Has the mail client for the 2.3.4 OTA update different? I ask because my wife is about to purchase Touchdown ($20) to have Exchange sync push folders. The default client only syncs the inbox.
Did the update change the mail.apk? In sense 3 and sense 3.5 roms the mail.apk can push folders.
Thanks
I can click on folders to view the other exchange folders and it will then update them. But it does not automatically sync the other folders until then. I updated to 2.3.4 today and it is still the same.
The folder list does show all of my exchange folders names.
I can confirm this. She bought Touchdown
is it too late for a refund? If so, sorry dude..
She needs folder push. She sorts her mail, quite meticulously, into folders which are sorted at the server. I would have suggested Enhanced Email, and I do love that app, but it really drained my battery - despite not indicating that on the battery stats.
In any case, the mail app in 2.3.4 OTA does not push folders. I could root her phone but the last thing I want for her phone is maintenance. I just want it to work and never have to deal with it.
K-9 mail app. Try it

i personally love Enhanced Email. The support is awesome, if you have problems the guy will do anything he can to help out. I've not noticed any battery drain issues. Are you running stock? I never had issues when i was on stock, and i havent since i've rooted.

Wanted to check if anyone is having problems with the stock HTC MAIL APP after Froyo OTA Update.
I use my Desire for work emailing and usually download my emails to both my Desire and notebook. I'm aware of the previous bug in 2.1 where emails get deleted of the mail server if they are deleted from the phone.
After the OTA update, I am still able to download emails to both my Desire and notebook, but if I "refresh / check for new mail" HTC Mail deletes all previously downloaded emails in my inbox.
I tried K-9 Mail and the same thing happens!
Is there a setting that I'm missing? Appreciate any help!
I was having the same issue, but have resolved it by changing my account settings from POP3 to IMAP.
Hope this helps...

Thanks, but changing to IMAP (server port 143) didn't help.
Same thing happens. Any other suggestions?
Called the Australian arm of HTC Customer Service and surprisingly got a call back in about an hour. They did some "tests" and now acknowledge the problem and promised to call me back in a few days with a solution. Fingers crossed!
Will post results if successful for others with this problem.
Mail missing
Hi
Having the same problem and changing to IMAP did not help.
This is wery iritating.

Someone from another thread suggested a workaround by setting your native client (outlook) to NOT delete emails from the mail server after it has been downloaded.
This wont' work for me as I have size restrictions on my account.
I've just been forwarding the emails to myself and the emails get stored in my SENT folder. Irritating, I know, but at least I have a copy of it on my phone.
smpt change smtp
"smpt change smtp"
I'm not sure what you mean, could you please elaborate! Thanks.
Any fix on this yet...driving me crazy.
This sucks, I even flashed a rom from Modaco that's totally stock except it has root, did a wipe before and still have the same thing.

After the Froyo update my HTC Mail app can't connnect to my google e-mail, using IMAP. I can still use my dedicated Gmail app for this, it's only the HTC mail app that will not connect.
Spoke with HTC Customer Service earlier, supposedly they're working on a patch to get the mail app working properly. Unfortunately, no indication of when!
I posted this in another thread:
Crap. I have the exact same problem. As soon as you download to your pc from the server the emails are gone. No solution yet? There is a workaround you can go to your native client (outlook) go to advanced setting and check "leave emails on server". Until this is fixed this is all we can do.
Here is a brief tutorial for Outlook 2003:
Under the Delivery section of the Advanced tab, Outlook 2003 lets you define how to handle downloaded and old emails on the mail server.
By default, Outlook 2003 downloads your emails from the server, and in effect deletes them from the server after successful downloads. Without needing access to the mail server itself, you can customize Outlook's email deletion behavior. Outlook 2003 gives you thee options.
Checking the Leave a copy of messages on the server checkbox instructs Outlook 2003 to leave a copy of your emails on the server indefinitely. You or your System Administrator will then need to delete the emails from the mail server itself.
Complementary options can refine how long, and under what conditions Outlook 2003 should leave a copy of your emails on the mail server; I have mine set to 30 days.
Hmmm...this must not be a very common problem at all. I seached a ton of threads and can't fine any complaints about this. Why the hell is this happening only two a few of us i have no clue???
Wiped data/cache before both rom installs.
Just wiped data/cache/ext and re-installed the third different (1 bone stock rom, 1 stock with ap2sd, one cyanogen fully custom) custom rom. Same problem as before. I've not given up and will hope for a fix in the next update from HTC or a patch.
I've done the same. Tried a few different ROMs and all have the same issue of deleting my INBOX.
I've reverted back to 2.1, pity as I was getting used to 2.2. Can't work without properly functioning mail app.
Will post a solution if and when it is finally available.

