Hi guys, I have a weird problem and I need your advice.
My brand new galaxy Note 3 Sm-N900T is having screen blackouts....
Its like after the screen timeout the screen goes off and then when I press the power button it doesn't go back on again.
Or if I turn the screen off it doesn't go back on again... the buttons are working the sounds are on, I can answer calls and everything but the screen is black.
If I play with it (pressing power or home buttons) for a while it comes back on. Sometimes the phone restarts (rarely, I think because i press power button).
I have tried everything from playing with settings to wiping the cache and resetting the phone few times.
It looks like its a software issue to me, or maybe sensor.. but i think that when power button is pressed the screen should turn on regardless of sensors.
I do have the custom S-Case but I had the issue even before I got that.
Now.. I have few choices :
1. Go to t-Mobile and get a replacement.. probably refurbished, not a fact that the problem will away because I heard of lots of people having this issue ...
I of course do not want to do that.. I have this phone for less than a month.
2. Wait for KitKat....
3. install some kind of custom rom and see if problem goes away.
If anyone can help, Id really appreciate it.
I would do an exchange.. you paid good money for it and a defect is a defect, I wouldn't depend on a 3rd party patch for this

go to the store for change this defective note.
This may be jelly bean bug... Lots and lots of people report the same problem...
If I replace my piece I will probably get a refurbished one with a great chance of having this or some kind of another problem......

sucks man.
I know on my htc onei have the purple camera problem but everything else was fine. they had to send me 2 replacements because the first one had a yellow screen and worse camera then mines.
Tmobile doesnt even check there replacement. Most of the time there phones that people traded in. And all they do with those is a power on check.
Now if you just got the phone and within the 14 exchange you can take it to the store and get a brand new one.
Had it for more than 2 weeks now.. since i was always playing with it i did not notice the problem .. (the screen was always on).
I called Samsung and Tmobile. I told tmobile that samsung said i have a defective phone. so Tmobile is sending me a "Like new" phone meaning that someone returned it within 14 days. I get to check it and if i dont like it i will just send them their phone back. and suddenly mine doesnt do the problem for 30 minutes lol.. maybe it got scared. Personally i think that KitKat would fix it.
Any force closes? I had this problem too untill I stopped using the crapy My Magazine bloatware, which was also sometimes force closing...
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
No, no force closes, but one time it was funny, a little bit of status bar appeared from the bottom and on top it was a little bit cutoff.... like someone slid the screen up few pixels.
And whatever was cut just came from the bottom. Its weird... for $700 phone it should be flawless... I hope they dont send me crap phone and i hope they dont send my phone to someone else.
How can i get rid of it to see if that was the problem?
My phone works perfect and I had if since the first week they came out. .. It's not a jellybean thing you phone has a problem. ..

I figured id try to reflash (not data reset, but reflash via Kies) so far so good no problem.
The whole thing looks like soft prob, not hard.
If it comes back Ill let you know. This could be a nice fix if works.
I'm in nyc, and my local store called the warrenty center and got me a brand new SGS2 one time. It still had all the blue plastic in the sim card and sd card slots, and plastic on the screen. So I'm know they can request it, just depends on your store if they are willing.

My sgs2 had problems out of the box. After I installed custom ROM they went away. It does happen. Restored stock via Odin, still no problems. Sometimes the software doesn't flash correctly from the manufacturer.

Well, I dont know what to think anymore... Looks like the problem persists but happens so rare that without the past I wouldnt notice it.
This makes me believe that with KitKat it will probably disappear. If soft changes cause this to go away or be less it means (to me) that the phone is not defective. New phone is still on the way, to bad I did not purchase it at local store... I did it online, so there is no one to yell at.
It will arrive on Feb 6th so I have plenty of time to test my phone, with some luck KitKat will roll out during this time and then I will be able to definitely see. And if new phone is cool I have the option of exchange anyway .
Thank you all for your help, keep posting, its an interesting issue.
:/
Phone went worse and worse everyday ... now the S-Pen "Air Command" doesnt pop up, several weird disfunctions...
Waiting for the replacement.

