NOTE: Typo in poll, CE 7.0, NOT 6.0
I was in Bett 2010, an official rep there said that winmo 7 WAS NOT BASED ON CE AT ALL!!! No more infomation was given, my source is based in an office next door to the winmo development centre, he says that there is no CE BUILD USED AT ALL!!! He didn't anything else, if this is the case, we may have a serious problem, sorry to break the bad news

Don't mean to be harsh, and thanks for informing the community,
but... so what? if it were true, why would it be a bad thing?
Why a bad thing?
Maybe because all our programs will become a unusable piece of ce code?

Exactly. Cab files and all that would be a thing of the past and we'd all have to start over from square 1 and re-learn everything.

How about not being able to use all those apps you may have purchased that are based on CE. (Unless of a compatibility feature/how'd that work with vista? lol) May have to wait till software developer creates new version (if they decide to port).
I seriously don't doubt that in this case there will be some compatibility functionality. It just would not make sense business-wise if microsoft didn't, so I still don't see why it's a bad thing...
Survey says....... thats a lie.
how do I know?
Simple, we would've seen OEM software i.e. HTC, LG, Samsung leak something totally unfamiliar to us.
WM7 rumors get crazier by the year.
Unless Microsoft has suddenly turned into Apple, they will provide backwards compatibility.

Please, give us more information if you can. Because if that is true, then it would confirm a very interesting theory that I thought about, based on things I've heard.
So please, try to find out more! Most important, try to find out information about the next CE based version (WM6.6?).
EDIT: By the way, I think this is in the wrong forum, shouldn't it be in General?
As far as I know, WM7 will be based on CE7. That means we'll need new bootloaders etc. There's also some stuff that seems to point to CE5.2 (WM5+) code not running on the CE7 base (the CE6 Zune HD things won't run on CE5.2 and I think the reverse is true), but I heard there was an emulation layer much like the way you can run programs in XP mode on W7.
CE7
Could this be the new WM7?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qq02FFo-lOI&feature=player_embedded#
Given that the memory model changed in CE6 and that WinMo 7 apparently has a HAL (http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=12103) it's likely that a lot of CE5.2 apps won't run on WinMo 7
That said, I wouldn't be surprised if apps built in .NET CF can simply be recompiled to run on WinMo 7 - it would be very unlike Microsoft to not provide some sort of backwards compatibility

Can't be true at all. The major advantage MS currently has in mobile segment is its vast application base. MS won't like commit a suicide by deciding to make WM7 not backward compatible.
WinCE has been around since ages now, by dumping WinCE, MS will lose it's market share in mobile/embedded devices sector. And if they are continuing with WinCE, then why not using it in their mobile OS, instead of creating a new kernel from the scratch.
Unless MS has decided to make PC and Mobile software compatible to each other natively.

Pretty sure they said it at MIX. I'm not going to dig through hours of video to find it though. And jeeze, you act like it's some sort of crazy idea. It's already running Silverlight 3+. Silverlight 4 was just finished recently. They don't have time to include it before launch.
It's rather illogical to say a phone based on Silverlight, wouldn't be upgraded to the latest version of Silverlight eventually.
And yes, SL4 was released 2 months after the WP7 preview
And it is silly to think that phone based only on silverlight won't support silverlight in Internet Explorer. Oh, wait
Copy and Paste took only 3 major versions of iPhone OS upgrades to be implemented. Why in 2010 I need to go back in time and live without C&P, while iPhone, Android and even Windows Mobile have it.
You know the Android implementation of copy&paste is terrible broken right? But feel free to get a Android, I'm sure the "no paid apps in Europe" makes it a GREAT alternative.
It never ceases to amaze me that people keep focus on the smallest of small issues, instead of the actual problems. I guess the truth is people are just annoyed about the alternatives being so crappy, that they have to complain about something to justify not buying the phone at first possible option.

Android is Google's first foray into the OS business. Microsoft has been around for decades. Windows 3.1 had c&p, Microsoft 1.0 had it (remember this? http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4915875929930836239#docid=-2992183880068262304) heck, even my old Commodore 64 running GEOS had it. So yes! I am a bit surprised to see such a basic feature missing in the latest Microsoft OS.
btw WP7 marketplace will only be for 17 countries and no sideloading alternative. If you could sideload, a developer can sell you the app from his website or on an alternative such as slideme
http://windowsteamblog.com/windows_.../07/13/windows-phone-7-getting-connected.aspx
17 countries at launch, and no-sideloading is really good for developers who want to write applications for a living. It ensures a good and uniform distribution center for applications.
And as I said with this topic, copy&paste is already made. It's just not supported yet, because the Silverlight 4 implementation was first finished in April.

