wifi router port forwarding - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

My first thread here. Any Way I apologize if I missed something in my searching around bout I have Energy Rom on my TP2 and I was wondering if there was a way to configure port forwarding. at least for port 443 to my laptop. I run an exchange server on my laptop and would like to be able to get the sync working even when I am not at home. plus allow my friends to be able to access services from my laptop when I am away from home. As a side note does anyone know hoe to get Exchange server to sync or backup all of the txt messages on my phone not just the recent ones? If you do it would be a great help! I am in the process of working with Android on my phone and switch back and forth and that's why I am using Exchange to sync data between them. I hate having half the conversation in one OS! I am willing to experiment I am backing up with PIM Backup but want to be able to view my entire archive if I need to with without having thousands of messages on my phone. Slows it down just a little
P.S. I am on Boost's network which is run by Sprint. Wasn't sure if that mattered.
P.P.S. Dear Mods I just noticed I accidently posted in the wrong section. Please forgive a noob poster. I looked for a way to move it but did not see one. If you would be so kind to either move it or please let me know how I can.

A little help

Hi guys, and great forum.
At the outset mods should feel free to push this is the appropriate forum.
I seem to have fallen in love with the xda orbit/P3300. I run 2 websites and am more and more often away from home these days that my trusty nokia N73 just aint cutting it for web access.
So I have looked about at something more mobile web access tailored and bumped into this. My questions to help me:
I'm currently with Vodafone, not due an upgrade til November. I could buy the phone sim free, unlocked. Having searched the forum I see that it should work when the Voda settings (wap, mms) are entered. Is this correct?
I hear that some folk have been caught out with hefty data charges because the phone always uses gprs constantly. Again, is this right?
This probably isn't suitable for this forum, but if data charges could be an issue, would it be better to go with someone like T-mobile that give unlimited access?
Finally, having read the manual, i'm a little confused with the messaging email set up. Are texts sent immediately when you tap send? Are mms saved until you next go "online" with wap? When i want to pick up emails, can i do as i do now, connect remotely via wap to my BT server and pick up on demand, or will it always automatically do that on connecting to wap.
My apologies for the questions, and hope one of you good folk can help me out.
Thanking you in advance
Mike
Hi MikI,
It doesn't matter what device you use, as long you have access to the wap and mms gatewats, so with you vodaphone sim you should be able to.
Some software once installed (weather apps, etc) can be configured to automatically download new updates and thus incur charges without you knowing it. The phone itself has nothing to do with that.
It's really up to you with what data plan suits you, if you constantly use gprs, then you should know that getting a flatrate plan is the best thing to do, again it depends on your usage.
Yes SMS messages are immediately sent when you tap send. For MMS you can configure it to either connect automatically and send your message immediately once you tap send or to wait once you go online and then send it.
Hope that helps, just my 2 cents.
Cheers.
If your main motivation is mobile web, I would look into getting a UMTS phone..GPRS might not do the trick for your needs.
Hello gang, and thanks for your replies - they are really helpful.
Web access is one of my motivations, but the main ones I have is being able to pick up my emails from the ISP (and going on web if they emails say I have to), and the organiser functions.
Web access is really restricted to things like google searches for numbers etc, if i had to do some serious web browsing it would only be to my sites and I would hope few and far in between.
Now the choice between sim free, or a new contract
Thanks all again, and if anyone can suggest anything i may not be considering or missing about this handset I'd be most grateful.

what programs are u using on ur dash

Essential Software
Well, I am sure this is a common question with any new phone. I have been trying to transfer some of the applications such as Pocket Plus, MS Streets, etc. from my sister's PPC and I have been unable to do so due to incompatibility. What software do you guys recommend that is compatible for the Dash?
I would like an e-mail software that works over Wi-Fi rather than T-Zones. I do not have the data service from T-Mobile but am constantly covered by Wi-Fi from my school.
In addition, I would like something that would keep my finances in check. I had a software called SplashMoney for the Palm that would synchronize with my bank account everytime I AutoSynched so that my account would automatically be updated. Anything like that for the Dash?
Finally, I am wondering if there is a MS Streets program for the Dash? As a new resident of Boston, I am constantly getting lost in this web of streets. Something to guide me from A to B would be essential.
Thanks again guys...
Using the e-mail on the dash will use the WiFi if you have a WiFi connection. Make sure your e-mail is setup to connect using "The Internet" and it will use WiFi and if you don't it will use T-Zones.
However I would wait for someone else to confirm what I'm saying just to be safe.
Good to hear. Do you know exactly how to set that up?
What e-mail domain are you wanting to setup?
What do you mean by domain? I am using my school's e-mail service with the following information.
pop.ufl.edu
smtp.ufl.edu

Use this to help you setup your account.
Hmm in that case, you may browse around on your schools website and look for directions on how to setup pop3 e-mail programs with your schools e-mail service.
There are a lot of online resources for you to look into, maybe start with http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/default.mspx -- take a look at sites like http://www.handango.com to get an idea of the software available. Sounds like you're used to homework, you have some more now
Wow guys, thanks. The e-mail is working perfectly. I wish it had the ability of setting up 2 outgoing servers within the same account so that you could just choose what account you'd like to send from, like Outlook on the computer. But having 2 separate accounts isn't too bad.
Thanks again guys.
Voice Recorder
I see a Voice Notes program on the Dash, which will record both sides of a conversation for 60 seconds during a phone call.
However, when you try the Voice Recorder application located in the Accessories folder, it doesn't allow you to record during a phone call. The record option is simply unresponsive. But, as soon as the call ends (even when you are still in the app), you're allowed to record.
My question -- if someone knowledgable about these things would be so gracious enough to answer -- is this: Could there be a registry entry that allows you to record during conversations?
Just poking around I found a binary for: HKLM/SOFTWARE/HTC/Recorder
I have no idea what it's for. Maybe this can't be done? Thanks in advance.
(p.s. I know there are legal implications about this in certain states, etc. with notifying the other party. But sometimes when you're on the phone in a place you can't take notes and you're receiving directions, important info, phone numbers, etc. it would be so nice to simply say "hold on a sec, i wan't to record this.")
Voice Notes as the name implies is for taking voice notes, not for recording a conversation.
Vocal data going through the modem is not handled by this application.
That would actually be a good idea. Having directions recorded would be a major life saver. I'm sure someone will be able to tweak around it.
Just use this instead: http://1800message.com/SPWM5CallRec.cab
website for free downloads for dash
does anybody know a good website where i can download free programs for the days? thanks in advance
omar
www.dashsmartzone.com.
Thats actually how I found this board.
this will work on ur phone...
www.surrealnetworks.com/mpx
Here is a direct link.

thanks guys, just btw, that last link is for the mda, not the dash

It says MDA but all of the apps on the page are for Smartphone Edition. Trust me it's a favorite on my dash.
thats weird, cuz when i tried downloading them, none of those programs would work? do i have to do something first?

Huge SMTP problem with WM 6.1

Unfortunately I narrowed this down to the WM 6.1 upgrade. I can no longer send emails.
+ T-Mobile Dash (aka Excalibur aka HTC s620)
+ RUU_Excalibur_WM61_Kavana_080408_WWE installed
(generally working wonderfully!)
+ 2 different Pop3/SMTP email accounts (my own domains, hosted by godaddy)
+ EMail settings set-up on the dash (not using My Tmobile as a gateway)
(SMTP uses authentication, no ssl and port-80)
Emails were working just fine for 2 years under WM5, 6. After I installed 6.1 ... receiving worked fine, and still does.
Sending emails would work for a few hours, then I would get a vague error message (error - something is wrong - check the settings or that the network is working)
For a few days I was able to sometimes get it to work if I toggled SSL for outgoing. But no more.
The only way I can get emails to send is to delete the email settings, and re-set it up again as new. Then after a few hours it fails again.
After hours and hours of playing and on the phone with tech support - we've determines that the settings are (and always have been) correct and that there are no network or hosting problems. And the phone is brand new.
The email sending worked fine until the 6.1 upgrade.
Any suggestions, insights, help, therapy, anything???
Thanks!
Please someone help out - I'm going nuts.
You should change your password because if you have been using unsecured smtp for 2 years it's likely someone has already stolen it. Turn on SSL and keep it on ;-)
Not sure why it would fail after a few hours though.

Not to sound too sarcastic - but can you be a little more vague? ; ) "tweak the settings" ... hmm. OK.
After hours and hours of troubleshooting (and I'm no newbie) with the mobile provider, hosting company etc ... I think we've reset, reconfigured just about everything.
The only thing that works - temporarily - is if I delete the entire email account from the phone, and the create a new (identical) one. It will work for a few send/receive sessions, then the same sending problem will occur ... never to recover until I repeat that process.
If anyone has any specific experience with this problem (or specific suggestions) - I'd really be grateful !
lemme get everything straight first, your saying you upgraded to 6.1 correct? and now your email account wont let u send emails correct? well is your EDGE working? can u still get on the internet with no problem?

yes yes yes yes yes
After 11 hours of testing and troubleshooting over the past 2 weeks - we've definitely covered the basics.
In case you were wondering
+ the phone is turned on
+ I am pressing the buttons on the device as opposed to trying to use tele-kinetic ability (which can be inconsistent)
+ My eyes are opened and are in working order
+ I made sure I was in no tunnels, caves, canyons or steel-concrete enclosed bomb shelters
+ I verified that my network provider (T-Mobile) did not go out of business, or suddenly remove all their cell towers
+ I verified that most my 2,000 email contacts (potential recipients) have not been abducted by aliens who also deleted their email accounts.
Also
+ This is happening with 2 different email accounts.
+ The Pop3 and smtp servers are indeed working - since
a. I am able to put the settings in my PC, and another phone device (a older sprint phone that allows me to setup pop/smtp) - send/recieve emails work fine
+ Emails were working fine before I upgraded to WM 6.1
**
+ EMails worked ok for the first 2-3 days then the trouble started.
+ I can only get emails to send now when I delete the account, and create a new one (with identical settings). This lasts for a few hours before it fails to send.
+ I've been on the phone troubleshooting with tmobile and my hosting company for hours on end - trying all sorts of funky settings and tests ...
They hosting company seems to have determined that the smtp request is never getting to them; tmobile verified in great detail that the network is working.
Their idea was something along the lines of "the email client part of upgrade of WM 6.1 seems to be deleting a security certificate" or something .
I dunno about that - but it is clear that something is going on with the email client. The network, and email hosting is just fine, as are the settings.
Hope some of this helps - and that someone has some ideas I can try.
Oh - and just to pre-empt some suggestions:
1. No I won't change to linux, a mac or an iphone - but thanks for the suggestion.
2. I have checked out that I have not transported into an alternate reality, where everything is pretty much the same as in this reality - except my emails don't work.
3. Yes, I am using a Dash/HTC s670 - the battery is charged, and I have powered down, taken the battery and sim card out, hopped on one foot and made sure I have no other software running (even on all my pc's) before I powered it back on.
4. Yes, I can make phone calls and do everything else
5. yes, I have an internet connection - and the proper one (GPRS - but have also tried this via the wifi connection.
6. No I am not talking on the phone or browsing the internet during the ill-fated email sending.
7. I am pretty sure there is no conspiracy between t-mobile and my hosting company to block me from sending emails - only from this phone.
8. There are no unusual limitations or special issues with my hosting company about sending these emails.
9. I've tried sending to myself, others, multiples etc ... no difference.
10. It happens with more than one email address/domain.
Thanks for all the help! Sincerely. Thanks. I really need to solve this.
not sure if this helps, but i too cannot send via smtp, but one thing i found out is the email account ( as i found out) i setup (which was my ISP's ..Cox Communications) blocks smtp transmissions sent via proxy (which is what you go through via edge or gprs,...not sure about wi-fi though).

I had tmobile level-3 tech support (aka as their obi-wans) conferenced in with my hosting company (godaddy) - and tmobile specifically asked about the proxy issues. Nope. Nice suggestion
PLEASE note everyone - MY issue is not merely "I can't get my emails to send" ... as if I am trying to figure out the proper settings or trying to get email sending to work for the first time
Emails USED to send until I upgraded to WM 6.1 ... for 2 years
If my settings were wrong, if there were some incompatibility between the network and my smtp server then my emails would NEVER have sent.
As it is ... they send sometimes (when I set up the email client with a new account).
wow im not sure about that one then, sorry

A lot of the senior members here (including yourself) seem to know what they are talking about and are quite helpful - despite many others answering without bothering to read the question. So thanks
I honestly and at a brick wall here. The only thing that seems to make sense is some sort of concept that involves my smtp settings being corrupted (upon saving or sending) ...
And I mean corrupted - since they work consistently for a few hours and then stop.
Other than that, I haven't a clue - neither do tmobile nor my hosting (and for once I feel sorry for them - since the time they put in trying to troubleshoot far exceeds any profit they might make from me).
i dont know if this will work or not but its a suggestion since I also own a domain with Godaddy. Sometimes even my SMTP fails though I am using WM6 and not WM6.1 so this is what i have done.
Goto www.mobisync.com and setup ur account with them. They support upto 5 accounts. Then configure ur settings according to the site.
There are 2 advantages for this. 1 is that you get push email in real time and when u send email its using mobisync servers and not the godaddy SMTP.
Also it totally free.
i am using this with no problems till now. I suggest you try it and its very easy to setup mobisync on ur cell phone...will probably take 30sec or less.
Hope this helps...cheers mate..!!
Hi - thanks for chiming in ...
actually I am not looking for "alternatives" - I am looking to solve the problem with the email client. If I need to send emails I can indeed send from my PC, or even webmail from my phone or just about anywhere else.
Sure, I can use some sort of network based email, IMAP or Microsoft exchange or whatever.
RIght now I want to solve the issue at hand. It's sort of like my trying to get about microsoft word on my PC working again, and getting suggests to type my letters in a text editor or other client. I *know* other ways exists - but this way is the one I prefer and it should be working. Clearly there is a problem and I'd like to solve it.
If no one else is experiencing this issue (in this forum), then I'll have to consider something specific with my setup/network etc .. but then again 6.1 has not been out long enough to make that assumption yet.
I appreciate the ideas and help - keep them coming - eventually we'll hit upon something.

Since you can initially send, your setting must be at least basically correct. It sounds more like the SMTP session is not being closed correctly, since deleting and recreating (which would be effectively a close) works. I would guess WM6.1 thinks the connection is still active but the server has closed it. You really need a trace of the SMTP session.
As a work around/test you need is another completely different SMTP server you can authenticate with. I suggest your home ISP. They should have one you can authenticate with for use when travelling. Try it with that. If it works there is a compatibility issue between the Godaddy SMTP server and WM6.1 so you will need a trace for us to figure out what is going on. If it doesn't work there as well, well we still need that trace.
Darn, your suggested sounded promising - and I did indeed spend about 2 hours chasing it. I tried smtp from my cable op - who is my broadband isp ... no luck - same problem. Then I got on the phone with t-mobile, using their smtp settings. Same issue.
We're all stumped.
Not sure how to do a trace of the smtp session from my device.
Again - this worked for 2 years (until WM 6.1) - at which point sending worked for a few hours then not. The only way it works again is if I create a new account with the same settings.

It's OFFICIAL- WM 6.1 is the problem !
Damn. Damn.
OK - after yet ANOTHER 4 hour marathon session with Tmobile tier 3 support - in trying everything ... SMTP email still does not send reliably
(again - starting with WM 6.1, emails simple do not send - no timeout no port errors, bounceback, security issues). The only way it sends is if I create a NEW account with the identical settings. Then it will work for several hours 2-4 ... then emails go back to not-sending.
Finally after a total of over 30 hours of testing in the last 8 days (yeah, I've got a full time job too, and had been traveling!) ... I had to go to a tmobile store and side by side test with a WM 6.0 dash. Same everything - settings etc. 6.0 works. 6.1 not.
And where would I officially report this?
Even more of a tragedy since I absolutely loved everything else in 6.1
PLEASE PLEASE (whoever does these things) - please post a fix or rom update!
Please!
Thanks

I would recommend waiting for an official release from T-Mobile or HTC before filing any bug reports.
"Hi, I downloaded a hacked beta rom from some website and it doesn't work right" doesn't usually get them moving fast.
Well, I sort of meant reporting this to whomever ported. I honestly don't know the logistics here of what ROM I have or how it came about. the point of confusion (on this point) is that the announcement and link for the 6.1 release actually appeared on a T-Mobile affiliated blog or site (forget which) - giving the perhaps mistaken impression that this was some sort of official release for the Dash - only that T-mobile was not yet supporting it. I definitely claim ignorance here.
My comment about reporting the bug - was more about letting the person/team who "ported" WM 6.1 to the Dash know about this issue. I am sure they would want to know (especially if this issue was specific to the port). Just because I posted a thread on this issue does not mean that the right people know about it yet - which is why I mentioned it.
Thanks
smtp problem with wm 6.1
is there a solution to this problem yet? I have the same problem since upgrading to 6.1. I've noticed that it appears to be related to smtp authentication. It seems to work ok on an earthlink account i have, which does not require smtp authentication.
No solution yet. Problem still persists (though intermittent). Seems to be related to 6.1 not resetting or saving a security certificate or something. But I am no expert. All I know is I can no longer rely on my Dash for SMTP email since upgrading to 6.1
i'm having the exact same issue
i have my phone setup for imap with gmail and i can receive perfectly fine, but it wont send
i delete the account and recreated it and it worked but after a few hours stop sending again
any fix?

WM7 Troubleshooting: Tips and Advice

Hi all,
I've just upgraded to the new HTC 7 Mozart on Orange and having a play around with the new WM7.
I'm finding quite a few teething problems and thought it would be best to start a troubleshooting thread to discuss the problems and potential solutions to them and that way this can act as a central hub for all queries as we get used to using the new OS!
1) Is it possible NOT to intergrate the FB contacts into People? I have too many FB friends and don't want them all in the People section, it's too big! Can't I pick and choose which ones I want?
2) Is there going to be an ActiveSync for WM7? How do I transfer all my contacts/calender appts from Outlook to the new phone?
3) I've connected the phone to my laptop and it's not recognising the phone. How can I access the memory and start transferring music etc?
These are just the first few problems I've been having and hoping that there might be solutions.
Thanks

1) There is a way, but I am not sure how as I do not have the phone.
2) There is no active sync, You need to get the outlook connector and link your outlook to your windows live.
3) You need the Zune Software installed, that is how you transfer pictures, music, videos, podcasts etc...

This was a problem before but I heard that you can set preferences with FB contacts and only get their updates, rest are ignored. I could be wrong but I don't use FB so not too sure.
2) Is there going to be an ActiveSync for WM7? How do I transfer all my contacts/calender appts from Outlook to the new phone? No, you can't sync with desktop Outlook if it is not connected to Exchange or associated with Windows Live account, aka in Cloud. Best you can do is install Outlook Live Connector and drag all contacts and calendar to the live account
3) I've connected the phone to my laptop and it's not recognising the phone. How can I access the memory and start transferring music etc? Use Zune software.

Please see my replied in RED. Damn, Omega Ra got it before me.
also, it's not wm7
it's Windows Phone 7
Thanks for the responses. I can't find the option for the FB intergration and how NOT to sync the contact!
I'll try getting Outlook Live Connector and see if that works.
Apologies for the wrong abbreviation, I'll try and change the title of the thread.
Thanks
EDIT: Actually how do I change the title of the thread?
don't forget to post some feedback regarding the phone, i'm also planning to get this one i'm especially interested in widgets, if you find a nice on/off toggle for wi-fi that can be pinned to the start screen, share it please
Here's an interesting one for you (or maybe not!). I've heard from rumours across the interwebs that you cannot upload and use your own ringtone, is this true?
If so, I suspect I will have a lot of happy people at the office but I will be very unhappy!

This is a very worrying rumour! At the moment my laptop doesn't recognise the phone at all when I connect via USB.
Presumably the Zune software will allow you to move ringtones across? I'm at work at present so I don't know, but if that's not possible that's a huge backward step!!
Found out how to cut down on the number of Facebook contacts:
From the microsoft website
By default, all of your Facebook friends appear as contacts on your phone. If you have lots of Facebook friends showing up in your contacts list, you can choose to only show friends who are already contacts on your phone. (So, if a Facebook friend is also a contact in Windows Live or Google, their Facebook information will still show up in your contacts list. All other friends will be hidden from the list.)
1 From Start, flick left to the Applications list and then press Settings.
2 Press Applications and then press People.
3 Under Include Facebook friends as contacts, press Only add Facebook information to existing contacts to filter out Facebook friends who don't already have a contact card on your phone.
Note
This option only filters Facebook friends from your contacts list in People. It doesn't change whose social updates you'll see in What's new.
I'm not due to get my upgrade till next Wednesday, but had a theory on the ringtones situation.
Firstly, I'm assuming that you can see music stored (or at least all compatible sounds) on your phone when sellecting ringtones. Where all your music is on your laptop/desktop create a directory called ringtones and put all your ringtones there. Then sync with Zune and see if you can see it.
Probably not as easy as this but worth a try.
Kind of what I was thinking as well. My tone is actually a song so I'll just sync it....
however, my Dell doesn't arrive until the 9th so I'm sure you egg heads will crack it by then

Sweet!! Nice one
Hi guys, I received my HTC HD7 about an hour ago and been playing around with it. I ran into an issue with the wireless configuration and then starting looking for solutions on this forum. Wish I hadn't! =/ I just read some of the issues affecting WP7, and I am sooOOOooo hacked off. I feel like I bought a blimmin brick now. I "upgraded" from an HTC Desire. And boy is the Desire *SO* much better in features and configurability. I really didn't think that WP7 would be so bad.
So,.,. rant over, breathe in.... the issue I have is the following. My Wifi is configured with static IP's. I've disabled DHCP on the Wifi router and I would prefer to leave it that way because otherwise it will cause a great deal of issues, because I already have a number of machines on the Wifi network using static IP's and a firewall configured only to allow those specific source addresses out to the internet. So changing all that would be a bit of an issue.
In Android its perfectly possible to configure a static IP for a Wifi connection under the Advanced settings screen. WP7 doesn't appear to have understood this concept yet... I am really quite pissed off about this oversight!
Its proof yet again that Mad Microshot, in their quest to 'simplify' life for the 'normal' users decide to cripple the OS and hide or do away with advanced features. I just feel like punching whoever decided to take that 'decision' ... hmmmppfff...
Do you guys know any way around this?
Oh, and don't get me started on copy/paste or file downloads in IE... I can't even set the start page in I.E. How Draconic is that??!!
I hope I'm not getting the wrong end of the stick here as I don't get my HD7 till next week (starting to wonder if I should bother) I can't work out what you are going through. Sorry if I have misunderstood.
Regarding your WiFi... I have static IPs here at home and 5 PCs (plus PS3, printers, phones etc) and all the settings regarding the setting of the IP's I did on the router itself. When my gf's iPhone and my WM phone connected to the wireless network all they did was put in the pass key and they were connected. The router pushed forward the settings to the device. Was very little hassle.....Is this not the case with WP7?
You do realise that with DHCP you can set specific ip addresses to be handed out to specific MAC addresses, right? So you can enable DHCP and still keep all your devices' ip addresses static except the ones you want to leave as dynamic.
As Steve Jobs would say, "It's not that big of a deal". In fact, I do this at home - certain hardware like our daughter's laptop and our 4 wireless webcams all have hard-coded ip addresses and everything else is dynamic. Works like a charm.
Try it, you might like it.
Hi guys, sorry for the rant earlier... having a bad day today...
The reason I cannot use DHCP on my wireless router is quite obscure and specific to my setup here at home. I had actually forgotten about it until I tried just now to get around the problem. I'm using a T-mobile ADSL Router and Access Point from Germany as an Access Point only. I have a separate ADSL router and a proper firewall to secure the internet gateway. Some will probably think this is overkill but I work in Internet Security so I am sadly a bit paranoid by nature.
Now, my 'DSL' router from T-Mobile... its a bit of a weird one. It was a freebie and works a treat as Access Point and has loads of coverage... that's why I like using it. But it is useless as a DHCP server if it is not connected to a telephone line. Sounds complicated? It is!
Basically, I can get it to supply an IP address to a computer or the WP7 phone just fine, but it doesn't supply the crucial DNS server details. So I'm on the network but I cannot resolve any DNS names, so I might as well not have a wireless connection. So. I'm still pissed off. I understand that Apple don't do static IP's either on the IPhone, so I must be spoiled from the Android.... hohum.
There's only two solutions for this minor dilemma; Configure a static IP AND DNS on my HD7 or get another Wifi access point....... I think I know what I'll be buying next.........

yeah, go get yourself a cisco WAP. make your life a little easier lol.
Man after my own heart. Not overkill at all sir, in fact mine is probably very similar. Thomson ADSL modem, Watchgaurd hardware firewall and then the wireless access points by Linksys (changing them soon). Even have ftp and terminal server set up.
Most machines in the house have fixed IPs but some are just dynamic. Suppose I'll just have to wait till I get mine to see what problems I encounter

1) There is a way, but I am not sure how as I do not have the phone.
2) There is no active sync, You need to get the outlook connector and link your outlook to your windows live.
3) You need the Zune Software installed, that is how you transfer pictures, music, videos, podcasts etc...

For number 2, I've downloaded Outlook Hotmail Connector. How do I use it?
Do I need to configure Hotmail in my Outlook and then start transferring the contacts/calendar appts?

[Q] First time poster....hopefully simple question

Hello,
I've had my Evo for about a year now....still not rooted, I know, sorry. I recently rooted my G-tablet, so it will probably come soon.
I'm hopeing someone here can help me (or point me to the correct place to ask) with the sync on my phone.
The other day, the phone started freaking out upon trying to sync with my exchange based email. Gmail syncing works fine, the exchange email works fine on my PC through outlook, and on my Tablet.
When the phone trys to sync it says it needs to download some rediculous amount of emails.....this number goes up every day, as I continually get new emails. It starts to download the emails, but gets stuck at 48, always seems to be 48.
The phone chugs on this until i tell it to stop syncing. I feel naked without my mobile email.
Any thoughts? I haven't changed any settings. I haven't tried to remove and re-setup the email. Maybe that would be an easy fix.
Thanks for any help, I hope to get lots of use from this forum and maybe become a contributor if I actually learn anything, haha.
We, as you haven't done, I would uninstall it, then re-try it, as it could be an easy fix.
Yea a fresh start couldn't hurt so I would give that a shot first. Also, if you have any other questions feel free to ask! You're in the right place! I remember being new here and I was clueless as hell.
