Another attempt to bring Note 4 Back to life (ATT - Unlocked after contract was over) - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

So experts,
Currently I am on S7 but I do miss my Note 4.
After Marshmallow update it started lagging, shutting off etc.. all known problems. To fix it I downloaded wake lock app and it worked fine but drained battery a lot.
I tried to flash it through odin etc... (not a technical guy I am, followed instruction from one of the threads on this forum).. took all the files on SD Card and after that phone never turned on.
It does not charge, no LED lights when plugged in, none of the buttons are responsive. I have tried everything like new charger, usb cable, PC, new batteries etc...
1) Do you guys think It's hardware problem?
If No then,
2) Is it possible to fix it and how?
Please note: Phone does not turn on or recognized by PC. If it is just software problem then I am determined to fix it. I may need instruction for even very simple steps.
Thanks in advance to all!

Bump....
Anyone?

Sounds VERY similar to the problems I and others have had with hardware. I sent mine into repair, and for a flat $74 fee, Samsung reported errors with the charging circuit, main board, camera, etc. They replaced darn near everything on that phone, all for $74... Well worth it, in my estimation. Phone still performs better than today's $400 phones... Call samsung and they'll set you up. Had the phone back in under 10 days.

Oh ok. I better do that if it is getting resolved in $74. For some reason I am not able to adjust to Galaxy s7, been on it for 6 months now I guess.

I switched to cricket several months back, and have had relatively few issues until I downloaded an ad blocker. then I started having the freezing rebooting stuttering ect.
I tried to do a factory reset, and It got into a boot loop. Somehow I managed to get it booted properly clearing the cache.
I don't know why But it is almost like I somehow got new features after wiping. With s note, and a popup hitting the home button.
However
the freezing and reboot issues are still occurring. I had none of this till I downloaded the ad blocker.
Its currently on 6.0.1 baseband n910aucs2epk2 kernel 3.10.40-8932341 Build no mmb29m.n910aucs2epk2
can I try reinstalling the update, I haven't had one since switching to cricket. I assume I would have to instal it through sd card.
And When the second poster said to contact samsung for repair. Will they fix it if you aren't the original owner?
And specifically who am I looking to contact within samsung?
thanks

Don't know all the answers but I did contact Samsung. They have walk - in centers, just google it, contact the one which is near to you. You can either ship the phone to them or just walk in. I have not confirmed about the cost of repair yet!

Had word with Samsung repair and they said the max they charge is $199. Anything more than that is beyond economical value so they don't suggest to do it. visitng them this Saturday. Will update.

I visited Samsung walk in center today. In my case they refused to repair it saying that the issue is Motherboard (without even checking, but he seemed vary confident) and the repair cost is more than the price of new phone as of now. I tried to convince him to check at least. Disappointed I am, honestly! but this visit was like final nail in the coffin.
How did you convince them to do it all for just $74?

Call Samsung customer service, they've been great to me.

Samsung did fix it for $70. Phone looks fresh and new now! Great service. Thanks for your suggestion!!
Now I am confused between s7 and note 4. S7 has good features like finger print (very accurate) and samsung pay (brilliant) which is missing from Note4. But I may still switch to Note 4.

[Q] Galaxy S2 Wifi and Bluetooth problems.

Hi everyone!
I recently got a t-mobile galaxy s2. After having it for a week, I rooted it and tried different roms. The last rom that I installed on it was an alpha version of cyanogenmod 9. Everything was working perfectly for a few days and then I started having problems.
The problems are with my wifi and bluetooth, they wouldn't turn on. When wifi did turn on, the phone slowed down and then turned off after a few mins. Thinking this was a cause of rooting, I decided to go back to stock. I wiped everything, formatted the internal sd card, cleared all caches and completely restored everything to stock using odin and the problem won't go away.
Now I'm running stock touchwiz gingerbread rom and when I turn on wifi, it just says "error". I was only able to get it going once and thats when the phone got extremely slow and turned off.
Also it seems like everytime the phone turns off from wifi, the battery looses like 7-10% and it gets really hot.
Here are my questions,
Is this a hardware problem?
I don't have warranty because I bought it from another person. Can I send it out for a warranty repair somehow?
Thanks in advance.
I had the Wifi error also, had to send it in for repair. Make sure you Odin everything back to stock
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Thanks for replying.
Did your phone freeze and restart as well?
I called up samsung and they asked me to ship the phone..sent me a shipping label and etc. The problem is, I bought this phone from someone on craigslist. Will I need a receipt? So far it seems like they want me to ship just the phone.
Also I went back to stock completely with odin, do I need to do this as well?

