[Q] Dutch to English - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi...some advice please. Tomorrow I will pick up an HTC Desire (unlocked) from my provider here in Holland. The issue is that I am English.....and ASAP I will need to change the Android 2.1 Dutch into a WWE system. I have flashed my previous HTCs but want some advice on Flashing this phone.
Question 1) Which flash do you recommend I download from this site (there seem to be loads of std WWE files?
Question 2) Anything to be careful with?
Question 3) I have downloaded Unrevoked3 software....is this what I should use for an unlocked phone?
Many thanks in advance for the answers.
Trafford

Is it coming from a Dutch operator? If not, when you first turn it on it'll ask your language...

Yes its a Dutch operator and a Dutch Operating system. Thats why I need WWE. I cannot read Dutch and all alerts etc will be dutch even if by selecting English will give some things in English....been there 4 times now with previous HTC phones in Holland.

Im dutch too i can help you
Just ask te seller to set the language to english?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

The T-Mobile shop said it was only available in Dutch so I took their word for it. It arrives tomorrow so I will see if thats all thats needed. My experience from before is that this is not the answer. Your ROM is NLD and I need WWE

Trafford, I work in a T-Mobile store and today I sold a Samsung Galaxy which I turned to English for a customer. The day before yesterday I sold another android phone and turned it to Chinese... I don't think you need to change the ROM just for the language... Also in my memory, I was able to change the T-Mobile HTC Desire to English without any problems or Dutch pop-ups. Can't check it though, rooted and customized a while ago.

That sounds great Sjraar. The T-Mobile guy asked and was told it was Dutch....so of course I decided to check for a new ROM. He also said it was unlocked. Does that mean it is Rooted or unrooted?? or is locking and rooting unconnected?

If you work in a phone store, you should know that it depends from where your company imports the phones.. when they're smart, they buy wwe because it can be cheaper.

I hope it is WWE it will save some hassle. By the way.....He also said it was unlocked. Does that mean it is Rooted or unrooted?? or is locking and rooting unconnected?

I'm not completely sure, but I think they bought WWE versions and then put a small T-Mobile branding over it. There's no sign of web 'n walk logo's and stuff. Just the bootscreen was T-Mobile, but when I flashed a diffrent ROM, that went away...

It's unlocked to any network, but it's still unrooted, so that you need to do. I used the UnRevoked option, but check whether the phone has an SLCD or AMOLED. Read something somethere that you need to be careful with that, and even though it states on the box that the phone has an AMOLED screen, it might be a SLCD. HTC hasn't yet changed the boxes...

Well I guess I will see tomorrow if they get it as promised. Thanks for your replies everyone. I was thinking of flashing to Android 2.2 .....what do you think?

When we checked the spec on the computer in the shop it said Amoled, that was my reason for having the desire instead of the HD2 which he had in stock but Windows 6.5 and no AMOLED so I went for the desire. I better check that too....how will I know the difference?

found this
After hearing that HTC will officially switch to Super LCD screens from AMOLED back in July due to AMOLED display panel shortages on Samsung's side, we now got to a point where new HTC Desire devices hit the market from the new production batch sporting SLCD screens. If you want to make sure your device has a SLCD screen, read below for a few hints:
1. Check the box your Desire came with at the section Display: if it states "3.7 inch AMOLED touch-sensitive screen" then you've got an AMOLED display but if it says "3.7-inch touch-sensitive screen" then you've got an SLCD display.

orange version of the diamond rom???

HI
I am awaiting delivery of my diamond from orange, i was woundering if the orange version is any different to the standard version, and if it is can i flash the rom so it goes back to the standard htc version because i think orange changes the phones to much
Currently its a stock ROM from what I can tell. No GUI customisation at all.
Orange Diamond
I got the orange diamond on the 10th July and I does not have any orange customization at all its still the black and white HTC look.
Would be interesting to see what yours has
Iam in the UK
it would also be good to know what version on Radio Rom you have as I am in takes with orange to get me Radio v1.00.25.05 which is supposed to make the battery last longer
If any one out there is having the same problem they MUST call orange and get to talk to handset faults in Plymouth as so fat they have only had mine and another user call with the problem and it thats all they get they will be slow in getting the update available.
HTC will not give me the Hotfix but have confirmed it exists but I have to get it from orange who say they do not have it
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE any orange Diamond users call orange about the problem.

