Hello xda friends,
Got my note 4 Friday and my phone was randomly rebooting. TouchWiz would also lock up and either stop responding or would reboot. I called Samsung support because AT&T reps don't know anything. I was told the issue was hardware and that's it's a known issue. I was instructed to take my phone back for a replacement.
I asked why there has been no formal announcement yet and they said one should be coming soon. So if you're having this problem return your phone as soon as possible.
Hope this helps some of you guys.
My phone hasn't rebooted once since Thursday, but thanks for the info. It should help a lot of people that will still be within their return/exchange window.

My phone had a nasty lockup and reboot shortly after i changed it from dalvik to ART. Switched back and it's been running flawlessly since.
This happened to me a couple of times. I called Samsung and they had no idea and said I was the first to call about it. I don't think it's a big issue and I think it's touch wiz.
Happened on my first phone. Random lock ups and reboots. Got worse on the third day. Then I realized that is actually is a lot worse when playing games. Kingdom Rush Frontiers for example never worked. Kingdom Rush locked the phone very frequently. Listening to spotify for an hour or so caused lockups or reboots. I exchanged it at the AT&T store. The new one has been flawless so far. I highly recommend exhanging it.
This could all be the sign of a hardware fault in the individual unit. These things happen to every phone. There are not any wide spead reports of it being an issue with the note 4. You got a lemon. Either get some sugar and make something of it, or do the exchange (thats what warranties are for.)

Omar or whatever the Samsung tech guy I spoke to said that I wasn't the first person to call and to return the phone. Don't know why he would tell me that :/

Yeah I just got home with my new one. I could tell immediately how much smoother my phone was running compared to the previous one. They did a side by side at the att store and they were like "wtf. That should be faster".

I'm just reporting what I was told. Figured maybe I'm not the only one with an extremely slow phone, lockups, or random reboots on a brand new phone. Things like that should happen. Samsung acknowledged the issues, told me it's a know issue and to return it as soon as I can.
Random reboot, dropped calls, wi-fi freezing...
Same here:
AT&T Note 4 purchased on Oct 18.
Random reboots (a few times a day), dropping calls with "No network available" for about 20 seconds thereafter (a few times a day). Wireless network stops working with no way to reactivate (greyed out control), only a reboot fixes it. "Fixed" that one by disabling "smart network switch". Called AT&T: no info about problems.
Giving it a few more days but will most likely return for an exchange (they don't have them in stock...).

The AT&T note 4's seem to have the most issues ....maybe it's the bloatware
Personally, ive owned every galaxy device that AT&T has offered, and EVERY one of them has had random reboots. I just assume its a samsung issue, for the most part i never notice becuase it doesnt typically happen when im using it. I typically only know when i pick it up and its wanting my password for decrypting my device.
I got a note 4 yesterday as well and everything your phone has mine is doing. I am getting a new one as well.
I have somewhat similar issue on my Galaxy Note 4 SM-N910C
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58094575&postcount=1852
my first one had random reboots... my second note 4 didnt' have a random reboot once in 8 weeks I've owned it.
I struggled with random reboots (like 5-10 times a day) of my N910A unit! I bought it from Swappa and I thought that Power Button is broken! That happened to my Galaxy S3 T999 (TMo's) long time ago and I had to replace the motherboard! But just regular cache wiping on my Note 4 from Android recovery fixed the issue, no more random reboots!

Hey folks
These aren't really random reboots, and they don't seem to be caused by an app. They're more like 'when I touch it the wrong way' reboots. If I set the phone down, or pick it up, sometimes it will reboot.
I checked the battery contacts so that's not it. I'm thinking its either a problem with some internal contacts, or something with the accelerometer.
Has anyone experienced something similar? I just passed my 1 year manufacturer warranty period, unfortunately.
Thanks

Hmm sounds like a hardware prob. It shouldn't be the accelerometer. Does it reboot when u are using it?
It rarely reboots when I'm using it. It will usually reboot when I pick it up or set it down. If I drop it on my bed from 2 feet up for example, it may reboot. What's weird is that its not a guarantee. In fact I've gone days without a reboot, and sometimes I'll get numerous reboots in a day.

