Stuck on HTC Logo Screen - No updates etc - Desire General

I haven't used my Desire for 6 months or so and left it in the box with battery inside. (I must admit, I bought an iPhone ) Now, my wife wanted to have the desire and I thought I should set it up for her. However, after a bit of a charge, I started it but it is stuck on the HTC Logo screen and doesn't go any further. Taken battery out then in, taken sim and SD card out. also tried hard reset through volume button and wiped storage, but it still doesn't go beyond the boot screen. I had original Orange shipped rom. I did not do any rom upgrade or any unlocking/debranding etc. What I don't understand is that without any software update, howcome I have bricked the phone? Is it somehting to do with the battery, can dead battery behave like this.? What can go wrong while phone was in the box uncharged for six months???

As I cannot make a goldcard now as unable to start the desire beyond HTC logo, I cannot root this phone. I guess only option I have is to re-flash the phone through SD card. But this requires an image of Orange stock original rom in .zip format. Can someone help? point me towards a link where I can download original Orange UK Rom? I have tried everywhere, cant find anything. Anyone has dumped his original orange rom image before rooting and installing custom rom? can you forward the original rom image to me please??

Edit...
Can't you return it to Orange / HTC if its conpletely stock?
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk

Yeah, as it was stock rom and nothing changed, less than 12 months old, therefore contacted Orange today. They said as there is no Orange Care plan taken on this phone, Orange covers only first six months of warranty. However, the manufacturer should cover whole 12 months. So the Orange CS contacted HTC and asked me to speak to them. HTC has arranged to collect my phone tomorrow and they will either fix it or replace it.
Orange CS was saying that if I start an orange care plan on this account today then they can arrange a replacement in 24 hours. But I thought I would try with the HTC first and get it fixed/ replaced without any cost.
Fingers crossed.

[Q] O2 UK Desire 2.1 rebooted its self.

Now its just stuck on the O2 logo boot screen and won't go any further!
I've tried the recovery mode and that just does the same! Is there anyway I can recover from this?!?!? Nothing new has been downloaded, its not rooted (I was going to do though!)
Can I get it working again... any help (and links needed!) would be gratefully appreciated...
Yours, a worried person!
PS if any more info is needed to help, just let me know.
I've had the same thing as this but not write as severe. My unlocked Desire reboots itself when being charged and using navigation. After about 10 minutes of use, it reboots.
I phoned HTC UK who confirmed that this was a known issue. They told me that the solution was to change the main board. They also told me that I should live with it for the time being as they only had 15 boards in stock and so, I may be without a phone for a little while.
BTW mine is running 2.2 and still reboots.

@jfphillips, how did you get froyo 2.2 on your o2 desire 'coz I'm also using o2 HTC desire. Did yours come with froyo or it is rooted.

Mine was doing the same - either try an official RUU (didnt work for me) or try flashing a PB99IMG (worked for me the first time - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747775).
Mine got past the boot screen after i did this, but after a few hours it did the same thing & this time the PB99IMG method failed for me.
Gave mine in for repair today - they told me it would take 2-4 weeks!
@scorror sorry, mine isn't on o2, its on three.co.uk. It was part of their first batch which were unlocked/ unbranded with OTA Froyo a couple of weeks ago.

How old is it? And was it on O2? I've got a feeling a lot are doing this? My friends at work (also O2) is rebooting its self at least 3 times a week for no good reason!
Did they give you a loan phone while yours is in for repaire? Mine is just over 2 months old, I'll be pissing and moaning to get it replaced and not repaired.
Have you tried contacting o2?
PS tried the PB99IMG.zip method, it went all the way through, but failed on the CID check at the end, and just asked for a reboot. Does anyone have a link to an O2 download of the zip and not the Generic HTC one?? Long shot I know...

going to take it into them today and see what they say. If it wasn't branded I reckon I could have recovered it with the PB99IMG... So annoy...

This is the only available RUU for O2 phones:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra..._32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_124865.exe
There's a good chance that this won't install, as most O2 phones seem to have more recent software than this.
But if you haven't rooted or changed your ROM and the phone won't boot or go into recovery it sounds more like a hardware fault.

