Please help! Galaxy Tab S glitch. - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I got a Tab S a couple of months ago and then about a month ago I started having some trouble with it. Lines flashing down the screen and the screen turning off. I'd have to lock and unlock to get the screen back on. Sent it to Samsung for repair and they sent it back about two weeks ago saying they couldn't find a problem. Well, the problem is definitely still there so today I took a video. Samsung said I would have to send it back in for more tests and that they would not watch the video. I'm afraid they're not going to find anything again so I was wondering if anyone had a similar problem and could help.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 glitch: https:// youtu.be/ 7kOFewYbNzw
That's the video, remove the spaces

Does it still happen when you use power saver mode?
When the display goes blank, you press the power button twice, once to enter sleep mode, and again to wake it up, so it looks like a loose display connection or a faulty display, does the screen ever come back on without pressing the power button.
Does the brightness level effect how often the display goes blank?
John.

Thanks for getting back to me. It does still happen on power saving as it turned that on not long after I took the video. Screen brightness I'm not sure though because I packaged it back up to return or send for repair, whichever I decide is best to do.

This happend to me 2 times in the 6 months I have the tab s, seems more like a software thing for me.

All you can do is a factory reset, then install no apps (in case they cause the fault) and see if the problem is still there, if it is, all you can do if you are still in warranty is get an replacement or repair.
John.

I've got the tablet back out of the box while I wait for my repair packaging. I did a factory reset when I got in from work and restored a backup and straight away I had to the same problem. I've now done another reset but with out restore, I haven't even logged in to my Google account. So I'm thinking it's either an app I have installed, not that there were that many or some of the factory installed apps I disabled/removed. I don't think the restore from backup reinstalled apks such as remote play and show box so they can't have been the problem. Could deleting any of the factory apps cause any problems?

You can only delete factory apps when you are rooted, any you have delete without root will make no difference to your tablet stability, try and use the stock apps and see if the error shows.
John.

I've disabled a couple of them like New York times and the office suite one. It's working faultlessly at the minute. The problem is when it came back from Samsung it was working fine for about a week and then the problem returned so I can't be sure if I've solved anything or its just a ticking time bomb.

I don't know how Samsung tests the tablets, they will just send it back if they cannot find a fault, download a couple of benchmark apps, to stress your tablet and see if the fault shows up, see if increasing the brightness while benchmarking doe anything.
John.

Just ran Geekbench 3 adjusting brightness from lowest to full and nothing, worked fine. I'm at a loss, I know that if I send it back to Samsung they're not going to find anything and spoke to Very today, they won't refund me without Samsung authorising it.

Is that Very UK, if so they send phones and tablets for repair, if they cannot repair your phone/tablet in 30 days they give you a refund unless as you said the manufacture says to refund.
Hopefully your problem will not show again, but it could have been an downloaded app, or an update to an stock app that causes the problem only time will tell.
I suppose you are on lollipop, I decided to stay on Kitkat as it`s super stable for me.

Yeh it is, but I bought it a couple of months ago. And they've have to find the fault first.

Hello i have similiar kind of problem i mean it shows stripes and boom reboot or sometimes screen goes black.I wonder if you found any solution?

Have you done a factory data reset from the settings menu, you will loose all internal user information so backup first.
If you have done an reset and still have the problem and you are on the stock rom and have not flashed an rom and have not rooted then you have an hardware fault.
John.

Yss i did it 2 times didnt worked.Weird thing is when i open powersave mod its not happening maybe i should use powersave mod always meh

If you are out of warranty check the battery as it sound like an bad connection or a bad battery, there are guides on youtube on how to get the cover off the tablet, you can buy a kit from the link below for $65 or cheaper on ebay for the battery and pry tool.

[Q] Brand New Note 3 problem

Hi guys, I have a weird problem and I need your advice.
My brand new galaxy Note 3 Sm-N900T is having screen blackouts....
Its like after the screen timeout the screen goes off and then when I press the power button it doesn't go back on again.
Or if I turn the screen off it doesn't go back on again... the buttons are working the sounds are on, I can answer calls and everything but the screen is black.
If I play with it (pressing power or home buttons) for a while it comes back on. Sometimes the phone restarts (rarely, I think because i press power button).
I have tried everything from playing with settings to wiping the cache and resetting the phone few times.
It looks like its a software issue to me, or maybe sensor.. but i think that when power button is pressed the screen should turn on regardless of sensors.
I do have the custom S-Case but I had the issue even before I got that.
Now.. I have few choices :
1. Go to t-Mobile and get a replacement.. probably refurbished, not a fact that the problem will away because I heard of lots of people having this issue ...
I of course do not want to do that.. I have this phone for less than a month.
2. Wait for KitKat....
3. install some kind of custom rom and see if problem goes away.
If anyone can help, Id really appreciate it.
I would do an exchange.. you paid good money for it and a defect is a defect, I wouldn't depend on a 3rd party patch for this

