So I've been up searching and searching and searching to see if anybody has found a solution to better increase the 4G connectivity for the HTC EVO 4G and the only thing I've come across from is

My question is, can we make the same changes on the exact same fields and have better signal for our EVO's
Does anybody know anything about this??

The main thing you can do to get a better Sprint WiMax signal is to go outside. It just doesn't work very well indoors. I'm not serious about actually walking outside just to use 4G, but unfortunately am serious when I say that the frequency Sprint/Clear uses is just too high to get inside well.
I'm on CM right now, so I can't go hunting for a similar value in the Evo's EPST. It probably would increase the battery drain when using 4G though, if it even really works at all.
Going outside isn't gonna work for me, reason being I'm trying to use 4G tethering for my xbox.

I wasn't really being serious about going outside...i'm just saying Sprint's 4G network doesn't work that well inside unless there's a tower in your backyard.
Also, latency on WiMax will be pretty bad, which matters for gaming. You'll get killed a lot.

I use to use those and they work a little better its not really a stronger signal but I was able to connect in doors to my ps3 and stay connected longer.

No. Unless you understand the risks do not flash a new radio ("modem" in Samsung land), there is currently no way to go back to stock (EG30).

There was a thread here on tweaking that. You have to dial a number on your phone and edit something.

Tweaking the radio
I know there was a fix to tweak the radio by dialing certain numbers, but i'm curious if anyone has done it and saw a big improvement in their 4g signal.
Considering sprint will probably not expand wimax anymore, i'm screwed with this weak signal.

Both posts above are right. It is in here. I will try and post a link if I can find it. I did the same tweaks on my OG Epic and they work well for me. There are certain setups depending if you are always in a good signal area or if you want it to connect faster, etc

Essentially you are looking to lower the threshold for signal strength to connect and raise the timers for disconnect. It's not going to make your signal any better. It's only going to make it more usable--maybe. It could also keep you "connected" and not transmit or receive anything. Not too sure how that would be useful.
Well, i know there are things you can type for sure, but i've never heard from someone that has tested it and said it improved their 4g experience.
Was trying to find a signal amplifier because i'm in a weak 4g spot, but i'm not spending 600 bucks for something i should be getting anyway with my "premium data" 10 dollar addition to my bill from sprint.
Pisses me off that they expect their customers to be happy they are switching to LTE. Me and my expensive wimax phone are so happy sprint is changing their cell tech to LTE..

They are useful if you are in a good or fair 4g area. I live in a full bar 4g area and shortened the connect time and lowered the minimum signal strength a bit. I used same settings that I had on my OG Epic. If you don't get it now it most likely wont do anything or MAY get you 1 bar if you are in a fringe area

Why does the battery on this phone drain faster standby when connected to 4g than when connected to 3g? On my nexus s, the opposite was true. Why is this phone different?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I'm guessing the processor works harder when the device is on 4G. I don't know what the 4G sleep even does. I think it attempts to save power by sleeping if you're not using it? And the Epic Touch is known for that LOS problem. Lost of signal kills your battery because the phone is trying hard to grab some sort of signal. I don't have 4G on unless I have 4G connection and I am using it.
Every phone I've used this has been the case. Does the Nexus still work and if so could you check it it so we could learn how to save battery power?
Well I don't have a LOS problem on my epic because I never changed the kernel. I'm running stock rooted. Luckily I haven't experiences Los yet.
And the nexus comparison can't really be made because they have different hardware. It was a single core so it required less power for the CPU, as well as for the brightness (different display technology)

Have you thought about maybe getting some extended batteries? Look on amazon.com. Samsung has a 2000 mAh on there and Seidio has a 3200 mAh that comes with a new back cover because the battery makes your phone fatter.

I don't have a problem with my battery life. I actually get fantastic battery life compared with some other users that are posting on xda. But my question was more of a technical one as to why 4g uses more power than 3g on this phone, when 4g used less power than 3g on the nexus s.

I'm not in a fringe signal area, but even if I were, i don't think it would make a difference because i'd be comparing both phones in the exact same conditions. Thus, if all else is the same, the only variable (the only thing thats different) is the phone.
But thats good to know that the EK02 update improves it a bit. I'm still waiting for my OTA notification. Haven't received it yet :-/

I have both devices and you can't really compare the two. I have great 4g signal where I live. The Nexus has much weaker signal than Epic Touch for me. I did do the WiMax tweaks on ET4G to make it connect faster, changed timeout, and lowest signal detected so maybe that's why I am having better results. I mentioned fringe signal because if phone is bouncing between 3g and 4g, that crushes battery. PM me if you want my WiMax settings

I use 4G frequently while at work. I obviously don't use my phone as much while I'm at work as when I'm not, so it's tough for me to get a good comparison.
It does seem to me when downloading bigger items, like ROMs, 4G will take up more battery than 3G even though it will certainly take longer on 3G to accomplish the same thing.
And for what it's worth, I do get a good 4G signal while at work too, so it's not like it's bouncing back and forth between 3/4G.