edit: Forgot to add, how can I check if my phone is good to go for warranty repairs?
edit2: Ok I did some research and figured it out. Will update when I get the phone back
Same here...
Problem started with Bluetooth (dont remember which ROM) but I dont use wifi often so I dont know if it started at the same time. Then I switch from ROM to ROM for awhile... now my phone is kinda messed up.
I had the same problem as you, one of the phone which had a very bad battery life did not put the bluetooth to sleep and the phone got pretty hot. Something similar must have happenned to the wifi (same IC maybe?)
I think the IC is now messed up because I returned to stock, (recovery and all) did it 3 times, tried stock ICS stock GB. Then for no reason yesterday, Yay wifi working again, and bluetooth.. but by the end of the day, dead again !
So I get stuck with a wifi that can't turn on/off and a bluetooth that works when it want to...
I even tried messing with my /efs (everything was fine... I think...)
My Wifi & bluetooth MAC address are "unavailable" so I guess it's back to Samsung...
I saw some people complaining about this problem and saying Samsung products are not good... I must say that I owuld not have this problem if I stayed stock... like when I rooted my HTC desire and the "flashlight" turned on and burnt the LED... not HTC's fault... anyway anyone have another dea to try ?
---------- Post added at 03:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:01 PM ----------
Also,
I read like hundreds differents forums about this issue... most if not all of them ended sending their phone to Sammy...
Some did not search very hard for a solution but still. Many have reported that Sammy changed the motherboard, so I guess it's not all our fault ?
Hi has anyone noticed issues with bluetooth headset keep getting disconnected every 2 mins after this ics update? i have Voyager pro HD which was working fine on GB and problem started after this update.

Yes but it could be all related to my othe rproblems, so...
Bluetooth lost Galaxy s2 ics
I am loosing every 2 min about bluetooth since my update to ICS
Has anyone ever fixed this problem? I have been having the same problem for about a year now and I can't seem to find a solution.
I had this start with my phone around December 2012. It only affected Bluetooth, so I didn't worry too much as I don't use Bluetooth. Then my Wi-Fi started copping out about a month ago. I did some research, and it looks like it's hardware related.
I have an extended warranty that I've paid into every month since I bought it (December 2011). I called the warranty company up, and because it was out of manufacturer's warranty, I had to drop $150 on a new phone. I also spent close to an hour trying to explain to them that I had done nothing wrong to the phone. Apparently, it is in the same category as it being stolen or broken. I was so choked. I've babied this phone like crazy, in fact, it still has the protective cover you find on it when you open it fresh out of the box (I just cut off the tab). I was livid.
Well, my amazing wife ended up calling Samsung directly. The call lasted 5 minutes and they didn't even question the integrity of the phone (other than what I did to fix it and the problem itself). The representative said that because we had never called them before, they would replace it for us, free of charge. I question that they might know there is a defect that happens as this isn't a one-off, but I'm very satisfied with their service. I'll be
If you can produce your original receipt, call Samsung. They should do the same thing for you as they're doing for me. Ironically enough, I'm reverting everything back to stock and backing everything up and happened to see your post.
Hope this helps and good luck.
So just a bit of a bump/update:
I sent my phone in to be repaired (honored by Samsung) and once I got it back, it worked for a while. Shortly thereafter, it started acting up again. I noticed on the sheet showing what they did for service, was apparently doing a re-flash of the original ROM and a factory reset.
Funny thing is, I used a branded TELUS ROM that wasn't exactly stock. If you pressed and held the power button, it would automatically restart... which I found fishy. I saw that this was the exact same ROM that I had put on there once I got it back, so I doubt any flashing took place. All that was done was that factory reset.
Now, to the credit of the factory reset, it worked for a brief while, but ended up with the same issue.
I'm in the midst of doing some diagnostics, but I'm not familiar with logcat. I'm back to the latest PAC build as no other ROM made a difference. I'm going to tinker for a few more days, but I'm pretty sure I'm back to square one.

