[Q] Making ROM Questions - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been trying to copy some of the features of the original HTC Froyo rom to a new Gingerbread rom (DevNull) using Android Kitchen running in a Cwgwin box. While I can swap some apk's in and out, other apk's like contacts and dialler will only work in their correct version. Is there a way around this ? or is it a fundamental impasse? Any pointers to where I can read up on this stuff gratefully received.

No, they use totally different frameworks. If it was easy let attitude even possible at all, don't you think some of the "real" devs would have done it already?

I have been looking around the forums for a while now and if anyone knows where i can find such a ROM that fits the fallowing:
- Official release of Froyo 2.2

Thats about it, if anyone knows of a ROM that fits the previously stated criteria. I would greatly appreciate it.

CM6 is the ONLY ROM without Sense right now.
Can't you just download launcher pro from the market? What about adw launcher? Root your phone and delete the bloat. A lot of stuff can be deleted manually. Message enomther and see if he will port his nexus Rom to evo. It is a great Rom.

There is a Senseless Froyo-Fusion out, but I haven't tried it.
I personally tossed around the idea of a stripped down ROM, but like 2.1 can't get the AOSP dialer working, and the AOSP calendar had some wierd issues.
I know of at least one more established ROM dev that is currently working on a 2.2 version with sense stuff stripped out. I'm guessing we will see it in the next few days.
But other than CM, none of these are true sense-removed roms. They still are Sense at the core (framework level) but have AOSP apps in place of sense apps, and a different launcher. If you want a true AOSP, CM is the only one, and I'm pretty sure for other phones most AOSP builds are based off CM.

''Help'' HTC HUB

Hey guys, does any 1 knows where can i find the app htc hub so i can install it on my T-Mobile G2 ?
Try taking it from system/app from one of the SENSE roms. But it may not install as it might require more than just the app, ie HTC libs. Worth a try though.

You won't be able to get it to work on a ROM without Sense built-in, sorry. You'd need the whole Sense framework. So if you really want it you'll need to flash a Sense-based ROM.
Not sure that you're really missing much though ?

New GB Sense with 2.1 added

Is it possible to have the new GB release with Sense 2.1 added and all of the unecessary HTC bloatware removed? I for one do not like the new Sense 3 lockscreen but like some of the additional funcrionality of 2.1.
Can anyone advise if this is possible and if so how?
Thanks

Just look at the android development thread... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124810
Thanks for that but these roms still have much of the HTC bloatware remaining. Guess I'm going to have to learn how to bake!

Before flashing, delete htc's apps you do not want from /system/app. But be careful, you do not delete so much that your phone does not start anymore.
Rom editor in the general section can remove the apps too if you don't feel comfortable editing the zip directly

You could just switch to a Desire HD ROM. Plenty of them in the development section.
Don't know if there's a way of porting just the camera app.

I know but the thing is i dont want to risk ruining my phone totally by rooting it and etc. Since if i tried i probably would mess it all up. But i may consider trying it maybe then.
Rooting your phone is daunting at first but trust me its a lot easier than you think. Plus its the only way you would be able to make the changes you want. Check out this link, its very helpful for new members

It all looks very complicated, but i think i should be able to follow it! When you root the phone do you still get like all the normal android stuff? Market and etc? I know thats probably a stupid question but i really know nothing about rooting phones. Also do you get the like HTC Apps, Eg "Facebook For HTC Sense" and etc?
Rooting your phone doesn't change anything other than giving you access to the root directory in your handset, which is required in order to flash a custom rom. Then its up to you to choose a rom that suits your needs. Have a browse of the roms that are available. make sure you choose a sense based rom if you're looking for sense apps. I personally prefer aosp roms as they're based on the pure android releases and I find the sense roms to be a bit laggy. Currently using cyanogenmod 7.1 and its awesome, fast and stable! Keep in mind that facebook, gmail etc are still available on the aosp roms, you don't need sense for those

Ive managed to successfully route my phone and added a custom ROM to. I added the CoolSense one . However now i have Hardly any memory on my memory card now :/. I only have 500MB free. And thats without my pictures, apps and etc :/. If i were to get a new SD card. How would i go about getting all the ROMs and that to the new SD card. Or would i have to do it all over again?
With the new method called revoluitonary the rooting process could not be easier:

LeeDroid HD is a direct port from Desire HD to Desire. If you flash this rom, your phone will have all the software features of Desire HD, including the camera app.
Just remember that Desire HD has 8MP camera and more RAM, so it will always capture better pics and function more smoothly.

[Q] ICS and GB ROM with sense UI ?

Hi,
Recently i found this on XDA, I request all the Devs to have a look at this. Will this help in creating and porting new Roms to our device more easily? It said sense UI can also be tweaked, so is there any chance we can get Gingerbread or ICS with sense UI using this tool ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619473
Thanks,
Arun
I don't think the problem lies in de/recompiling the .apks, the problem comes with not knowing what to change/edit.
This tool will help anybody with the actual editing of the .apks but its like looking for a needle in a haystack trying to find the right pieces to edit.