Well, tried that, and its now totally goosed!!! It started to go through the install of the new (well downgraded image) and then it sat on waiting for bootloader for ages, then said it had lost connection with the phone. I wont even turn on now. I dont get an orange light to say its charging from mains power like I used to do.
It has to be hardware related, as like you say, ots not rooted, it was the same ROM that shipped with the phone, its just, for want of a better word... F*****! Went into an O2 shop this arvo, but it was way too busy so didn't even get chance to see what they could do (exchange/repair) like I keep saying... Soooooo damn annoyed its untrue. 1st phone I've ever had that I couldn't recover in some way...
If you call HTC they will arrange a repair. O2 will just send it off to them anyway.

Was the same up to today, mainly rebooting when charging in the car with GPS on, but rebooted 6 times today when using tinternet at work.
Called HTC who are collecting next Monday to replace mainboard!!!!
Told in will take a few days to a week to do. Will have to use old touch diamond for these few days!!
To add to this:
I downloaded a battey temp monitor, and my Desire turned off in the car on 22oc, 26oc, 28oc & 30oc. It turned off when using normally mainly when HSDPA connection was present, but not always, and temps have been anything up tp 36oc.
More:
Unit was fine for the first month or so, and started after. Rebooting has been present on 2.1 and 2.2, but getting worse (which htc said also)
I did a hard reset earlier today but still the same, if not worse!
Running 2.2 now, phone was from mobiles.co.uk and was one of the first
It runs fine most of the time strangely enough though
well took it into O2 today, on the paper work I got back it said Repair Agent: Anovo UK Repairs. Repair or replace 7-10 working days.
Not sure if the above can't fix it will I just get a refurbished one, or will they send it to HTC to fix.. who knows at this point... who knows...

[Q] Stuck on start up screen. But didn't root

Hi everyone.
Received may phone yesterday. Powered up and did all the wizard stuff (date, time, GMT, etc).
Phone booted into Sense interface. Took a look at some menus and decided to turn off the phone (I was at work and had no time to let it charge). Then the first bug. After trying to power off, the HTC screen froze. Had to take the battery off.
Came home and tried again. Froze on the HTC screen on start up.
Looked for some info on Google and found a lot of people with similar problems. Some answers (including here) pointed to a volume down + power action, followed by a clear storage option.
Did that.
The phone buzzed seven times on HTC screen and froze again.
Tried fastboot, froze.
Tried clear storage again, froze.
What's my option beside that?
All I found is this same procedure.
Tried with and without the SD card. With and without SIM card. With battery, with USB cable, with both...
Always freezing on the HTC screen.
After some minutes on the HTC screen the phone seems a little warm.
I didn't root it, so it had Android 2.1 on it. Didn't change a bit. It's quite difficult to find someone with a problem like this (can't even get to theSense UI) without haven't tried to root.
Any help is really appreciated.
Thanx.
This all points towards hardware failure/production faults so don't even bother with fixing it yourself. Just take it back to the store you bought it or send it to HTC for repair.
Damn, that sux! :/
My first HTC phone.
Never had any problem with my X10 mini. Just wanted a bigger screen.
I don't like Motorola and Samsung Galaxy seems too big.
Have to think now about getting another Desire.
Thanx for the reply.
Out of interest, how long did you wait on the HTC screen? It can take a few minutes to boot on the stock ROM
Some good minutes.
Why buy a new one, this should be under warranty? Did you bought this one second hand?
You cloud try to run a RUU but if it's a new phone I wouldn't bother with because it increased the chance you brick it and lose the warranty.
I bought it on an ebay like site.
I already contacted the seller and she asked me to send it back. But I was hoping I could do something to make it work.
Unfortunately she doesn't have another one to send me. So I'll get a refund for now.
The seller told me she can get another Desire only on February 15th.
I don't know if it's worth the wait.
I can ask for a refund and buy from another seller right away. And I think it's better, because I can't stand waiting so long for something I already paid for.

