Is this HTC Desire S of mine legit? - Desire General

Hi,
New to HTC and Android, but just wanted to get your opinion on something.
I got an unlocked HTC Desire S from a Chinese (Hong Kong) supplier via a local middleman. It had all kinds of Chinese bloatware on it, and so I decided to flash a new rom. When I went into About phone > Phone identity to write everything down before flashing, I noticed it has a strange 'Device serial number' of 123456789012. That looks kind of strange. On the box sticker and on the sticker in the battery compartment of the phone, what I see is "S/N: SH1CATJxxxxx". Is there anything fishy going on there?
The default Android 2.3.3 OS seems all right. It has what looks like a default HTC startup splash screen (though I don't know if that makes a difference). I did notice that there wasn't a Power settings entry in settings to change fastboot. I had to pull out the battery to get to the boot screen. Don't know if that's a big deal either. I also noticed it was S-Off to begin with when I installed root.
Does this all seem strange, legit, clone-ish?
Would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

Perhaps people in the HTC desire S forum would be able to help you better. Many of us may never have seen a HTC desire S so we cannot tell you what is legit or not.

Ok. Thanks. Didn't see the Desire S forum down there at first.

[Q] Dutch to English

Hi...some advice please. Tomorrow I will pick up an HTC Desire (unlocked) from my provider here in Holland. The issue is that I am English.....and ASAP I will need to change the Android 2.1 Dutch into a WWE system. I have flashed my previous HTCs but want some advice on Flashing this phone.
Question 1) Which flash do you recommend I download from this site (there seem to be loads of std WWE files?
Question 2) Anything to be careful with?
Question 3) I have downloaded Unrevoked3 software....is this what I should use for an unlocked phone?
Many thanks in advance for the answers.
Trafford
Is it coming from a Dutch operator? If not, when you first turn it on it'll ask your language...
Yes its a Dutch operator and a Dutch Operating system. Thats why I need WWE. I cannot read Dutch and all alerts etc will be dutch even if by selecting English will give some things in English....been there 4 times now with previous HTC phones in Holland.
Im dutch too i can help you
Just ask te seller to set the language to english?

The T-Mobile shop said it was only available in Dutch so I took their word for it. It arrives tomorrow so I will see if thats all thats needed. My experience from before is that this is not the answer. Your ROM is NLD and I need WWE
Trafford, I work in a T-Mobile store and today I sold a Samsung Galaxy which I turned to English for a customer. The day before yesterday I sold another android phone and turned it to Chinese... I don't think you need to change the ROM just for the language... Also in my memory, I was able to change the T-Mobile HTC Desire to English without any problems or Dutch pop-ups. Can't check it though, rooted and customized a while ago.
That sounds great Sjraar. The T-Mobile guy asked and was told it was Dutch....so of course I decided to check for a new ROM. He also said it was unlocked. Does that mean it is Rooted or unrooted?? or is locking and rooting unconnected?

If you work in a phone store, you should know that it depends from where your company imports the phones.. when they're smart, they buy wwe because it can be cheaper.
I hope it is WWE it will save some hassle. By the way.....He also said it was unlocked. Does that mean it is Rooted or unrooted?? or is locking and rooting unconnected?
I'm not completely sure, but I think they bought WWE versions and then put a small T-Mobile branding over it. There's no sign of web 'n walk logo's and stuff. Just the bootscreen was T-Mobile, but when I flashed a diffrent ROM, that went away...

It's unlocked to any network, but it's still unrooted, so that you need to do. I used the UnRevoked option, but check whether the phone has an SLCD or AMOLED. Read something somethere that you need to be careful with that, and even though it states on the box that the phone has an AMOLED screen, it might be a SLCD. HTC hasn't yet changed the boxes...
Well I guess I will see tomorrow if they get it as promised. Thanks for your replies everyone. I was thinking of flashing to Android 2.2 .....what do you think?
When we checked the spec on the computer in the shop it said Amoled, that was my reason for having the desire instead of the HD2 which he had in stock but Windows 6.5 and no AMOLED so I went for the desire. I better check that too....how will I know the difference?

After hearing that HTC will officially switch to Super LCD screens from AMOLED back in July due to AMOLED display panel shortages on Samsung's side, we now got to a point where new HTC Desire devices hit the market from the new production batch sporting SLCD screens. If you want to make sure your device has a SLCD screen, read below for a few hints:
1. Check the box your Desire came with at the section Display: if it states "3.7 inch AMOLED touch-sensitive screen" then you've got an AMOLED display but if it says "3.7-inch touch-sensitive screen" then you've got an SLCD display.

