ATTENTION: I need a copy of someones full backup. Requirements are that you never flashed an AOSP rom (CM9, CM10, AOKP) and that your SGS3 is T-mobile. I need this to work on the data issue!
Update: The data issue is still being worked on and some progress has been made but there is still not a solid easy fix. IF YOU MADE A BACKUP THEN GOT THE DATA BUG, PLEASE MAKE A SECOND BACKUP SO THAT I CAN COMPARE THE BEFORE/AFTER!

Nice, even easier method.

Can someone with a T-mobile sgs3 that has never flashed a CyanogenMOD rom or preformed a clockworkmod restore do a full backup and send it to me in a private message?
To do the backup I need read Range (Dec): 00000-05575
Note: I want this so I can look into the data issues that some people are having. Thank you.

Is thats how it suppose to look , isn't string very short only 9 characters long ? ATT Samsung based deodexed rom.

It is working on ATT too? Do i have to have unsecure kernel?
Edit: i know the answer for first one... Yes how about second?

Yes, that is how it's supposed to look. The 08 is the command setting and the rest is your encoded IMEI.

Yes it works on ATT also. No you do not need insecure kernel, it will work on a stock phone.

It will work if I'm rooted also?

Wait, you guys found the IMEI? I haven't been following.

I backed up and I was using FreeGSM R5. Backed up and re-wrote, lost service but it came back after a reboot. Great find! Now don't have to worry about ever losing my IMEI.

Does this mean we need no longer be afraid to flash to our hearts content?
Sent from my SGH-T999

This is great, thanks! IMEI backed up and written back to check :nervewrecking:
Took a reboot to get service after writing it back, just to let people know
Donations sent, go buy a beer!

Quick Q, do you HAVE to write the backup to the phone?

No, I was just demonstrating the write feature.

Super simple, thanks! Can't believe that this IMEI issue plagued us and then all of a sudden peoplesarmy figured it out and you immediately released this super simple version. Thanks! Now to install CM10...

Whew, safe to flash again! Great work!

WOW! This just got even easier! Un-Freakin' - believable, how easy you've made this "Mr. Geek! I just wrote it three times just for practice, and because I was kinda havin' fun for a second there, lol! You guys are so amazing. Thank you so much for all of your hard work on this! Now I've got mine backed up both ways, but with this file saved to my pc, it's so fast to do. I dare somebody to wipe my imei, lmao!
Seriously Geek, you've saved alot of ppl alot of trouble & cash & that's great. You and Peoplearmy both put in alot of work to help so many ppl who couldn't have done it without you, and it's selfless acts of kindness like this that make xda such a fun community! I'll be holding onto my gs3 forever, and I'm really looking forward to learning from fellas like yourself & Peoplearmy!

Tips
recommended (but not needed) - format your sdcard with a sdcard formatter, like this one: http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/sd/download/index.html
To boot on CWM, turn the phone on, let the power button pressed for 10s, choose "Boot AD SD", CWM will start
It's recommended to wipe data and cache using CWM
First boot might be long, next will be less than 30 seconds
Space available for EU_LEO 200mb+ (need confirmation)
Robot voice - known issue - first call, turn speaker on, turn off speaker, end call. no more robot voice. if you do have robot voice again, repeat the process.
Or turn off audible touch tones
CAUTION: when restoring with CWM do NOT restore system or boot, just restore data and/or cache. If you restore system and boot you're are reverting to the previous version (rom and kernel). Go into advance restore - pick your restore point - choose data. If you want to restore extra user Apps i recommend using mybackup or titanium backup
If you have app2sd backup it as well.