2nd Hand Desire Reboots with SIM in

I purchased a 2nd hand desire from ebay a couple days ago and it came today, apparently the phone was only used a few times so is 'as new'. I've come to boot it up and it constantly reboots with my SIM card in, doesn't even get past the HTC Boot screen.
If I take the SIM out it boots fine. I've spent a while searching through similiar issues but can't actually find anything concrete as to what to do. I'm not sure if it's been rooted previously and am wondering if I should just send it back and purchase another one from elsewhere?
Any advice?
K
Boot it without the SIM card and go to Settings>About phone>Software information and post up the Software version
Might need to reflash the stock FW on it to make sure it's working properly
Can you identify whether they have flashed it from this too?
Not really bothered so long as I can get it to work but don't want to risk doing something that will give them every reason to tell me to bugger off

Pretty sure that's the stock Orange UK FW, which would suggest you have an AMOLED screen as well
In which case, it'll be locked to Orange and you'll need an unlock code to use another network but wouldn't explain the reboots with a SIM card in it
The seller has already unlocked it, she used it with Vodafone as far as I'm aware and said it worked perfectly fine.
You reckon my best bet is to send it back? It's listed as no returns but its my impression that they have a duty to ensure it's in 'as described' condition and it clearly isn't in full working order.
I reckon so, if it's not working then they have to refund your money. Perhaps try another SIM card to rule it out but other than flashing a new ROM there's no way of knowing what's wrong
Just tried my friends SIM, who is also TMob. Got a bit further for him but crashed before getting to the Home Screen again. Tried mine and it gets to the same point before a restart.
Think I may just buy one brand new, this 2nd hand experience really isn't doing me any good!
When you say the Orange has an AMOLED, should I assume the unbranded handsets don't? That kinda sucks as it was on of the reasons I wanted the Desire.
New units won't, no - they'll be SLCD
Now this is weird! When I got home I decided to try using an o2 sim I have lying around. It booted fine. Swapped it with my Tmob and it booted fine too.
Did a factory reset, tried it with the Tmob and it reboot looped, put the o2 sim in and it reboot looped with that too! Figured the only thing I'd done differently was the battery has been disconnected for the past hour or so, tried leaving it out for 5 minutes and lo and behold it booted fine with the Tmob sim.
Had to put in the APN settings for internet but otherwise it seems to be working perfectly fine now!
Undecided on whether I should send it back or not now, it's working but could it be buggy because of the issues I've been having... Why are these things never simple!
It's going back..... went back to the reboot loop as soon as I powered it off and on again. Can't be doing with it. Going to buy me a new one and hopefully won't have these problems.
Best thing IMO, shame though as it's a good phone
If you're buying new might as well get the Desire S as it's out now SIM-free
I did consider that but I'm really not a fan of capacitive buttons at the bottom of the screen as I constantly hit them on accident. Think I'll just get myself a Desire from Amazon for £300 and stick with that for the next year atleast.
This actually sounds like this Desire is having the famous bootloops. It's faulty hardware.

I'd have said keep it, then root it and load a custom rom

[Q] HTC Desire won't boot or charge

Hi! My first post here and, sadly, not a pleasant one for me.
Today I, while charging my rooted Desire (Ginger Villain 2.8, if that matters), launched an app and it crashed (black screen but with status bar still showing). Since none of the buttons were responding, I took out the battery and then put it back in and tried to boot it. I went as far as the GingerVillain logo screen but then stopped the process. Since I was impatient (and dumb...), I pulled the battery out again. On the next boot process it halted at the white HTC screen. But now on the 3rd try it refuses to boot at all. No response what so ever when I press the Power button. Charge LED doesn't light up if I connect the USB cable.
What could I have messed up? Any solutions? I sure hope I haven't bricked it or something... Any help is appreciated!
Can you access hboot or fastboot? If yes, use the last one flash ruu. If not, use the search. There is a thread with nearly the same problem like yours and when I remember correctly, it got solved.
Power + Volume down doesn't work.
The other thread that seemed to be about this problem also involved some physical damage. My phone hasn't been dropped or soaked though.
I will try to get a hold of a charged battery and see what happens. Don't know why would it crash and burn like this considering that I wasn't installing anything. :/
Also some people suggested a while ago, to take out the battery and leave the phone alone for a few minutes, then try to boot again.

