p600 wifi turning off on of on off on.... - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Ok this started last night, tablet has been working flawlessly for the last 6 months or more.
What happened was, I wasn't able to use the Internet. Just wasn't working. And every 20 seconds or so it would flash up at the bottom of the screen "connected to (my router)".
So I turned wifi off and on, which usually fixed connection issues, but didn't help. I also restarted router, even though my computer and my phone isn't having any issues.
So then I went to the wifi settings screen to see if there was any way to reset networks. What I saw was this:
If i turn wifi toggle on and watch the screen, it would scan for networks, find the list... Couple seconds pass... Then the toggle would switch itself off and back on! And then it would start looking and finding networks again, and then off and on, and etc etc.
I have tried a factory reset and cache reset.
I have also downloaded the 4.4.2 stock rom and installed using odin for a totally new install.
Still does it.
Any suggestions? Seems very strange. It's under warranty but it seems like an odd hardware fault, seems more like software but I dunno.
Help me xda, you're my only hope.

I've been searching the Internet all day trying to find someone else havin this problem... But I seem to be the only one. And noone seems to have any suggestions.
At the moment I'm having to consider a warranty dispute, but that means however many days/weeks without the tablet which I use on a daily basis.
Not ideal Samsung.

Hey. I had the EXACT same problem. Even made a video of it and showed it to the service point personell. Turning on off on again and again, it also displays in the settings the switch just switches itself without any action of mine. It was a hardware defect. send it in and get a new one, better than being annoyed by it. Mine did it on a 5-10sec interval length...

Yeh mines probably every 5-10 seconds...
So this is definitly a hardware fault? In which case I'll have to get in touch with john lewis and hope they will do an exchange in store. If it involves having to send it off to samsung and waiting for it..
Anyway thanks for replying to the question, shame it wasn't better news haha!

yeah sorry to be the one to tell you this is a faulty device but it seems like this unit ain't free of errors and there quality control is somewhat sketchy.
Which android version are you running? I am asking because I run kitkat and also have relatively ****ty battery life. I use it for university so I have the screen on and write notes during lectures. Usually it lasted 7-8hours but for about a week or two it now only lasts 4-5 hours of screen time which is really ****ty.
I read somewhere that this might be a motherboard issue and if it is it might be somewhat corellated to our wifi problem. In my case they replaced the wifi module and gave me back my "old" device but this is having bad battery life so I am thinking about sending it in (again). I did however root so I would have to make use of the warranty provided by the seller, not samsung itself, since my knox is tripped.
(in Germany the sellers also must provide 6months - 2 years of warranty and there was a judgement in Europe that rooting must not have any influence on wether your device still is under warranty or not. sadly this only applies to the warranty provided by the seller, not the manufacturer)

Is your BT on and are you connected to a 2.4 GHZ network?
If so, turn off BT
I get random WiFi disconnects and reconnects from 2.4 GHZ networks when BT is on but not connected. Though, Ive never noticed the wifi switch going off and on.

I am running 4.4.2 or whatever, kitkat anyway.
Bluetooth is off, I never use it on my tablet. I dunno what network type I'm running, might be N or might be B/G, but whatever it is it what it has been for months as I havent changed any router settings lately.
I have restarted the router twice already in case this was a network problem, but the network wouldn't cause the wifi to toggle off and on, it would just cause disconnects etc. Least I assume so. I may try this just in case but like I said the network type hasn't changed lately

John Lewis are saying they won't exchange it, it will have to be sent off to Samsung for "repair". Meaning I'll probably get sent back a refurbished second hand one with a dodgy light bleed screen, as I expect they have hundreds of those lying around now.
Oh and it'll be up to 28 days. For a premium and expensive device that's less than 6 months old this just isn't good enough.

I had mine replaced as well but dont remember wether I got a new one or just my old one repaired... should have written down the IMEI I guess :-/
you're from Bristol, don't the EU rights apply there? If so your retailer should be obliged to replace or repair the device.

Anyways my replacement was done through Samsung and it took 6 days. But then again idk differences between UK and Germany...

What do i do now that HTC has screwed me over?

