Help selling on ebay! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I'm debating putting my nexus up for sale on ebay and could use some advice...
What should I start off the bidding at? will be selling it with standard and extended battery.
Should I leave it rooted or return to stock?
Any idea roughly what I may end up getting for it?
Should I bother taking pics of the phone or just use a standard pic of the phone?
Will I have any problems trying to sell the phone with no history of selling items?

99p starting bid, it's free. Keep it rooted, put a 1.4 GHz kernel in it title it 'Galaxy Nexus, Rooted, overclocked 1.4 GHz with custom recovery'.
People will go mental for it. I've just sold my Desire for £150 because it's overclocked to 1.2 GHz.

Forgot to mention it is the verizon phone... Do I list it as Verizon or CDMA?

I don't know much about Verizon and CDMA, but I suppose if it's important you should mention it. I don't know how you transfer numbers with a CDMA phone.
Don't forget to mention you can relock the bootloader and easily flash a stock ROM if someone is worried about the warranty.

I'd say you should list it as "Verizon (CDMA/LTE)". The Verizon part is important as the at least the CDMA part of it will be locked to Verizon

I usually start bids off at 99 cents. As already mentioned, you can list it as rooted, but offer to return to factory state if the buyer requests. You should get close to what you paid if the phone is in mint condition. Always take pictures so the buyer knows exactly what they're getting (I take 3-4, showing the condition of the phone and accessories included). You won't have problems selling, every seller had 0 feedback at one point. Good luck

I've got a mint Nexus and a pro DSLR with a decent macro lens, I can take 3-4 nice close ups of you like? A good few pictures always helps you get a good price.

Hhhhmm so I'm not looking at getting much more than the $300 it costs with contract?

No you are looking to get close to whatever Verizon will sell it out of contract!

LOL if its mint with original packaging and accessories you should easily get 500 for it

i agree 500- 600 easy and if you write your username on a pice of paper and photograph the phone on top of the paper, that helps persuade users that you are actually in possession of said product.
what to be careful of is users paying for it with zero feedback using a stolen CC

If it comes to that do I have the option not to sell to that person without a penalty?
Will it make a difference money wise if I list the phone as rooted or stock?

Just sell it rooted, you'll get more for it. Some folk haven't a clue about how to root a phone and will pay a premium for it. Trust me, I sell all my phones overclocked and rooted and I always do well.

Wow, very interesting, I thought selling rooted wouldnt be a good idea cause people may think they lost their warranty without a way back.

Like I said in post #4 just explain how easy it is to relock and flash the stock ROM using mskip's rooting method. Just word it intelligibly and people will be all over it.

Selling previous phones are always the way I get new ones.
I pretty much agree with above. List at least three different pictures (one of the front, back and a good angle showing everything you're listing such as the box and cables). Mention in the listing that they should contact you with any questions or if they want to see more pictures. Also make sure to mention something along the lines of "Anyone with zero feedback/International bidders email me first before bidding or I may remove your bid." in bold. This way those who are in those situations but serious about the item will contact you first. Then you just have to keep track of who bids. Removing a bid once usually keeps a joker from bidding again. And I wouldn't worry about price and what removing a bid might do. Right now this is rated as the best android phone out there (by reviewers, anyways). It'll still sell for $500 -$600 no matter what

Switched OFF Verizon for Nexiii ;}

So this new Galaxy phone Verizon holds exclusivity over in the US is turning out to be a giant flop lol. Verizon holds dominion over this new "Galaxy" device, and therefore it is not the true "Google experience," and therefore is not a Nexus ... The real Nexus just hit the UK and will explode its white hot awesomeness all over Canada soon. Looks like the World has an exclusive over the Nexus and the US has to wait until Dec 4th or whenever,
The true Nexus so far:
1) Is way thinner and not ugly
2) has a hyperskin coating on the back and not brushed aluminum
3) Is bloat-free lol
4) Is already released "exclusively" around the world, excluding the US
5) Is not under the twisted control of an evil carrier
6) Does not have any stupid carrier logos anywhere
7) Is cheaper (Phone itself, and Tmo/ATT plans vs VZW - $30 vs $95)
8) Uses a lot less battery because it doesn't have a huge/premature LTE radio
9) one word: Freedom... use the phone around the world, switch carriers whenever with sim cards
I just switched off Verizon and purchased my unicorn from glorious Handtec.
100Mins, Unlimited Text & Data (5GB of 4G)on T-Mo for $30, can't beat that XD I used to pay $95 on VZW for 450 talk/unl txt+web lol.
Anyone else switched off VZW for the Nex?