I have been having an issue with my screen. Randomly the screen will become unresponsive. I will be playing a game or something and the screen will not respond to my presses, even the buttons at the bottom dont work. If I hit the power button to turn off the screen and wait a second it will become responsive again. This happens while the phone is in my hands so I dont think it is the grounding issue. The other strange thing is sometimes like if I am typing a text it will start doing things on its own like typing a bunch of random letters and such. Or if I am on the homescreen it will try and resize widgets and slide to the next screen.
Anybody come across this issue or know what I can do to fix it? I am running Cyanogen right now but it happened on Fresh as well all with the stock kernels.
Thanks
Yes, I have that issue as well... When I first got the phone it was a rare occurrence, but over time it seems to have gotten worse and worse. It always seems to be worse if it's plugged into the charger, too.
I decided to do something about it today, so I just flashed the stock (rooted) Sprint OTA on it, and am planning to take it to the Sprint store to see if they will replace it under warranty if I can demonstrate the problem.
I'm heading there now. When I get back, I'll post what they say about it here.
Just got back from the Sprint store...
The technician spent about 20 minutes looking at my phone, then returned it to me saying "You're right, that's pretty annoying." and said that they would replace it under warranty for free. He ordered one and said I could come get it on Monday. I know I'll get a refurbished phone, but I figure a refurbished phone that works is better than a new phone that doesn't.
It would seem that it's a hardware problem, and you'll probably also have to get yours replaced, too.
ah bummer, thanks for posting that at least now I know. I just need to figure out how I can make the issue occur so I dont waste my time at the sprint store.
Just an update, they replaced the phone and I have not seen this issue since. I've nandroided the fresh rom I was using before back onto the phone, so it is definitely a hardware issue. Just take the phone into a service center and get them to exchange it and you should be good.

Love the phone but getting kind of sick of this stuff. The phone has been crashing lately, went into a boot loop today that took me at least half an hour to get working again (pulled the sim, sd card and battery till it worked), about 5 minutes ago my phone was on charge and I was sending sms messages using browser texting, and I noticed I hadn't received any replies for a while, so I looked at my phone and noticed it was a phone icon with a red triangle and a red exclamation mark, I pulled the battery and everything booted up like normal, then I went to unlock my phone a minute later and it wasn't responding, but the green notification led was flashing. This is the second phone I've bought, this time with warranty so that's good, I generally really like the phone and I feel if I can fix these weird problems and get the battery life a little better it'll be perfect. Anyone have any ideas? I was thinking of doing a factory restore but I basically just got this phone, and I have so many apps installed (May possibly the problem). I'm running Juice Defender Beta... I think I might try and use Ultimate and not beta and see if that helps the situation, other then that, any ideas guys?
Okay so right now after rebooting my phone again, the phone locked and isn't responding again with the bottom soft keys lit up. This phone is driving me crazy I'm going to uninstall juice defender see if that helps.
Is the phone rooted? If you installed a buggy custom rom it could cause the problems you're seeing.

Thanks for the reply, my phone is completely stock running the 2.3.3 OTA firmware. I uninstalled a few programs, juice defender beta being one of them and everything is working wonderfully now hmmm, besides my poor battery life of course.
Just had another crash while downloading 2 things from the market and now I have the red triangle and exclamation mark thing again..
And now my phone isn't turning on again!. I'm having so much luck with these wonderful devices. What should I do?
the only things, that comes to my mind needs root. root breaks your warranty.
So - i would try factory reset and after this, if it wount help, give it back to the shop for repair.
The red triangle/exclamation mark is stock recovery, you can pull up a menu in it by pressing vol up + power.
Do you get any error messages in that recovery? especially along the lines of:
E: Can't mount cache
If so, it might be a bad emmc chip.
-Nipqer
I didn't see any errors and now the phone wont turn on at all. Looks like I'll have to take it back
Okay so I got a brand new one replaced through warranty, it was the 28th day of the 28 day return period and it was the last one in stock, this one has nothing wrong with the screen which is good. Anyway I was wondering if anyone is willing to bounce ideas off me as to why this has happened to me twice. Bad apps? Juice defender? Custom launcher? (Zeam)? I find it hard to believe this is possible, but it could be.
Definitely don't think it was Zeam. Could just be rotten luck. Perhaps try installing your desired apps one at a time to verify that wasn't the cause. Best of luck.

Good because I like Zeam . The problem with that is it's pretty much impossible to narrow it down like that, the first one took 3 months to die, second one took 2 weeks, I can't install an app then wait until it dies then determine that's the app that does it.
Don't think it was apps that caused your device to behave like that. Probably just faulty device...

I think this has to be the case, an app couldn't fry the device like that could it? Even if it was trying to? I just sincerely hope this one isn't faulty... 3rd times the charm . So basically everyone's in agreement I don't have to do anything special just use the device like normal? Some people are saying don't install too many things, while others are saying just use it like normal what do you guys think. I don't think the amount of apps installed would do that, I had plenty of space left on my phone.