?
go to the store for change this defective note.
This may be jelly bean bug... Lots and lots of people report the same problem...
If I replace my piece I will probably get a refurbished one with a great chance of having this or some kind of another problem......

sucks man.
I know on my htc onei have the purple camera problem but everything else was fine. they had to send me 2 replacements because the first one had a yellow screen and worse camera then mines.
Tmobile doesnt even check there replacement. Most of the time there phones that people traded in. And all they do with those is a power on check.
Now if you just got the phone and within the 14 exchange you can take it to the store and get a brand new one.
Had it for more than 2 weeks now.. since i was always playing with it i did not notice the problem .. (the screen was always on).
I called Samsung and Tmobile. I told tmobile that samsung said i have a defective phone. so Tmobile is sending me a "Like new" phone meaning that someone returned it within 14 days. I get to check it and if i dont like it i will just send them their phone back. and suddenly mine doesnt do the problem for 30 minutes lol.. maybe it got scared. Personally i think that KitKat would fix it.
Any force closes? I had this problem too untill I stopped using the crapy My Magazine bloatware, which was also sometimes force closing...
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
No, no force closes, but one time it was funny, a little bit of status bar appeared from the bottom and on top it was a little bit cutoff.... like someone slid the screen up few pixels.
And whatever was cut just came from the bottom. Its weird... for $700 phone it should be flawless... I hope they dont send me crap phone and i hope they dont send my phone to someone else.
How can i get rid of it to see if that was the problem?
My phone works perfect and I had if since the first week they came out. .. It's not a jellybean thing you phone has a problem. ..

I figured id try to reflash (not data reset, but reflash via Kies) so far so good no problem.
The whole thing looks like soft prob, not hard.
If it comes back Ill let you know. This could be a nice fix if works.
I'm in nyc, and my local store called the warrenty center and got me a brand new SGS2 one time. It still had all the blue plastic in the sim card and sd card slots, and plastic on the screen. So I'm know they can request it, just depends on your store if they are willing.

My sgs2 had problems out of the box. After I installed custom ROM they went away. It does happen. Restored stock via Odin, still no problems. Sometimes the software doesn't flash correctly from the manufacturer.

Well, I dont know what to think anymore... Looks like the problem persists but happens so rare that without the past I wouldnt notice it.
This makes me believe that with KitKat it will probably disappear. If soft changes cause this to go away or be less it means (to me) that the phone is not defective. New phone is still on the way, to bad I did not purchase it at local store... I did it online, so there is no one to yell at.
It will arrive on Feb 6th so I have plenty of time to test my phone, with some luck KitKat will roll out during this time and then I will be able to definitely see. And if new phone is cool I have the option of exchange anyway .
Thank you all for your help, keep posting, its an interesting issue.
:/
Phone went worse and worse everyday ... now the S-Pen "Air Command" doesnt pop up, several weird disfunctions...
Waiting for the replacement.

p600 wifi turning off on of on off on....

Ok this started last night, tablet has been working flawlessly for the last 6 months or more.
What happened was, I wasn't able to use the Internet. Just wasn't working. And every 20 seconds or so it would flash up at the bottom of the screen "connected to (my router)".
So I turned wifi off and on, which usually fixed connection issues, but didn't help. I also restarted router, even though my computer and my phone isn't having any issues.
So then I went to the wifi settings screen to see if there was any way to reset networks. What I saw was this:
If i turn wifi toggle on and watch the screen, it would scan for networks, find the list... Couple seconds pass... Then the toggle would switch itself off and back on! And then it would start looking and finding networks again, and then off and on, and etc etc.
I have tried a factory reset and cache reset.
I have also downloaded the 4.4.2 stock rom and installed using odin for a totally new install.
Still does it.
Any suggestions? Seems very strange. It's under warranty but it seems like an odd hardware fault, seems more like software but I dunno.
Help me xda, you're my only hope.
I've been searching the Internet all day trying to find someone else havin this problem... But I seem to be the only one. And noone seems to have any suggestions.
At the moment I'm having to consider a warranty dispute, but that means however many days/weeks without the tablet which I use on a daily basis.
Not ideal Samsung.