[Q] Major problem with my stock ATT E980

Okay, I originally got this phone as an upgrade over my HTC Inspire in July. It worked great, minus a few random reboots every once in a while (if I left it in my pocket for a long time or if it was really hot in my car it would do this, but that was it). Then, about a month or two ago, I rooted it and installed a custom ROM. I noticed that a bunch of my files were missing from my internal SD card, but I wasn't too worried about it. Then my phone started acting really weird and got stuck in a bootloop. I was able to boot into recovery, but I ended up using the LG Flash Tool and went back to bone stock. Still had the issue, except I noticed that my signal would drop, and then it'd get stuck in the bootloop. So, I contacted AT&T warranty and they sent me a replacement. Now the same thing is happening to this one. It gets warm, loses cell signal, then reboots, sometimes a bootloop. This phone hasn't been rooted at all, it's been left stock. So I contacted AT&T and the guy in warranty said he thinks it's the battery, but he didn't have any in stock so he couldn't send a replacement. So I was thinking it was the battery and called LG after it seemed to get worse. They told me that they could replace the battery free of charge if I send in the one I'm using first. Since this is my only way of communication, I contacted AT&T again, and they're sending me another replacement. (Said if this one screw up too, they'll give me a different phone all together). The guy had me download some AT&T remote support app and he looked at the battery health and said it's reading fine, and that because it's reading fine, he didn't think it was the battery. :|
Here's the weird thing, about two weeks ago, it went into a bootloop. I took out the battery for a minute an tried to put it back in. Nothing. I plugged the charger into it and it basically told me that it didn't have enough juice to power on. (battery was at ~40%). So I took the battery back out and tried again. This time it came on.
Then last friday, I was jammin out to music while I was working, it would reboot when I unlocked the phone. (battery was in upper 90%'s). I plugged the charger in while it did this and everything came up as it should. But after taking it off the charger and trying to do more work, it happened again and again.
Like I said, this phone is straight from AT&T and has not had anything flashed onto it by me, hell I never even disabled all the AT&T bloat this time. I've tried a hard reset, and it didn't help. Does anybody know what would be the cause of my problems? I really like this phone and really hope I can get this figured out.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, the phone still has its IMEI number and it has the value pack update.
Got the second replacement in the mail today. It hasn't screwed up yet, but only time will tell.

Wow hope this works for you. I just got 3 Optimus G Pro's on 12/30/13 and all 3 of them to date have not had any issues. 2 black and 1 white. 2 which are running stock. 1 stock which has had a bunch of the bloatware yanked (that we could get off of it). 1 stock which has had nothing pulled, everything left the way it is. And the 3rd one (which is the one I use) which I rooted to CyanFox 4.4.2 and later to CM11 4.4.2 Nightly and haven't had any issues like the ones you've explained.
Good luck though hopefully your issue is gone. Seems like a nice reliable phone (minus LG not wanting to support it furthermore ).

I really hope my issues with this phone are done too, I really love this phone. If I don't have any issues, it's going to get rooted and updated to KitKat. Otherwise, I'll try to get AT&T to give me a MotoX or a HTC One.

Yeah I like this phone with KitKat. Looks like a larger Nexus 5
Only problems i'm having with CM11:
1. ATT Visual Voicemail will install but upon playing voicemails program will freeze and crash
2. Tried Google Voice however you can only hear the voicemails through speakerphone, headsets, or bluetooth. Voicemails will no play through earpiece.
3. CM11 doesn't have Screen Recorder yet (Which CyanFox did although CM11 is still fairly fresh).
4. I would like to have the LG Camera app back! Dual video recording and some of those other features are gone with the android stock Camera app. Need to look into porting that back over to KitKat (if I can).
That's bout it though...

