Memory cann't be read - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I unlocked and rooted my nexus and tried to connect 3g dongle using otg so I installed an application that flashed something then the device turned off when I opened it it showed a message "operation didn't complete not enough memory" and the play store doesnt open any more when I open the gallery it says "no external sd card" and I cant open the camera, gallery, play store or any file explorer because the memory isnt identified but in settings it shows the free space 11 gb and I can install apps using nexus tool kit on through computer and youtube works fine so does other apps and when I connect the device to computer the memory size is unknown and cannt be opened.

If you don't have important info, do format, you even can do factory reset.

[Q] Unclaimed Internal Storage After Sync Install APK fail

Hi All.
I downloaded an APK to my PC and with the intent to install it using the HTC Sync install app (HTC Sync for Telus [2.x?]). Before the install attempt, I had >15MBs free on the internal storage. The install "failed" with the phone presenting the dialog indicating that I don't have enough space with the button to goto "Manage Applications".
So the install failed, and I am assuming that nothing was "installed", but now my internal storage is down to 5MBs. So I am suspecting that although the installed failed, the transfer of the APK to the phone did not fail.
Could it be the APK is still around on the internal storage? How can I delete it

look in /data/app/ to see if the .apk is there, if not look in /data/data/ to see if any relevent data connected to that app is there

[Q] device not found

Hello. I just got a xperia play phone a few days ago (the Verizon model R800x). I've been trying to figure out what to do with my phone, but I'm having trouble connecting the device to my pc.
I don't know why, but whenever I try to connect the phone's internal memory, the device never shows up. I thought maybe it was my computer, so I tried a couple other ones in my house too and they all can't find the device for some odd reason. It works fine whenever I change to usb storage though the memory card, but the phone itself NEVER shows up. I've also tried installing the PC companion to find the device, but the result is the same.
Any idea why my phone's internal memory can't be located?
EDIT: Yup tried it again. Tried uninstalling the driver and pc companion. Installed PC companion, driver was found, but still doesn't show up in My Computer whenever the phone is connected. SD Memory connection works and shows up in My Computer, connection with the phone doesn't. Tried installing other drivers and it usually says driver is already updated to the most recent. Anyone have any other suggestion?
That's how it works. You can't access the phone's internal storage from a computer.

I have another question though, I just managed to finish setting up adb for my device. The thing is all the apps are still grayed out for moving to sd option and can't be moved to my sd card. I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1089282
I was able to locate my device after typing adb devices and I changed the setInstallLocation 2. But it's still grayed out after I reboot it and check my current apps.
Also on this guide Step 13: check that the Xperia play is available on my computer menu and you can browse his content it says that, but it doesn't show up on My Computer. In step 10, it says to change it media transfer mode. Is there a way to do this for the verizon phones since I heard that function is gone in the verizon xperias.

I also have the same problem. It happened to both my S3 and my Note2. Both runs on 4.1.1 stock rom. Please help. Will really appreciateto have this fixed .
I was having the same problem as you on my shiny new S3. When I saw that the OP had the problem on an S3 and a Note 2, and you saw the problem go away with Firefox, I decided to look at the settings for browser. I found under Settings/Advanced a setting called Default Storage which was set to Memory Card. I changed this to Device, and the download finished successfully.
This all seems to be do to a funky way that Samsung treats external storage and SD cards, look at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1757767
So it seems like there are several options, 1) Set Device Storage to Device. 2) Root your phone and install SwapSD. 3) Return your Samsung device, and buy a Nexus.

