(Q)BOOST Mobile ICS Modems - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I'm about 100% sure I'm not alone when it comes to having boost mobile on our beloved epic 4g touches. Now my signal is just flat out piss poor. I get average 1-2 bars even while outside. I'm running the hybrid rom with tablet UI and the issue is still there. I was told I may need to flash a new radio to improve my signal. Can someone recommend me to something to get rid of this madness? In return I'll offer my friendship

Dont what to highjack but, I saw your post about trying to get 4g on boost, check out the thread about 4g on boost in the Q&A section. I would prefer you get a mac from someone either out of state or in an other city cause you cant share the same towers at the same time.

No no I just want better signal that's all. I am fine on 3g, just want better performance

Old Today, 12:24 PM There is a way to add 4g? And here in Texas my signal is not all that great. Dunno why. But yes pls show me where to get 4g on this sucker

I looked for that thread but couldn't find it. Are there other modems or radios I can flash to get better service?

Bad service on my Evo....

I never have more than one bar of service on my evo, at best two bars. My reception is -84 dBm. I live in Houston so the area is not the problem. Everything else is working great. Any advice on fixing? Though I would try here before calling sprint.

If that's when it started you should revert back to a previous version.
Its also true that after you update a radio you should update your prl and data profile
No this has been going on for a while now, I was hoping the radios would help and they did for 3g speed. Just my service blows. What is considered a good dBm?

You mean it's always this bad with that phone or it's always this bad no matter which Sprint phone you have?
I have a HTC evo 4g, I think I noticed right after I rooted it last November. Running cm7 rom.

Rooting won't do anything related to that...
CM7 tends to be more accurate on displaying your real reception.
You may just be at the edge of a tower.
In my settings, (Mobile network state: disconnected). Could that be it?

you wanna talk about bad service!!
I just pray to God none of you are from west Michigan... our network has been over its capacity since December 22, 2010.. I know this cause I work at a service and repair store, makes me want to hurt a child.
texts come in hours/days late and if they do come in.. it comes in 5+ times... calls take 45-50 seconds to connect, voicemails come in DAYS later, you will have a missed call and your phone never rang.. internet is almost impossible. makes me hate my job!!!

Best radio fix for a weak wimax signal?

Has anyone tracked down a good radio fix when wimax doesnt stay connected? I know they have radio updates but does anyone have one in particular they would recommend?

No. Unless you understand the risks do not flash a new radio ("modem" in Samsung land), there is currently no way to go back to stock (EG30).

There was a thread here on tweaking that. You have to dial a number on your phone and edit something.

Tweaking the radio
I know there was a fix to tweak the radio by dialing certain numbers, but i'm curious if anyone has done it and saw a big improvement in their 4g signal.
Considering sprint will probably not expand wimax anymore, i'm screwed with this weak signal.

Both posts above are right. It is in here. I will try and post a link if I can find it. I did the same tweaks on my OG Epic and they work well for me. There are certain setups depending if you are always in a good signal area or if you want it to connect faster, etc
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Essentially you are looking to lower the threshold for signal strength to connect and raise the timers for disconnect. It's not going to make your signal any better. It's only going to make it more usable--maybe. It could also keep you "connected" and not transmit or receive anything. Not too sure how that would be useful.
Well, i know there are things you can type for sure, but i've never heard from someone that has tested it and said it improved their 4g experience.
Was trying to find a signal amplifier because i'm in a weak 4g spot, but i'm not spending 600 bucks for something i should be getting anyway with my "premium data" 10 dollar addition to my bill from sprint.
Pisses me off that they expect their customers to be happy they are switching to LTE. Me and my expensive wimax phone are so happy sprint is changing their cell tech to LTE..

They are useful if you are in a good or fair 4g area. I live in a full bar 4g area and shortened the connect time and lowered the minimum signal strength a bit. I used same settings that I had on my OG Epic. If you don't get it now it most likely wont do anything or MAY get you 1 bar if you are in a fringe area

3g speeds no longer horrible

So I've been playing around with some settings and after i changed my hdr/1x settings from Hybrid mode to Evdo mode I'm getting 1mps down as opposed to 0.10mbps on Hybrid mode. When on Hybrid speedtest app shows my connection as EvdoA, but in Evdo mode it shows Evdo0 and my speeds are pretty decent. Only catch is i can't send text messages. I understand Evdo mode = 3g, Cdma mode = 2g/1xrtt, and Hybrid = both working together. So is this a sign that maybe our bad speeds can also be from Hybrid mode not playing nice? If it weren't for me not being able to send text messages (mms messages work fine for some reason) i would force it to do strictly 3g..
Edit: Added two screenshots. 1st one on evdo mode and the 2nd on hybrid mode. All my test were back to back and performed the same. I find this strange. Well i just wanted to share my discovery lol...

Agreed. If anyone has any idea what to do about texting as well we may have something here.
RayTrue04, looks like we reside in the same area. Would be nice to see better 3G speeds in Hartford. I used to have a crappy LG Optimus T on T-mobile, and I got 2Mbps down. Then I switched to Sprint and the E4GT expecting to see better speeds, and Sprint's "4G" can't even compete with T-mobile's 3G speeds. I do love my E4GT though.
God bless ya Ray. If it wasn't for wifi at home and work I would be tinkering just like you.

Ever since the first Evo sprints speeds have become crap. And it's only getting worse with every new phone they release. Wimax is not so bad where I'm at but it don't penetrate some buildings well. I'm lucky I get 3 bars at home n my speeds top out at 10-12mbps.

If u read my original post thoroughly you'll see that i mentioned switching ur HDR/1x Selection from hybrid mode to evdo mode you get the evdo0. Cdma mode = 1xRtt (2g), Evdo mode = evdo0 (3g), hybrid mode = both working together and thats when it turns to evdoA..

I'm on stock, so whatever that is, I'm using it. Although I can confirm that using JB roms (such as CM10) on and s3 has no effect because my friend has the identical model I do (Both of ours were locked to Rogers before we both unlocked them to use on Telus) and the signal is always the same
Sometumes my bars drop to nothing and there is a black signal bars with grey out line and it will do that for a couple minutes then jump up to 4g or what ever reception I get at the time. Then out hers I'll get full bars. Sometimes I get no data at all just call with no internet. Maybe I got a NAD phone or something

Yeah its really spotty and on/off for me. Weird observation though... I get 4g with my note in places I don't with my Galaxy Nexus.
Darn them, talked to a shentel rep (people that control sprint towers where I am) and these lte siting are just the test sites -_- but hey, at least full lte will be out at the end of the year for me at least, but hey for test speed of anywhere from, 8-20mb down?! I can't complain, but hey, I saw the same speeds with my wimax 4g, so to each his own