$698 I believe. It would normally be $595 I believe, if you bought it in the UK. But there's a VAT or whatever for importing

1) "way thinner" = 0.53mm? Really?
2) Where's your source saying the back of the Verizon model is brushed aluminum and not hyperskin?
3) The bloat on the VZW model (from what we know at this time) is TWO pre-installed apps. Big whoop.
4) Yeah the global model is already released, but being on Verizon I'm stuck waiting, which is fine. I've waited a year and a half for this phone, another couple weeks isn't going to kill me.
5) Yeah well, that's life
6) True. But the Verizon model has the logos on the BACK, and on the battery cover no less (not branded on the device itself), so big whoop.
7) You get 5GB data, I have unlimited, $30/mo. And that'll be on Verizon's LTE, so there
8) Where's your evidence that the LTE model uses "a lot [more] battery" because of its radio? Oh right, the phone isn't even out yet... whoops.
9) That's true of any global phone basically.
Have fun with your less phone minutes and capped data. Sure I don't talk on the phone much (and I'm on a family plan), but grandfathered unlimited data ftw.

1) yeah specwise i dont think .5 is too big a number, but when u compare the two side-by-side .. its somewhat really bad lol, and the colors r kinda diff? i dunno
2) oh it was on androidforums I believe, but if you look at the finish on the back of each Nexus you can see they are not the same.
3) Yeah the bloat is no big deal, i just think its the principal of the matter ya know?
6) same thing principal of the matter.. supposed to be a nexus, but again most ppl wouldnt care about this
7) wow nice dude. yeah im kind of worried about going over 5gb but it should be cool as long as i use wifi when i stream music (which is next to never ;p lol)
8) its just a known fact that LTE tech atm is premature and battery consumption is nuts with the 1st gen radios. This should be a lot better next year. Also, the Razr has good battery i hear, not because the radio isnt killign the battery, but because of the awesome Smart Battery (or something) app in the phone.

As for the battery cover finish, I attached a snap from the Getting Started video uploaded the other day. Looks like hyperskin to me. (At least as well as I can see)
Where have you seen an actual side-by-side comparison shot of the two models? I know someone at Android Central made one based on a screenshot from one of the videos, but I'm pretty sure the colors and thickness of the LTE one look different because of different lighting in the pictures.
And as for the fact that Verizon messing somewhat with a little bit of the software on the phone as going against the principle of having a Nexus, I understand where you're coming from, but Verizon is by no means corrupting the spirit of this phone. This model (4G LTE, SCH-i515?) is Verizon-specific, so doesn't Verizon have some sort of right to do SOMETHING with it? All the GSM carriers selling the GSM unlocked model get identical phones, so no wonder they aren't carrier branded. Just saying.
I'm perfectly happy with the little changes Verizon is making, so long as they don't encrypt the bootloader or do anything to impede being able to get timely OS updates. (Yes, I know it won't be instant rollout like with the GSM model). This is the first time a Nexus phone has come to Verizon, and I'll be getting it
Do you have a link to were you bought it. I'm seriously considering doing the same thing, based on your list in your original post. I'm also tired of waiting.

I'm fairly sure it looks weird because he photoshopped it out of a video, not out of a press shot or something. Basically impossible to judge size and shape that definitively off of cutting an image out of a video.
Even if the phone is a tad thicker than 9.47mm like it's advertised to be, I won't complain. Just like I didn't complain about how thick my OG is (for the record, the GN is the thickness of the OG Droid minus the screen)
Topics like this one are the *EXACT* problem I have with this forum. People spouting knowledge about a topic they know nothing about.
Nobody even knows how the LTE version performs...so making assumptions about it is completely ridiculous. You make a post about all these "facts" when, in fact, very few of them are even true or confirmed. Allow me to go through the list:
1) Is way thinner and not ugly
.50mm is absolutely nothing...most people wouldn't notice the difference. Ugly? It looks identical.
2) has a hyperskin coating on the back and not brushed aluminum
You have no idea what the back of this phone is made out of...don't make assumptions.
3) Is bloat-free lol
Assumptions? Yes. Nobody knows for sure there is "bloatware" on it. The video everybody talks about is using a pre-release version of the hardware and software and Verizon might have paid to have the apps displayed in that video.
4) Is already released "exclusively" around the world, excluding the US
Because it's a different phone...the LTE model is a different phone than the one released around the world.
5) Is not under the twisted control of an evil carrier
lol
6) Does not have any stupid carrier logos anywhere
Firstly, they're on the back. Secondly, get a $1 battery cover and suddenly they're gone!
7) Is cheaper (Phone itself, and Tmo/ATT plans vs VZW - $30 vs $95)
Nobody knows what the price is, so your assumptions are invalid and ignorant. As for the plans...what? What TMo or AT&T plan is $30? I have AT&T and for the lowest amount of minutes and unlimited text and data I pay around $90. On Verizon the same thing is $90. I'm mad at the difference.
8) Uses a lot less battery because it doesn't have a huge/premature LTE radio
lol the reason you're saying this is because you haven't *used* LTE. Firstly, the LTE version has a bigger battery...meaning the "less battery" is pretty much negated. Secondly, it has ****ING LTE. The difference is speed is incredible (my Galaxy Tab connects at around 25/10Mbps...which is actually faster than my home internet).
9) Can be used on various carriers and around the world
I'm very mad at this too. It's too bad that the one time I leave the country every other year I'll have to use my company phone. Then again, I'll be on vacation...so I won't be using that, either. Not a problem.

