Would love if anyone could, or knows where I could, find a way to get multi-window on CyanogenMod
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
I don't think its possible at the moment because multi window is based on touchwiz framework not aosp framework. It would have to be modified or written directly for aosp
Sent from my Nexus 7
Your request is better sent to CyanogenMod forums where there developers will see it.
It's not twiz specific its in the core frameworks not tw-frameworks. LG has multiview on the optimus g and theres supposed to be an update for the nextus 4 with a MW type feature. Hell the Optimus G is using multi view on 4.0.4 not even on JB yet. Its just a matter of activating the feature and then coding a UI for it
For now your best bet would be using cornerstone by onskreen. You can pull the files from their GIT and then compile it using the s3 toolchains and it should then function on install. However I'm not sure if the cornerstone code needs to be added to the rom source before compiling or if you can just compile the app and sideload it into am exisiting rom. I'll know more later this week after I add it into a build im working on.

Saw it in some google article way back when 4.2 and the nexus 4 were coming out, they said a future update would contain multitasking capabilities in multiple apps at once. Onskreen has deals with qualcomm and other companies "to be announced" and have now opensourced all of their code so I'm starting to think they may be incorporating cornerstone into a future android release.
I like to break stuff!
Everything's there. Dianne hackborn pushed the files her self in 4.2 it's all low level, but the frameworks there.
CM played with the idea, cornerstone as evil mentioned above. and were basically threatened by Google. So that feature is out of cm the way of photosphere
To the guy asking where evil read about the update, I can do ya one better.
Here's the actual commits into android framework base.

The OG is marketed to have some unique features and does have some LG custom software:
Miracast
QuickMemo
Dual Screen Dual Play
Live Zoom[ing]
QSlide
SmartShare
Application Manger
Backup (Restore Schedule)
Calendar (Split View)
Car Home
File Share (Over WiFi)
LG Tag+
...
First of all, are any of these good? I have my own personal opinions, but I am curious what yours are.
I hate their crappy Swype knockoff.
Secondly, would these features even work on a CM or other mod?
Some of these are just apks, so I might expect them to work.
But some of them seem like more than just an apk, and would need custom support from the OS.
Do any of these LG features that are missing from CM have a quality alternative?
They will not work on cm because they depend on LG's framework. The apps are okay. Nothing I can't live without. They could potentially be ported or cloned but you can't just throw the apk in.

Since there are 2 res.apks in framework, do you think if we were to include the lge-res.apk some might work?
I'm assuming it isn't that simple.

Doubt it. We would have to remove the framework dependencies and add all needed files to the apk itself.

Damn, I really enjoy QuickMemo and Q Slide and wanted to see those features kept and in the case of Q Slide, expanded upon for use with any app . Maybe someday, I can dream!
Agreed.
I think there might be a chance that QuickMemo can still be added to a CM install.
The APK is attached to this thread:

There's a possibility, if I can find out how to implement it. It's different from stock ROM to implement it. Also, not sure but I think the tethering hack is just an illusion, I can't find any surefire evidence that it works. I was never told by T-Mobile to begin with I needed to purchase tethering when I used any tethering apps, or CM, AOKP native tethering, and I highly doubt a firmware hack is going to bypass a server-side cap.
Just decompiled framework-res.apk, the settings are different from TouchWiz here on AOKP. So no, the mod cannot be implemented.

The reason I bought my Nexus 4 is to forget about flashing custom roms and stuff! I like to use stock and rooted, but I notice that all themes are only compatible with cm 10.1 or AOKP roms, so my question is if there is a way to theme the stock rom framework the way u can in cm10.1 or AOKP? Thanks
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Yes, it's possible. You can pull the appropriate files and decompile, theme, recompile, sign, then push it back to the phone (that will require a lot of patience and technical ability). You can also try using ZipThemer, but I haven't found any compatible ZipThemer themes in the N4 forums -- in fact, I'm not even sure tgat ZipThemer is compatible.
But the easiest way would undoubtedly be to flash a ROM with Theme Chooser capabilities and pick from the almost-thousand themes available.
Btw, is it okay if I ask why you don't plan to customise the s**t out of your N4? Personally, the only reason I bought the Nexus is because of the immense dev support, and also to teach myself a bit of programming and modding along the way.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
You could flash a deodexed stock ROM, then you'll have a very theme-able "stock framework".
Yeah but the thing is that when I start flashing roms then it's like an illness that I can't stop, I lost so much time on my galaxy s3 flashing roms tweaking and modding, man it just gets crazy! Also the update to 4.2.2 it's coming soon so I wanna stay on stock rom to get it as soon as it comes out!

I'm wanting to flash rasbeanjelly due to its amazing theme but I'm happy on stock so check that ROM out its pretty stock but the theme is really nice

Hi guys,
I saw the MIUI team have ported there ROM and kept all the Touchwiz features such as the SPEN while still adding all the MIUI customisation options by using a Touchwiz Base. I was wondering if this would be possible with CM10? Or AOKP? Well, something AOSP based. I know there are look a likes but to be honest none really are all that great in my opinion. CM10/.1 has SOOOO many awesome features. The themes chooser sor instants.
I think this would be insane. Im not a developer, but i'd be willing to do everything I can to make this possible! - If it is possible ...
So anyone up for it?
Cheers
that MIUI was based on TW ... no S features will be ever available on AOSP
I don't think it's as straightforward as the Samsung framework enables those features like split-window and Samsung-specific apps. Having said that, there are third-party options to enable some of the functionality. Note that even in default CM10.1, S-Pen itself works fine, air hover, button, and so on.

Because the whole point of CM is being AOSP+ more features.

Cm10.1 is 4.2.1 based
Miui is 4.1.2 that too tw based.
First of all s pen functions require libraries which aren't cross compatible.
So the libraries can't be used with 4.2.1
There is no cm10 for note 2.
Only Cm10.1

Right, so why isn't it possible to make a Cm10, touchwiz 4.1.2 based rom if its been done with MIUI?

And?
Miui is touchwiz based.
If you remove touchwiz framework you get cm. Not to mention you will add Google framework.
But without touchwiz framework snote libs won't work.
So no s note.
Cm 10 is nothing but Google framework based rom to be accurate. It doesn't means cm team didn't so much. I am saying in context to this thread.
Either Google framework or Samsung framework.
That is either no s note or s note.
Miui is samsung based.
Other than thar Samsung based rom might be themed enough to look like cm10 but it isn't aosp.
It would require super expert level modding or samsung or google level devs to do that.
Samsung devs know best how they work.
So they are probably the one who can do that.

I'm in the process of theming and editing off a cm base but i wanna keep the TouchWiz apps. (SVoice, Allshare, Notes etc.) Where can i get these to put on the latest CM? Thanks in advance
You can pull them from the /system/app and /data/app folders of any TW rom zip. But even if you pull them, it wont work on any AOSP rom since they rely on the proprietary Touchwiz framework of a stock/stock-based rom.
The only exception is S Voice, which will work but be a little buggy and FC sometimes.
So is it possible to port them over at all?

It is possible, but it would require a great deal of knowledge of the framework and tons of smali edits to make it happen. And thats per app, mind you

There are 3rd party replacements for most of the TW apps. If you look in the OP or 2P of the CM10/10.1 thread either here or the sprint note 2 forums you'll see some of the top choices for replacements.
