So, is it possible that someone somehow will manage to deal with hardware acceleration in ics on desire WITHOUT any manufacturer's involvement?
And if not, is it even remotely possible that ardeno would decide to release a driver working on ics?
Who is Ardeno?

No, I think Terepin had the right idea. THIS is "Ardeno". Though why that guy should be able to build us some GPU drivers is beyond me.
I obviously meant adreno the gpu line, but having hoped to get a serious answer here was foolish, as it requires a tiny bit of knowledge which, quite obviously, none of you have, and honestly, I think nobody does. Still, I thought maybe I've missed something

No, I was asking who is Ardeno, not Adreno. And how can GPU decide to release drivers is beyond me.
I strongly advice you to find some kind of hobby, or any kind of activity for that matter, so you can stop wasting your time creating garbage posts, which are not witty NOR bright, believe me...
Man, you're a hypocrite.
Even if we overlook the spelling mistake, your idea that Adreno might release GPU drivers is ridiculous. Adreno is a graphics chip inside the Qualcomm SoC, not a person or a company. If you'd said Qualcomm might release some drivers, you would have at least been semantically correct, but even so the chances of Qualcomm releasing Adreno 200 drivers for ICS are absolutely ZERO, since no phone with that GPU will ever "officially" run ICS. Or did you think they release drivers for fun?
I think it's quite obvious what I meant, and you don't need to be a douche as there are far better solutions for your low self-esteem.
Sure they won't release a driver if no adreno 200-powered device is meant to run ICS, but checking mobile technology news or rumors is definitely not in my daily routine. That's why I've asked you silly geeks of xda.

See, believe it or not.. these "silly geeks of xda" actually do have lives, and from what I can gather, much more important ones than you.. so please stop wasting everyone's time, and xda's Q&A Section space with your nonsense and fairytale pipe dreams of a major corporation releasing drivers for what is pretty much already obsolete hardware, that was never intended to run any software past FroYo.
How nice, implying one life is more important than another. That's something a lowlife would say

Wow they actually said that!? Mate I am so sorry for ever doubting you, I mean last time I checked twitter was technology news central with the most up-to-date information on everything, with no possibility of anyone making any untrue comments, I mean after all.. this is the internet - the source of the most accurate facts and figures to be found anywhere on the planet, with no chance of anyone posting what the hell they like due to strict policing methods..

Since tom has posted this, most probably its real. And he is planning to release beta version soon.
What do you think is it real? If so it is a very good news for hd2 users.
Note:- I resized the pic so that its clearly visible.
if you consider that the HD was at first a WM7 test device.
and now HD2 is a MS Test Device. I would not be suprised at all to see this released.
Just because something is not getting an "offical" release does not mean anything.
I am not sure if XDA knows what the words "official release" means.
well pretty sure we knew it wouldn't be official but a test rom is EXACTLY what devs have been looking for since this debacle actually began
I can't wait for the release and that means the touch hd2 actually looks like a winner for me as the first wp7s device
but some questions
can one flash back to wm 6.5 or are we stuck
some more questions but good news time to blog!
I'm thinking this is legit. I was holding off on buying a HD2 but if this gets released, I'll be running to the nearest T-Mobile store.

very cool will pick up an hd2 if price is right. But will have to deal with edge as the fuhrur said. Maybe import from telstra.
What the hell? That's supposed to be the interface of WP7s? With those gigantic font sizes? One word per line?
What's the point of having 800x480 pixels if you use 60-point fonts? 5 lines of agenda per screen? Will it be able to display one calendar month in a single screen or will you only be able to look at 4 days at a time?
This is an interface for short-shighted people?
Hell, fortunately the people designing Windows 7 does not think that the people purchasing computers are 5-year old children, or 85 year-old. That is scared by more than 5 lines of text on a screen or having to think where to put their files.
I'm not going to purchase a new phone that is a tamagotchi for 5 year old children. Use have been using computers at home for 20 years, we're in 2010, not 1984...

well hopefully this is real. does anybody remember windows mobile on iphone?
Might be sensible to hold off from overly wild celebration just yet - I believe that if we do choose to flash it, there is no way back due to some fundamental changes in the bootloader.
Personally I'd be interested to have a look at it if I knew I could get back to something tried and tested again. Still, I'm sure the good people working on it will figure out a solution if we give them time and space.
I just hope it doesn't turn into an 'xda special' - a bunch of impatient ingrates hassling the developers to release it and then accusing them of being con artists if they don't do it in a timescale that suits...

