoom all the way out to turn the page. This is a far cry from the original video that was shown to consumers.
I understand that newly released products are no always perfect so I figured I would share my concerns with the developer. Their response was shocking and disappointing.
We would like to improve our WP7 app much more in the future, but I
will be straight with you: due to the low sales of the windows 7
phones we have put the improvement of the app lower on our priority
list than the continual improvement of our other apps.
In the meantime: please check out our adobe air application and our

Any comics that you buy in any of our applications can be read on any
of our other applications. *Your graphicly login should work on any of
them.

Now I know business is business but to release a bad product in the first place is unacceptable especially when the app merely needs some tuning. Due to the lack of planned future support I can only suggest that you guys stay away. Here is hoping that robot comics releases one on WinPho 7.
That is such a load of happy horse****. There are many apps where the developers are frequently updating and providing excellent communications between themselves and the users.
When WP7 takes off - and it will - I hope that many others are aware of the developer's attitude and shut them out. Let the money go to another comic app.
I was very dissapointed with the graphic.ly app, especially compared to what we've seen before. This attitude isn't going to get them any customers. If they're not going to put any effort in the phone app, I don't see any point in buying comics from them or getting their adobe air app.
Shame, i was hovering over it recently....
Thanks for the heads up. I like to stay away from those types of attitudes of devs and updates/support. "EA ruined a good brand after Westwood"
If it's not important enough for them, guess it's not important enough for me to use.

That's depressing. Low WP7 sales volume not good. Hopefully this app dev is just a WP7 hater.
Considering that, at least in the US, folk generally wait until their account is due for a subsidized upgrade before getting a new phone (mine just happened to drop in late November ), it makes sense that sales for WP7 haven't exploded yet. I could see holding off on making an app until WP7 grows in market share, but to release a shoddy app, charge for it, and then not support it just because it's not a cash cow yet is simply horrid customer relations. Seeing as the potential dollar is apparently all that matters to these jokers, I'll be sure and speak with my wallet, and mark this one off of the potential to-buy list.

Sorry about that message from Graphicly - it was wrong.
Hi,
Im Micah, CEO of Graphicly. I am unsure of who would provide you that message, that we are not supporting the Win7 Phone application, but it is wrong.
We continue to develop and maintain the applications that our community desire.
The WP7 app that we put out was our v1. We are working to improve the reading experience and other aspects of the application, as we know its it not perfect yet.
Of the applications we have, our Adobe AIR application has been around the longest and has the most development hours into it.
As the WP7 phone continues to grow, we will continue to develop against it.
If you have any questions, or want to discuss this further, I can be reached directly at 720-248-8499 or via email at [email protected] (GTALK too).
Again, I apologize for the confusion, I will make sure that everyone on the Graphicly team understands our product roadmap.

Hopefully someone from XDA can validate, but if this is indeed true I thank you for clearing things up Its nice to see brands out there connecting with their customer and stepping up to the bat like this.
Hopefully we'll see the app improved! You could always open it up on CodePlex and let XDA hackers have at it!
It is indeed me - How would you like to verify it? I can give you my mom's phone number... How about this - we have promo codes enabled in the AIR app. Use "techcrunch" (no quotes) and get a free comic. We used it for an old techcrunch article, and I think its still alive. Then when you use the WP7 phone, it will be in there, and you can give me solid feedback on the mistakes we made.
Tell me more about CodePlex. I would be happy to let the community at it. We are doing something similar with our Win7 app. Building out APIs that are secure and can be built on is a personal passion of mine.

I did not want to post the name but originally I wrote the email in reply to the email I received about you guys releasing a Google web app to this emai "[email protected]"
I received a reply back from a Audrey Zarr stating what I posted. I sent her a polite email expressing my dismay with that type of business attitude and never got a reply back. I certainly wasn't trying to slander your company but knew it would be best to share this info on the web.
I understand that this is a v1 app and I would have been perfectly happy with a "we are working to improve this app" type of answer. Instead I was given the previously posted information. Currently your app is sitting at 1 star, I would hope you guys would want to improve that. Best of luck on your next release.
yeah... [email protected] is the reply email on our newsletter. Audrey is one of our engineers, and is tasked with answering questions about bugs, issues, feature requests, etc.
Your question is quite valid, and in some ways, her response (we are a small company, and we have to focus on the products our community want) is correct. Except the part about us abandoning development on the WP7 app.
A couple of other points (really just FYI). The video from the MIX conference was a proof of concept. We were asked to show off what Deep Zoom would look like in our reader, and so we did. As the months passed and the WP7 software progressed, it became clear that we wouldnt be able to have deep zoom on the finished app.
Other issues: The dev phone we had was a samsung, which is not even one of the release phones. It made things like having pinch/zoom work properly really tough.
So, do we want to make the app better? Of course we do. We want all of our apps to be solid and work at a high level. I believe that the WP7 platform has potential.