Haha yeah, this phone is beautiful with stock Android, I just end up missing certain touches that LG puts in their overlay.
BTW, this phone is doing the same thing as before. I strongly believe it's the battery b/c when it went into a bootloop, I took out the battery it was warm, so I put it in front of the AC for a minute to cool it down and it's been working fine since. So, I'm going to call AT&T and see if they will send me a battery, and if they can't, I'm going to have to send this one in to LG and be without a phone for a week...:'(
UPDATE: AT&T told me "since we have tried everything else-hard resets, replacement phones- and nothing worked, we will send you a battery since it's the only thing that has stayed persistent through this ordeal. We just got some in stock and are sending one your way. If the problem continues to persist, we will replace the phone again." IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!
Just curious, but what if I continue having this issue after I get my new battery? Should I try a similar mah zero lemon battery or just have att give me a different phone altogether?

i think there is an issue with the battery and whatever cable you use to charge the phone.I had to Lge980 when I used a thin cable I have in my room sometimes it did not charged at all and or shut down itself even when the battery had half charge ,sometimes it showed full charged but if I plugged the phone to a thicker cable connected using the oem charger or a usb 3.0 port at my laptop it showed the real charge level at 1/4 charge.I myself could't do anything since I got the phone second hand but as long as I used thick cable connected to a oem charger usb 3.0 or eben 2.0 I had no had any issues.
how'd it go?

If you want to stay on stock i recommend going to jellybean TOT 10k and rooting and installing a custom recovery back up the rom, and flash hkfriends kernel, and see what happens if you raise or lower your phones voltage, that might be the problem with it rebooting.
THE NEW BATTERY SOLVED THE ISSUE, BUT ONLY FOR A SHORT TIME. I upgraded to an HTC One M8 since, and haven't had hardly any problems with it, aside from the death star's BS

Thanks for the response. I talked to the techs at an AT&T direct service center and they told me it's a common problem with the Optimus Pro. I'm on my third one in 8 months now and this one started randomly powering off within 15 minutes of when I took it out of the box three days ago.

Yeah. My issue was the battery for sure. Make them replace the battery and it should temp solve the issue
From what I read on the first e980 i had these phone tend to have a hardware problem where the power button is creating the same issues as OP. Some refurbished e980s have the hardware problem solved.

Please help! Galaxy Tab S glitch.

So, I got a Tab S a couple of months ago and then about a month ago I started having some trouble with it. Lines flashing down the screen and the screen turning off. I'd have to lock and unlock to get the screen back on. Sent it to Samsung for repair and they sent it back about two weeks ago saying they couldn't find a problem. Well, the problem is definitely still there so today I took a video. Samsung said I would have to send it back in for more tests and that they would not watch the video. I'm afraid they're not going to find anything again so I was wondering if anyone had a similar problem and could help.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 glitch: https:// youtu.be/ 7kOFewYbNzw
That's the video, remove the spaces
Does it still happen when you use power saver mode?
When the display goes blank, you press the power button twice, once to enter sleep mode, and again to wake it up, so it looks like a loose display connection or a faulty display, does the screen ever come back on without pressing the power button.
Does the brightness level effect how often the display goes blank?
John.
Thanks for getting back to me. It does still happen on power saving as it turned that on not long after I took the video. Screen brightness I'm not sure though because I packaged it back up to return or send for repair, whichever I decide is best to do.
This happend to me 2 times in the 6 months I have the tab s, seems more like a software thing for me.
All you can do is a factory reset, then install no apps (in case they cause the fault) and see if the problem is still there, if it is, all you can do if you are still in warranty is get an replacement or repair.
John.
I've got the tablet back out of the box while I wait for my repair packaging. I did a factory reset when I got in from work and restored a backup and straight away I had to the same problem. I've now done another reset but with out restore, I haven't even logged in to my Google account. So I'm thinking it's either an app I have installed, not that there were that many or some of the factory installed apps I disabled/removed. I don't think the restore from backup reinstalled apks such as remote play and show box so they can't have been the problem. Could deleting any of the factory apps cause any problems?
You can only delete factory apps when you are rooted, any you have delete without root will make no difference to your tablet stability, try and use the stock apps and see if the error shows.
John.
I've disabled a couple of them like New York times and the office suite one. It's working faultlessly at the minute. The problem is when it came back from Samsung it was working fine for about a week and then the problem returned so I can't be sure if I've solved anything or its just a ticking time bomb.
I don't know how Samsung tests the tablets, they will just send it back if they cannot find a fault, download a couple of benchmark apps, to stress your tablet and see if the fault shows up, see if increasing the brightness while benchmarking doe anything.