[APP] EFS Backup for Galaxy Nexus

Hi,
Here is a simple app to backup a copy of your EFS in .img format to your /sdcard folder. While it is not checked during runtime, root is required.
It's fairly basic at the moment, this being my first Android app
Hope I can improve on this while I pick up more stuff about Android programming.
Special thanks to silow whom I learnt the commands for Galaxy Nexus EFS backup.
Useful application! But you definitely need to replace that black screen when app is making the backup many will tend to close the application believing that this is not working!
So if you use this now wait 3-4 minutes and will announce when backup is done!
And definitely you need to add the Restore EFS from backup option!
EDIT!
Will be something like kTool for GN!
We need this!Good work and good luck!
In market?

That's strange, you mean it doesn't display a progress dialog with a spinner for you?
Restore is easy to add but testing if it works is a bit tricky
Nop no progress dialog with a spinner (tried 3 times)! Just black screen and then Backup done! Will reinstall and try again later!
EDIT!
Installed again and now it display a progress dialog with a spinner! Strange!
I get a pop up /w spinner for what it's worth.

/esf is a very important partition that isn't backed up by nandroids(I think) that contains your IMEI (or the cmda version) and if lost/corrupted is very bad indeed

In what situation could this ever happen?
Not sure about the gnex, but on the i9100 it can happen randomly with a rom flash (rarely). Independent of rom or quality thereof.

Interesting, I've flashed many a ROM, mostly on HTC devices, and never had this issue. Is it a Samsung thing?
HTC, on the other hand, seems to have a knack for killing the MISC partition
I've also had an HTC (Desire), and never knew about this EFS partition (nor did I have any issues).
I am wondering though, if it does get corrupted, and we have a backup, can we restore the .img using Fastboot if we're unable to get back into Android to use this app to restore?

So it's not really necessary, but Samsung went ahead and put it on there anyway, making sure that if it's modified/overwritten/corrupted the phone will become a paperweight?

Phones still do boot with corrupted /efs, but you will have a generic IMEI and stuff probably won't work
Sent from my ice cream powered Nexus S
So the question again: Why did Samsung put this somewhere where it can be so easily overwritten/corrupted/broken?

Imei simple fix!!!

Guys,
Here is a working EFS folder which you would put in your root to replace your old non working EFS file which has your IMEI.. Simple copy your origal EFS folder to your desktop and place my EFS folder in your root.... Vuala your 4G is back and no more edge.....
Only tested on T-Mobile....
I'm not responsible for any bricks or issues..... You've been warned!!!!!

I would say yes, but more importantly, if it really does work, then all of us can just backup our own EFS folder
I read that the EFS folder does not contain the IMEI, but what the hell, might as well backup that folder on my external SD (done..)
Just in case there's something to it.
Well I'm not a pro at this, is their a problem sharing my IMEI? Would that cause me issues?
What I do know is that you can back up your working EFS folder and if you ever loose your IMEI just copy back that folder and your good...

Unfortunately that seems to not be the case with the Galaxy S3.. read up on the "lost IMEI" threads

Jarule51082 thanks for the files, I haven't tried yet because I don't know if its safe to put your folder in place of mine, hoping someone can confirm if it is or isn't.

i tried and it doesn't work for me.
the problem with my phone is when i paste my efs folder to the root of the phone. when if reset or reboot my phone my the permission change.
the redata.bin files permission change from "rw-rw-r--" to "rw-r--r--"
i can manually change the permission back to rw-rw-r-- but when i reboot the phone it keep changing back to rw-r--r-- no matter what.
i try to do a fix permission but it won't lets me
I'll see if one of my friends can let me borrow their S3 so u can I try it on theirs.. It should be.... What you can do is back up your current EFS folder on your External and replace it with mine and see if it works... The phone boots up with the EFS deleted completely so it should be no problem putting another working EFS folder in there.... Just saying... But your welcome bro no problem..
My BEAST!!
Liquid you did take your other EFS folder out completely right? It didn't just make a other like efs1 or something like that?
Just a thought if it worked for anyone let me know if it didn't ill take it down.. It worked for me flawlessly but it might be limited to its own devise... So if more do test keep us in the loop... Thanks

Look, aside from my reservations that you might be doing something malicious, even if your intentions are good what you're suggesting is based on what you THINK, and all data posted on the subject so far says that you're wrong. I'm talking about data from experienced users and devs that have worked on this issue specifically for weeks/months.
Maybe you're a good guy who just isn't that wise, but the only thing people could do that would be fairly safe (barring any permanent loss of their own IMEI that could happen) would be to copy their OWN IMEI, and test things with that.
There are too many risks both to you and the person who uses your IMEI.