Several people have noted there can be a problem with the battery not fitting snugly into the chassis of the phone. When you drop it, the contacts on the battery can move slightly off the contacts on the phone and it can reboot. Some people just shim the battery down a little.

I do not know how far you are out of warranty.
I was in the same situation 2 weeks ago. I was on my last day of warranty (so I thought), when I got tired of the constant reboots. I went to my local TMO store and they claimed that I was out of warranty by one day. Fortunately they put me on the phone with customer service. There it was confirmed that my warranty was out since 1 day. The person was very nice and said: "Let me see what we can do for you". She came back after one minute and offered me a waiver that would have allowed an immediate full upgrade. I told her that TMO does not really have any upgrade that I was interested in (I wanted a keyboard and stock Android), so she went back to her supervisor and came back with the offer that they would assume that my warranty would not run out on that day at 12am, but at midnight and that they would replace the phone under warranty. I have the phone now for a week AND no more reboots. TMO rocks !!
PS: I am with TMO for > 7 years
Yea tmo had some awesome customer service from my experience! I really hope they don't get bought out. Kinda inevitable though since the owners don't want it...boo!
Awesome experience! I work in Customer Service, so I know that I could theoretically get it replaced and whose arm I have to twist to get it. But I don't have the time to spend doing so. My phone hasn't rebooted in a few days now. I did a full wipe before I flashed my next nightly. I have my fingers crossed that it stays that way.

I feel silly even mentioning this, because I thought I might be the only one dumb enough to suffer from it, but I will go ahead and mention it anyhow. I was hating the reboots with my G2, and found somewhere that I needed to actually make sure the SD basket was locked in place. I had replaced my SD card, and didn't realize it slides into a locked position. Have never had a reboot since I clicked it in place. That was months ago. Hope it is something that simple for you. Yes... I know I was a dufus for not realizing how the SD basket worked.
I had the exact same problem and I could not figure it out. I finally did a complete wipe and reinstalled problem stopped. I also converted my partitions to ext4 but not sure if that would make a difference.
Could it be the radio?
I did a full wipe prior to flashing CM #231. I used titanium backup to restore my apps. Now the reboots were gone!
But my GPS problems returned. I flashed the next best radio 26.08.04.30. Last time I initially switched radios to fix my gps problem. GPS is still broke, and now I am rebooting again.

My ASUS Nexus 2013 edition running 4.4 (and previously 4.3) randomly reboots while charging and idle. It does it at least once a day while display pictures in "DayDream" on my desk at work. I contacted Play Support and they had me factory restore and the problem continues. I contacted ASUS support and they created an RMA but I'll be without my tablet for 15 to 30 days (annoying). I'm considering just living with it like this till Google pushes a fix or trying to determine if it is a hardware issues.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue and finding a solution short of ASUS's awful support option?
Yes. I just created a thread about this last night: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2557666
It's happened to me twice now and I know someone else who had to get their Nexus 7 replaced under warranty a few weeks back because the same problem. I just got the tablet last night and I have about five weeks from the retailer that I purchased it from to return it.
when i was running 4.3 i have some random hangs (for a few seconds then works again normally) and unreproducible random reboots.
update to 4.4 (which is still use today) the random hangs disappeared, but the random reboots still happen sometimes.
here's hoping the 4.4.1 update fixes it. waiting for OTA or until my patience for it runs out.
Don't wait for a software fix. If your device is rebooting randomly it is likely a hardware problem, get it exchanged/RMA while you still can.
i would like to, but as i said i cannot reproduce it (and it rarely happens). hard to bring to service center and unable to show it on their face. what do you suggest about that?
Mine is rebooting randomly but sometimes it is juste once a week or two and sometimes it can reboot twice the same day. KitKat didn't fix it but I installed 4.4.1 yesterday... I will see if this issue is still there in the next days/weeks