I understand that there were time constraints but phone operating systems as of recent seems to lean on their marketplace for success. A bunch of half baked apps won't appeal to anyone.(see palm) That was my main reason for reaching out. I also understand focusing on what the market wants, Microsoft has deep pockets and this OS will eventually be pretty successful. I will spend my money and time on apps that were well made and supported from the get go. As a vendor of comics I am sure your business relies on repeat business.
Or do we only know its going to be in january at somepoint
Well, everyone keeps saying sometime in January but where did we even get that from? Microsoft post something?
I think Microsoft said 'sometime early in 2011' but everyone started saying January...
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is delivering the pre-show keynote on January 5th. One could assume that there would be other minor updates before Mango is released in the fall. Foley also mentioned the possibility of a Windows Phone 8 (codenamed Apollo) launch in late 2012.

Sure would be nice if they would pull a Sega Saturn and announce a decent update and tell us that it will be available that day
Wishful thinking I guess...
I hope its within the next 2 weeks or so. Microsoft really has to get the ball rolling on these updates to close the gap.
I think for a brand new operating system Microsoft have done a very good job and I am sure as and when updates occur it will only get better.

They came from sites like Engadget, Gizmodo, Pocketnow and others, reporting the Jan. and Feb updates. For the Feb update, it was supposed to be so massive that it could be considered WP8. Now, however, MS has reported a massive update for Aug/Sep. Reading between the lines, one can expect the first two updates...if they actually do happen...to be minimal at best.

That's how I feel about the Internet button on Android Nexus One/T-Mobile G2 builds. All 3 of the buttons are permanent in the OEM launcher and the Internet button is a waste of space. It's rarely used.
But I have used the WP7 search button quite frequently in apps like the Marketplace or Zune.
the search button is actually quite useful if programmed by the app. for example, i work at a bank and if we made a proper app, the search button can be utilised for transaction searching, or address book searching.

How did you get board express working. Mine hasn't worked since the last update.
Edit: nevermind. Its working again.
I'm expecting news about the first update on Wednesday later this week. That's when Microsoft is having a keynote speech at CES, so it's the most likely event for them to present the first update and show off the new features/improvements.
Regarding the second update, it is logical to think it would come in February at Mobile World Congress. However I think the two updates are a little too close together, so this part of the rumor may be wishful thinking. There's definitely a chance this could still happen though.
Now, what's actually going to be in each update is still a question. I'm assuming both will bring some bug squashing and at least one will hopefully make those annoying camera settings finally 'stick'. I think multitasking is still far off (probably with the 'Mango' release), but I think we could see Bing Maps Navigation in the second update. They've done it before with WM6.5 so I hope they can do it quickly for WP7.

I read somewhere a few weeks ago that the bing maps team that were developing for 6.5 were redeployed at very short notice back in July in order to get working on turn-by-turn navigation for WP7. That's why turn by turn nav on 6.5 disappeared back then. Not that anybody outside of the US ever got to use turn by turn on 6.5.
I would imagine that turn by turn will make an appearance in January, but probably only for the US initially. Most other markets (my own is Ireland) don't even get local searches in bing, so it is actually impossible to even search for a street address in this market as of now. We dont even get POI listings (restaurants, post offices etc).
I'm all for not getting your hopes up, but come on. Do you REALLY think that those Verizon apps that got leaked in the Marketplace were just for show?
CDMA support is obviously coming in January, no later than that. And what will we need to even have CDMA support? That's right, an update. Might as well go ahead and drop copy and paste in there (which is already READY for god sakes, an early version was even showed in a video last month, or did you all forget) as well as other confirmed updates like custom ringtones and such.
Probably a separate update dedicated to multitasking in February. In fact, MS already has the tech set in place for this. Go play a song in the music/videos hub. Now go surf the net or write an e-mail. Hell, go do anything on your phone. The song is still playing.
Basically, it's technically already enabled in the OS itself. We all know this. All they need to do to make it happen for 3rd party apps is update the developer tools to enable it to be utilized, and push out an update with a suitable task manager.
Use your brains people. It IS Microsoft but then again it is Microsoft. We used to expect them to not deliver in timely fashions but in the past few years they've gotten a lot better with that. And with all the money they're pouring into Windows Phone 7, it's obviously not just a little thought in the back of their heads. On the contrary, it's important enough to make them NOT wait until late 2011 to push out some of the stuff I outlined above.