It's probably closer to what Nipqer said with bad EMMC chip. I fully bricked my Desire Z and boy the s--t I did to that phone warranty would have been gone in a few seconds of research. I mean I rooted it, flashed it well over a hundred times. I took it into the HTC repair shop opened up my phone into CWM -- remember if a tech sees CWM -- warranty voided period. I showed him the E:/ can't mount error and he replaced the phone no questions asked. I think this is something that HTC is keeping under wraps instead of doing a massive recall just replacing any unit where this occurs no questions asked. Probably worried about getting a massive class action lawsuit where a judge will force them into doing a recall and giving thier customers a major settlement. Obviously this is only speculation, but I also talked to a good friend who is the west coast business manager for all of Rogers in Canada and he said that every Desire Z that is having problems is getting returned no questions asked, and he said that is completely out of the ordinary for HTC. So my guess something is up and we will never really find out the truth, just count your blessings with this.
Hmm interesting, thanks for your reply gave me something to think about. I guess it makes sense, the phones over a year old and HTC doesn't want to deal with it. I was surprised how quickly and easily I walked out of the Vodafone store with a brand new desire z, tho I've never done it before and it could be standard procedure. Anyway I hope this ones okay, otherwise I'll just take it back again.
Hi, when i open my gamepad slightly my screen will flash black, and if i hold it in a certain positionbit will stay black until moved.
This also happens sometimes when picking up my phone
Is it a loose cable or something?
Should i get it replaced?
Rooted stock R800i, .42
Thanks
Probably the ribbon cable inside the slider. It's a known defective part.

So i could claim it on my warranty?
I got this problem too. But mine worse, sometimes when I wanna type a message the screen goes black, or the screen's light go like disco light, keep blinking at the home page and camera. I sent to Sony Centre to claim warranty but after few days they returned me and told me it was a software problem. Could this be kernel problem?
Yeah, sometimes just touching the screen can do it
I want to unroot before i cant see anything haha
Ive noticed that its just the backlight that goes off, if i make it go black and look at the screen in light i can still see the things there
Im going to request a replacement regardless, starting to annoy me
I tried to reinstall stock firmware but no use. Still the same. I'm gonna tear everything apart and take a look at the ribbon.

DO NOT I repeat, DO NOT take it apart!!
Once you do that your warranty is void permanently and no way to hide it! I can guarantee it's not your software. Revert it to absolute perfect stock and show them it still happens. I'm positive it's the hardware, NOT software.
If they don't wanna fix it after factory restoring, threaten to call head office about it because you already know it's hardware error and they are refusing.
And also mention that many people on the internet are aware that the slider cable is faulty, many have replaced it and fixed the same problem you have.
I'm thinking of mailing them, and requesting they have a recall because more and more people are having the same problem.

Ok, the screen only flashes black on SYSTEM APPS. The installed apps dont have this issue
Seems to have happened after i rooted
Any new ideas?
Okay. Thanks captain. I will follow your orders.
Ok, so ive tried to claim on my warrenty. They said they were gunna send a packet out to return the phone for repair. This was a few weeks ago. Within this time i have called them up 3 extra times stating i havnt recieved the pack.
Is this easy enough to fix myself as im bored of waiting for them and im doubting im ever going to recieve any repair

I dont know what happened. Running stock everything
All of a sudden the phone shut off and now it vibrates every 2 seconds. Have tried everything to get it on.
When you put the battery back in, it shows the load up screen and then half way through, shuts itself off and just vibrates once every 2 seconds. Really annoying.
Called T-Mobile and having a replacement sent tomorrow.

Yeah I have PHP protection with them so I always have warrenty and insurance together. Its alot easier trying to get an exchange when your phone wont turn on because they dont make you do 1000 different things lol, was off the phone within 5 mins. Tried being slick and saying " Well you know if their arent any S2 in stock, you can always send me the s3 if you like ".. Didnt work =[ They had s2 lol
Anyway, nothing really. Was just typing, put the phone down, then the screen went off like it always does, then when I tried to turn it back on to unlock it, it happened.
This happened a few weeks ago but the vibrating lasted for a couple of mins ten ended up turning itself back on. Now its just not turning itself back on at all. Just stuck with the vibrate.
Am I losing everything on it now or will it automatically back up on my gmail account?
I knew I shouldnt have saved all those pix on the phone and not the sd card lol