Had it sitting for approx. 4h with the battery removed. Put it back in and still no response what so ever. Power button doesn't do anything nor does plugging in a charger. Wasn't able to put in a charged battery because no one I know has this phone.
Not happy about this. And I'm pretty sure the tech support will just end up blaming the root...
Well, try to hold down the power button for at least 30 seconds while the battery is off. It works with notebooks. Other than that, no idea.
i guess mobo is dead, with roor you loose your warranty as well, so if mobo is realy dead you need to buy new phone, or try look on Ebay, but first sent it to htc just for diagnostic, we need to know what realy happend to your phone and after that look for advice

eehh..no.... if the motherboard is dead - so is the root, they won't know, so you still have your warranty.
My phone also randomly died on me once, it was rooted and S-OFF'd, sent it to htc and they repaired it for me. Don't worry about it just send it off. If it's dead it's dead.
in that case you are right, if mobo is realy dead so the root is dead too, yeah
sent it to htc and you will see
Heh encouraging replies.
Anyway, I don't have an official subsidiary of HTC in my country so I'll just bring it to the shop I bought it from. Not sure if they do diagnostics and repairs themselves or just forward it to HTC.
Since I've never gave a phone for repairs, what are your suggestions regarding the SD card? I assume it's fine if I just remove it and bring in just the phone itself. Most of my apps are installed on the card, but I guess I can kiss them goodbye at this point, right?

no, all HTC as that you give them is your phone and your battery. No SIM card, no SD, no charger/ cables. Just the phone itself.
they dont need your sdcard, you should give them just phone, battery and thats all, everything else leave home, i just sent my phone with battery to repair, simple
Bumping this thread in case somebody finds it and wants to know the outcome. I gave the phone for repairs and the conclusion was a broken motherboard which they simply replaced.
I have to admit, I was ready to buy a new phone and now that I have my old one back, it's a kinda weird feeling. I definitely do want to upgrade to Galaxy S II but it's still bloody expensive. I guess I'll just wait till the end of my warranty (April next year) for even better phones to hit the market and upgrade then...

I used them for my desire last year. They took a week. They dont give you a handset so you will need a spare one. I restored it back to stock so im not sure how they would react with a custom rom on it.
I plan on putting it back to stock just weren't sure if they will check the boot loader although the problem I'm having is nothing to do with custom ROMs and is quite obviously hardware
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Just send it directly to HTC UK, they have a pretty fast turnaround
sent my three uk hox in last month same problem as you with severe overheating and case had become loose, i had used custom roms but when returning it i went back to stock. it clearly said relocked they didn't ask any questions as to why it was relocked just fixed it and sent it back although when they opened the phone the engineer damaged my case i have a black stress mark on side of phone from the tool they use to open it not only that they changed it from relocked to locked my phone has the same imei number apparently they replaced the main board but surely if that were the case i would have a different imei
I work with three and to be honest I would send mine back to HTC direct. If you have an issue with the repair complain as its the only way to make our service better...
I to have an issue with my one x, it has yellow spots appearing on the screen. Not sure how three would react to my boot loader being unlocked but when I called HTC direct I have them my imei no. He knew I had unlocked it as it was done through their dev site and told me they would fix the screen as its heat burn, caused by charging and watching movies at the same time. And had nothing to do with boot loader unlock. Result
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Sent my one x back to HTC direct cutting out 3 when my phone had yellow spots on the screen I had unnlocked the phone so just relocked the bootloader and put the 3 ruu rom back on it and they had no problems in fixing my one x and I had it back in my hands within 4 days I had a great service with them and now my one x is how it should be my advice just send it back to HTC for repair just make sure you relock the bootloader just in case but im sure as long as the problem is hardware related and not a dodgy flash or anything you wont have a problem.
only downside was I had no phone for 4 days but thats something you will have to live without for the time being.
oh and I had to reput all my software back on and re-setup the whole phone lol