But yeah, you use this thing every single day and it is much, much, much, more than just a phone Think of the extra $100 as a fee for getting this sexy unicorn two months early, anddd if the 32GB comes out in the next 90 days, you can return this one and buy that one (<--my plan, im going to keep the box + receipt ;p)

[Opinions] What should I do with my “SPARE” Galaxy Nexus?

Last week, my SGN tried to commit suicide by jumping face first from a ~4 foot shelf onto the hard concrete floor in my garage. Fortunately the phone survived and was otherwise 100% functional, but the glass was completely shattered.
I was able to use an upgrade I had for another line to purchase a second Nexus at a heavily discounted corporate price.
Later that I day, I discovered this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1474979
…where I learned that I was able to ship the Nexus to Samsung directly for glass repair.
So in the next week or two, I be receiving my original Galaxy Nexus back to me in perfect re-furbished condition. So what should I do with it:
Sell it?
What is the market for these phones out of contract? Would somebody be willing to pay ~$400 for a complete SGN with LTE sim card?
Give it to the wife?
Nah, she barely uses the DroidX I gave her back in December.
Convert to a desktop Android?
Buy an MHL cable, BlueTooth keyboard / mouse and a new monitor; and then use for general surfing and billpaying?
Keep it as a backup for the next time the phone is dropped and the glass shatters?
I’m leaning towards selling it myself, but I’m not convinced somebody is willing to spend this much for a phone from an otherwise unknown seller.
Thoughts?

So i've moved on to the galaxy s3 on att and have no use for this phone anymore. It's in pretty good condition. How much can i expect to get from this thing. I want to put it on craigslist but there prices are all over the place.
I put it on there for 350 but no responses. What would be a fair price? I don't want to go too low.
Also I'm not trying to sell it on here, I'm not sure but i would assume thats against forum rules. If it's believed to be against the rules please delete my post or request i change it before banning me or anything.

Well Sprint will only give you $105 on a buyback and that's if the phone is in pristine condition. I'd definitely lower it to around $200-250 (the going prices I've seen so far). Also, check gazelle.com sometimes their price offering is way better than Sprint.

Sold my brothers white 9.8/10 almost perfect clean esn last week on craigslist. No interest at $250 lowered to $225 guy offered $170, settled on $200.

Well Sprint will only give you $105 on a buyback and that's if the phone is in pristine condition. I'd definitely lower it to around $200-250 (the going prices I've seen so far). Also, check gazelle.com sometimes their price offering is way better than Sprint.

Sprint is only offering $98 now according to the website.

If I ever get rid of mine I'll be donating it to a developer. $105 & $98 are almost insulting for this phone. lol
Could be worse, $5 for a moto droid

from my observation youll only get 250 if u have a bunch of accessories (cases, extra chargers, etc.) not to mention a pristine phone. 200 is def closer to average.
my 2cents, this phone is nice enough to hang onto IMO just as another device to screw around. but i do like my toys. i suppose if ur gonna sell it now is the last shot to get 200, it will prob drop to 150 within the next 2 months.
also always nice to have a backup phone.
just a tip, open ebay app, search "epic 4g touch", click the refine button, choose "cell phones and smart phones" category, on the same page tick the box that says "sold items only", press done, what you now see is the range of amounts epic 4g touches have been selling for recently...
Just traded my evo 3d straight-up for one of these and am very impressed. I plan on giving it to a family member and taking an evo4g in trade. I will be hunting for another epic touch to replace it....great phone. They go for under 200 in my area.

Two great phones. The OG EVO still ranks as one of my favorites edged out only by the E4GT.
My son passed his E4GT to his dad in exchange for me giving him my OG EVO. He just likes the weight and feel of it. I think the E4GT almost felt too light and he was always worried he'd drop it while using it. lol He'll come back around at some point but it's great to see my EVO getting more use.
I've been seeing them go for 200-250 in the marketplace, price has really dropped on them since the release of the GS3.

