Hello,
I recently tried out a few different ROMs (Avatar and CM) and I liked them both. The problem is that I am told to activate my phone whenever my phone starts up. It seems that my data connection actually barely works even if I do not activate, but calls and texts do not. When I try the activation process when everything starts up, the call it makes gets a response of "The number or code you have dialed is incorrect." and then it does not activate. My phone was activated before I rooted my device, and I'm not sure what the problem is right now. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Edit: Currently doing a live chat with Sprint so they can activate the phone again. They said they activated it, but the problem persists. I'll update again in case anyone else has this problem.
The phone's data is actually working, but calls and texts are not. Sprint couldn't help me. I guess I'll have to go back to unrooted.
You need to be on a twiz rom to activate. It won't work from AOSP/CM roms as the dialer codes don't work with the aosp dialer. Just flash a rooted twiz rom and then do the activation. You can do it yourself from sprint.com just follow the activation steps. Which are enter imei/dec, dial ##786# > enter MSL > reset > wait for auto reboot, then ##72786# > enter MSL > edit > phone# enter 10-digit phone# > MIN > enter 10-digit MIN > reboot, profit.

I flashed Jellybomb to it and everything is working perfectly on this rom. Going to flash the latest CM nightly and see if it works.

I am on SynergyROM_r51_FULL, I am trying to get data and texting and calls back, my phone does not let me do any of those things and like I said every time that phone resets I get to the hands free activation screen then I get the message "internal failure error 1500".
any help with this will be appreciated.
I'm guessing you are having the hfa problem. Check this link out

Might want to mention to reboot your phone before doing this. Mine had 24 pages of log and the MSL information that gets logged when the phone boots had already been overwritten.

Neither does the terminal emulator. It works fine on stock.
This process has less requirements, but is more work.
Terminal emulator option, IMO, is actually simpler.
More options is good overall though so thanks OP.

This is a simple and easy way to backup and restore your GS3's COMPLETE NV items which hold your IMEI, IMSI, Data settings and much more!
INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Download NV reader/writer HERE and install THESE drivers.
2) Dial *#7284# and select "Qualcomm USB Settings" then check "RMNET + DM + MODEM".
*If you are running a aosp rom (cm9,cm10,aokp etc) you can use the diag method described HERE
3) Create backup.
a) Click "port" in the top left and select your samsung serial port.
b) Make sure BOTH boxes in the top bar are checked.
c) Click "Connect" in the top bar.
d) Click "Read" in the top bar.
e) Click "Read" in the lower 'NV-items' section.
f) Save the .txt file, this is your backup
*The process will take 5-10min. The file size will be roughly 3mb and "inactive item" and "bad parameter" sections are normal.
*To restore click "Write" in the lower 'NV-items' section and navigate to your backup file.
4) Dial *#7284# and select "Qualcomm USB Settings" then check "MTP + ADB".

ATTENTION: I need a copy of someones full backup. Requirements are that you never flashed an AOSP rom (CM9, CM10, AOKP) and that your SGS3 is T-mobile. I need this to work on the data issue!
Update: The data issue is still being worked on and some progress has been made but there is still not a solid easy fix. IF YOU MADE A BACKUP THEN GOT THE DATA BUG, PLEASE MAKE A SECOND BACKUP SO THAT I CAN COMPARE THE BEFORE/AFTER!

Nice, even easier method.
Can someone with a T-mobile sgs3 that has never flashed a CyanogenMOD rom or preformed a clockworkmod restore do a full backup and send it to me in a private message?
To do the backup I need read Range (Dec): 00000-05575
Note: I want this so I can look into the data issues that some people are having. Thank you.

Yes, that is how it's supposed to look. The 08 is the command setting and the rest is your encoded IMEI.

Wait, you guys found the IMEI? I haven't been following.
I backed up and I was using FreeGSM R5. Backed up and re-wrote, lost service but it came back after a reboot. Great find! Now don't have to worry about ever losing my IMEI.
Does this mean we need no longer be afraid to flash to our hearts content?

