Has anyone tracked down a good radio fix when wimax doesnt stay connected? I know they have radio updates but does anyone have one in particular they would recommend?

No. Unless you understand the risks do not flash a new radio ("modem" in Samsung land), there is currently no way to go back to stock (EG30).

There was a thread here on tweaking that. You have to dial a number on your phone and edit something.

Tweaking the radio
I know there was a fix to tweak the radio by dialing certain numbers, but i'm curious if anyone has done it and saw a big improvement in their 4g signal.
Considering sprint will probably not expand wimax anymore, i'm screwed with this weak signal.

Both posts above are right. It is in here. I will try and post a link if I can find it. I did the same tweaks on my OG Epic and they work well for me. There are certain setups depending if you are always in a good signal area or if you want it to connect faster, etc
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Essentially you are looking to lower the threshold for signal strength to connect and raise the timers for disconnect. It's not going to make your signal any better. It's only going to make it more usable--maybe. It could also keep you "connected" and not transmit or receive anything. Not too sure how that would be useful.
Well, i know there are things you can type for sure, but i've never heard from someone that has tested it and said it improved their 4g experience.
Was trying to find a signal amplifier because i'm in a weak 4g spot, but i'm not spending 600 bucks for something i should be getting anyway with my "premium data" 10 dollar addition to my bill from sprint.
Pisses me off that they expect their customers to be happy they are switching to LTE. Me and my expensive wimax phone are so happy sprint is changing their cell tech to LTE..

They are useful if you are in a good or fair 4g area. I live in a full bar 4g area and shortened the connect time and lowered the minimum signal strength a bit. I used same settings that I had on my OG Epic. If you don't get it now it most likely wont do anything or MAY get you 1 bar if you are in a fringe area

As far as I know, no. Not unless you get a clear module, which is like your own hotspot, but you have to pay for it per month. Also people have had issues with the signal being lost/weakens when going from outside to inside buildings.
Airave wont boost your wimax, totally diffrent everything. Not sure if there is a wimax booster

Typo, I meant to say clear. But the clear hotspot would be his only option. Or use 4G outside.

Well as I said for a 4G boost, you'd have to get a Clear hotspot, which is for 4G, or use 4G outside.

You could try aluminum foil.
Actually, there is way to adjust your Wimax setting to allow it to pick up weaker signals. You need your MSL code. Do a ##3282#, go to edit mode, enter the MSL code, go to Wimax, and find the "WiMAX_Entry_RX(RSSI)(dBm) and adjust it from -89 to -95 and continue in small increments until you find a sweet spot.
I got this from a thread on here that another member created. I tried searching for it to post this but I couldn't find it. I take no credit for figuring this out.

Yea, that's right......AOSP roms lose EPST functions. Being a Sense user, that totally slipped my mind. However, he has not mentioned if he is on an AOSP rom, so it may still help him.

So I've been up searching and searching and searching to see if anybody has found a solution to better increase the 4G connectivity for the HTC EVO 4G and the only thing I've come across from is
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925898
My question is, can we make the same changes on the exact same fields and have better signal for our EVO's
Does anybody know anything about this??
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
The main thing you can do to get a better Sprint WiMax signal is to go outside. It just doesn't work very well indoors. I'm not serious about actually walking outside just to use 4G, but unfortunately am serious when I say that the frequency Sprint/Clear uses is just too high to get inside well.
I'm on CM right now, so I can't go hunting for a similar value in the Evo's EPST. It probably would increase the battery drain when using 4G though, if it even really works at all.
Going outside isn't gonna work for me, reason being I'm trying to use 4G tethering for my xbox.

I wasn't really being serious about going outside...i'm just saying Sprint's 4G network doesn't work that well inside unless there's a tower in your backyard.
Also, latency on WiMax will be pretty bad, which matters for gaming. You'll get killed a lot.

So while I wait for LTE service and a phone that can use it, I keep hearing about Sprint upgrading to "Enhanced 3G.
But what do they mean? Faster download speeds? Voice and data at the same time? Is it simply marketing BS?
I'm not finding an explanation of it anywhere.