Thanks for all the replies (literally). I've seemed to notice exactly what your saying though, I was just wondering because I heard somewhere 4g drains less battery in high signal areas. I usually get 2/3 4g bars, so id say mine is ok, but it definitely drains faster than 3g

It doesn't make much of a difference for me. Probably though because my school is so close to a 4G tower? I mean I can literally see it.
4G is a seperate radio so would require more power. 3G is tied to the CDMA radio. Wifi uses almost no power when connected. So I get days of standby on weekends at home on wifi.

Funny, my device gets the opposite with 3g vs wifi. My sleep policy is set on 'never', but wifi has drained the hell out of my batter since Froyo. It's nearly as bad of a drain as 4g, when I was in a 4g area to test.
+1 and also since froyo. How I long for the wifi battery sipping days.

4g spectrum runs at a higher frequency rate than 3g. Therefore, 4g will drain ur battery a lot faster, especially if u have weak or weaker signal strength. Wifi, is low aplitude frequency rate, meaning..it an open frequency , therefore, does not require much power for high speed. 3g is moderate frequency rate. Just to clearify..3g and 4g are cdma, depending on carrier. Support information regarding can be allocated at www.phonescoop.com

I have no doubt you are technically accurate and it could be the implementation and how they are managed. If I take a full battery and leave one of these on at a tome...as of stock froyo (I think some roms may have had different results) and all gb 3g certianly is usong about half the battery being used as 4g and wifi consistantly uses more.
Sammy should talk to u guys n get theeir sheit fixed.

it also has to do with power time managment in the kernels. i discovered that between the different kernels i have tried and xda. you just have to play with the different roms and kernels and see which gives you better results.
I just recently purchased an epic 4g touch on sprint with their unlimited plan and every where I go I usually get full bars but still can't go faster than 9kb/s once I hit around 30 but over been hearing people get around 200-300 anyone know what I can do to increase my speeds. Also note I don't have 4g in my area so that's not an option

I think the signal bars prioritize 1x (aka 2G) for phone signal, rather than actual data speeds. I also heard signal strength isn't as big of a concern with CDMA as it is with GSM. (Meaning CDMA can reach farther, I think.)

Has Sprint's signal always been...lacking there? Or has it suddenly gotten that bad? My guess if it you used to have good speeds, then there must be an outage somewhere. You can try all of the 3G and 4G modifications to see if they work better. Also flashing each modem 1 by 1 and testing each one can help some. But overall, you wont see much of an improvement because signal usually has to do with Sprint's end.
Haven't tried flashing each modem but ive done modifications to my 3g settings ive even tried going into data programming and changing the port it connects to. Sprints coverage might have degraded out here it wasn't too great to begin with I get stuck in roaming alot lately

I just remembered. Sprint offers airaves to people with bad signal at home. An airave hooks up to your riuter or modem and broadcasts sprint signal within a few hundred feet. I'd suggest asking Sprint for one. I also heard you can use them as an upgrade line when you want a new phone. Lol

It can be a number of issue you can determine ONLY yourself. I'd flash back to a stock ROM of your choice, along with EL29 modem (my personal favorite). Try out the 4G connection and see if it works then. It can also just be that the 4G towers around you are down or not working properly. Give clearWire a call if you have concern.

Ok true he did say modem so I take the builds part back. But in all honesty this has nothing to do with either. It happened on all my 4G Wimax phones. And I doubt there's a fix besides toggling 4G off and on. 4G Wimax always had this happen from time to time in my experience with other phones besides the E4GT.
Edit: also I've noticed it happens a lot when your 4G connection is only at one bar. So I guess coverage plays a role in it.

Could be that he is indeed under weak wimax signal or near the edge of it. He prob has his settings to connect above the -89dbm. So it connects but cant process it.
I think it's just wimax. I'm in Tyson's corner, VA on the Beltway heading towards Maryland. moving from a 3G network, connecting to a 4G Wimax but it's probably for about 20 seconds, then I'm probably on the edge of it. So it seems like it connects but never gets internet connection, unless I toggle the 4G button again.
