Might want to mention to reboot your phone before doing this. Mine had 24 pages of log and the MSL information that gets logged when the phone boots had already been overwritten.
112233 or 123321 or 990011...
Try the last six of your MDN...

anyone can try it out themselves by hitting *#RIL# > NV Backup and trying out passwords. NV Backup is safe so no worries of it actually working

Neither does the terminal emulator. It works fine on stock.
This process has less requirements, but is more work.
Terminal emulator option, IMO, is actually simpler.
More options is good overall though so thanks OP.
awesome
thanks
Good stuff. I just made a nandroid from jellyverse. Odin eg30 stock. Used terminal. Then restored. Took just a few minutes.

thanks for the correction. would you mind posting the commands so others may see them better?
if anyone wants to do it themselves open the bak file in any hex editor and look around the code is in there twice and is an 8 digit number
added an attachment that shows where it is located. the last box on line 515040 I just removed all the other information to make sure there was no identifying information to protect the source.
wow discovered this after I paid for mine LOL
but still no regret.. no more hassle worth more than $35 for me
Anyway thanks OP for sharing your knowledge for free!
hmmm line 515040 mine shows 123456789 i'm using hex edit neo... mabey I should try a diffrent program.
works great
I have a Captivate and I believe I found it. I don't have another network provider sim to put in. I tried the #0111*unlockcode# with and without my AT&T sim in. It returns "Not registered on network" if I try without a sim card in. If I try with the sim card in it says running ussd code and then says "Rejected".

Think I found it now.. thanks.. hey did you get yours to work?
I can't get mine to take. I think this unlock method requires me to put in a different network providers sim card (which I don't have ).
Its not the number that you see twice its the 8 digit number rate after that.. its works.. now working on rogers..

yes, I mean the European version.
Try this: http://www.multiupload.com/2IAYWWGF8A
It's a win32 executable. Run the program from command line with the blockdevice backup as parameter:
c:\sgux.exe bml3.bak
IT returns the unlock code fory your phone.
It's based on the tip posted on this thread by rhcp0112345.
It works with european sgs.
I found the number some where around 7D7850. Do a search for SSNV and that helps. The unlock code is the 8 digit number after the twice repitition of an another 8 digit number
For example: this is what i found when searching for ssvn:
SSNVgµj`½€ÂµŸƒ{ô)7ãæ&J¹˜–™ñJ"ËŸÓ*GI£JärçÈJLj~&gUP§‘×Èó2ëæ?€Ú÷ä597103215971032156774932000000302610204040001010999990ÿ
the bold is the unlock key.
I think this guy deserves the bounty if this works for everybody

Yep, that's the easiest method of recovery. I don't see whats so bad about going into download mode and flashing with odin. It's not really that hard that we need to worry about something that would make the process 'automatic'.

Well I do agree with you, but for ease of mind, its much more convenient to have something like Itunes to restore the firmware/contacts/audio/video/ sms/ emails/etc rather than doing it manually using 3-4 different softwares?

try 91 pc suite for android. it can do EVERYTHING.
You might have to try set the language, when it starts, its in chinese. I think some Developer here can catch the idea.
I think you need GLASSES.
Also iTunes won't fix your iPhone if you jailbreak & break your device to send files via BT or be able to install real programs; it's simply going to stay laggy and the next update might cause it to brick.
Samsung kies can back up pretty much anything and odin can restore any firmware. On iPhone if you brick it, without warranty it's trash because you can't flash an iPhone with programs like odin.

Well i finally decided to root the my desire z.. But i am not able to do it.
I am currently in using 1.82 stock firmware.
Following the wiki to root, while trying to downgrade using the goldcard method, I am unable to copy the goldcard data to the removable disk. The Paste Write option is disabled, coz of which i cant copy the data. Have tried as mentioned in both XP and win 7.. So stuck at step 12 of the goldcard method.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=832503
12) Click on the 'Removable Disk' tab. Highlight offset (line) 00000000 to offset (line) 00000170 (including the 00000170 line), then click on the 'Edit' menu and select 'Paste Write'.

how did the root work for you? I am nervous to do it...need some guidance i guess
If you are honestly nervous about doing it, try using this guide or perhaps this one. Also there is an IRC channel for helping people. Its #G2ROOT i think on some server.. You'll have to search it since I'm sorta busy right now
yeah, i've done a ton of reading but just get so confused with the amount of info, and what works on this doesnt work with this...so much different than flashing my old touch or diamond, even the samsung omnia was easy compared to this. I'll try your guides. thanks.
If you dont understand anything in the guides just PM me. Because I do understand how hard it can be to root for the first time.
I followed the instructions below that I got from searching marcusant revival thread (I'm noob and yes I did look this up before posting haha). However after I long press properties I get the screen that is pictured at the bottom left of this post. Root and Mount are checked in the settings however I'm not seeing any option to "modify the permissions". I love the Red theme and ROM i just need the GPS to work please help! [NOTE: I have also tried flashing GPSFix.zip but to no avail]

[The life & times of a noob]
Hey no problem thats what we are all hear for to learn and to help glad you got it working
Hi all,
This may be a totally noob question and feel free to delete the thread if it's been answered before but here goes. I updated my S3 via Kies to the 4.3 update and all went well and seemed to be working ok. However the camera now has no shutter sounds. I know having it silenced is a good option but sometimes hearing it helps. I've tried changing volumes, rebooting, everything. The only answer I get from Samsung is to factory rest the phone. Would that help? Is there another way? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Please check your camera settings?
A factory reset probably won't fix it

I checked and theres no option. I don't think the Sprint variant has this option. It would definitely make life a lot easier if it did though. Thanks for the reply.
Found this. Didn't test it myself (I'm running MOAR rom). Might work for you?
Cool - I done this and it works a treat!!
**EDIT: This post refers to a mod which activates an unused menu option to switch off the shutter sound. Other sounds in the camera app will still be present. Thought I'd clarify this in case of any confusion.
Just in case anyone else wants to do this (I think this would be the 'correct' method of applying this fix as opposed to removing the sound file or muting your phone!), then here is a little guide.
Root access required of course, and I used Root Explorer to do the following:
1. In Root Explorer, navigate to the following location:
/system/csc and look for a file called 'others.xml'.
2. Long-press on this file and select 'Open With', and then select 'Text Editor'.
3. Scroll all of the way to the end and look for the following:
</FeatureSet>
</SamsungMobileFeauture>
4. Insert the following line just before the </FeatureSet> code.
5. Then pressing the 'Back' button will automatically save the file and back-up the original in the folder.
6. Restart your phone.
7. Now when you go into the camera, tap on the settings, so you get camera settings, video settings, and the general settings in a pop-up, press the settings icon/tab and scroll down and you can now select to toggle the sound on/off (second-last option).
Thanks to all above for guiding me to this little fix, it takes no time at all to apply. The camera sound was annoying me a bit and was surprised to see it wasn't a supplied function.
To revert, simply go back to the file you edited, delete it, then remove the '.bak' from the backed-up file.

And all credit to the original Dev. for the code for this mod, at this thread:
