hey there,
I had my evo replaced under warranty about 3-4 months ago and opted in to the insurance at that time. since i got it, the camera has been flaky -- sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
My question: If I take the phone in to be replaced, will I get an evo 4g back or a different phone since they are at end of life?
I am ready to go ape**** for a new phone (instead of refurb) as I told them I really didn't want a refurb last time and its had camera problem, the front screen has always had light shining up out of the corners, etc.
would love it if they bumped me to a 3d since they will be getting ice cream sandwich.
thanks.
I've heard that all replacements are 3D's from here on.
You may get real lucky....but I doubt it. I just had my OG EVO stolen in DC right out of my work truck on Wednesday and Sprint put me through to Asurion. Asurion sent me a 0003 refurbished (really fast BTW) and its been bootlooping all weekend when I never had one issue with my 0002. I called them and they sent me another which is waiting for me @ home as we speak. I guess what I'm trying to say is, since your EVO is defective, they might swap it @ store but will prob be a refurb. Good luck.
via EVO.
They may not have any more new og evo. They have a crap load if refurbished ones. So unless they room out of refurbished, you wouldn't get a 3vo unless you are lucky.
You need to have it replaced 4 times in 6 months to get a different phone. they still have plenty of Evo4G's. They even have Heros left still.
Yeah we just did an insurance claim for my wifes evo last week. She got another EVO. She had the white one and got a black one this time. With as many evos that have been sold and sent in for insurance claim, I'm sure they will have plenty to go around for quite a while

You will get a refurb evo, they have plenty of them. You will not get an evo 3d, the two phones are way different to be offering them as a replacement.
You guys are totally wrong. I checked on Asurion today, and the website said that the replacement for my EVO would be a 3D. I'm not switching, but you can get a 3D if you're lucky.

3d only has a 5mp camera and no separate hdmi port, therefore it is not an equal replacement.
Just checked no 3d maybe later

It is a definitive upgrade. MP count may be lower but I've seen comparisons with the 3D offering better pics.
The only reason it wouldn't be considered an "equal replacement" is because its actually an upgrade.

When you check it online, does it tell you what kind of replacement you'll be getting before they lock you in? for example, if it says I'd be getting an OG, do I have 30 days to complete the claim, or is it an incomplete claim? Can I just keep checking it until it says 3vo? Also, what happened to billing the deductible to my account? Back in the day they would allow the deductible to be billed, but now they only take it direct over the phone.

No, it doesn't tell you. You can call Asurion and ask, but again, they have plenty of OG evo's last time I checked. And no, you cannot just "keep checking" until they give you a 3d. Insurance is NOT an upgrade program, it's a replacement program.

Yeah, I believe they changed that about 2 years ago. Kinda sucks having to pay the deductible up front now.

It's official.
Last week on Wednesday i lost my white OG EVO, went through Asurion online and filed a claim, 12 hours later i got a new 0004 black OG EVO even though in the email notification i got it said that my order was going to take couple of days because my phone wasnt in stock.
Both my father in law and my wife got their OG Evos replaced with 3D's. I was going to claim insurance also and was told by asurion that i would be getting a 3d. I dont know why they are giving them to some and not others.
You can start a claim online and it will tell what they are replacing your phone with. If its not a 3d then just exit and nothing happens.

I didn't opt in for the insurance when I got the phone on release day.
The GPS is causing the phone to reboot.
How can I get the phone replaced???
Thanks

Nothing you can do about it now, your warranty is over and you can only add insurance during the first 30 days of the phone. Every once in a while Sprint/Asuiron will do an open enrollment, allowing anyone to get insurance, but I believe they just had one a few months ago, so probably not again for a while.
Edit: actually, since you cant get it replaced, have you tried a factory reset?

Hey all, I was wondering if you think Sprint would give me a hard time for wanting a replacement evo due to mine having screen separation issues? My phone was not dropped or anything of that nature. No physical damage at all.

I doubt that they would give you much trouble about wanting a replacement under the manufacturer's warranty. You can look forward to receiving a refurb from the sprint warehouse at this point however.

they sent me a refurb initially only a week after release and the g-sensor didnt work. subsequently after a ***** session with assurion i got a complete brand new unopened package. ;-)
I wouldn't mind a refurbished phone as long as there's no separation. Also, would it be an 003 hardware phone? Mine is currently 002 seeing as how I got the phone on release date. And they wouldn't happen to send an already 2.2 phone cuz I want root..>_>

The refurb I got from my sprint store this morning is a hardware version 003 running eclair (2.1). Keep in mind that it will most likely take a few days for them to get a replacement in from the warehouse for you.

I thought assurion only handled insurance claims?
I didn't bother to make a scene about getting a refurb since it was essentially my fault that the phone was bricked to begin with. I was happy to get a working phone without any out of pocket expense. I would have been happier if it was a brand new one obviously. My only complaint about the refurb is that the kickstand has a few scratches on it.

I'm holding off for now hoping that someone will buy it off me so I can get an epic. I got to play with one this morning and I think I'm in love.
Should I go to the sprint store orhave them mail me a new one? I just want to be able to get root back.

I went to a Sprint repair center in the Dallas/FT Worth area this afternoon. I've got two bright spots on the screen itself and some separation at the base of the phone.
They didn't have any phones in stock to replace it, so they gave me the option to have the screen replaced or to replace it when they get one in stock. To prevent losing root, I opted for the screen replacement option.
While discussing the repair, the rep said that the screen replacement part includes the plastic screen cover, the LCD panel and the outside bezel. Fixes both problems.
Oddly, they would do the full replacement if the only issue I had was the separation problem. Apparently they can fix the light leakage problem, but only at another facility. To keep clients happy, they replace the entire phone.
The screen replacement is a 5 minute job, or so I was told.
Long story short, you shouldn't have any problems getting it replaced. The Sprint people are aware of the issue. However, you will get a refurb or new unit and may get a Froyo 2.2 OS build that can't be rooted (yet).
Yeah, I don't think they'd cause a huge problem. Well, I'll give sprint a call tonight and see what they tell me.

I was within my 30 days when they ordered my replacement evo. This was done about 15 calendar days ago. Now I am out of my thirty days.
They say that they will call me when they get one in stock.
It just occurred to me that if they haven't had one in stock for two weeks for my replacement then they could not have sold any either. Lol
How believable is that?
Something tells me that if I send my girlfriend in to act like she wants to sign contract and purchase an evo, suddenly they will have one in stock.
I might actually do this, with me hiding around a corner until I see that evo that isn't in stock
Bad thing is that I am exchanging this because of the charging issues. I bet my new one has the same issue, if nothing Else they will have more incentive to look at the charging issues...with folks exchanging these over these issues.
Since then, I have got the two 1800mah China bats with chArger and battery hasn't been a problem since. But I'm still waiting for my Damn replacement.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
that would depend on when sprint ships them more
go to a service center, they have special stock set aside just for them and they are brand new, they dont come in the box but the device itself is brand new.
So apparently there is a shortage of evos?
Kinda silly isn't it?

Probably slim and with luck unless u buy a new one. But most likely they will give u a refurbished one.

its a launch day evo since i got it this is the only problem i have had
I had an Evo with a broken USB port, I took it to Sprint & told them. The guy didn't even look at it, it's a pretty common problem. He just looked up my info & wrote it down. He put in an order & I asked him if I could get a new (not refurbished) one, he said yes. I came back the next day & picked it up. Easiest thing I've ever done, and it was free. But I have insurance.

It's probably still a referb. Like the other poster said it's almost assured that you will get a referb phone. Unless they grab one from the back out of a box then it's most likely referb

This was right after a new version came out. The tech even commented on how he hadn't got to mess with one of the new ones yet. I couldn't root with unrevoked because they hadn't cracked it, so I think it was a new one. Either way it went nuts before I got a chance to root it & now I'm on my third. If this one's a refurb then I don't really care because it's the only one that hasn't pooped on me.
Hey guys.
I've been thinking if I should even keep my insurance on my EVO. If my screen breaks, it's $35 (without insurance). If it doesn't, I just spend $84 on nothing every year. I'm rooted BTW.
Can someone help me make up my mind seeing how I can't do it myself? Hahaha. Seriously, can someone who knows the insurance policy help me out?
If you plan to flash other roms, kernels, mods, etcetera, keep your insurance.

I would keep it. Yeah, it's $84 a year, but I've used mine twice so far. While the issues I had probably could've been covered under warranty, I saved a lot of Excedrin by having insurance. One of the phones had a software problem on the stock not rooted rom, which I'm sure would've been a pain to get replaced without insurance.

This is my 3rd Evo. The first 2, my screen went out. Sprint replaced them because it was within 30 days. I flashed CM7, have a nandroid of the stock rom, I know how to unroot and haven't had any problems with this one. I don't know. I feel like I'm trying to convince myself because I'm cheap, but you guys do make a point. Does anyone know how much it costs if my USB goes out (without insurance)? I'm probably going to keep it, but out of curiosity.

Better Safe
Worst comes to worst and you do run into a situation its better to have it than not. I'd say keep it, if you lose or someone steals your phone atleast you won't have to come out of pocket with so much.
Insurance on ANY smartphone is a MUST these days. Too many things can go wrong and it's better to be safe than sorry

Just keep it for peace of mind, if it bricks then say you lost it. If you lose it say you lost it. Anything happens to it, you're good. Don't be cheap you bought a killer phone obviously you have some $ right.

Cracked screens are no longer repaired in Sprint repair locations at all. It is now handled by Asurion, with the $100 deductible.

I think my phone heard me threatening to take off the insurance, hahaha. It froze on the boot screen for a LONG time. This is the first time it happened to me. I just took the battery out and turned the phone back on. It's fine now, just scared me.
BTW, the $35 for screen repair I was talking about wasn't about Sprint (I don't know how much their prices are). I was talking about a cell phone repair shop in my area. Those guys told me they would do it for $35 (this includes labor).

My sister recently ditched her Droid Incredible in favor of a Iphone 4. (blasphemy I know) The reason being, The power/sleep button no longer works. Since she no longer needed the Incredible, she gave it to me! I've been enjoying having a Android device to play around with but the lack of the power button has been killing me. I have not turned the phone off in over a month and have to use a tweak that wakes the device with the trackpad/volume buttons. Now here is the question. She had a warranty on her Incredible that goes up on the 25th of this month. Can she still replace her old Incredible even though she is Using a white Iphone 4? By the way, She wasn't scheduled for an upgrade to get the Iphone, instead she stole the upgrade from my brothers line and somehow applied it to her line. Just putting that out there in case it helps. I'd like to have her phone replaced so i can start rooting the device and flashing custom ROMS to it. I am also learning Java so I can develop for Android, thus, I really need a future proof Android device that won't conk out on me for testing any apps that I plan on making. Thanks for any help!
Take it in, the worst that can happen is they say no.
As in take it in to a store? I was hoping we could just mail it in. Our last experience with the goobers at the verizon store was not enjoyable at all. They are usually noobs who only know how to do a factory reset...

Doesn't sound like you are getting a warranty replacement. Sounds more like a warranty repair you're going to have to pay for but I've never called in for warranty personally.
call verizon and if the warranty is still good they usually will next day you a phone