Hey. I had the EXACT same problem. Even made a video of it and showed it to the service point personell. Turning on off on again and again, it also displays in the settings the switch just switches itself without any action of mine. It was a hardware defect. send it in and get a new one, better than being annoyed by it. Mine did it on a 5-10sec interval length...

Yeh mines probably every 5-10 seconds...
So this is definitly a hardware fault? In which case I'll have to get in touch with john lewis and hope they will do an exchange in store. If it involves having to send it off to samsung and waiting for it..
Anyway thanks for replying to the question, shame it wasn't better news haha!

yeah sorry to be the one to tell you this is a faulty device but it seems like this unit ain't free of errors and there quality control is somewhat sketchy.
Which android version are you running? I am asking because I run kitkat and also have relatively ****ty battery life. I use it for university so I have the screen on and write notes during lectures. Usually it lasted 7-8hours but for about a week or two it now only lasts 4-5 hours of screen time which is really ****ty.
I read somewhere that this might be a motherboard issue and if it is it might be somewhat corellated to our wifi problem. In my case they replaced the wifi module and gave me back my "old" device but this is having bad battery life so I am thinking about sending it in (again). I did however root so I would have to make use of the warranty provided by the seller, not samsung itself, since my knox is tripped.
(in Germany the sellers also must provide 6months - 2 years of warranty and there was a judgement in Europe that rooting must not have any influence on wether your device still is under warranty or not. sadly this only applies to the warranty provided by the seller, not the manufacturer)
Is your BT on and are you connected to a 2.4 GHZ network?
If so, turn off BT
I get random WiFi disconnects and reconnects from 2.4 GHZ networks when BT is on but not connected. Though, Ive never noticed the wifi switch going off and on.
I am running 4.4.2 or whatever, kitkat anyway.
Bluetooth is off, I never use it on my tablet. I dunno what network type I'm running, might be N or might be B/G, but whatever it is it what it has been for months as I havent changed any router settings lately.
I have restarted the router twice already in case this was a network problem, but the network wouldn't cause the wifi to toggle off and on, it would just cause disconnects etc. Least I assume so. I may try this just in case but like I said the network type hasn't changed lately
John Lewis are saying they won't exchange it, it will have to be sent off to Samsung for "repair". Meaning I'll probably get sent back a refurbished second hand one with a dodgy light bleed screen, as I expect they have hundreds of those lying around now.
Oh and it'll be up to 28 days. For a premium and expensive device that's less than 6 months old this just isn't good enough.

I had mine replaced as well but dont remember wether I got a new one or just my old one repaired... should have written down the IMEI I guess :-/
you're from Bristol, don't the EU rights apply there? If so your retailer should be obliged to replace or repair the device.

Anyways my replacement was done through Samsung and it took 6 days. But then again idk differences between UK and Germany...

Screen response laggy

Hey guys,
My note 4 unfortunately died on me last Friday. Yesterday I received a insurance replacement. I believe it was pretty smooth in stock but once I got home and flashed the rom I had on the other Note 4, lag fest. I have flashed different roms 7 times already since last night. I am currently getting ready to flash stock lollipop. Problem is, when you swipe or scroll through screens or menus, even when typing, the lag has become unbearable. Is it possible I'm wasting my time and this refurb is defective? Can't believe I'm going to have to go back to sprint and go through this again, assuming they see it my way.
Is there something I'm not checking?
Rey
Well after insisting they did order another replacement. The "techs" there claim the phone is fine but it's not. Aside from the terrible lag, it's a battery hog and I mean I get half the batter life with this POS. Bluetooth is choppy and WIFI never connects automatically. I have to input passwords every time. But no, there's nothing wrong with this refurb. No roms and no amount of resets make the slightest of a difference.
One of the employees there says to me that all phones lag and maybe my expectations were too high. He then asks what was my previous phone. It was a Note 4 :silly:

....idiots. Hope the next one works for you. I just got a refurb also and it seems ok. Touchwiz lags a little on the home screen but after clearing cache it speeds back up.
For some reason this morning for the first time the phone was functioning properly for the most part. Decided to pull the battery and reboot and it's back to it's usual ways. Tomorrow I get the replacement but I wonder if a defective battery could cause these issues?
Try removing the SD card and reboot. This is a known issue with some cards making the phone wonky.