Sorry, unless you had some kind of auto upload set up ( I set mine up through Dropbox and Google + ), those pictures are likely lost.
Google doesn't automatically sync pics unless you have Picasa, I think?
Russian smashed across the interwebz from my T-Mobile Galaxy S2.
Sounds like the power button might be stuck.
I gotta say, I HATE UPS. I dont know why T-mobile uses them. You get overnight delivery and of course they ring the wrong bell and do not come back. I live on ground floor and they up and ring top bell. Fed EX of course would always come back. Thank fully the overnight delivery was basically be free, but that sucks. I also wish they would just leave the phone sometimes but they never do, even though it is not sig required. ( Drivers Discruction )
Gotta wait till Monday now.
sux brohim
had the same thing happen to me. this was back when i was dong the stock ICS update through (hang myself) Kies. Thankfully T-mobile sent me a new one at no charge and i didn't pay for the shipping either. either battery fried or something in the phone. seems to have been a fairly rare but known prob with the t989.
i always seem to to get the units that are within the .05% of defective units, no matter what company i buy from.
Here's to hoping you get better luck with the next unit! :raise a beer:
Quick question
I have used GB for my gs2 from the beginning and never upgraded to ICS.
I am worried that the replacement they send will have ICS in it. Simply put, will it be easy for me to put GB on the phone when I get it.
You can root and flash a gb Rom
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
You can go through odin and follow the tutorial on galaxys2root.com to unroot and ffash to stock GB. Link provided. The power button may have been stuck on yours but congratulations on getting it replaced. Just follow that tutorial and it will get you to stock 2.3.6 GB with no root or anything done, completely stock.

Was messing around with the power button today pushing it 100 times and it finally turned on. Figures it would turn on when I'm getting a new one on Monday. Least I now backed up all my pix and contacts. Now point in keeping this one though, probably gunna happen again. Keeping the new one.
Wow another S2 down with a defective power button. I just had to send my out to get fixed for the same problem. This is become more common
So I received the phone today. Came stock with 4.0.4.
I plug it into my computer and kies gives me this
" Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies "
What the hell is that all about.
Oh and when I made my first call, I heard the people on the other end, but they did not hear me. I had to battery pull. It sucks because that was an issue with my phone on GB, figured it might have been fixed with ICS. Guess not. It really makes me sick that this happens. Sometimes I call someone and I hear nothing at all. Its happened with both GB and ICS. When the hell are they going to issue a fix for this crap.
First thing that I noticed and do not like is that when I use the keyboard, the phone vibrate heptic or w.e is not as strong as it was with GB. Also the voice on the other end sounds more muffled and more can like than GB. Not sure if thats the phone though
I keep reading that ICS stock verison UVLH1 ICS 4.0.4 is the Official tmobile and best ICS rom for stock
The phone they sent me is Baseband Version UVLI1.
I cant find anything on this version. What is it?

Time for upgrade maybe you can convince them to send you S3
I had to just replace my S2 with a new one from t-mo because I had tons of problems with my original phone once it upgraded to ICS. "Hanging" goodbye (didn't want to shut off unless you took out the battery, even after the buzz - which tells me that I may possibly had a stuck on/off switch too), lost the phone's internal driver so that the phone can be plugged into my PC, internet and processes became S-L-O-W-E-R than molasses, and more.
I'm assuming that, since all the S2's now have ICS on them shipping out, Samsung may have added a little additional processor power or something in order for it to run efficiently on ICS. All I know is that it runs a little faster than my original S2 did. And no problems - SO FAR.
P.S. UPS really does suck - they tried to deliver twice to my house, didn't leave one of those sticky things that said they were there, and I finally wound up going to a UPS service facility where I had to wait over one hour to get my new phone.

I am not really happy with it. Seems slower to me. Not as smooth. Still sometimes the person on the other line cant hear me, and vice versa with the battery pull, but I had that with my old phone and GB also. If I am going to have it either way though, id rather just stay smoother with GB.
What did your new one come with? Mine is UVLI1. Kernel 3.0.8
Running custom ROM's isn't something new to me, however I'm stumped on this one.
I was running the latest AOKP without a hitch. Been two days in fact. Unplugged this morning, was typing a text message and BAM, phone rebooted (vibrated) and constantly reboots.
I took the battery out, tried again.... same outcome. I can get it into recovery, but 3-4 seconds into it, it starts it's rebooting process again.
The only thing I know to do is ODIN back to stop, and format internal storage.
Anyone ran into this problem or seen this recently?
Thanks,
It sounds like you have a stuck power button . Tty cleaning out the power button's hole and if that doesn't help or fix it, send your phone in for repair.

That is the same thing I said, originally. I've taken a part a lot of phones in my day, but do not want to void the errr.... 'warranty'. So, I just contacted Tmobile and they are sending another one. I did put it back to stock, using ODIN. Do not ask me how I got it to actually stay on long enough to use download mode, but I did.
The bad part is Tmobile currently has this phone backlogged for 2-4 weeks. So, Asurion cannot even get me a phone until then. I'm going to call tomorrow and raise holy hell with Tmobile and see what they do.
How would you go about cleaning this out? The button still has the pressed in feeling, i can even hear the spring back click.

To be honest I had the same issue and did everything in could to clean mine out I even pried it away from the connecter it kept resting on to cause the reboots and I never got any success out of it but every phones different I just sent mine back to Samsung and they ended up having to replace the whole motherboard