Just ran Geekbench 3 adjusting brightness from lowest to full and nothing, worked fine. I'm at a loss, I know that if I send it back to Samsung they're not going to find anything and spoke to Very today, they won't refund me without Samsung authorising it.
Is that Very UK, if so they send phones and tablets for repair, if they cannot repair your phone/tablet in 30 days they give you a refund unless as you said the manufacture says to refund.
Hopefully your problem will not show again, but it could have been an downloaded app, or an update to an stock app that causes the problem only time will tell.
I suppose you are on lollipop, I decided to stay on Kitkat as it`s super stable for me.

Yeh it is, but I bought it a couple of months ago. And they've have to find the fault first.
Hello i have similiar kind of problem i mean it shows stripes and boom reboot or sometimes screen goes black.I wonder if you found any solution?
Have you done a factory data reset from the settings menu, you will loose all internal user information so backup first.
If you have done an reset and still have the problem and you are on the stock rom and have not flashed an rom and have not rooted then you have an hardware fault.

Yss i did it 2 times didnt worked.Weird thing is when i open powersave mod its not happening maybe i should use powersave mod always meh
If you are out of warranty check the battery as it sound like an bad connection or a bad battery, there are guides on youtube on how to get the cover off the tablet, you can buy a kit from the link below for $65 or cheaper on ebay for the battery and pry tool.

Marshmallow broke my phone so I...

Installed CyanogenMOD and it still resets, locks up and has other performance related issues.
I did an OTA update to Marshmallow originally. This corrupted my SD card and then caused about 10 resets a day, ranging from when I was using it lightly to heavily or even when it was sleeping/screen off. If I woke it up it would reset or I could feel it reset when it was in my pocket.
First thing I did was a factory reset. I tried other tricks such as swapping out the battery, SD card (or none at all), clearing cache, etc.... Nothing worked. So I tried installing CyanogenMOD, and I failed. But I got the phone back to BPA1. I updated back to marshmallow via my computer and the Verizon software updater.
About a day later the resets and lockups came back. I kept it light of apps but did slowly begin to reinstall some of my usuals (from the play store).
I had some more time so I tried installing Cyan again and was successful. It took a long time to load and optimize but it worked. I used gapps mini and the only step I did not follow in the guide was I did not install xposed.
It's been running for about 12 hours and has hanged, locked up and rebooted on me multiple times. Chrome even locks up (it will stop resounding, I'll get the message asking if I want to wait or close at the same time it starts responding again.)
When it reboots, it still takes forever and even optimizes apps (that I assume have already been optimized). I've seen two boot screens for it, one the little alien guy and the other with gears turning. It did the gears the second time I booted and then I haven't seen them again.
I'm not sure what my next step should be. Maybe I'll try reflashing Cyanogen. I have a feeling it's a hardware issue at this point, but I'm open to ideas. Are there any good diagnostic tools that could help my situation?
The phone is out of warranty and I'm sure that now that I've installed Cyanogen, the warranty was voided anyway. It's a shame because this phone was perfect up until the marshmallow update. I probably had 5 lockup/boots in the year or two I've had it.
Why are you using cyanogenmod in the first place. The support for that has ended. Go to the lineage os nougat thread and use that instead.