Just a heads-up to XDAers with E4GTs for sale:
I'm about to test and see if the MVNO KDDI Mobile will allow Sprint phones to be allowed on their network - if it does there will probably be several in my office interested in buying phones. But I caveat that with this: It would be mainly for work purposes so they're probably only going to want 100, maybe 150 if they are interested.
Will post an update soon - but honestly I don't see how they won't let it if the ESN is clean and I factory reset to allow hands-free activation.
I sold mine on swappa.com for 300 about a month ago.

A lot has changed in that month, namely the public release of SGSIII.

How much can I sell my note2?

I'm hoping not to start a flame war here...let me start by saying I do not hate my Note 2. I think it's a great phone.
The thing is, i haven't really used my stylus in any real sense, and it was really the main reason I got the device...also the multi-window. I only use multi-window while driving to watch a movie, while keeping a tiny segment of google maps on screen. This is really not something I should be doing anyway
thirdly...htc one.
anyway, my phone is well preserved, no scratches, and always had a case and screen protector since day one. how much should I be able to sell this device? I have no experience selling phones, what's the best way to do this? Any advice would be great. my phone is under contract. is there issues i need to know about?

My best advice would be to shop around.. EBay and Craig's list would b good places to get a idea of a fair price.. EBay auctions definately because the buyers set the price.. Just b sure to shop around and don't stop on 1 price.. Good luck to u..

Your best option if your not familiar in selling is to use swappa.com. It's a great way to sell your phone. No eBay fees and only charge is the $10 you pay after selling phone. Just remember to calculate shipping costs on your asking price. And don't sell yourself short if your phone really is in good condition. Just look at previous sold phones and what they sold for and base it on that.
Other option is Craigslist. Only problem with this is you'll get lots of spam emails and hagglers trying to get a great phone at a cheap price. But if you somehow find someone that is worth it you keep all the profit. Just make sure you sell in a public place and take a counterfeit money pen to make sure your not being duped. Best thing is to meet at a Sprint store.
Good luck. If you have any questions feel free to message me. I do this all the time. Have sold my last 2 phones on swappa and a couple on Craigslist.

Swappa is becoming the best place to sell your phone since they only charge 1 fee. The only other fee you pay is with PayPal once you get paid. You must use PayPal. They also only sell phones that are in working condition and with clean esn. So far more and more people shop and sell on swappa. You can even link your phone sale on Twitter and Facebook. Just go on there and look at info they give you before you sell. It's easy and if your price seems high you can compare it to other phones and see how much they sold for. You can even lower the price anytime you want, or raise it.

I just checked local Craigslist, cheapest I've seen for a Sprint Note-2 is $400, seen one that was flashed to Cricket for $349. Most are 400 and up.
Thanks guys. Very helpful

All my phones have been sold through eBay. Even after the fees and PayPal fees, I feel that's where I pocket the most money after the sale. That also include shipping.
HAHA. MultiView - watching movies with GPS on the other screen.
Not to hijack the thread @THE op.. But you can sell a phone that's under contract right and avoid fees with a phone not being on the line by just getting a cheap phone to put on it until you sell the main phone right?

went mildly crazy and decided to buy the HTC One.
anyone interested?
Comes with 2 iSmooth screen protectors (the 3rd is installed...semi-perfectly, with a lint trapped in the upper left side, away from the screen) + sprint body glove case + all accessories, and original box.
looking for whatever the lowest in price in swappa. shipping included. this is the titanium version.
Caveat though, I can't ship it until I receive my new phone.
They go on Craigslist for $500 id sell mine for 450 in pristine condition. Thinking about the LG Optimus bro I cannot go back to something smaller

Small Claims Court Over Rooted Phone SOLD

Hi i sold a HOX in the UK for some reason his sim card wouldn't work in it but he was happy to buy it and take it away
My Ad
Hi up for sale is my HTC one X 32GB in black and is in good condition
It is unlocked to any network
Comes with Charger, Usb Cable and is Boxed
Thxs
Ive just received a email saying he would like a refund because he cannot get the sim working and that it is rooted
So i emailed him back saying i had bought another phone which i have and wouldn't be able to offer a refund
Then i recieved a email back saying
But you've advertised the phone falsely, you never mentioned in your ad that it it wasn't running on its original android software. If you're refusing to give me a refund I'll have no other choice but to get in contact with gumtree or failing that CAB/Small claims court. Had you been honest in the original advertisement we wouldnt be having this problem
Did i have to state in the ad that it was rooted?
Any advice would be great
Thxs