[Q] Synch manager only synching phone storage

Hi Forum members,
I have a HTC One X with JB. Since the latest Synch Manager (SM) I am not able to synch anything other than Phone Storage. This is because SM doesn't see anything else. At the same time in Explorer I have a folder Internal Storage. This is the folder I also want to synch (partly). So now I can't synch music and pictures, because they are on the Internal Storage.
Anybody has any ideas how to resolve this?
Furthermore before JB I could choose what to do when I connected to my PC: only charge; use as HD; synchronize; tethering and another option. Now I don't have that possibility and tapping "USB connected" on the 'drop down' list only gives the option to change settings for tethering.
Ones again: anybody has any ideas how to resolve this?
Greetings,
Zooi
Did you update SM to the latest version ?
Yes, I have version 1.1.65.0 and the program tells me I have the latest version.
Uninstall and reinstall maybe ? Or you could mount the device in Recovery Mode so it appears as USB Mass Storage instead of MTP
After uninstalling I downloaded the latest version from the HTC website. This appeared a new version: 1.1.66.0!
Now the SM not even detects the phone :crying:, let alone finds the Phone storage or the Internal storage. So nothing is synched and I still cannot change the mode on my phone from "Charge only" (I think, for I can't see in what way the phone is connected to the PC) to "Synchronize".
I also switched the phone off and back on again, but it changed nothing.
In "My Computer" I can see the phone, but only the Internal Storage. Where is the Phone Storage?
So I'm still not able to synch the phone in the SM program. Suggestions anybody?

No idea on your first question, but the above behaviour is normal. In Android 4.1 (and above) MTP is used to connect to the device rather than mounting it as USB storage. The only way to connect it as a mounted USB storage device is to do it in recovery (as someone already suggested).
But the recovery mode can only be accessed through a rooted device? Mine isn't rooted.

Yes, sorry. Assumed since you were posting on here you'd be rooted.
Anyway, try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34660458
Still uses MTP but reading the thread it sounds like it'll let you access internal storage. I've not tried it since I'm not on Windows anyway, but might be worth a shot.
Same here sync manager does not work on mine. However, windows media player work fine.
I just install the sync manager for the driver.

Thank you all so far for trying to help. Nothing worked, so I still can't access the phone storage and SM doesn't synch other files than music and pictures.I guess I have to manually copy files from internal storage to my PC.
Greetz,
Zooi
Internet pass through don't work
Internet pass through don't work !
I can sync music between my PC with HOX, but no internet pass through via usb cable!
I have v. 1.1.66.0 Sync manger installed on my PC!
Any solution? Thanks!

Mounting SDcard on OSX

With windows, you can mount the SD card and transfer files to it normally. On OS x, we have to use the htc sync manager. Is there anyway to mount the SD card without it?

The HTC Sync is horribly slow. I took the SD card out, put it in the adapter, and popped it in my MBP. It worked flawlessly.

Yeah I didn't even bother it's useless. I want to drag and drop the files myself. Taking the sd card out is an option but it's a hassle since you need a pin all the time. I'm trying some apps in the play store but no luck so far. Kind of dumb how they're forcing htc sync on us
You will need ROOT and app called "DriveDroid"
Download Android File Manager - http://www.android.com/filetransfer/
Open DriveDroid app, give it root access and under its settings, change USB or Permanent USB mode to "Mass Storage Android Debugging"
Connect to OSX and open the Android File Manager app on OSX... next time you wont need to open it manually, it will open everytime you connect the phone.
This might break connection to HTC Sync though
(I use the above for my iMac)

Do you have to reboot your Mac every time you want to mount the Android device? I am having issues getting the device to mount to an already running OSX computer.
What I don't get is why we need extra software. My old htc one s mounts the sd card just fine with no extra software

The solution is uninstall HTC Sync Manager and using DriveDroid change to Manually change permanent Mode to MTP.
Is there a way though to force the internal storage and SD card to be directly mounted onto OSX, rather than having to use another 3rd party app (android file transfer)?

Its not 3rd party ... its from Google
And the answer is no to your question, unless you run a SMB server on the phone over your wifi network, then your phone will popup in Finder as a network device. I have tried 3rd party phone apps that do this but the connection is unreliable and transfer speed slow.

In http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54035979 I may provide a partial solution; depending on your exact need. Look for the post I sent a few minutes ago. More to come in the next days; I will test other apps, and report.
Does this allow bootable drives?