Admittedly, I did not even know about lineage until my phone was wiped with no OS. I did a quick Google search for it but could not find a Verizon note 4 mod. Now that I am not pressured to find a fix, I'll research it a bit more. Thank you.
I tried EmotionOS and NSeven, but both share the same error.
Emotion FCs random processes sporadically and then when my cell/data switches to Searching, it crashes multiple processes until the UI (trebuchet is default for Emotion?) and/or settings FCs and I have to restart. I am also stuck on 3G on that platform. I'm guessing network connectivity / switching is the root of the problems.
Nseven installed and right at the Welcome Screen where I pick my language, Google Play Services started crashing. I only had the option to click OK and then every 5 seconds after that, it kept crashing. I set up the phone, restarted and Google Play Services started crashing again. I am in the process of restoring back to Emotion, as it is the most stable platform so far.
I tried a new SIM card, hoping this was the problem but to no avail.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? I'm guessing its hardware at this point, but since it happened on an OTA Update and I can reproduce the same errors every time, I'm hoping there's still an option left for a fix.
Holy crap. As I was typing this and restoring Emotion, it fully installed and booted. I have 4G! I don't know if that will fix the FC issues, but I have regained a little hope!
I'm still getting FCs and restarts. The more I use it the more it happens, but at least with EmotionOS, It's more limited. Only about 3 or 4 a day compared to 10-20.
I'll try one more flash and I guess tough it out until my contract is up in April.
I can't help you with EmotionOS (haven't tried it yet), but if you want to stop the Google Play Services crashing in NSeven you can make your way to Settings - Applications, then select Google Play Services - Permissions and give it all permissions. It's a bit of a chore to get there when the warning pops up every five seconds, but it will stop once you do that.
So my plan is up and I'm probably switching away from Samsung after this incident. Looking into the pixel or XL. If the v20 is out for Verizon, I might get that but I'll see what looks good when I go to the store today or tomorrow.
I think I've narrowed down my issue to a heat issue. I fixed the 4g and Google play crashes but my phone still locks up or apps start a cascade of crashes. If I power down, I can't restart the phone. If I restart, it powers down but does not turn back on. I remove the battery for 10+ seconds, put it back in for 10+ seconds and it won't turn back on. I'll leave the battery out for minutes to an hour and its a crap shoot.
I can only boot normally or to download mode. TWRP no longer loads. I tried reflashing it and I get a no pit fail. I'd probably look into fixing this but at this point it's not worth it.
What I discovered works is putting the battery and phone on a cool surface, putting the battery back in and placing that on a cool surface and then try to boot up. However, neither my phone nor the battery feel warm to the touch. So that indicates to me something is either off in the sensors, preventing it from turning on or more likely it's a power issue or at least a hardware issue, preventing a constant current or something along those lines. Dips in power could explain apps crashing and the system inexplicably turning off. It would also explain why I can't turn it on easily.
It's really a shame because I liked this phone so much and if the new note was out, I might give it the benefit of the doubt. But last night my Samsung tablet decided to install the updates I've been putting off because they're the same ones that broke this phone. So timing wise, I'm done with Samsung and will try a new brand. Only issue I see with pixel is it doesn't have a removable battery so hopefully I don't run into this issue on that device!
Thanks for all the help xda. If it was a solvable problem, I'm sure I could have fixed it with your help.
Final entry.
I got the v20, and spent a day trying to get my note back to factory. I thought I was doing something wrong, but eventually flashed a kernel, recovery, bootloader and then full Rom (I think it was BPA1 but it could have been CPF3, I don't have it in front of me). I was getting error after error, no PIT partition, mmc check fail, use the Samsung Recovery Assistant, and a few others (again, it's not in front of me so I may have gotten it wrong). The big one was a write disk failure when I was trying to flash the full Rom. I fixed that by flashing kernel, bootloader, recovery, then sticking the battery and the phone on the freezer for ~5 minutes before trying to flash the full Rom.
I updated via USB after that using recovery assistant. Probably completely unnecessary, they just needed to get to the factory reset screen, but when I bought my phone, I couldn't trade in the note because i couldn't turn it on. They gave me $86 for it. Anything less and i would have considered just taking a hammer and microwave to it. Good riddance!
Still a little sad, I loved this phone right up until marshmallow dishonored and killed her.

