Hi All.
I downloaded an APK to my PC and with the intent to install it using the HTC Sync install app (HTC Sync for Telus [2.x?]). Before the install attempt, I had >15MBs free on the internal storage. The install "failed" with the phone presenting the dialog indicating that I don't have enough space with the button to goto "Manage Applications".
So the install failed, and I am assuming that nothing was "installed", but now my internal storage is down to 5MBs. So I am suspecting that although the installed failed, the transfer of the APK to the phone did not fail.
Could it be the APK is still around on the internal storage? How can I delete it

look in /data/app/ to see if the .apk is there, if not look in /data/data/ to see if any relevent data connected to that app is there
there is nothing in /data

I dont see that option in settings/application. Can you be more specific?
i found this solution by googling, this may help someone drop by this thread
connect your device to your PC and manually delete the “smdl2temp1” file. The file is likely to reside in 2 locations:
1. /sdcard/.android_secure: this is an invisible folder on your SD card, which you can access with any file manager, like ASTRO
2. /mnt/secure/asec/: access to this folder requires root and a program like Root Explorer
it works for me.
is it solved now??
Hello,
Today I was trying to copy some files to my Xperia S via USB from my WinXP PC. When trying to copy the files, I got the message "the device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected" with the option to skip or cancel. This happened several times, and I plugged and unplugged the cable between tries.
After giving it up, I went to the phone and found out that all my files were gone. The folders disappeared and I can't find any pictures or media files (as well as any of the files that existed before - and I have show hidden files enabled in Android File Manager app). In Settings > Storage > Internal it says that I have 25 GB free (when I should have only 2 or 3 GBs left). The current folder structure viewable in the app is probably the folders for apps that after restart, recreated the folders.
However, if I connect to PC again, I can see the old folder structure in Internal Storage and the listing of the files inside it (the photos, etc). If I try to copy inside the SDCARD or to the PC I get the same message "the device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected" and I can't open any kind of file.
I think the data is still in the SD Card, but not accessible anymore. Has anyone experienced this before and can help me?
Thanks,
andré

I too have this problem with my Game ROMs folder with my SNES and Genesis games. I'll run the emulator and then when I go to find a game the folder has disappeared. I have them saved on my PC so I just copy it over but an actual solution would be nice. My phone is rooted and ROMed.
Oh and I tried Titanium Backups but they sometimes disappear as well. I've never had that app work for me anyways always freezes and the backup is never restored.
It seems to me large folders and files not involved in the phones dedicated folder structure seem to disappear.
The best thing for you to do would be to root your phone and try the SD card mounting app which mounts the SD card in mass storage mode. MTP mode always gives such problem so and is unreliable..

Exactly. MTP has lots of problem.
I don't understand why Android use it.
So I have an ATT Samsung Galaxy SIII, rooted and flashed with Clockworkmod and Cyanogenmod 10.1 RC4. I updated Cyanogenmod today and could not back up due to low storage space. (Like an idiot) I still updated without manually backing up any data.
After I updated to RC4, all my GBA Roms, my Rom saves, my photos, basically all my data EXCEPT FOR system settings, texts, and app info was gone. My contacts were gone as well. I tried searching with my file explorer to find the data, but could not find anything. I also tried connecting via USB and looking with my laptop. I still couldnt find my old data, yet my internal storage space is still brimming to the top.
I DID FIND MY DATA!
The ONLY way I kindof see my data is by starting into recovery mode, choosing "install zip from sdcard," then choosing "choose zip from sdcard," AND THEN I CAN SEE ALL MY OLD APP INFO AND DATA. But I cant do anything with any of it, or access it from my computer.
Can anyone please explain to me how to get my app data, pictures, and ROMS, say, onto my laptop?
UPDATE: I used SD Maid to search for one of my GBA ROMS, and found them. So I now have a path to work with:
my old files are in /mnt/shell/emulated/
but now I can't figure out how to get them out and on to my computer. My computer doesn't show system files. I installed everything to make my computer and phone compatible with Android Commander, but it just shows a blank line where my phone should show up, and it gives me the "Android ADB device offline, can't issue commands" error. I'm so frustrated.
I have the same issue. I cant find a solution anywhere. In CWM I can see lots of old files that I had saved. I see them any other way than through CMW. And 6GB of SDcard is missing. I know those files are what is taking up the space but I can't access them.
I unlocked and rooted my nexus and tried to connect 3g dongle using otg so I installed an application that flashed something then the device turned off when I opened it it showed a message "operation didn't complete not enough memory" and the play store doesnt open any more when I open the gallery it says "no external sd card" and I cant open the camera, gallery, play store or any file explorer because the memory isnt identified but in settings it shows the free space 11 gb and I can install apps using nexus tool kit on through computer and youtube works fine so does other apps and when I connect the device to computer the memory size is unknown and cannt be opened.

If you don't have important info, do format, you even can do factory reset.

Two problems with my device
Hi,
I having two problem with my device which after two days, I'm not manage to solve.
First of all in my storage, I got 25.3GB (!) of used space under "Other" section, I don't have any idea what takes all that space.
Second when I try to get to the device files from the computer, I can see only 7 folders, which most of them empty and none of them can't explain the 24GB of space that are used in my internal storage
where's all my files and why I cant get them from the computer??
Any help?? Thanks!

Factory reset?
I did it, but everytime I got the same phone after it automatically install all the apps and data that was before.
If you have any guide of how to completely reset the phone with TWRP (like delete everything expect of the OS) it will be great.

Connecting the phone to your computer just enables you to read the "internal storage" (data/media) partition, and does not let you see the rest of the user data (including app data, which is likely what is filling up your storage).
To see what is taking up all your storage, install the app "Disk Usage" from the Play Store. Great app that lets you see though an intuitive and visual interface, what is filling up your storage. Then use a good file manager like ES File Manager to browse and delete the unwanted files.
Of course, know what you are deleting; and don't delete any system data unless you really know what you are doing.

In TWRP select Wipe then Format data - type yes then reboot.
You'll have to setup your system again and you will gain all your lost data space.
Ok guys thank you
I reset my phone and start it from 0