hi, mate can you do me a favour. can you post the oroginal rom. I have been searching whole forum but could not find any.
@ lenaddison - PM sent.
I have radio version prior to the one you mention too... battery lasts around 5 ish hours with moderate use. 2 Days old Diamond.
Tried to register it on the HTC site but will not allow it... so cannot get an update that way.
Great device apart from a few things that HTC should sort with newer software - which I believe is available but not in the Uk

Does anyone know if this is still the case and that Orange branded Diamonds come with standard HTC software??
I've got a Diamond coming this week and I'm not keen on the Orange branding i've seen online, and all this ROM flashing business seems way over my head!
So to sum up, will the Diamond I receive from Orange UK have the normal HTC black and white look, or the Orange branded software?
Thanks!
I think you will have the orange cooked rom...
I received mine at 16/07 and it come with all orange things (even the box is customized !)

Damn. How hard is it to get the original black and white HTC ROM onto the device? And what are the risks, i.e. how easy to permanently bugger it up is it!!
It's hard to understand what and how to do, but it seem a easy procedure...
It seem because I don't did it myself, I still reading topics on that forum, there are a LOT of informations, it take time to read everything
One thing to start : you can flash the rom of your device, and you have the choice between the original HTC rom (the stock rom) and customized versions of this stock rom (there are a lot on this forum)
The risks ? brick your phone
(or maybe yours will be orange free and you'll dont need all of this )
I'm on the Uk Orange network and my Diamond didn't have any orange branding on the software. It has a small Orange logo on the back of the handset, it also came with a nice leather slip case. The box t came in was the normal Orange affair with the 2 for 1 cinema tickets adverts etc.
Incedently i've painlessly flashed the TLR 3 ROM following the easy to follow instructions on the start of the thread for the ROM.
I've not massivley noticed any difference. It's is slightly faster and the few tweaks within the ROM make the phone more user friendly. Dont expect miracles from an extended battery life due to an updated radio. Again I cant notice any difference.
Is anyone else of the opinion that the music player within TF3D is completely useless? Mine only seems to play the first 30 seconds of a song and I cant 'flick' through my albums.
That aside, I am very impressed with the phone and actually think its much better than my brothers 3g iPhone. Largely due to the efforts of the talented programers that contribute on this site - Thanks guys

Screen Issue

Evening Guys,
Got a slight problem, at some point today my phone's screen has gone a little, erm, wrong
In the perfect centre of the screen a a block has appeared measuing 2 Inch High by 1 Inch Wide, and has a oil on water effect, that section of the screen is still touch sensitive but I wonder if something has broken, the screen image is displayed OK underneath which made me wonder what has actually gone wrong ?
Any explanations ?
Also, If this is bad and I claim on my mobile insurance, I am obviously going to flash the latest official ROM to it, but I also need to return the SPL to a stock one obviously, can someone give me a link to the one I should put on, I currently have on HardSPL SPL-1.93.OliNex.
Much appreciated, this is bizzare, any help or advice would be helpful.
Many thanks.
This is an issue a few people have and some managed to get it repaired under warranty see 4WINMOBILE, HTCWIKI and HERE.
As for returning to stock ROM and SPL there is also a post (or two) on that subject. (HERE)
If you need any help returning to stock, I will offer my assistance to you.
That would be appreciated mate, if you could point me at the correct official SPL I should flash to my device that would be great.
I don't know what the vodaphone version came with but I would use 1.37 and the latest UK WWE official ROM and send it back to HTC (UK) which are based in Milton Keynes.
As long as you remove the customisation then all should be OK.
EDIT: did you see my first post for a link to the SPL info posted by cmonex
Yeah, it's a O2 device anyway, but I have a vodafone contract, purchased the device a few months ago on Ebay, got vodafone to add to my mobile insurance the day it arrived.
Been fine for months and most of today, and then that happened. Damn my luck.
Have you a link to the 1.37 Official SPL ? Or whicever the O2 one is.
EDIT: Opps, thanks for that, got what I need, I'll be ringing Vodafone in the morning to sort out the return.

HTC Desire on Orange.

Hi,
I'm a n00b when it comes to android handsets. I have come across two different deals for the desire: carphone warehouse unbranded 24mth for £25 and orange branded 24mth for £25 (business). Thing is I really like the black handset as opposed to the brown one. Can someone answer whether it is possible to remove all the stuff that Orange stick on their handsets without the need to flash/rom(?) - or at least, if that really is the only way how this can be done, what do you do if you need to use the warranty on the handset and have it repaired?
Thanks in advance,
M.