This is great, thanks! IMEI backed up and written back to check :nervewrecking:

If you are using triangle away to reset your flash counter it will automatically go to 1 as the application states that some phones stay that way. Id rather have a flash count of 1 instead of 200+ like I did on my e4gt

Yes you are correct but that's only if you are using a custom recovery or custom kernal. Ive tried flashing back to stock recovery and its not working threrfore it will continue to go back to 1. So it there any other way ??

As soon as you put a custom recovery or kernel on it'll go right back to 1 even if you don't use odin to do it. It checks the recovery and boot partitions for the Samsung signatures as well as increasing from using odin to flash.

Odd indeed. Not quite sure what I'm supposed to do to get it displaying...what's weird is Titanium Backup shows VoLTE settings as an item, so clearly it exists somewhere, but I definitely am not getting VoLTE calls even though I have WiFi calling working.

Yeah, I don't have that. Not sure if reflashing NF4 would bring it back or not.
I'm on NF4, going to Settings/Device/Call I have the option to use it or not right between rejection and answering/ending.
As I stated in the thread you already mentioned this in, your CSC is missing. Flash the nf4 CSC in the op of the nf4 thread in my Sig.

Thanks. Flashing the CSC did fix the missing VoLTE settings. I did however notice that when I attempt to use WiFi Calling on my home network as well as many other WiFi networks, the status for WiFi calling gets stuck on "Enabling". Has anyone else encountered that?

Try this:
1) power down your device
2) pull out sim card
3) boot device into download mode
4) flash full firmware of same version using desktop odin (unchecked auto reboot)
5) when done flashing, manually reboot into recovery (stock recovery), wipe cache.
6) when finished, power device back off and insert sim.
7) boot normally. Check to ensure volte and wifi calling are working.
8) assuming they are, you can re root and reflash any custom recovery and/or kernel you might have had.
Hope that helps!

I bought a Sprint S3 activated on Verizon prepaid. I had voice, talk, and data but no mms. I was trying to fix the mms issue and I lost network from entering in a secret code. I don't know if it was a factory reset or an update. I called Verizon prepaid and they had me do *228 to reactivate my phone. The reactivation restored voice and text but NO DATA, and of course still no mms. I can get into data programming using ##data# but I'm unsure of what the fields should contain. How do I get my mobile data back? I had it, so I know it's possible!!!! Someone please tell me the values of each field so I can verify the information.
(have figured out i bought a phone that has a cloned esn so Verizon tech support can't help b/c they think i have a different phone - this seems fishy and i wouldn't have bought this phone if i knew)
Thanks in advance for your help!!!

ok, I tried the ##72786# and I think this is the exact code that messed things up in the first place. After doing this the phone tries to do hands free activation (probably for sprint) but I am now on verizon prepaid. When I go into about phone it has the wrong phone number. I am about to do the *228 to reactivate it through verizon prepaid. Maybe I'll get lucky and the data will be back on! Thanks for trying bilgerry! wish me luck

After reading many forums I realize I need to use a file explorer type program to change the permissions of apn backup app and then I should be able to insert new apn into backup file and then back it up. I have hit a few snags so far. I tried titanium backup but i need to pay for the pro version for it to work, and I'm too cheap. So, I tried root explorer but I don't have enough knowledge to get the right thing changed. I may bite the bullet and pay for titanium pro unless someone here has a better suggestion of a free app. Also, does anyone have an apn xml file for me to insert into backup file when I get there? I need the one for verizon. Thanks for the help of anyone who is reading this. Wish me luck!!
almost figured it out~~~~
I figured out how to change the permissions for apn backup and restore! I backup up current apn to create the folder. I then went into backup folder and changed it to a verizon apn in xml format. After changing backup file in storage I deleted went to apn backup and restore to delete current apn and backup the modified version. It did not work but I believe I am doing it correctly I just need the correct version of the apn. Can anyone please post the apn in xml so i can copy and paste it into my backup file???
I need the current verizon apn in xml code please!!!!