Yeah despite this being old, this is a big indication we could see the update between tomorrow and next week. I'm sure Microsoft wants to get the update out before or during MWC so they have something worthwhile to present there.
Also, I'm expecting details of that second update at the MIX 11 developers conference this year. After all, MS introduced WP7 at MWC and then went into more detail when MIX came around.
Perhaps 7th Feb
Ive read that the update will be out on the 7th Feb.
I wouldn't count on Feb. 7 date, it may happen but don't get your hopes up. This rumour reminds me of the MS CES tablet stuff that never really happened. The original blog that reported Feb. 7 didn't provide any proof did they?

Can I ask a possibly dumb question? Why is everyone so pumped for an update?
It's just, I know it'll speed up apps loading, and add copy+paste, etc. But I mean, even without it, wp7 is such a smooth OS, I just don't know what the rush is in hoping for an "OMG UPDATEZZ!!!1!111". It's not like wp7 is broken right now, and only an update will make it useable. And honestly I've only needed to use copy/paste once, and even then it wasn't a big deal...
I suspect everyone will be quite disappointed by the update...

I suspect that none of the features/fixes in the update, by themselves or taken as a whole, will be a "big deal". For many of us, this is a test of Microsofts credibility and support for this OS. The real question is, are they going to become responsive to their user base and make serious attempts to keep current with their competition? Most of us are waiting to see how often they release updates and whether the contents of those updates are valuable to their user base. We won't know that for a few updates I am sure.

The real signal that the update is coming soon is when the Zune and Mac clients are updated to make backups. That's what I'm most looking forward to. Up until now there's no way to back up text messages, files, or app data and I have a lot of stuff on my phone I'd like to protect.
I use the Samsung Focus. I've never had any Market place issues with freeze ups, Ive certainly never had a random hard reset. I've only wished hard, around 4 times since 11/8/10 that I could copy and paste. I also haven't been able to view 90% of the embedded videos on the web sites Ive visited (Flash?). I want an update.. like 3 weeks ago like the big boys at MS said I would. I want to have enough faith in MS that come next upgrade I feel excited to update my hardware not my OS.

No lags, no issues with Marketplace, no resets, no freezes, two instances when copy and paste would have been nice, but countless need for Flash. Waiting to see what MS comes through with, and then the frequency of followup updates.

It's more the outsourcing period...
I need update. So many things missing.
Countless c&p lacks, flash..... Eeeeh, it's so annoying.
Marketplace works like crap sometimes - just hangs.
Also some apps are laggy.

Nothing wrong with the country, but I've seen several references to how outsourcing to low-cost countries really doesn't lower the development cost...Here in Norway, it seems most of the outsourced projects gets scrapped because they never finish. Might be because it's hard to delegate to people almost on the other side of the world, might be differences in cultures etc etc.
I don't put too much trust in outsourcing at all...unless the management actually spend time with the team.
So microsoft releasing their second online survey on the experience or lack of it on windows phone 7
So rather than ranting here it would be better to send the feedback to MS directly
So heres the link

Me too.
I'm fairly forgiving when it comes to Microsoft, but this takes the cake for sure. I urge everyone to rip'em a new one on this survey and I bet you we won't see a 90% plus satisfactory rating next time they release any numbers.

LOL
I actually don't think they would manufacture numbers. I am confident that the numbers they reported earlier were real. What will happen now is that they'll simply leave the satisfactory rating out of the press release

Ah sure people discover new things over time. And it still contains what would you change and your favorite feature texts box
It has a few changes in it though
i personally don't even think this is an MS survey... wouldn't they use their own systems not some third party to take a survey?

Nope, it's official. Been tweeted by various MSFT employes/teams for a while now. You should probably use this Uri though.
thanks for the link. Biggest gripe is the delays on the updates. When they announced wp7, they promised an aggressive update schedule that would get to all phones around the same time. Still no pre- nodo updates in the usa and apparently nodo has been finished by MS since december and still not released....
Other than that, I do love my phone, just give me the updates you have promised.
And how about updating IE separate of the OS so it doesn't get the carrier run around.
Is it survey from MS ?
If it from MS, here we go..
Did it......!
survey
I too, ragged about the updates.
I like the phone, but the updates need to come faster. Maybe that is what the ill-fated update to help the update process is supposed to be -- making things easier.
Let's hope so.
The real problem is these sites which incessantly get our hopes up because they want to one-up each other and get the "word" (which turns out to be poppycock) out and announce that they have learned (guessed, or completely fabricated is more like it) the actual update time. Then all us users hope its true and actually get pissed when it isn't.
They are all brainwashers! Believe none of them unless they refer to a Microsoft URL.
Enjoy Windows Phone 7!