EDIT : first reboot on 4.4.1
I got mine in June and it was updated to 4.4 a couple weeks ago. It reboots randomly once or twice a week with no discernible pattern. Today I had an ebook reader (FB Reader) open and was in Chrome when it reset. The battery was above 95%. If it never got any worse I could live with it but I'm worried that it might get worse over time.
I am trying to register it on the ASUS site but it rejects the serial number from the "about tablet" screen. There is no sticker on the Nexus and I might have tossed out the box. Any suggestions? I have emailed Asus but don't know how their support is so I don't know when (or if) I'll get a response.
I was charging mine one day and it did it several times in a row, then I yelled at it and it stopped. The longer i've had it the less often it seems to happen though.
My device 16GB wifi has random reboot issue. It reboots so much time everyday.
I have done every possible way to solve my problem but no luck
Now in stock 4.3 (franco kernal) which gives less reboot than any other ROM.
1st i think, its a apps issue, soon i felt its not a app issue rather its a hardware issue. I have used 4.3, 4.4, 4.4.1, PA, CM, Slimbean, Slimkat, and many other roms and kernals , also i open back cover to solve reboot problem but no luck, reboot occurs as usual.
Also talk to google help center, give factory reset and they suggest me to send to RMA for replacement. I bought it by my cousin from US play store.
I am now outside of USA, so cant send to RMA now but i have cousin in usa who can help me to send it RMA.
Before doing that i want to know every details about RMA and how to send it from my cousin home? how much time would it take, Any cost for sending and receiving of the product (Any Courier charge)
Pls someone give details about RMA, I am kinda noob about that.....

They use the MAC address of the wireless under wifi/advanced settings instead of a serial.
Hi I have an unrooted Note 3 and have this weird issue which I am not able to reproduce. I would sincerely appreciate any help as I have to make up my mind soon If i have to go with Note 4 due to this issue.
Issue 1: Sometimes the whole phone freezes there is no way to get it back other than a battery pull, I dont know how or when it happens. It happens sometimes when I use the phone and sometimes when I put it to charging. Again I dont know when the freezing happens. For example I put my phone to charge last nite and i could hear the notifications before going to bed and in the morning i noticed that it is frozen and it did not charge at all. I had to pull the battery out and put it to charging again.
Issue 2: Random restarts was happening up until last month and it got fixed after a recent software update. I am not sure if it is going to happen again.
I would also like to inform that i broke my screen in April and Samsung fixed it. I am not sure if it could be because of this.
Also I am still under warranty and I can ask T-Mobile for a device replacement for $20, can anyone chime in as to the quality of the refurbs T-Mobile is giving. I did my research and I have note 4 with me that is fast approaching the return time. I like the Note 4 but I personally do not feel it is a significant upgrade over the 3 and I want to wait till Note 5 with an 810 chip on it so i can save some money.
Thanks,
Steve.
Keep it simple, go for the Tmobile refurb, these phones are sometimes just new repacked phones in refurb box. Besides you get new warranty.
Pp.
How do i get new warranty? They warranty the refurb only until the end of the original phhone warranty.
Samsung has a specific refurb warranty, I think 90 days.
Pp.
Oh okay I am kind of still doubtful, because I tried researching on the Web and it appears they had really bad qc on those refurbished ones and t-mobile charges 20 every time.
My wife's phone is having the same problems. She has a Verizon note 3. We have warranted the phone 3 times and no luck. It keeps happening. Would rooting the phone possibly fix the problem?
So after using the NOTE4 for 6 months and the latest lollipop updates just completely ruining my Smartphone experience, I started searching for my next phone. Fastest I've started looking for another phone on any smartphone I've owned.
Not wanting to dish out another $600 immediately, I took my NOTE4 to ATT repair center and after two trips, had my device replaced.
and I must say.. the new NOTE4 seems faster, has ZERO gps issues (locks in under 2 seconds). Car tracks smooth under Google Maps instead of jumping and getting stuck. And placed that I use to get really bad download speeds are now much better.
If you have issues with update and been having problem with GPS.. go get your phone swapped.
Several on this site have swapped our device multiple times over GPS issues and had just as bad a problem with the new one.
i'm thinking to do the same thing. Were they aware of this issue or they were surprised to hear that? What tests did they run to confirm you had malfunctioning device? Did you get temporary replacement for time your phone was in shop?
Guess this happens randomly, cause i have my Note 4 since it first came out and upgraded to Lollipop ? and have 0 issues.
Running On New Deadly Venom Note 4 v3.0
First time i went in they said they'll "FACTORY FLASH" the device to the latest Lollipop update. said sometimes the update over the air gets all messed up. so I let them.. tried it for 2 weeks only to see that it was behaving the exact same.
I use GPS all the time for work and the problem I had was when I would stop at the light, the GPS position would be stuck for 30sec to a min after I left that intersection. Made the GPS useless.
So I just went in.. same complaint.. they had log of what they did before.. and just said "we'll give you a replacement device."
I had them flash it to latest lollipop firmware and I haven't had issue since. Granted.. It's not as good as 4.4.4 GPS.. but it's workable.
and I'm only out of $8 bucks for the glass screen protector.
I may ODIN it back to 4.4.4 to test the temp root, but at least i know that my phone is good with 5.1.
Venom.. I got the NOTE4 on week of of release.. possible that mine was a earlier hardware with issues? can't be sure.. but I'm happy again with my NOTE4.
Waze GPS lost when static
Hello all,
My problem is that my GPS signal gets lost when I am stopped at a traffic light...
Has anyone else got this problem?
I have a release day Note 4 as well. My GPS sometimes loses signal when nothing is blocking it such as trees, tunnels, etc.
So experts,
Currently I am on S7 but I do miss my Note 4.
After Marshmallow update it started lagging, shutting off etc.. all known problems. To fix it I downloaded wake lock app and it worked fine but drained battery a lot.
I tried to flash it through odin etc... (not a technical guy I am, followed instruction from one of the threads on this forum).. took all the files on SD Card and after that phone never turned on.
It does not charge, no LED lights when plugged in, none of the buttons are responsive. I have tried everything like new charger, usb cable, PC, new batteries etc...
1) Do you guys think It's hardware problem?
If No then,
2) Is it possible to fix it and how?
Please note: Phone does not turn on or recognized by PC. If it is just software problem then I am determined to fix it. I may need instruction for even very simple steps.
Thanks in advance to all!
Bump....
Anyone?
Sounds VERY similar to the problems I and others have had with hardware. I sent mine into repair, and for a flat $74 fee, Samsung reported errors with the charging circuit, main board, camera, etc. They replaced darn near everything on that phone, all for $74... Well worth it, in my estimation. Phone still performs better than today's $400 phones... Call samsung and they'll set you up. Had the phone back in under 10 days.