Just to give you a brief rundown of everything that's happened..
I'm 17 and saved up for a few months to buy a HTC One X. Needless to say, it's probably the most expensive phone i've ever owned, since all my other phones were hand-me-downs and old phones from eBay.
This morning i wake up and go to work as usual. Just to find my phone's display won't switch on. As you can imagine, I'm tirelessly panicking and try the 3 button combo.. to no avail.
Using Fastboot to reboot didn't work either.
This phone turned into a brick overnight, and i have no idea what happened??
Just before i left for work, i did check my phone and it was working alright.. Then five minutes later, it won't display anything.
The thing is, I can't take it back to HTC either because this is my 5th replacement phone!
First one had black glue smudged on the LCD it's self,
Second one had the screen not glued down and wasn't aligned,
Third one didn't even have any glue applied and the case wasn't even attached properly,
Forth one had this problem where the screen's LCD would dilate if i touched it - even lightly,
and this one is my 5th, the antenna wasn't properly connected and now the screen doesn't work.
I've had terrible luck, and i don't know what i can do?
If you can give me any information to get me out of this, it would be much appreciated.
Although i still can receive text's and calls fine, it's just the display..
Since you’re unlocked and running a non-stock kernel and ROM, maybe some of the dev-ish folks can help you resuscitate it if it’s indeed a s/w problem.
If it’s a h/w problem, what to do depends on where you bought the phone and how old it is. If it’s within the remorse/DOA period maybe you can exchange it. It’ll be hard for whoever you bought it from to see you’ve unlocked it if nothing’s showing on the display.
If it’s outside of the exchange period you’ll have to send it in for repair. If you can’t bring it back to life to flash it back to stock you’ll have to throw yourself on the mercy of HTC Asia in getting it fixed unlocked. HTC's different repair centers seem to all have different policies related to warranty coverage for h/w faults on unlocked phones. If it is a dead display maybe you’ll get lucky.
You might want to put a note in with it telling your “I’m 17” story and how devastated you are something you’ve worked so hard for has failed. Repair techs are people too. Good luck.

I shook the device out of frustration.. and it started working for a few seconds.
What's going on here? Is it a faulty display/connection? Is there a way to possibly just send it to a nearby phone shop and get it fixed?
Sorry about all the questions, I'm shocked, happy, and devastated all at the same time.
Are HTC refusing then? That seems a bit off/ illegal... Surely under the faulty goods act (I assume the law isn't THAT different in Australia to UK) they have to take it back as it CAN'T be a year old and they can't prove the issue was caused by your mistreatment. It doesn't matter how many phones you've had... Also, where did you buy the phone from? I think you should be able to return it through the shop as THEY sold you the phone, not HTC... They are still under an obligation as they sold you the thing.
Plus, the 'I'm a 17 year old and saved up for ages thing' might work too! I'd try not to get too technical with the law if you go down this route though!
Best of luck sorting this out. It's within your rights to get a replacement (you bought the phone new, I assume?) so I'm sure this will eventually work out. Don't give up! You just need to speak/ write to the right person...

What rom were you on?
I remember my One X not charging at all while it was turned off completely although it showed Orange charging led.
It could be that you ran out of battery and phone not turning on. Due to no charging effect.
@Op,
Reading your story there's one thing that's crossing my mind.
Could it be possible the battery run dry during the night?
It sounds stupid but those things you forget easy when you're in a hurry or stressed.
I don't read anything in your post you tried to charge.

Yes. But not in every region (yet). Do a search. It's been disucssed. Also, it appears Samsung's going down the same path.

Aware of the discussion... Using the xda app and didn't pick up that the phone's been 'HTCdev'd (my fault for not reading properly - sorry, folks!). Still not sure HTC/ Samsung can legally 'sign your rights away' though. Still, not a discussion for here...
Hope you got the phone sorted anyway.

How or who fixed ur antenna problem, could be related if handset wasnt but back together properly.

WiFi and Bluetooth stuck at turning on.

