With windows, you can mount the SD card and transfer files to it normally. On OS x, we have to use the htc sync manager. Is there anyway to mount the SD card without it?

The HTC Sync is horribly slow. I took the SD card out, put it in the adapter, and popped it in my MBP. It worked flawlessly.

Yeah I didn't even bother it's useless. I want to drag and drop the files myself. Taking the sd card out is an option but it's a hassle since you need a pin all the time. I'm trying some apps in the play store but no luck so far. Kind of dumb how they're forcing htc sync on us
You will need ROOT and app called "DriveDroid"
Download Android File Manager - http://www.android.com/filetransfer/
Open DriveDroid app, give it root access and under its settings, change USB or Permanent USB mode to "Mass Storage Android Debugging"
Connect to OSX and open the Android File Manager app on OSX... next time you wont need to open it manually, it will open everytime you connect the phone.
This might break connection to HTC Sync though
(I use the above for my iMac)

Do you have to reboot your Mac every time you want to mount the Android device? I am having issues getting the device to mount to an already running OSX computer.
What I don't get is why we need extra software. My old htc one s mounts the sd card just fine with no extra software

The solution is uninstall HTC Sync Manager and using DriveDroid change to Manually change permanent Mode to MTP.
Is there a way though to force the internal storage and SD card to be directly mounted onto OSX, rather than having to use another 3rd party app (android file transfer)?

Its not 3rd party ... its from Google
And the answer is no to your question, unless you run a SMB server on the phone over your wifi network, then your phone will popup in Finder as a network device. I have tried 3rd party phone apps that do this but the connection is unreliable and transfer speed slow.

Try changing it from MTP to PTP. Let the computer find it again, then switch it back to MTP. Works for me every time

thanks for the encouragement.. i know i'll get a solution with your help..
Fair enough. What if you do install windows media player 11 and see what that does?
Sent from my SGH-T999
Um the sdcard can only write at about say max 80Mbps sustained. WLAN will be fast enough at 40.. what is USB2.0?
Anyways if you are putting lots of files, leave them on external, and don't have to worry about copying again. No good reason to have then on sdcard vs external.
You can just copy to ext then use any file mgr program to copy it using the phone.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I use N so it's 100mbps and fast enough to not notice any difference. I'm guessing your problem is that XP is old as F. A simple solution is to just plug the sd card into your computer. But as it was pointed out the sd card is slower than wifi so it really doesn't matter.
Oh and I'd just like to point out you could have moved the files 10000 times by now. With airdroid you can move around the house while files are transferring. So you can relax and still use the phone instead of being tethered to the computer. And if you have splashtop you'd never even have to touch your PC.
Put Linux on a flash drive and use that?
So i updated my One X through the OTA 4.1.1, now everything changes and stuff. Now I can't mount my hox as a disk driver, it forces me to download the htc sync manager, but it doesn't work either...
It doesn't recognize my device, it says no device.

to use usb you need to go in recovery and mount usb, if you're not rooted, well, that's the only method... HTC ha removed the USB storage from JB
lol, sorry im really new to this android thing. How do i go into recovery mode?
and plus, if i choose to use sync manager, why doesn't it recognize my device? Is it because i don't the mtp drivers?
thanks in advance
I haven't got the JB OTA, but I usually use Solid Explorer's File Transfer mode to copy files to/from my device over wifi. I don't see why it shouldn't work on JB too, so you can give it a try - download the app from the Play Store and use your favourite mac ftp client (mine is Cyberduck). Good luck!

Wait, so are you saying HTC has made the internal storage like it is on the GNex (one big partition for apps + data +user storage that can't be accessed through USB storage mode)? But could they have removed USB file transfer support without reformatting everything?
I updated to official JB and now on connecting to pc via usb it doesn't show the same notification window as ICS.
There is no option as Charge Only or Disk Drive..
Is this normal, how to allow disk drive access in this case.
You can automatically access the phone storage on both sides (pc and from phone) at the same time. AKA mtp usb storage.

I was not having Sync Manager bfore hand so, when i connected my cell, Htc Syn Manager Setup started and downloaded a file of about 106.4 Mb, installer started and after a few steps it showed an error that a CheckandRemoveOldHTCDriver could not be found..
Any guesses whats wrong in this.. I m on 32 bit Win XP.
I m badly stuck, cant transfer any files.. No Disk Drive option appears on usb pc connection, so no access to transfer files.

Need some thing else, i have tried everything, I dont understand how can a Driver file b missing when i have run HTC Driver Installer and have downloaded the HSM setup file from HTC.com straight that too twice..
Initially the setup showed some other files missing like MS VC Redist 2005 etc, so i got them one after one then it stopped at this error...
All I wanted was to enjoy my JB but it a nightmare nw..

How can i remove all htc drivers, i know the device manager approach. But read sumwhere that these drivers are some times stored in system and same reverts when u connect the device..?
They have done away with usb mass storage in JB and gone to MTP storage. A decent work around is to mount with CWM recovery or TWRP recovery
Also this has been discussed before mate

Are you just trying to transfer files cuz you don't need adb to transfer. Just mount your SD card, drag and drop.
Now if you are trying to push system files, then ok. To start, what Rom are you running? Also, you can do what I said above then use a root browser from the play store to move the files within.

First. it's ADB, not ABD.
Second, it's definitely that the phone's not going into Debug mode?? You have the path for ADB Set in your command line, the server starts, stops, etc?
Also, why can't you just connect the phone to your computer with the USB Cable, toggle USB Connect and have at it?

Did you roll back all old drivers, remove them in registry.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1882942
Also, if you get the MTP error after this, go to device manger "type it in start"
Go to View
Select Hidden Driver
Go To Non_Plug and Play Drivers
Right Click on Hardware Policy Driver
Go To Driver Tab,
Stop this device
and Disable it
Restart Windows ( unplug phone first, disable network card also)
Disable WiFi or network card, (double tap)
Plug in Phone
Allow windows to load the drivers on your phone.
(don't stop this at all)
Look for phone.
Later you can add updated drivers if you would like. Remember windows keeps all old drivers, even if its jacked up. PnP will still run.
This works on Vista and above. haven't tested it on XP.
IMPORTANT
U must re-enable the change to the device manager after this, or each time you reboot it will reload the drivers.
Also if you want to search for old pics (assuming they were on your external card if you had one)
Use Recurva. To do this you will need a mini USB to card reader. They make them as UBS and camera card style. Then mount and recover. If not you got to rip open your phone, take out the HD, and using the correct connector, (use by) get a drive enclosure. It will mount the HD as a external flash drive. But only do this if you don't want the phone anymore.
later and I hope it helps