Hi, just had OTA software update to 2.12.110.4 and seems to have solved the problem................ finally
Thanks, do u have a link by chance?
Hi all -
Just got the E4GT , moved from an EVO 3D.
I'm concerned because in my exchange options I don't have the ability or option to have it sync all my folders AND subfolders as well as provide a notification? like I did on the EVO 3D.
Is there another version I can flash so I don't have to sync each folder to get new mail?
Really hope there is a way as I'd be forced to take this back because I need to get my email in real time.
No one uses exchange on this device? Or everyone is too saddened by the fact that you can't sync subfolders to reply?
To my knowledge with the base e-mail application you can't sync sub folders automatically (only the inbox). I have been able to do it though with "Enhanced E-Mail", you should be able to with "Touchdown" (got Enhanced E-mail for free on one of the amazon daily free apps, so I haven't tried Touchdown), and I have also read K-9 Mail can do it (it's a free app), but I have not been able to successful connect it to Exchange yet, only IMAP and POP3. They can all be found on the app market.
If you decide to buy Enhanced E-mail here is how you can setup folders to auto sync
1. open app
2. click the menu button
3. click Folders
4. click and hold on the folder you want to auto sync
5. click Toggle sync
6. wait as the folder is synced, the app will run slow so you can only do 1 folder at a time. To my knowledge there is no way to toggle sync on all the folders, so you have to go through each one.

The reason you could do this on the EVO 3D, and that you cannot do this on the E4GT is that the EVO 3D actually setup an exchange account, very similar to how touchdown interfaces with your exchange server, and the default mail app for the E4GT only uses ActiveSync.
ActiveSync only refreshes your inbox, and you will need to manually check each subfolder for new messages. To resolve your issue, you will need to use a mail client other than the stock app.
Thanks everyone for the replies. Anyway of porting the apk from the EVO 3D to the E4GT?
just buy Touchdown, and your problem is solved..
Touchdown has a 30 day trial - give it a shot and see if you like it (because it's bloody expensive for an app... although inexpensive for what it's actually giving you). It's been on sale infrequently before so I'm planning on using the trial until it goes on sale - I reflash my phone enough anyway, plus it doesn't really work 100% for my exchange server for some wonky reason.
I have to use http exchange on my desktop outlook and the mobile outlooks never have the option for that and touchdown is the only one that at least synchs mail for me.
I also have Enhanced EMail from the FAOTD but since it only wants to do activesync that doesn't work for me. So I can't really say if it's better/worse.
If the EVO was actually creating an account (like in the settings -> accounts) for the e-mail I'd think that'd be more than an APK unfortunately so you'll be better off looking for a 3rd party solution.
sign up for the Amazon App Store; they have had touchdown on sale twice in the last few months...
I ended up getting Enhanced Email and it solves all the issues with syncing/notifications for subfolders.
Doesn't make sense for Android NOT to do this by default. Hope ICS fixes this terrible oversight.
how do u sync an outlook mail account with the epic? i have been looking for answers, but no cigar. i'm trying to sync my corporate webmail that is based off of outlook.

I am assuming that your outlook is displaying mail housed on an exchange server?
Are you running Stock or a custom ROM?
GB (EI22/EL30/FB15):
I have read that using the email.apk (the stock email application) from FroYo (android 2.2) people are having better results.
attached find the email application from EC05, save it to your sd card, use root explorer to rename the email.apk in /system/app to email.old, then copy email.apk on your sd card to /system/app.
reboot and try to connect to your exchange server.
I can't test this as I don't have an exchange server to connect to.
CM9:
here is a thread talking about exchange server email
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498149
you may be able to use the attached email.apk under CM9 as well.
Hope that helps
It looks like jdelano and I were writing at the same time. If you were looking for more beginner instructions, here is what I wrote:
The first thing you should try is the ActiveSync option in the Accounts & Sync settings. The icon looks like the four corners of a square and the name sometimes varies. You will need to enter your log in information, your network domain, and your server. Depending on your server's setup the amount of data you need to enter can be different. Usually yu will start with email and password and it will try to autodetect the other settings but if that doesn't work you will need to enter more manually. If yu have to enter the server URL it is usually the URL you would use to access Outlook Web Access. If you are lucky, the security model on the exchange server is compatible with the features of the Epic and everything will sync with the stock email, contacts, and calendar apps.
If you get an error about the security not being compatible you will most likely need to buy Touchdown for Exchange or Moxier Mail.
Let me know if this is enough information for you. If not I can do some screen-shots to try and help.
I am running stock deodexed and rooted el30..exactly what app do I use for this?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
I have exchange email and I always use the stock email app that is included with whatever rom and version. Meaning I never change the email and I don't really condone that idea because in the email app they had to upgrade security settings in the gb app.

