Hello everyone, I'm VERY new to coding and developing for Android. I do plan on learning javascript all the way through so I can contribute more to the community.
But for right now I've been making GO Launcher EX themes in a program that compiles the code for you so I've just been adding the images pretty much. But to push market updates you have to add something to the code; what would I need in order to change the code?
Thanks for all your help, and sorry for the n00b question! D:

I have been trying to copy some of the features of the original HTC Froyo rom to a new Gingerbread rom (DevNull) using Android Kitchen running in a Cwgwin box. While I can swap some apk's in and out, other apk's like contacts and dialler will only work in their correct version. Is there a way around this ? or is it a fundamental impasse? Any pointers to where I can read up on this stuff gratefully received.
No, they use totally different frameworks. If it was easy let attitude even possible at all, don't you think some of the "real" devs would have done it already?

Am I allowed to incorporate an application that is freely available to the public in the android market and many other places into a ROM that could be distributed to users on XDA with no permission from the original developer? My reason for asking is I have no way to contact TIMO KUJALA to ask for permission, but the application is free. If anyone knows how to contact this application developer, post or PM me with the response. I am trying to build a fairly stripped ROM with Launcher 7 as the main home screen launcher. Any help is much appreciated and will be thanked.
Don't see what it would hurt I've downloaded a few roms with apps from the market pre installed

I just wanted to know if there was a website that would help noobs like me get started on developing, or to download the right tools so that I can atleast try to learn something. Thanks in advance : )
A great place to start is the uot kitchen. Try some theming there, status bar mods are really fun and easy. Same with changing the battery display.

Check out this thread. It's a great guide for beginners.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1272270
Also check out the rest of the Chef Central/Android subforum. Great information there for those looking to cook up modded stock roms and AOSP roms from source, both.
So, the title says it all. I want to learn theming, and hopefully release a theme for cm9 theme chooser. Where should I start? Which apktool version is best for this?
Sorry if this have been asked before. Did a quick search, but didn't find anything really helpfull..
Any help is appreciated!
There is a guide in the general theme section.

Would love if anyone could, or knows where I could, find a way to get multi-window on CyanogenMod
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
I don't think its possible at the moment because multi window is based on touchwiz framework not aosp framework. It would have to be modified or written directly for aosp

Your request is better sent to CyanogenMod forums where there developers will see it.
It's not twiz specific its in the core frameworks not tw-frameworks. LG has multiview on the optimus g and theres supposed to be an update for the nextus 4 with a MW type feature. Hell the Optimus G is using multi view on 4.0.4 not even on JB yet. Its just a matter of activating the feature and then coding a UI for it
For now your best bet would be using cornerstone by onskreen. You can pull the files from their GIT and then compile it using the s3 toolchains and it should then function on install. However I'm not sure if the cornerstone code needs to be added to the rom source before compiling or if you can just compile the app and sideload it into am exisiting rom. I'll know more later this week after I add it into a build im working on.
I like to break stuff!

I'd like to know where you read about this "update" for the Nexus 4.

Saw it in some google article way back when 4.2 and the nexus 4 were coming out, they said a future update would contain multitasking capabilities in multiple apps at once. Onskreen has deals with qualcomm and other companies "to be announced" and have now opensourced all of their code so I'm starting to think they may be incorporating cornerstone into a future android release.

Everything's there. Dianne hackborn pushed the files her self in 4.2 it's all low level, but the frameworks there.
CM played with the idea, cornerstone as evil mentioned above. and were basically threatened by Google. So that feature is out of cm the way of photosphere
To the guy asking where evil read about the update, I can do ya one better.
Here's the actual commits into android framework base.