For the past two days I have been having issues where my wifi and Bluetooth wont turn on. The problem started after rooting. I unrooted and returned the device to normal status and no binary downloads but eh problem persists. right now both will turn on and off fine but every once in a while they get stuck at turning on. after a few resets and simply waiting everything goes back to normal but this has happened at least 5 times since yesterday. On my s2 I had a similar issues with GPS. the only solution was to do a factory exchange. I am already set up and the replacement will be sent once the phone is back in stock. I was just curious if anyone had a similar problem and resolved it without having to exchange the phone.

I haven't had any problems today but I know as soon as I loaf all my apps back it will happen again. To be on the safe side I am just going to return it before it gets worse.
I'm having the same problem. Did you go through T-Mobile or Samsung for your replacement?
Went through tmobile. It's been good for more than 24 hours but I don't trust that it won't come back. Then phone is back ordered original would have had the new one by now.
Yeah, it actually started working for about a day, but stopped working when I left the house. Just went to T-Mobile to process the exchange, but they're telling me they can't do it due to the IMEI stating it not being "sold" through a T-Mobile store. Which is odd, because I bought it at a T-Mobile store at full upgrade price while my roommate was working. I have the invoice somewhere here...
Time to jump through hoops to get this replacement.

I noticed it usually gets stuck when I leave the house as well. Do you use airplane mode a lot? when I am home I usually keep my phone in airplane mode with Bt and wifi on. the first time this happened I also noticed the wifi looked as if it was connected when i was a mile from home and i had to power down to get a cellular signal. I have had the phone since day one and this just started last week after I rooted. Since many people have rooted and this isn't a known issue I guess its best for us to return the phone and see what happens with the next. Find your invoice and they have no choice to replace it. If you paid by credit card that should work as well. Just show them your statement.

I don't use airplane mode at all. T-Mobile gave me the run around so I decided to go through Samsung for my replacement. They originally wanted me to send my phone in for repair, but no way am I going to be without the Note for more than a day.
A Samsung Experience Shop popped up in Best Buy just outside of Chicago. The woman running it wasn't a Best Buy employee, but a Samsung Specialist. She troubleshooted my phone (Factory reset it, even though I told her I already did) and Wifi and Bluetooth didn't work at all. She called her contact at Samsung and they're having a replacement sent to the store that I'll pick up when it comes in and exchange. Good news is that I don't have to send in my Note and have to wait on it!
I haven't had a problem in two days but my replacement is on the way so I will just wait and see if it happens on my new one
OP, I had the exact same issue as you. Wifi and Bluetooth just stopped turning on, intermittently at first. After trying to figure it out for a month or so I decided it must be a hardware issue. Wifi and Bluetooth are controlled by the same integrated Broadcom chip, which might be a common failure point.
I sent it in to Samsung, and they have had it for 2 weeks now... I just got word that it's fixed and shipping back to me. They replaced the PBA (main board).
I have a question. How did you get service through T-Mobile? I bought mine at a T-Mobile store and I was outside of the 30 day return policy. I was under the impression I had to go through Samsung for a defect, or T-Mobile for an insurance claim (pay deductible).

I just called tmobile and they sent me a new one. I had a problem with my black berry a few weeks ago and thought i had to send it in for repair but tmboile sent me a new BB as well. usually most phones have a year factory warranty and tmobile is the one that handles that. My phone hasn't acted up in a few days but i am going to keep the replacement and send my old one back just to be on the safe side.
Anybody with a solution for this? Mine started acting up 2 days ago and I'm now a grumpy man.
Are you on custom Rom, and which Rom is it if you are
Possible fix: Odin to stock(sure way to check, or redownload Rom and wipe three times and reflash Rom

I'm now in Malaysia for another 3 months and a half. Won't be able to find any T-Mobile here. Any suggestion?
if you are on stock already, then it possibly is hardware
My problem started after I rooted using toolkit. I unrooted and rooted using stock injected but the problem persisted. I had to return the phone so I unrooted and used triangle away to get my phone back to normal. I did a hard reset and had the problem one more time. for the 5 days it took my new phone to arrive i didn't have the problem more than once. I also remember having a problem with my printer saying it was connected but i couldn't print from it until i reset the router. I think the time my phone started working find again was when I reset my router but i didn't put all this together until recently. I noticed that the only time I had the problem was when I had wifi and BT connected and went into airplane mode. then when I came out it didn't always connect back like it use to. I also noticed it when i had wifi connected and left my house. the wifi looked like it was still connected even though i was more than a mile form home. So maybe it had to do with my router connection and a bug where the phone thought it was still connected. if anyone is having this problem try resetting your router and see if the issues persists.