You will need to contact your I.T. to give you the proper settings because if its exchange email you will not be able to use the account settings found in outlook for that email account because those are the "local settings" if you are on their network. You need the external settings but your I.T. would give you the proper settings by just telling them what you want to do. If they allow you to.

Thanks for the file. I got really excited when I tried this and didn't get the error that my phone wasn't compatible with the server's security settings and it looked like the syncs were all good to go. Unfortunately no data populated the email app, the calendar, or the contacts for me.
I hope others get better results.
Hello,
I'm using the latest BCM rom on my HTC Desire and even though I really like the new Email app, that comes with ICS, I found out that it only automatically syncs my main INBOX and not all the subfolders I also have on my IMAP account. My mail gets filtered upon arrival already at the server.
If I manually go to one of the subfolders I can trigger the sync, but I'd like to have this done automatically. There's no option for it in the settings. Maybe someone has modified the source to do this. If so, could you tell me how or maybe even send me your apk?
Thanks,
docnetwork
For about a year I've been using RoadSync as my Exchange email client, which worked quite well. However I'm starting to use more folders with rules that automatically shift messages as they arrive in my inbox, and RoadSync doesn't seem to pick up new messages in these folders so I miss notifications of unread mail.
Enter Touchdown - I've been evaluating both it and Moxier Mail. Touchdown seems to win based on the customization features and the fact that new mail notifications have the subject visible (Moxier just says "New Mail").
The issue is that Touchdown doesn't seem to be responding well to push email. It only notifies me of new mail at longer intervals, acting as though it is polling - even though I've got it to push during peak hours. At the same time RoadSync is getting the push notifications immediately. (Note this still happens when I turn off the other apps push notifications, it doesn't appear to be a conflict between them).
Anyone else have push issues with Touchdown email?
Follow-up: after two days experimenting with these other apps, I just re-visited RoadSync and realized the issue was that the sub-folders were no longer selected for syncronization. Did that and everything is good.
I do really like Touchdown however (not least of all because I can get a completely unified inbox which RoadSync doesn't seem to do) so if it would do push notifications properly I'd make the switch.
I use Touchdown flawlesly on my T-Mobile SGS3. My only issue is that the Touchdown email widget is fugly
Been using TouchDown for several years on various Android phones.
Works flawlessly on my SGSIII. I'll often see e-mail show up on my phone with seconds of it showing up in Outlook (sitting at my desk of course).

Same here. Bought it when it launched. I use TD for all of my email, but then use the built in exchange only for contacts and my calendar.

I been using touchdown for about a year now. The only issue I have is that email attachments get corrupted when I download the attachment and won't open. Anyone have that issue or know how to resolve
I like and have been using Touchdown since I purchased a Samsung Vibrant some years ago. IMHO there just isn't much wrong with it. I do wish it did a better job of integrating contacts and calendar ala native email on an iPhone/WinPhone7 but it does let me sync folders, download and open documents and does support multiple exchange server accounts so I'm quite pleases with it.
Yep another Touchdown user. Mail arrives instantly for me. I do have a license for Moxier and try it out as i think the interface is nicer than touchdown's but there are less options and it is slower (not receiving mail but the interface).
Just now using Touchdown tablet interface on nexus 7. Works well too.
If you're mail is from a corporate server, you might want to contact your IT dept if you're seeing lag on your phone. I believe some versions of Exchange both have issues with ActiveSync (older versions) and some of the newer ones I believe can even limit the pushing to mobile clients.
Your issue might be a server based one and have nothing to do with Touchdown itself.
I've used touchdown in my last 2 companies and it's been GREAT. The only time i saw any issue with push mail was when I tried to modify some of the peak/offpeak settings in an earlier version of touchdown... that version had a bug where if you touched the settings at all, it would never do push and would only poll... perhaps that bug still exists? My solution at the time was to wipe all the touchdown data, uninstall the app, make sure the folder on the SD card was gone, then reinstall from scratch, making sure i didn't touch any of the peak/offpeak timings or anything to do with polling.. never a problem since.

Thanks for the advice. I did a re-install and without touching the settings, push was working perfectly. Then I set weekends as off-peak, push still working. Finally, set off-business hours during the week for polling, and push STILL works. So looks like I'm good now, just have to decide if I like Touchdown better or want to continue with RoadSync.
I've been using Touchdown for years. Works great. Almost always there is no delay in pushing emails.
I do note that the custom notification doesn't seem to work, as far as choosing LED alert colors.