Oh ok. I better do that if it is getting resolved in $74. For some reason I am not able to adjust to Galaxy s7, been on it for 6 months now I guess.
I switched to cricket several months back, and have had relatively few issues until I downloaded an ad blocker. then I started having the freezing rebooting stuttering ect.
I tried to do a factory reset, and It got into a boot loop. Somehow I managed to get it booted properly clearing the cache.
I don't know why But it is almost like I somehow got new features after wiping. With s note, and a popup hitting the home button.
However
the freezing and reboot issues are still occurring. I had none of this till I downloaded the ad blocker.
Its currently on 6.0.1 baseband n910aucs2epk2 kernel 3.10.40-8932341 Build no mmb29m.n910aucs2epk2
can I try reinstalling the update, I haven't had one since switching to cricket. I assume I would have to instal it through sd card.
And When the second poster said to contact samsung for repair. Will they fix it if you aren't the original owner?
And specifically who am I looking to contact within samsung?
thanks

Don't know all the answers but I did contact Samsung. They have walk - in centers, just google it, contact the one which is near to you. You can either ship the phone to them or just walk in. I have not confirmed about the cost of repair yet!

Had word with Samsung repair and they said the max they charge is $199. Anything more than that is beyond economical value so they don't suggest to do it. visitng them this Saturday. Will update.

I visited Samsung walk in center today. In my case they refused to repair it saying that the issue is Motherboard (without even checking, but he seemed vary confident) and the repair cost is more than the price of new phone as of now. I tried to convince him to check at least. Disappointed I am, honestly! but this visit was like final nail in the coffin.
How did you convince them to do it all for just $74?
Call Samsung customer service, they've been great to me.

Samsung did fix it for $70. Phone looks fresh and new now! Great service. Thanks for your suggestion!!
Now I am confused between s7 and note 4. S7 has good features like finger print (very accurate) and samsung pay (brilliant) which is missing from Note4. But I may still switch to Note 4.