I used the toolkit in the original development thread, could it be the method you used for rooting caused that?
Is the problem there if you connect to Wi-Fi on a different router, like someone else's

I never tried connecting to another router. My problem seemed to be that it never properly disconnected from my router so when I came out of airplane mode of couldn't connect. Also bluetooth was stuck.

Random rebooting?

My White Note 4 has been randomly rebooting, maybe once every couple days, for the last couple weeks. It gives no indication that it is about to do it (lagging up, freezing ect) it just literally goes black and reboots. It doesn't matter if what I'm doing either btw, has happened while internet browsing, using facebook, checking email and so on.
Anyone else having this issue?
I also noticed that my battery life isn't nearly as good as my wifes white note 4 even though we have the same setting on/off ect.
Do I have a bad unit? If so, will Verizon replace it? How would I go about getting them to replace the phone?
It's starting to get pretty annoying.
Thanks
Call ? up verizon tech support tell them the problems your having they more then likely will run ? some diagnostics and if they cant find the problem they will send you out another device more then likely refurbished just the unit no battery no back door etc ..but ive sent through the same thing with my note 3 and the refurbished unit worked better then my original one its worth a shot

yeah, there may even be some advantage to a refurbished/certified like new device. They actually check these devices individually to assure they function as they should. Granted, the issue you're expereincing wouldn't likely be picked up in their short test.
I have not experienced the issues you mentioned, OP.

Super weird signal / wifi problem

Hi guys,
I bought my Mi 9SE some months ago. Everything was good, but since like two months ago my phone signal dropped to 0. The phone was unable to connect, and it wasn't a problem of APN or SIM because i tried another SIMs and the problem persists. Suddendly, one day the signal started to work again a few hours, and then go off again. Sometimes it works for days, even a week, and then drop to 0 again hours or days. But after that, Wifi started to malfunction too, like it was forcibly disabled. I can't start wifi, and if i try the phone freezes a few seconds.
The weird thing is that those two problems happens like randomly: for example, if i keep the phone on standby for a few hours, wifi start to work again, but if i use it again, it fails again after some use. Same goes to phone signal, some days it works and the suddendly stop functionaning.
I sended to Xiaomi already and they send it back to me because they coulnd't find a problem (Because the problem just happens randomly i suppose).
I don't know what to do, so i'm thinking on unlock bootloader and install a rom. What do you think? I will put here two videos of my phone that shows the problem:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1gY8FqJWV_RwDR2u-KQHYU-pHt2d6yEXa
Thanks.
Hi,
I would suggest to try a different ROM. The wifi issue you have (saw the video) is generally related to wifi drivers. Now i can't say why your driver is malfunctioning without logs, especially for a stock ROM...
Good luck!
@ch4mi: wouldn't do so, because it seems to be a hardware problem and with unlocked BL you open an escape door denying service. Maybe it's caused by an antenna loosing connection by temperature. So switch it off overnight for a definite begin state, boot and look, whether the bug occurs after a certain time. Repeat it 2times. Then send it back to service with this information.
Thanks for your replys people!
I don't know if i can trust with Xiaomi Service. I already sended it like i said, and they said to me that the phone was perfect, and charged me 25€ for shipping costs... I writted to them again saying that the phone was still malfunctionating, but the only said to me that they will proceed like always, check phone and if they don't find any issue, i will pay again 25€ for shipping costs... That's why i'm thinking of change ROM.
@ch4mi: the shipping costs are mean indeed. I hoped they would be willing to repair - then such a clue would have been usefull.
Ok guys, i will send it to the Xiaomi service again, with some videos proving the issues. Thanks for your tips!