It's a refurb but in great condition. I was surprised to see the bezel scratch-less since it can happen so easily on the beveled edge.
Sure makes work easier with a properly working Note 4. What a great phone!

You received a refurb and it had scratches? I would have flipped my wig and called Asurion real quick. I would have asked for a new phone since your history with refurbs was bad.
I actually starting having problems with my recent received refurbished Note 4. It started after I went to the gym, I put the phone on Airplane mode so I wouldn't be flooded with Facebook notifications and when I turned Airplane mode off the LTE star just kept spinning and wouldn't load any app it just sat there. I rebooted my phone cuz I got tired of it and when it came back Touchwiz home randomly force closed. Then a few hours later I noticed when charging the phone with the fast charger the keyboard and touchwiz lagged pretty bad, but only if I had it charging. Have you seen this lag issue before on your previous refurbished phones? If it keeps up I will be calling Asurion.

The phone came factory reset, I HATE doing that all my dang apps get erased and have to start over. If it happens again later I will call and just say Yeah I already factory reset it and still has problems. When your battery gets low later can you charge the battery and surf the web and use the keyboard and see if it lags? I wonder if its just the new Fast charge technology thats making it lag when the screen is on.

Thanks, I checked the forums and couldn't find anyone else complaining about it.
I called Asurion and told them the issues I'm having and they told me I have to take it to a Sprint store and they may fix it or if its unrepairable they will replace it. When I had a claim thru Asurion before it was all thru them not Sprint, I'm assuming this has changed?
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but if you use Odin and reflash the stock. tar it won't wipe your data/apps. Worth a try.. That's probably what the Sprint store will do.

Another attempt to bring Note 4 Back to life (ATT - Unlocked after contract was over)

So experts,
Currently I am on S7 but I do miss my Note 4.
After Marshmallow update it started lagging, shutting off etc.. all known problems. To fix it I downloaded wake lock app and it worked fine but drained battery a lot.
I tried to flash it through odin etc... (not a technical guy I am, followed instruction from one of the threads on this forum).. took all the files on SD Card and after that phone never turned on.
It does not charge, no LED lights when plugged in, none of the buttons are responsive. I have tried everything like new charger, usb cable, PC, new batteries etc...
1) Do you guys think It's hardware problem?
If No then,
2) Is it possible to fix it and how?
Please note: Phone does not turn on or recognized by PC. If it is just software problem then I am determined to fix it. I may need instruction for even very simple steps.
Thanks in advance to all!
Bump....
Anyone?
Sounds VERY similar to the problems I and others have had with hardware. I sent mine into repair, and for a flat $74 fee, Samsung reported errors with the charging circuit, main board, camera, etc. They replaced darn near everything on that phone, all for $74... Well worth it, in my estimation. Phone still performs better than today's $400 phones... Call samsung and they'll set you up. Had the phone back in under 10 days.

Oh ok. I better do that if it is getting resolved in $74. For some reason I am not able to adjust to Galaxy s7, been on it for 6 months now I guess.
I switched to cricket several months back, and have had relatively few issues until I downloaded an ad blocker. then I started having the freezing rebooting stuttering ect.
I tried to do a factory reset, and It got into a boot loop. Somehow I managed to get it booted properly clearing the cache.
I don't know why But it is almost like I somehow got new features after wiping. With s note, and a popup hitting the home button.
However
the freezing and reboot issues are still occurring. I had none of this till I downloaded the ad blocker.
Its currently on 6.0.1 baseband n910aucs2epk2 kernel 3.10.40-8932341 Build no mmb29m.n910aucs2epk2
can I try reinstalling the update, I haven't had one since switching to cricket. I assume I would have to instal it through sd card.
And When the second poster said to contact samsung for repair. Will they fix it if you aren't the original owner?
And specifically who am I looking to contact within samsung?
thanks

Don't know all the answers but I did contact Samsung. They have walk - in centers, just google it, contact the one which is near to you. You can either ship the phone to them or just walk in. I have not confirmed about the cost of repair yet!

And specifically who am I looking to contact within samsung?
thanks

Had word with Samsung repair and they said the max they charge is $199. Anything more than that is beyond economical value so they don't suggest to do it. visitng them this Saturday. Will update.

I visited Samsung walk in center today. In my case they refused to repair it saying that the issue is Motherboard (without even checking, but he seemed vary confident) and the repair cost is more than the price of new phone as of now. I tried to convince him to check at least. Disappointed I am, honestly! but this visit was like final nail in the coffin.
How did you convince them to do it all for just $74?
Call Samsung customer service, they've been great to me.