[Q] HTD Desire - little problems

hello. my english isn't good, but i'll try to explain my problems. maybe will be some help with this.
i buyed my desire 2-3 months ago. was new, without branding, with guarantee.
i have a bad pixel (or hot pixel...). it's only one and it's not so big problem for me, but can i do something with this? someone gave me a link to special webside (fast displayed colors), but i don't know - it can help, or not.
when i will send a phone to htc (or someone special with guarantee from htc), do they change lcd? (or phone?)
how long can be that?
i had a problem with a back "cover" (i'm not sure the name of this in english)
in upper right wasn't 100% correct with phone (sometimes i had to push harder this place, and then was "click" and was ok. but later again the same :/).
but i maked this little thing (this hold "cover" on a phone) warmer with a light and i bend this a little. its better, but look not so nice like original :/.
but what with this first case? do this special website can help? (they (who send mi this website) said - 5-6 hours with wthis website on, and maybe will be better).
and i have one question by the way.
will we have a official 2.3 android? i heard - it's small chance, to have official gingerbeard on desire.
i don't have a root and i don't wanna play with custom rom's.
i prefer official htc soft. is it a chance to gingerbeard?
thanks for help.
Try pixel checker from market. If I remember correctly a company only changes lcd if there are at least 3 dead pixels. Your's might just be stuck.
I don't think desire will see official GB, but AdamG. Is doing an incredible work. But you need root to use it.

Stuck on HTC Logo Screen - No updates etc

I haven't used my Desire for 6 months or so and left it in the box with battery inside. (I must admit, I bought an iPhone ) Now, my wife wanted to have the desire and I thought I should set it up for her. However, after a bit of a charge, I started it but it is stuck on the HTC Logo screen and doesn't go any further. Taken battery out then in, taken sim and SD card out. also tried hard reset through volume button and wiped storage, but it still doesn't go beyond the boot screen. I had original Orange shipped rom. I did not do any rom upgrade or any unlocking/debranding etc. What I don't understand is that without any software update, howcome I have bricked the phone? Is it somehting to do with the battery, can dead battery behave like this.? What can go wrong while phone was in the box uncharged for six months???
As I cannot make a goldcard now as unable to start the desire beyond HTC logo, I cannot root this phone. I guess only option I have is to re-flash the phone through SD card. But this requires an image of Orange stock original rom in .zip format. Can someone help? point me towards a link where I can download original Orange UK Rom? I have tried everywhere, cant find anything. Anyone has dumped his original orange rom image before rooting and installing custom rom? can you forward the original rom image to me please??
Edit...
Can't you return it to Orange / HTC if its conpletely stock?
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Yeah, as it was stock rom and nothing changed, less than 12 months old, therefore contacted Orange today. They said as there is no Orange Care plan taken on this phone, Orange covers only first six months of warranty. However, the manufacturer should cover whole 12 months. So the Orange CS contacted HTC and asked me to speak to them. HTC has arranged to collect my phone tomorrow and they will either fix it or replace it.
Orange CS was saying that if I start an orange care plan on this account today then they can arrange a replacement in 24 hours. But I thought I would try with the HTC first and get it fixed/ replaced without any cost.
Fingers crossed.

2nd Hand Desire Reboots with SIM in

I purchased a 2nd hand desire from ebay a couple days ago and it came today, apparently the phone was only used a few times so is 'as new'. I've come to boot it up and it constantly reboots with my SIM card in, doesn't even get past the HTC Boot screen.
If I take the SIM out it boots fine. I've spent a while searching through similiar issues but can't actually find anything concrete as to what to do. I'm not sure if it's been rooted previously and am wondering if I should just send it back and purchase another one from elsewhere?
Any advice?
K
Boot it without the SIM card and go to Settings>About phone>Software information and post up the Software version
Might need to reflash the stock FW on it to make sure it's working properly
Can you identify whether they have flashed it from this too?
Not really bothered so long as I can get it to work but don't want to risk doing something that will give them every reason to tell me to bugger off