If i was going to sell my phone on Ebay i'd put it on stock rom, but if i was going to keep current custom rom i would specify that it is rooted, but being rooted shouldn't effect different carriers if it's already network unlocked
i would ask him why it's so bad that it is rooted...or what the problem of a rooted system is...if he only want a refund because of the rooted rom you can help him to get back to completely stock...i still don't get why many ppl are so strange and mad if it comes to rooting -.-
Well the way i see it he has a point, i don't think it's all about running the stock rom or not but about what's written in the add. And my opinion is that you should have stated in the add that it was custom rommed/rooted so he could act on it. Not saying it's a false deal.....rather incomplete and at that point he is actually right. It's all a bit black & white, but to answer your question : if he plays this up he has a point and probably win. It's about expectations, he thinks he is buying a stock hox but in the end it is not and that's not written anywhere. I would offer him to help him to get it back to stock and see if he takes up on that offer ?
Cheers.

If you are a private seller and have sold the device to someone who came and looked at it before paying then he has very little recourse.
I recommend that you have a standard receipt which says "sold as seen" and get the buyer to sign it.

What i make of the OP the buyer didn't see it and only saw the add, in that case the buyer is stronger.
The buyer collected the phone tested it out etc and was happy with it
He was also OK with the fact that his sim card didn't seem to get a signal

Lets say i buy a car from you. I see that the left headlight is damaged. We agree ok i saw everything else good? Good. I drive away and the rear axel falls of. So it is my fault that i didnt saw what you didnt tell me? Even if he said it is ok that is rooted your ad did not say it. Imagine who will win... Or did you say that it does not have a warranty anymore? You didnt also... I would be pissed at you really

Build a bridge and get over it, the phone was returned to stock rom,it's a used phone and most used phones don't have or come with any implied warranty.

Every phone has a 2 year warranty. If you do something to void the warranty you need to tell the buyer. Im sure the buyer wanted to send it back for repairs

Relax peeps, he is here for help and obvious learned about this situation. No need to bash his mistake.
Just my 2 cents, backed up with a little consumer law.
If this was an online only transaction where the item description is the only was of determining an items state, then yes you have every right to complain and request a refund. And in all likelihood if you were take to a small claims court they would probably reach that conclusion.
But, as the buyer collected from you, the onus on inspecting the item pre-sale is his. If you deliberately withheld information, he could argue that. But, if you sold the item and demonstrated it in good faith the buyer would have no recourse. "Sold as Seen" would apply here, as the buyer physically saw it and could inspect it pre-sale.
Unlocking via HTC-Dev does not void the warranty. Nor does rooting. The warranty applies to the hardware only. (See section 4)
And @and313 yes, here in the UK if you buy a car from a private individual, not a garage or main dealer, and something falls off / breaks after you've bought it, its your responsibility.
"Private sales
When you buy a used vehicle from a private individual, you don't have the same rights as you do when buying from a trader. The legal principle of caveat emptor, or 'buyer beware' operates. You have no right to expect that the vehicle is of satisfactory quality or fit for its purpose, but there is a requirement that it should be 'as described'. For example, if an advertisement says 'low mileage, one previous owner', it must be correct. You should check the vehicle thoroughly before you buy it."

@bornnslippy - IMO you have nothing to worry about, like you're doing, I would assist the buyer like any decent person would. But the threat of being taken to a small claims court is just that, a threat.
Look, very nice and all but a honest seller tells you what there needs to be said about the selled item so if you want to hide behind paper well do it. But i am adding you @Andyto the list also

I'm sure @bornnslippy would have if asked. As with 99% of any private sales it is up to the buyer to inspect/question and agree to the sale.
No need to apologize, right & wrong are very different from legal & illegal. And is it appears nothing, illegal (UK) has happened. It's a civil matter anyway, hence the small claims court. I tend to keep all my old devices. Still have my HTC Kaiser, Hero & Desire HD

The guy who bought it never once asked if it was rooted or anything like that
If he had asked i would have told him no need to lie
If i sell a phone in the future i will put back to stock or ask if they wanted rooted

He wouldnt have a leg to stand on... If you say it was through Gumtree its a placeholder for ads not a governing body. They wouldn't do anything and a small claims court wouldn't touch it either. Its a private item being sold second hand. Even without a receipt you could claim ignorance and say you've never seen the phone before. Who's to say your lying??? Without evidence it wont stand up in court and so i wouldnt worry. Move on and forget it. Or email back saying good luck, I look forward to hearing from you, my solicitor will be in touch! always a stern bullyboy tactic that can work both ways