I know a lot of people are blaming software, but I'm fairly certain that the problems in many cases are caused by failing hardware. I went through many of the same trials and tribulations with my Note 4 (except I never rooted the phone). I finally contacted Samsung Customer Support and sent the phone in for repair. They replaced a lot of the hardware including the motherboard and returned the phone in "like new" condition. I've been using it for a few weeks now and the performance is flawless.
I was planning to get either the V20 or the G6 if I wasn't able to get the phone fixed. How do you like the V20?
I'd agree that it's most likely hardware and having to put everything in the freezer for it to when confirms it for me although I have no real expertise to say so. But I'd argue that the update created the hardware issue, it was night and day with the update. It was working 100% and then directly after the update to marshmallow, it started having catastrophic issues. Oh well, it's nice not having to pull the battery every hour or so.
V20 is pretty nice. Having used EmotionOS for a few months the switch to the Nougat was pretty smooth. The xda forums for it are a little more limited but I didn't start messing with my phone until it broke and I'm hesitant to try with a new phone given my limited knowhow.
To be honest it's not a big difference in day to day usage from the note 4. Which I like!
+ I never used the finger print scanner but really like it on the v20. I didn't bother with a screen lock before but now I'm protected and have a just as quick access.
-the grip is too slick, I feel like I will drop it. The note had that rougher back which I liked better. A case or a replacement cover should fix that though.
+ I like this top menu screen, I have quick access to a few select apps or can turn the flashlight on or whatever. I'd like it more customizable, I find I switch screens too much when trying to just pull my top menu down. If I could put everything on one tab and combine their special buttons (ie the flashlight button) with apps, it would be perfect.
-the back button and menu button are switched. I can probably customize that but I don't yet know how and by the time I figure it out, I will have relearned that habit. It actually is probably a better placement for how I hold the phone but I'm a big fan of choices.
+ upgraded camera, sound, storage. I don't notice the screen size difference, but it is a lighter phone.
-bloatware
All in all its a good shift from the note 4. I'm happy to be off of Samsung and still have the same basic user experience.

I have had the exact same problem with my note 4. It wouldn't last 30 seconds at a lock screen from a cold battery before it would start boot looping, and the longer you left it in, the worse it got. Google told me I needed a new battery from several other forums and places I read. So I ordered one and replaced with a genuine Samsung one direct from them, and it didn't change anything.
I figured out it was heat related and I had it sit on an ice pack and it would run and work fine as long as the ice pack held out, about 2 hours. I've down graded, flashed, rooted the boot loader, installed a recovery console, flashed to different versions, all have the same problem. So I've kind of reserved myself to the fact it must be a hardware problem. Perhaps it was caused by the update, but nothing software change wise seems to be able to fix it. Did wake-loc fix as well. I've spent the last week with mine trying everything in the world and every evening having it on the ice pack hooked up trying whatever I could think of or read up on doing, and basically as soon as it warms up, it starts doing it again.

In my experience, it gets worse and worse. The day I bought my v20, I tried to trade it into Verizon but couldn't even turn it on in front of the rep. I thought I had timed the new phone perfectly but still wanted the $80! Fortunately I got it working after the weekend and just stuck everything in the freezer before I walked to Verizon.

Just out of curiosity, what phone did you wind up going to?
The LG v20 and so far so good!

HTC 10 Unstable, Unpredictableand crappy battery.

