Yep, that's the easiest method of recovery. I don't see whats so bad about going into download mode and flashing with odin. It's not really that hard that we need to worry about something that would make the process 'automatic'.

Well I do agree with you, but for ease of mind, its much more convenient to have something like Itunes to restore the firmware/contacts/audio/video/ sms/ emails/etc rather than doing it manually using 3-4 different softwares?

try 91 pc suite for android. it can do EVERYTHING.
You might have to try set the language, when it starts, its in chinese. I think some Developer here can catch the idea.
I think you need GLASSES.
Also iTunes won't fix your iPhone if you jailbreak & break your device to send files via BT or be able to install real programs; it's simply going to stay laggy and the next update might cause it to brick.
Samsung kies can back up pretty much anything and odin can restore any firmware. On iPhone if you brick it, without warranty it's trash because you can't flash an iPhone with programs like odin.

Okay so, I want to root my phone so I can get custom roms on it and get better battery life and better performance, so my buddy tried multiple times to root my phone using Odin, but for some reason clockwork mod isn't going onto the phone. We have tried with debugging on and off but nothing seems to be working. Can somebody please point me to a guide that deals win this or a thread that does or just tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thanks!!
Use the search bar. It might get you somewhere
Wrong place to ask question, but for rooting take a look at here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728
already tried that AsinX

Then you probably shouldn't be rooting. This is the developer forum not a question section. That method of rooting is probably the easiest as well.

It's simple.. check those tutorials
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Be2evusAwOM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZRnH-_XZmM
Install USB drivers...
Get e4gtauto.zip (and unpack it)
Run "RUNFIRST.bat"
Run option A to root device (and follow prompt)
For CWM use option C (and follow prompt)

If that is too complicated for you, stick to a stock rom.
thank you to everyone who replied my thread and to erik077 for finding that other thread and posting it in my thread. cuz it worked. i successfully rooted and put a custom ROM on my device. I was getting worried cuz it took too long for the phone to load. but i still have one more question. for some reason i have a yellow triangle with a "!" in it on the screen just before the boot animation. can you tell me how i can get that off? thanks!!

Oh FFS! So sorry that it's too complicated for you. Maybe an iPhone would be more appropriate? This is XDA-Developers, not XDA-Please-Hold-My-Hand-Because-I-Can't-Read-And-Figure-Things-Out-For-Myself. You can't even read the stickies that tell you NOT TO POST QUESTIONS IN DEVELOPMENT.
Moving this to Q&A where it should have been in the first place - then closing this.

Sadly, it seems my IMEI has been set to zero.
I can still make calls and text, but my data is on Edge network only.
I've been doing some searching and reading (by some I mean a lot) and I guess I'm getting a little confused in it all.
Would using ODIN to reset my phone to stock fix the IMEI?
I have the IMEI on a sticker on the phone, could TMobile reset the IMEI for me?
Thanks in advance.
Swap it if you have insurance. If not search xda for fix.

Yes Odin will fix the Issue. Please choose correct firmware to flash via Odin.
Thanks for the response.
Trying to confirm I get the RIGHT rom for my device.
Went to sammobile.com/firmwares/
Looking at all the options for SGH-T999, do I have to made basebands to what I have now (T999UVDLJA) which is dated Oct 2012, or is that something that gets "updated" if I apply the latest rom (March 2014)?
Depends on what you had before all these problems. You must choose that same version otherwise you may hard brick the phone.
*sigh*
And I suppose there's no way to know that? I don't have a back up or anything...
Is there anyway to determine?
Thanks for your help and direction thus far!
Oh Sure. There are other ways to determine. If possible post a photo of the download screen. Otherwise type out exactly what you see when the phone is in download mode.

I'm assuming that is the info you were looking for?
Yes that's what I needed. I suggest please use UVDMD5 Version of Root66 to flash via Odin.
Excellent.
So follow directions and get files from here?: http://www.androidayos.com/2013/05/...y-bean-without-binary-flash-counter-increase/
Well. Yes. I'd direct you to the Thread here under Android Development.
Yeap. The link I posted actually takes you back to the link you provided.
Both bookmarked.
I hope to do this tonight.
If I understand this correctly, this should flash my phone back to stock with my valid IMEI
Using this Route66 I will have root on the phone and should then be able to do a CM install if I choose?
Yes and yes.
If that is your desire, then while you are in Odin, flash a custom Recovery such as TWRP or CWM as well.

... I will have to research on how to do that too then.
First concern is getting the IMEI back so that I can actually USE the phone with data -- regardless if it's CM or stock OS.
As the UVDMD5 will have correct modem, hopefully that will restore IMEI. Otherwise we may have to see what happens.
hmmm sort of seems to have worked... stuck at the "SAMSUNG" screen though.
Reading other links says I should have cleared cache before doing?
Hmmm cleared cache.
Did factory reset.
Still stuck at pulsating "SAMSUNG" logo...
Ok got into phone... ugh is stock ROM just painful. Who designs these things?!?!
Sadly, IMEI is still set at 0
this doesn't seem to have worked

Can't TMobile just restore the IMEI if I take it to one of their stores?

Welcome to Sony. Reboot your comp and if it still doesn't show up then god knows.
Have you got latest version of flashtool installed?
Not near my pc, but am sure theres the option to browse for the ftf file in flashtool? Just make sure source folder is pointed to the firmware folder your ftf is in and flash.

Its been about 2 weeks now and I am still having this problem. One day while I was a school I felt my phone really hot in my pocket. and it was off. When I truened it back on the battery was only 20% and then I could not find any wifi networks. It used to work for about 30 seconds when I restarted the phone, but now it does not even do that. Any help?! This is pretty bad.

A modem is what controls your phones communication with the internet and voice and data... Pretty important. Go to Settings/About Phone and flash the one that matches the last four characters in your Baseband (like GB27 for example)-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1764210

Flashing a custom ROM or doing a factory reset won't mess with your cricket flash, although you will have to follow directions in this thread to get back working MMS and 3g (if you flash an AOSP or CM-based ROM... 3g should work out of the box on stock-based).

I recently got my S6 back from Samsung. They untripped knox, and installed a very slim rom without any of the sprint bloatware, and no sprint splash screen. Is there some way I can back up this rom to be able to flash it in odin if/when I need to?
Thanks!

You can back up everything if you flash TWRP recovery and select the backup option it comes in hand but other than that i dont believe you can do it without tripping Knox again
Thanks for the reply, that's unfortunate news. I really don't feel like tripping Knox since I would like samsung pay to continue working.

You can try ADB Backup. A good set of instructions can be found at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/general/guide-phone-backup-unlock-root-t1420351
No guarantee that this will work, but it should not trip Knox.
Please post a system dump of this b3fore you do anything. PLEASE

Is it oi1 build ? Ive sent plenty phones back for warranty and samsung never did that before . Trip knox , so what? Samsung warrantys phones like that all the time . Just tell them you took it to the samsung experience shop at "BestBuy" and they tried to flash the operating system to get the phone working properly again. Id tell them it kept rebooting after you updated it through wifi to 5.1.1 . Youll never have an issue with them if you explain it to them that way . Give us a new build lol