Pretty sure that's the stock Orange UK FW, which would suggest you have an AMOLED screen as well
In which case, it'll be locked to Orange and you'll need an unlock code to use another network but wouldn't explain the reboots with a SIM card in it
The seller has already unlocked it, she used it with Vodafone as far as I'm aware and said it worked perfectly fine.
You reckon my best bet is to send it back? It's listed as no returns but its my impression that they have a duty to ensure it's in 'as described' condition and it clearly isn't in full working order.
I reckon so, if it's not working then they have to refund your money. Perhaps try another SIM card to rule it out but other than flashing a new ROM there's no way of knowing what's wrong
Just tried my friends SIM, who is also TMob. Got a bit further for him but crashed before getting to the Home Screen again. Tried mine and it gets to the same point before a restart.
Think I may just buy one brand new, this 2nd hand experience really isn't doing me any good!
When you say the Orange has an AMOLED, should I assume the unbranded handsets don't? That kinda sucks as it was on of the reasons I wanted the Desire.
New units won't, no - they'll be SLCD
Now this is weird! When I got home I decided to try using an o2 sim I have lying around. It booted fine. Swapped it with my Tmob and it booted fine too.
Did a factory reset, tried it with the Tmob and it reboot looped, put the o2 sim in and it reboot looped with that too! Figured the only thing I'd done differently was the battery has been disconnected for the past hour or so, tried leaving it out for 5 minutes and lo and behold it booted fine with the Tmob sim.
Had to put in the APN settings for internet but otherwise it seems to be working perfectly fine now!
Undecided on whether I should send it back or not now, it's working but could it be buggy because of the issues I've been having... Why are these things never simple!
It's going back..... went back to the reboot loop as soon as I powered it off and on again. Can't be doing with it. Going to buy me a new one and hopefully won't have these problems.
Best thing IMO, shame though as it's a good phone
If you're buying new might as well get the Desire S as it's out now SIM-free
I did consider that but I'm really not a fan of capacitive buttons at the bottom of the screen as I constantly hit them on accident. Think I'll just get myself a Desire from Amazon for £300 and stick with that for the next year atleast.
This actually sounds like this Desire is having the famous bootloops. It's faulty hardware.

I'd have said keep it, then root it and load a custom rom

[Q] Having a few problems.

Hello guys,
My HTC One X is only two months old but I'm having a few problems with it since it has been a month old. Maybe even a week or two.
My first problem is that my HOX doesn't detect my earphones/headphones anymore. When I plug them in and play music, the music stays playing through the speaker. It doesn't matter how I turn or bend the jack a little bit, it keeps playing through the speaker. Nor does it display the earphones symbol in my statusbar at the top. Is this a software problem? Or a hardware problem?
My second problem is that when my screen sometimes doesn't react when I press the Power button, like it doesn't turn on when I press it. When I touch the screen, it sometimes vibrate though, like in it's working without any display (sometimes the buttons below the screen light up, but the screen doesn't. Sometimes both don't light up). Another problem is that my screen sometimes changes from color, like pixels becoming red or green or so; or my screen starts to act up, sometimes my screen zooms in a lot, sometimes it just start to go from up to down, like really from the top and the bottom, or sometimes it just acts up a lot like the parts of my screen go stand through eachother.
My HTC One X has the following specifications:
Android-version: 4.0.4
HTC Sense-version: 4.1
Softwarenumber: 2.17.401.2
HTC SDK API-niveau: 4.23
HTC expansionversion: HTCExtension_403_1_GA_20
Kernel-version: 2.6.39.4-g090b42e
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT
Smalbandversion: 2.1204.135.20
Build-number: 2.17.401.2 CL89015 release-keys
Browserversion: WebKit/534.30
I already talked to the HTC Live Chat, they told me to boot my HOX in Safe Mode and I also performed a hard reset, none of those things worked. My HOX is still original, I didn't change anything, just bought it from the store called Vandenborre in Belgium. Also, my provider is Proximus, also located in Belgium.
Will this be fixed with Android Jelly Bean and HTC Sense 4.5? Or what causes this?
Greetings,
Digifais.
Sounds like hardware problems to me.. i dint think jelly bean will fix this.
Did you test other earpieces?
Why not just return the phone and ask for another one?

Had it been, on a custom rom, i would've said software issues, as some kernels and custom roms, just fail with some system elements. This is not the case, this is on a stock rom...confusing...
Your best bet is to send it to HTC and see if they can do anything with it, if it's still under warranty, well they don't have much choice... considering it isn't your doing which made it go weird.

Could I bring it to the store where I bought it aswell? I already e-mailed them and they said I should bring it to their store so their technicians can check it out. It's still under warranty because I got 2 years of warranty from the store. Some people said it could of been a model from the first shipment, because they were buggy or something like that.
I also tested other earphones, including the original HTC and one from Sennheiser. Both working in my iPod tho.

Possibly yeah, you should take it back and see what you can do. Yeah there's a way to check when it was built with the serial number in th options tells u the location where it was manufactured to.
For example mine is SH24X there's a method to work it on a thread on it. I can't remember how.