Guys,
What Ingen said is true you can use this method and back up your own IMEI so if you ever loose it just put the EFS file back in and you'll be good.... I apologize if my IMEI did not work for the ones who lost it...... Thanks again guys....

Is it compatible with Nook Touch Mod Manager?
Wysłane z mojego GT-I5700 za pomocą Tapatalk 2
domi.nos,
Yes, it does. In fact, it doesn't make any affect on NTMM since these mods touches a different jar files.
Is it incompatible with Google Market (e.g. does it bundle the TelephonyManager patches to get the market working)?
tried with 1.2.1 and 1.1.2, they both working good. thanks^^
I really like the reboot feature, but for me, the recovery feature is just too risky. For example, what if I want to reboot but accidentally hit Recovery instead? Boom, Nook is gone.
Is there an easy way to create an alternate version without recovery? And if so, would you make it for me?
EDIT - Just found a great workaround!
If you follow the instructions here for installing the ClockworkMod recovery on the NST/NSTG (not just booting from SD card), then hitting "Recovery" won't insta-wipe your data - instead, it will do what it should do, which is boot into ClockworkMod recovery!
Awesome! The only thing I think would make it more awesome is to add a screenshot button like on CM7. I currently use DroCap, but it would be nice to have something integrated into the system?

i wish i had known this a few months ago.. i wouldn't have trashed my nook
i couldn't even post a beware for others, as i didn't have enough post count here
so i put it up on my blog http://nixventure.blogspot.com/2014/07/mod-extended-power-menu.html
as i couldn't reply to this thread in the xda dev forum, i am posting this here and hoping this might be useful to the developer and/or any users.
as the developer says, i found additional buttons for "Reboot" and "Recovery". i wanted to test the "Recovery" button, hoping to end up in the recovery mode. but the recovery button rebooted my nook, wiped data, performed a factory reset, and restored my original rom instead - all with no warnings or confirmations! so, i have now ended up with a pristine nook, as purchased - all mods lost, including root, etc.

Hey Thank you so much.
Its always good to have organic solutions such as this.
After the Lock Screen activation invoked organically
this app should give the same organic feel. I agree with yattaro on the screenshot option.
If that can be added then this utility will be complete.
Now that i have CWM recovery installed to my device, this seems safe to install.
Keep up the good work, cant describe how much value these little tiny things bring to the whole Nook experience.
PS: i can't find renate's temblast reader(i have only her Library app) on her list of uploads, Can somebody upload one for me. want to give it a try.

among4239bulan Thank You so much , i'll try Tonight
I need help as well, I have my original IMEI and i flashed the XXDME4 modem, but my phone just won't register on any network. My original IMEI shows in system status, and if i try to manually register on the network it just times out, and says try again later, any help would be appreciated.

did you make efs backup before you lost your imei? i think it will only work if you have the backup in the first place.

I might've said it wrong, but i had the original IMEI in the first place before i flashed the modem, and it would not work at all. But i have now flashed the new modem, but it just wont register now to the network.
well, im not sure if i understand what you meant anyhow, what was your modem before you flash the new one? was it working and able to connect and regster to network? if you made nandroid backup before flashing, restore it.

I dont remember exactly, this is my friends old phone, but it wouldve been a build eariler this year, I went outside after flashing a custom rom with the latest build, and ive noticed it says there is no signal at all, It seems to me like even a nandroid backup wont even fix this, its being really weird :'(