Well removing things is a pain and if you want to unlock with a branded phone you will need to use a goldcard, unbranded is always better and the brown looks rather sexy IMO (I was against it to start with too)
Rooting is always a good thing if you need more info have a look here;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
and they cant really touch you on the Warrenty side, ok if its a SW problem reflash with a stock ROM and get rid of the Rootedness,,, if its HW issue thats nothing to do with SW i.e a broken screen they cant call you up on it
So, I could get an orange-flavoured desire; boot the device into recovery mode and back up the phone (presumably this is an image), and restore the image using recovery mode should anything go wrong. I've read that there are stock images of the orange-flavour O/S, but I'd rather use my own image of the OS from when I bought the handset - am I correct in my thinking...can I do this?
Cheers!
unbranded phone is better choice, it will make your life much easier if you want to experiment with roms in future

Is this HTC Desire S of mine legit?

Hi,
New to HTC and Android, but just wanted to get your opinion on something.
I got an unlocked HTC Desire S from a Chinese (Hong Kong) supplier via a local middleman. It had all kinds of Chinese bloatware on it, and so I decided to flash a new rom. When I went into About phone > Phone identity to write everything down before flashing, I noticed it has a strange 'Device serial number' of 123456789012. That looks kind of strange. On the box sticker and on the sticker in the battery compartment of the phone, what I see is "S/N: SH1CATJxxxxx". Is there anything fishy going on there?
The default Android 2.3.3 OS seems all right. It has what looks like a default HTC startup splash screen (though I don't know if that makes a difference). I did notice that there wasn't a Power settings entry in settings to change fastboot. I had to pull out the battery to get to the boot screen. Don't know if that's a big deal either. I also noticed it was S-Off to begin with when I installed root.
Does this all seem strange, legit, clone-ish?
Would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.
Perhaps people in the HTC desire S forum would be able to help you better. Many of us may never have seen a HTC desire S so we cannot tell you what is legit or not.
Ok. Thanks. Didn't see the Desire S forum down there at first.

[Q] Changing region and language of HTC one x

Hello Guys,
I am a newbie here & would appreciate your help in following matter.
I bought a HTC One X from Bangkok and i m using it in India now.I am facing following issues.
1. I suspect that the phone that i bought was AT &T locked phone earlier and i might have been cheated by the seller in this regard. My question is how do i confirm whether this is an AT&T unlocked Phone?
2. The language of applications installed on the Phone is chinese and i cant seem to get rid of the language even after changing the language from settings page. How do i get it to be in English completely?
3. Indian carrier SIM apart from CELLONE does not detect or register on any network here. and the SIM slot is a normal one not a micro SIM Slot. Does this Phone require any special kind of SIM card?
4. Even Google Play is not there. whenever i try to download anything a page in chinese opens up. And i do not know chinese.
4. Will rooting of my phone help in any of these regard? I even dont know whether this Phone was a rooted one.
Please Help somebody....
Thanks & regard..
Nix.

Well i am sure that its not a chinese knock off atleast.. but this may be AT&T unlocked, that i am confused about...
Got to<settings <about<software information. Take a screenshot and post here.
here is the screenshot.. plz help dude.. i am all confused right now
Looks like it could be a really old build of HK firmware, but the kernel date doesn't make sense.
Try flashing the latest HK RUU (1.29.708.15) http://www.filefactory.com/f/7cc7b2fbdd03c031/
I'll leave it to you to find a username and password that works, but it's been posted in this forum more than once.
Strange, Also you mentioned that the phone takes a full sized sim not micro sim. Check the HOX's spec sheet and you will find that they were manufactured with micro sim slot only.
Maybe it IS a knock off OR someone modded the build.prop and sold you a Desire X?
i am uploading my factory mode screen. Please see if you guys can help
The number of speaker holes are less that the genuine one x. I think you have been fooled. The Hboot that you have is different. Check the attached pic.
Well this just gets stranger and stranger.
Doesn't look like a real One X I'm afraid.

yeah, it definitely seems that i have been fooled now. Any ways, is there any way to know the device hardware configuration, so that i may be able to flash it to atleast use it here in India.
Is there any ROM compatible to any handset?? If so, Then how do i go with it?

I was trying to be sensitive in my previous posts, and felt for you. Best you leave the rom as is, chances are if you try flashing you could end up with a brick.
sorry to bring this post back to life.. but need help.
my cousin from europe gave me his old HTC One X for my parents to use. but they need that to be in traditional Chinese language system.
can someone help me? I have posted up the SW and kernal version for your reference.
Thank you.