Gameloft can actually sell their Android games to people living in your country since they can sell from their website. They won't have to worry about app approval restrictions, paying a share of their profits to anyone, or the race to the bottom where everything ends up selling for under $1.

And have to do their own marketing, setup a payment site and distribution channel, and deal with piracy!
And they can't sell apps directly on the phone, but have to guide users to a often long and complicated website url, and a site that's probably not even optimized for mobile phones.
You don't see the big issues here? Distribution and marketing is much much bigger issues than anything else.
Its not the same,
for instance if you send me an email with a coupon code in it, and now I want to paste that on the website of the specified vendor, I cant do it. Outlook doesn't support copy, and IE doesn't support paste.
Oh no!! i am compelled to either remember an 8 digit alpha numeric code (or write it down, sounds pretty primitive to me). What if it was an mailing address on a website that you wanted to email a friend - that's even worse.
I see no reason to stop complaining yet.

I have a complaint about this too. The phone 'phones home' to check if the application is valid. As a developer this is awesome, but as a phone user, I am worried about my data package.
For instance if I install a world clock app, as a result every time i check launch the app to check the time in Denmark, I use bandwidth.
In the states this might not be a problem, but in other countries, data can be expensive.
I hope the implementation of phoning home is elegant, and not burdonsome

Does someone here know if WP7 have encryption built-in on either the device or the filesystem, or any other similar security feature.
I am currently looking on changing our companys mobile platform towards WP7 and encryption will give a go or no go.

The money you will save waiting about 40 days will be worth it though, don't you think? Not to mention is what you really want right?
* Arpan Shah, Director for Product Management for Microsoft Project- more functionality coming in weeks not months. *
That to me sounds like before January.

Businesses don't usually make "promises" unless they are small and borderline irrelevant.
They say something and you believe it or not.
Then they deliver or they fail to deliver. I'm pretty sure they will deliver, especially since it so brain dead easy to test for WP7 and deploy the update to every device (due to a lack of fragmentation, unified experience, Zune-based updates, etc.).

However, the reality is
There more "it does not do it yet" than "it does it already" when it comes to WP7 in regards to its competitors.

I know this very well. Because next year, WP7 is going to compete not with iOS 5, but with iOS 6. And with Ice Cream Sandwich. So MS should think straight and have some cards hidden in the sleeves, because Tango may be fine, but they need Apollo since this year, and Mango since LAST year.
Even more now with "Googlerola".

Mango is already out there. And to be honest, I dont think it was a mistaken leak. I think Microsoft intentionally leaked it. Anyone can install, like Apple jailbreak. You can just go ahead and read some tutorials. It's no hard.
Right now, I have mango, in Portuguese, running perfectly smooth. I don't need to use third party apps to Facebook, MSN, Twitter, LinkedIn. And most importand than have their own apps, it's integrated with the system and working better than any iOS/Android app would do.
It doesnt have customizations indeed, but who cares? Thread message is sexy, notifications are pretty nice, though it have some flaws. The keyboard is LOT better than Android's, even if its not swype. Tiles simply rocks, fast app switch could be better, but its better than Android too.
The user experience is a lot better overall.

I count all of these features and they are still less than 100. It is still far from 500.
Most of the features are ones we do not see. Bug fixes, API updates, developer hooks and plug-ins, tons of stuff that we cannot physically touch or play with. That is until a developer takes advantage of the new features.
Once Mango comes out, you'll see much better apps on the platform, ones that are able to take advantage of many of 500 new features that Windows Phone Mango brings.
And that haters continue to hate for the sake of hating. Would you rather support the socially irresponsible company that makes overpriced under spec'd hardware and makes record profits while making NO charitable donations or even trying to help people in need, even those hurt in their own factories?!

that's politics. Your statement contains absolutely no content. You can easily replace MS with any other competitor and WP7 or Mango with any other OS.
what important functions?
what expectations?
many people? what does that mean? there are many people who don't like Android or iOS

Hello everyone, I might came with a dumb question, but I'd like to know if there's any posibility to make Windows RT (8.0 or 8.1 Jailbroken) able to install 3rd party themes. If there's any way, then how? I've been searching everywhere and there wasn't anything for Windows RT or atleast a way without 3rd party software usage... But, if there's any posibility, it would be very nice..

Yep. Surface RT has been my only windows device for the last 3.5 years as well. I got it as a gift. Initially I was skeptical about whether it would be of any use for me apart from light web browsing or documents editing and I was right for the most part.
But Android has come a long way and to be honest I haven't missed windows as much as I had thought I would. I'm not a developer, so having an Android phone as a daily driver is just enough for me.
However it's always better to use every device you own to it's full potential. A potential that windows RT could never achieve under Microsoft's money minded approach towards it