I don't think is voice and data at the same time because CORRECT ME if I'm wrong someone BUT I believe that's a cdma issue BUT to answer your question......Enhanced 3G is just that, is better 3G! Improved 3G speeds....NOTHING more, NOTHING less!
I believe its the new HD voice service recently announced.

Not to worry... it is a new compression algorithm to get more data packets into the same bandwidth. It should improve the speed of 3G data networks.
It is about 50/50 improvement vs marketing.

No, that's only LTE.
Voice does not transmit over 3g, wimax or LTE HD voice is sent over 1x-Advanced. 3g. WiMax and LTE all are used for data and MMs only, voice and SMS go over the 1x channel, CDMA limits the use of 1x or 3g/wimax to one or the other at a time, once LTE is available when using it you will be able to simultaneously use voice and data, theoretically, since LTE will be using a SIM card for its activation, much the same way VZW LTE works.

Correct.
wait is sprint finally jumping ship to the much better evdo rev b.? or is it still rev a but updated slightly to make it not as slow?
Its rev.a but with better compression and abackhaul that will allow for about 5x the current bandwidth per tower giving off higher aand more consistent speeds

I've only used wimax 2 or 3x, but it would make sense since it is a separate radio and wimax doesn't handle voice. The biggest benefit to LTE is its going out everywhere 3g is now and should have same or similar building penetration. Hell I live in the country 20 miles from town and 40 from a real city and my towers are scheduled for LTE in phase 2 this year which I was surprised but the whole southwest of my state is getting covered in the same rollout something like 200 towers from Sarasota/bradenton to Naples

Being that Boost Mobile runs on the Sprint CDMA network, do any of you think that this new compression will also improve Boost Mobile data speeds or does Boost have their own network filters to regulate the speeds? Add Virgin mobile to that question too. Just curious.

Side Note at att store yesterday: I was at a ATT store checking out the Salaxy Note and a customer came in to exchange his old blackberry because ATT sent him a letter that ATT is getting rid of their 1x or 2x services. Found that interesting kind of how Sprint is going to upgrade all their iDen NextTel network to LTE.

I'm about 100% sure I'm not alone when it comes to having boost mobile on our beloved epic 4g touches. Now my signal is just flat out piss poor. I get average 1-2 bars even while outside. I have flashed numerous ROMs and none have had working Wimax. I am in Everett/ Lynnwood and can't get wimax to even to last long enough to measure. I have tried a number of modems as well. EL 29, FF18, FG20 and even the newest one which was available thru the goodness updater. By the way has anyone figured out how to measure Wimax? I used to have the Evo 4g and got a great signal and the Evo would tell you if you had good or poor signal, however I have not found anything to measure 4g speed on my E4GT and without 4G I can't do the adjustments suggested in another post.

Thanks for the heads up on that, right now I am going through the different modems to see if one of them will work. Is it possible this E4GT is a dud? Although my daughter is still on stock EL29 and she has bad Wimax as well.
I did notice that if I kept toggling the 4g and ran a speed test that I sometimes got better results - so far I am at FC14 and sometimes I get 2+ mb down with a ping under a hundred. My area of Seattle sucks, as I just tried Clearwire and am sending it back as well. Does anyone know of a good app that will measure the wimax, the one one the E4Gt doesn't work very well compared to what HTC has. Well I have been working on this for quite a while so time to crash
If you go to settings than go to 4g it shows you your connection in bars like back on gingerbread. If you want to get a more accurate reading than ##DEBUG# is your best option. It gives you your connection status in dbm. Lock code is 777468 not your msl. You'll find it in Wimax DM.

Thanks to everyone who had advice for me. Took it to the store and they gave me a new refurb with working 4G, ain't Sprint the greatest, the tech told me that things burn up on the boards all the time, that I probably got the battery to hot or that the 4g part of the board just died for no particular reason (last billing cycle I did 4Gb of Wimax and 3+ Gb of 3g - that is why I stay with Sprint lol, no throttling and no warning call or text)