Remember the infamous link to the Microsoft URL referring to the "january update"? It's all based on real information.
Maybe a god side or not? =) Maybe WP7 is so good XDA dont haver the same relevance, maybe there isnt any users left?
.... hey, thats a lot of maybe´s =)
Really there's nothing to talk about until Mango and the new devices that will bring. Everything has been said already, the same arguments have exploded again and again. It's just a waiting game now.
I used to be more active in the Captivate section ... But it was because there was always the hope that something would come out that would fix the lag, GPS etc. Fortunately with my Focus, everything just works. It's kinda nice haha.
Yep. Patiently waiting for Mango.
Nice to not be alone being satisfied with WP7. I am only waiting for my carrier contract to end so i can switch and let the call issuess drop. I love my Omnia 7, i really do, its the best phone i have to date (Used HD2 and was happy then). But the Edge problem with Samsung Phones in generall is a annoyence.
Still i come here to hope for some small things. I still want my flashligt 8Camera led) app like HTC without hacking.
Used to hack phones a lot before, but with WP7 it´s not that importent.

// stupid 10 character limit. -.-
This thread just sums it up. Everything on WP7 just works. It's so fluid it doesn't need to be tweaked. Everyone waiting patiently for Mango ;-)
Sent from my HD7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
I wholeheartedly agree WP7 does almost everything I need my smartphone to do but it will not play audio books. I have them on my phone but I cannot save my spot. It treats an audio book like a mp3. I tried treating it as a podcast but Zune then fails to see it. I am stuck using my damn Nano.
This is a big missing item for me. Combine that with the lack of vendor support and I am getting frustrated. No audible application. No HBOGo application. No LogMeIn ignition. I even boycotted audible and told them they lost a customer of over 5 years until they step up and get my my WP7 app. No luck so far...
It seems WP7 is still not considered a player and that is very frustrating because overall this phone rocks!

haha - True enough. I've got some insider connections, and am trying desperately to get into the pre-release of Mango.

There's an app for playing audio books that supports bookmarks. It's called Audio Bookmark if I recall correctly. There's definitely a thread about it here on XDA.
[Edit]
Found the thread about it: clicky

I won't give up hope that there'll be an update through Zune or some sort of ROM for officially developer unlocked devices. If not, heck, I'll have to wait for the official release. Either way, I'm looking forward to it.
i'm saving all my rants until mango gets its first delay.
i'm saving my rants until mango doesn't fix notifications.
Isn't it Great!!!!
Yes, the naysayers, doom sayers "it's not my old WM6.5 whiners" and "WP7 is a fail" sayers are gone. I really miss the latter, they were comic abusers of the English language. I challenged all of them to return after Mango and apologize for wasting space here and wasting our time with their frustrated, comical rants. They are gone because the news is universally good relative to WP7. Aquisitions, alliances, features etc. have all been good and in fact, much better than any of us had dreamed. It will turn out that WP7 is an OS and UI to reckon with. I am very pleased with my Focus and was one of those WM 6.5 tweakers and flashers who initially thought I missed all of that wasted time spent waiting for a new ROM to flash. No need anymore and don't want to be there ever again.

You may want to look at Overdrive. It's Audio books from your library. I just installed it yesterday and looking for my library card to check out my first Audio book.
Thanks Guys.
Unfortunately Audiobookmark and Overdrive both only support mp3 formats.
Although I am glad to see Overdrive is now available - it is still not really useful until they implement WMA support. Almost all the audiobooks I checked out and are interested in are in WMA format, aaaaaaargh.
I did find a very kludgey workaround. I load the book onto my iPod. I then pull it off using iDump which gets it on my computer in a m4b format. I change the file tag genre to "Podcast" and then add it into Zune.
That finally gave me the ability to listen to my audiobooks as podcasts which allows me to use bookmarks in an audiobook checked out from Overdrive. A bit of work. Not sure if it is worth it to not use my old iPod.
Its quiet because there is literally nothing going on with WP7 right now. Nothing.
Until mango. When it gets here, there will be a burst of threads and new arguments.

Well currently there is absolutely nothing to talk about isn't it? It's still the same crippled OS with no Marketplace for most countries, no native letters and proper maps for most either, until Mango comes this fall - easily 4 months away. Plus not even one more new phone since launch. No customizations either. So what to talk about?
The user base here is pretty much limited to people who just "patiently wait" for upgrade. Those who didn't want to compromise their usage already switched to something else.
I am really curious what will be WP7 situation after Mango with unstoppable wave of Android and new iPhone. Really really curious how Nokia/WP7 will appear because honestly all other OEMs didn't REALLY meet my expectations.
So summing this up: exiting times ARE ABOUT to come, so it's hard to repeat endlessly future plans here.