Samsung did fix it for $70. Phone looks fresh and new now! Great service. Thanks for your suggestion!!
Now I am confused between s7 and note 4. S7 has good features like finger print (very accurate) and samsung pay (brilliant) which is missing from Note4. But I may still switch to Note 4.

Question *Urgent Help* Bricked Pixel 6 Pro

I'm kinda screwed here and I really really need some help.
So I basically rooted my Pixel 6 Pro just out of boredom and wanted to tweak some stuff with the rooted version. In the end, I decided that it wasn't worth rooting as most things i can do i could already do on stock like customization and other things. Anyway long story short I've tried to Use the google flash recovery tool I wasn't looking where i was clicking and ended up flashing 12 by accident It *Was on 13 at the time* had it got near to the end but it kept booting me to this one section called "fastbootd" I hit factory reset and from there it done the reset and now the phone no longer starts or doesn't even displays the charging percentage.
I've plugged it into a computer nothing pops up no noise from my computer to say it has connected.
I've also tried to use power + down for 30 seconds - didn't do nothing.
Has anyone got out of this issue? Is this a Hard Brick?
I've plugged it into a charger and will see what happens tomorrow. I genuinely think its the battery has fully drained.
Cause I've ran out of ideas to try things and I need your expertise on this guys.
Your help will really be appreciated.

I assume you didn't flash, at the minimum , the A13 bootloader to both slots or sideload the OTA after updating to A13 before doing this? If not, sounds like your device may have reverted to the A12 slot and ended up a brick due to the new ARB/eFuse shenanigans. The symptoms you describe are what happens when this occurs.
Luckily, it sounds like Google has been good at replacing devices that have encountered this so I would RMA it.

Ahhh I'm from the UK. I only got the phone just a month ago too and now this has happened. I checked on the their Uk site i can take it to a local mobile carrier and they've stated that they will do the repair next day. I might just do that tomorrow if not then I'll speak to Google.

Some News for everyone!
So I spoke to Google and they was fine about it phone not working went through some troubleshooting tricks neither of the options worked. The rep on the phone gave me two options Send it into Google for a repair and they'll send me over a replacement 6 Pro whilst its being worked on. If they can't fix it they'll let me keep the phone but if all is well with the phone then I'll need to return it back otherwise I'll get charged for it.
The second option is sending it in for a repair at a local authorized repair center. Luckily there is one 10-15 minutes away from me but the annoying thing is all bookings are available during my working hours but the place has 5* reviews and can get the phone repaired within the same day.
So I might just go for my second option tbh seems alot more convenient and less hassle of having to send a phone away to Google and wait 10 days for a repair which can be done within a day by a repair center that is less than 10 mins away from me and has all parts available to hand out.
Btw the repair center near me is called Ismash. There's one nearby me in London.
Awesome news! There are at least a handful of other users who have reported getting bricked since Android 13 came out August 15th, and I believe all of them reported good news from Google for repairs, but I don't have any idea if any of them were in the UK, so glad it's going to work out there too.

Great to hear! If you end up taking it to the repair shop, please let us know what repairs they did (I'm guessing replacing the motherboard) and what they said was wrong with it (e.g. If it was an eFuse problem). Thanks and good luck!

i am also very curious if it actually needs a motherplace replacement or simply a reflash using a JTAG (or similar specialized tool) to get it out of the bricked state.

My 6 pro did this last weekend, when I was rooted I decided to flash a file to change the font and I missed the part it would work on 13 as long I deleted a certain file for the lock screen, it boot looped a few times, apparently it tried to load from slot B where android 12 was still flashed, and it hard bricked, no button combo would work, completely bricked, it was fully charged when this happen, so I RMA`d with google and my old device is suppsoed to be delivered to Texas today, then hopefully tomorrow my if I`m lucky that my replacement gets shipped.

Great. If you try again to be on the safe side, download this app and install font manager
GitHub - Fox2Code/FoxMagiskModuleManager: A module manager for Magisk because the official app dropped support for it
A module manager for Magisk because the official app dropped support for it - GitHub - Fox2Code/FoxMagiskModuleManager: A module manager for Magisk because the official app dropped support for it

Just use termux and type
Code:
su -c manage_fonts
Tbh I'm not 100% it works on A13, but I tried it on the a13 beta and it worked.

I can almost 100% guarantee that they fix it through the USB port. When its going into the bricked mode, it is no doubt going into a special recovery mode that isn't documented publicly.