Sadly, I won't get it til general availablity and I don't know which phone. Microsoft peeps are still being cagey with it. The guy wouldn't even let me take a pic of a LG WP7 device even though it's been all over the internet already. The only real new info I've gleaned is that they will support basic exchange policies like pin unlock and remote wipe. Still going to try and fenagle some more info out of them.
WTH? Congratulations!!
cool can i have it?
Congrats!.........
Depending on what they say, I might just get a HD2. The WP7 device is supposed to be general availability and they might make devices available before then and I'm not willing to wait.
niceeee
thats lucky and awesome!

After having seen it in person, the whole OS is rather impressive. While it may not on paper be the #1 phone OS, it is rather good and will put up a good fight. Oh and they've only shown off around 70% of the OS's features. More positive info will come to light as we near launch.

I think I've always been relatively positive about the new OS. While some of the new restrictions are annoyingly restrictive, I don't think it'll be a problem for us. In one of the sessions today they showed off how devs will be able to unlock phones and it was just a desktop app that talks to the store. I can easily see this app being modified to just not talk to the store but I'm betting there will need to be more done than this. So while I still wish MS would open up the dev platform more, I somewhat respect the decisions they've made and I don't think it will be hard for the rest of us to have phones we can do as we wish with.
It was stated earlier in the week by one of the members of the WP7 team that only 70-80% of the OS had been shown off up to this point. However, after going hands on with a device for a while today, I didn't find much that we haven't seen yet. The whole thing is fluid and is super intuitive. It really is a joy to use. So I'm not sure how much is left to unveil but it seems rather useable today. But none of the WP7 guys that I talked to are using it full time yet so that's kind of telling.
nice... congrats... HD2 is still better looking then any of the WP7 phones we've seen... the only one that beats it is the prototype images of HD3 made in photoshop lol... dell lightening comes close, but hw keyboard kills it as well... just get the HD2, then u'll have to option of running 6.5 or android (90% possible so far) and prolly even wp7 when it comes out since it conforms to all specs ...
Pics or it didn't happen!
Jeeze. Necro thread!
I ended up deciding to wait for a WP7 device. The HD2 they had was a european model and couldn't do 3G here. A smartphone without 3G is useless. So I wait til October like everyone else. But at least it will be free.

Not all the specs, AFAIK the chipsets in the HD2 do not conform to all the hardware specs that Microsoft has made for Windows Phone 7 compatibility. Things like the hardware image scaler for example are not present in the HD2, nor is support for hardware acceleration of the VC-1 codec.

If it supports your phone, it will be an over the air update when its released sometime next month.

You can buy at a stand
But Desire won't get any updates, only custom ROM (hopefully).
You probably own an HTC Desire since you posted this question here... then you'll have to wait just like the rest of us for our awesome developers to port the ROM over.
We are not gonna get any over the air update since HTC ended their support for our device already.

Well it released Feb last year, but I agree that HTC really messed up with the Gingerbread update, Desire owners deserved that one done properly.
As for ICS, can't really expect HTC to support the Desire that far... it'd be the third major update.

Because it wasn't released as a normal, OTA update. Instead, HTC released a very late, buggy version via their website, and so your average desire owner probably doesn't even know a GB update exists.
That's because with OTA they couldn't delete content from system. And it ain't more buggy than FroYo, in fact it's less buggy than FroYo.