I am wondering if anyone has any ideas on this crazy phone.
I am experiencing some really erratic behavior and rapid battery drain. My phone will spontaneously reboot at any given moment. Usually when the battery level gets below 50% but not always, I've had it happen at 80% as well. When it reboots it will go into a boot loop and show the battery at 1%. It will boot a few times then shut off until I plug it into a charger and reboot. Then the phone will have to charge from 1% even if it was at 75% when it shut off. Sometimes if I charge it a bit, say up to 30% and then reboot, it will boot back up at 60 or 70%. No rhyme or reason.
When all this started I was running Venom rom and I hadn't updated anything for a long time. I thought maybe something was crossed up so I flashed the stock RUU and re-rooted with the intent of re-installing the current version of Venom. I flashed Venom and got everything set up again....Bam...out of the blue a reboot. This time I lost all of my settings and tweaks in Venom, it seemed like it reverted to a fresh install. I went through all of the tweaks again and set everything back up only to have it happen again.
I have tried all of the battery reset tricks i.e., deleting battery stats. Holding down both volume buttons and the power button etc. Nothing works.
I have wiped everything except the external SD card in TWRP and then again when I installed a new ROM. I have done this numerous times. The phone seems to run a little better now but it still will random reboot and show discharged. Only get about a half a day out of the battery if I'm lucky.
I am currently running the latest version of TWRP 3.2.1-0 and stock rom firmware version 2.41.605.36.
This thing is driving me nuts. I have tried pretty much I know how to do with my limited abilities. Anyone have any ideas?
Sooo....as soon as I posted this thread I found this one https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/random-shut-boot-loops-t3690547. I'm not sure how I missed it in my searches. I have some reading to do LOL.

I tried that as well. LeeDroid didn't change a thing. At this point it really seems like a hardware issue. I have an email sent to HTC to see what they have to say.
Well to be honest I was getting a crapy battery life while using the car charger or charge it more frequently, but I am using In home Aukey Q3 and in work stock, these results are captured before writing the reply
Any lint or anything else stuck in the charge port?
I think you need to do an RUU, and run your device completely stock. Are you s-on or s-off? Do you use magisk or just old school supersu for root?
You need to go back stock anyway, I'd definitely start the warranty replacement process and you'll want to be stock for that anyway so if you confirm it does it bone stock, you'll know it's a hardware issue, and you've got it ready to send back.
Just make sure HTC knows how frustrated you are to have invested in an HTC device and having a problem like this with a device that hasn't even been out that long yet. It definitely should be within the period that HTC will take care of you as a paying customer. It's a lot cheaper to keep you as an HTC customer than it is to go make a new customer to replace you.

Unfortunately my warranty expired in July so there is no point starting a replacement process. I have been on chat with 2 different HTC people. HTC will not help me....period. They will not even acknowledge that they have a problem. I sent them the link I posted above with everyone else having the same exact issue. I made it really clear to HTC that I will not buy another one of their phones. Too bad, I have had nothing but HTC since the Thunderbolt. I won't have another one.
I have wiped all partitions including the internal sd card via TWRP at least 3 times. I have flashed the lastest Verizon RUU firmware 2.41.605.36 at least 3 times (running that now). Flashed an updated version of Venom. Flashed the latest LeeDroid, complete wipes for everything. Tried holding down the power button along with both volume buttons to reset battery stats. Tried dice and chicken bones LOL. Nothing corrects the problem. I thought it got a little better but I was wrong.

Missed the first part of your post....I'm S-off. I have gone both ways with Magisk and SuperSu. Currently (and I seem to prefer) SuperSU.
Hard not to come to the conclusion that your battery is bad
I found a shop that is going to try and help me replace the battery. They were hesitant due to the possibility of breaking the screen during disassembly. I ordered a new screen to go along with the new battery. If this doesn't fix it I guess I just tossed another $100.00 bucks in the trash.

I had the exact same issue as you! A repair shop replaced my battery for 70€ and now it's working perfect again. I also tried different custom ROMs and nothing worked.
I've been having the same issues and I finally decided I've had enough. I'm going to try to revive my 10 by replacing the battery with the part here. I have a heat gun and phone repair kit already but just to be extra safe, I ordered a replacement screen/LCD assembly as well from here. I really hope I don't break my original screen because I'm not convinced this replacement is actually OEM. I don't want to risk sacrificing screen quality by having to swap my original out with a replacement. We'll see how it goes when I get all the parts in about a week and a half. Wish me luck!
Got my 10 back from a local repair shop after replacing the battery Runs like new again. Really happy the new battery fixed it back up. Pretty disappointed that HTC would do absolutely nothing to help me get the phone fixed.