General Well my Pixel 6 Pro died after 2 weeks

I woke up Sunday to essentially a brick, Saturday I went to sleep, plugged the phone in as normal and didnt think anything else about it. I woke up Sunday however and my phone would not get a wireless connection, Bluetooth was dead and the cellular connection constantly came and went.
I assumed maybe it got a software update or something else that killed it so I initially did a factory reset which did not fix it. The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth mac address showed up as "unavailable". I proceeded to use Googles flash tool through chrome and reflash the device which again did not fix it. The last hailmary was a fastboot flash of the firmware which again did not fix it. To me it looks like the modem just completely took a ****.
One thing leading up to this I noticed was my cellular connection would occasionally stop working with a exclamation symbol, my Wi-Fi would occasionally stop working as well but always came back. I chopped that up to software issues or something else as it was never a big problem. If this happens be cognitive that its very possible that modem is dying.
I have submitted an RMA with advanced replacement as the 3rd party partner does not have any parts inventory yet. Hopefully this is just a fluke and not a larger issue.
Oh my....I'm really sorry to hear this - I hope it's not a common issue either. Good luck on your RMA - make sure they send you a brand new one, and not refurbished (unless it doesn't bother you).

Damn, man. I feel sorry for you. Hopefully you get a replacement device rather quickly.
Just for curiositie’s sake
- did you bootloader unlock/ root and modify anything?
- in what kind of climate do you live? High humidity? Hot outside? Ever left your phone baking in the sun?
- Or maybe the opposite? Very cold? You used the phone outside a lot? Maybe it's a hardware design problem.
- Did you ever drop it? Maybe it's just the physical connector from the connectivity module to the motherboard that is lose, might be a design problem and could happen to anyone.

Not unlocked, its been in a case 100% of the time since I have had it and hasn't really been "dropped" on anything other than my bed. I'm in SC/USA so its not exactly the hottest or coldest of environments so pretty average same for humidity.

It better be new, I paid for the advance replacement (hold on card) until I send the other in. It should be here tomorrow.
That sucks. Hope it all goes smoothly

Bummer, but they owe you a new one and then some!
Are you extensively on 5G? Or use GPS navigation apps while driving around in the hot sun?
Since the Samsung 5G modem isn't on the 5nm SOC die maybe it has less tolerance to heat.

Almost 100% on 5G/Wifi and use GPS daily with AA and insurance tracking. If the phone cant handle normal use that would be a hardware flaw. It looks like a few of these have been reported on Reddit as well so hopefully the new one does not exhibit the same behavior in a few weeks.

Big uff, that does sound like a hardware flaw. I have no 5G in my area, so I'm not too happy to find a dead device couple month later down the road, when doing holiday or so
What is "normal" 5G/GPS daily use for you? How long is the phone running nonstop? Can you give us a number? Did you ever check how hot it got? According to your statement, you seem to use it as navigation - where have you placed your phone? Did the sun shine on it constantly, or was it down below the windshield where your fitting/instruments/buttons reside? Can you give us an ambient temperature of your area when you used the device?
According to many reports, the phone is already getting quite toasty when doing 5G+Navigation, so maybe a couple hours straight sunshine & that toastiness were just a tad to overkill for it's hardware.
And jea I totally agree, a device dying in 2 weeks because you used it, even extensively, is unacceptable. Maybe if you drive it nonstop with full 5G/GPS madness it is allowed to die after a year, but certainly not in less than a month.

Normal for me is to work in the morning and home in the afternoon roughly 30-35 mins drive with the phone plugged in sitting either in the cupholder or cubby so never really in direct sunlight. I never really noticed it hot to any extent and I don't game on it either so. What I mean as non stop is its constantly on wifi or 5g as we are plastered in this area.
I can say in the morning it felt a little warm when it did die but it wasn't anything completely abnormal. It felt roughly as it would charging.

Well it doesn't sound like any sort of extreme use case, so the phone definitely mustn't die in that scenario.
Just to gauge the customer care response times, have they given you an ETA?

45 mins or so waiting in chat, they shot an email over to me pretty quick but still no shipment notification. It is supposed to be landed tomorrow or the 17th.
Do let us know if the one you receive is brand new or refurbished since the thread below discusses Google replacing brand new with refurbished units

I did advance replacement which means they are shipping a new phone. If had sent it in I am sure they could have easily done that but we shall see.