Sure, it's less buggy than froyo, but you would expect that, really. Some of the bugs that I really thought would be addressed were still present.
And you can't deny that when a manufacturer releases an update that has warnings and disclaimers on it, it hasn't been done quite as smoothly as Samsung/Apple.
Because of memory constraints (duh!).
No chance of ics on HTC desire unless ported thru custom Rom
If HTC will remove gapps, then it will be easily possible, even if with old Sense.
Rooted and get an custom ROM will give you ice cream earlier. Forget HTC.
Doubt very much if we will see ICS on Desire...
ICS is optimised for dual-core and also features virtual keys. There is already speculation on the Sensation boards whether they will see the update, due that device using soft keys.
I imagine HTC will tweak ICS to run on Sensation, but can't see them adapting to Desire. Too many deficiencies to be addressed.
Hoping our awesome devs will be able to at least port various bits and pieces from Android 4.0 for us to enjoy, though!!

Well we will probably, just that we won't see it from HTC as they dropped support for Desire.
Because ICS will essentially work with any phones that can run Gingerbread (not just dual-core). And apparently ICS checks if your device have hardware keys or not, if there is, they will not display the virtual keys. And i can't really see Google being so stupid to only restrict ICS to phones without hardware keys as there are essentially no other phones besides the galaxy nexus that do not have hardware keys.
Also, we already have a port of ICS SDK, here. Its not usable or perfect, but at least it proves that the Desire can run ICS.
Hey Guys, I have One X almost month and I was the one who was glad to have device without any issues. Everything was great but now my screen starts to flicker. So I want to ask WTF is it possible to start to have issues when it was OK and not faulty device?
I know it's tedious to have to plod through long threads but this has been asked and answered about a dozen times. The flickering is random. So devices that weren't flickering can start days or weeks later. HTC said on May 2 they identified the issue so I'd imagine we're getting closer to an update that'll correct it.
So it is software issue?
I really believe its in every HOX device.

It's not. Mine's never flickered. The Asus Prime which is also Teg3 had the same problems at launch. It's illogical that devices using identical h/w and s/w that were built at the same time should perform differently but they do. Some Prime's had graphics issues and some didn't; just like the One X. The general consensus is that it has to do with variations in the Teg3 chip with some of them being at the low or high end of tolerances. When the s/w receives a response outside the range it's expecting it borks. It also explains why this might not have come up in testing if all of the early chips supplied to HTC by Nvidia were carefully screened and had very tight tolerances. Not defending HTC, but this is an Nvidia issue. The XL has none of these issues and uses a different CPU/GPU. Since Nvidia’s code and drivers are proprietary they’re also the ones that have to come up with the fix. Asus rushed out updates but they actually made things worse. Hopefully the delay is HTC being more methodical and trying to get it right the first time.
the flickering is not as random as you guys think, its happening at high temperature for devices that are flicker free out of box (45 degree and over)
clearly has to do with the health of the chip you are getting (chips differ in thermal room ahead based on yields) and clearly has to do with the backlight power management thing in Tegra3 (PRISM)

Here’s a nice little late-night rumor for you to dream about while you slumber. There’s been some talk that HTC is readying a 5.3-inch Galaxy Note challenger of their own by the name of the One XXL (double x’s for a double dose of pimpin’). Other than its gargantuan size, we really haven’t heard much else.
Well, a new leak is flipping everything we once thought, showing us that the HTC One XXL might not be 5.3-inch device we hoped for. Instead, it could be a souped up version of the HTC One XL (our version of the international Tegra 3 One X). The details were “revealed” in the below screenshot (top image is just concept art) and shows off all the specs that make a Phandroid’s heart flutter. We got a 4.7-inch display, quad-core Qualcomm S4 processor, 2GB of RAM, 8MP camera and 1.8MP front facing camera.
Of course, this sorta stuff is pretty easy to fake with a little time on your hands, and a few simple XML edits. Still, I can’t help but think if this device were true, and it comes to Verizon/Sprint/T-Mobile later this year, maybe that would take some of the sting out of missing out on the regular old One X. Wouldn’t you agree? Grain of salt, people!

Hope this can be the right forum. Will try to post all the sources of this info in a links below.
It's generally assumed this is a fake and is in no way to be thought of as official. You can see the text in the settings is the wrong font for a start
