[Q] Dropped phone, screen black after reboot - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've dropped by phone by about 60cms, nothing happened till then, after a few minutes by phone hanged and I pressed for reboot but after it got shutdown nothing appeared on the screen after reboot.
I'm having htc desire z with custom Virtuous Unity v1.25.0, I have my phone in warranty but due to custom rom installed, the company may deny to fix it.
The touch screen is working since I can still unlock my phone, chage its connection type and click photos, but the screen is blank.
My phone was in hard case, so no physical damage happened.
Any idea will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

If the screen is blank how can you click on pictures?

I remember where the camera shortcut is on my screen, and when i click it and then after pressing the camera key, I can hear the click sound.

Screen not turning on

Ive had this issue for over a week now. Often when I need my phone and turn it on from the Power/On button at the top, the screen stays black, it doesnt turn on. I can see the bottom hardware buttons light up and the touchscreen seems to work, I can feel the haptic feedback when pressing the screen... Assume its a connection issue - anyone had the same problem?
I have the same issue, but just turn the lock on again (hardware buttons turn off) and unlock the phone, and then the screen comes on.
Help!
This has gone really bad now! Ive tried find help on the net, but nothing so far!
I have removed the SD card, Sim. Tried with and without. I have hard and soft reset the Desire severeal times. It works well for a while, but the problem kicks in sooner or later.
Pressing the power button the buttons light up, the screen vibrates but its black, not turning on. I tried to unlock it, but without any help.
Hate to take it to T-Mob and be without a phone for another 2 weeks...
Im trying to make a hard reset by pressing the volume down + power (also the alternate press home and back and then Power). Even this is not working... is it totally bricked now?
With the Monday Bankholiday, will be ages before I get my Desire back. Awww!!
If anyone has any idea how to help, appreciate it alot!

I had the same problem with mine but in my case I dropped it on the floor but the screen hadn't any visible problem and the buttons below worked fine and the notification LED told that it worked. I sent it back to HTC and they replaced the screen under warranty. Tell us if you found another solution.
Regards, vascer.

Same thing happened to me though mine was due to me dropping my phone. I would give HTC a call in the first instance and try and get it fixed for free under warranty
My phone is rooted and has a custom rom so i am able to bypass this issue by having the phone wake on track ball and i have downloaded a few apps
screen off and lock (this is then mapped to long press on the search key
quick boot (to restart the phone, this requires root access to work)
after a few hours you get used to the alternative way to switch the screen on and off.

I had the same problem with the desire HD, happened suddenly installed nolock as a tempory solution, and was going to take it in under warranty for repair. It is caused by a stuck power button. Heres how I fixed mine. As a last resort, I removed the battery sim card cover and battery cover so that all I was holding was the Ali uni body section. with my finger and thumb I began flicking the chrome button with my nail, as if you were flicking a pea accross the table, after about 30 seconds of flicking the little chrome button popped out slightly, when holding it by your ear and pressing it you can now hear a click. Maybe a dust particle or something from my pocket caused mine not sure, but it was moisture or software related. Hope this helps someone who maybe hasthe same problem.
Paul.
i'd say give htc a call
hope u find a solution soon..

[Q] Help! Blank screen, won't turn on...

My HTC One X dropped (from about 50cm) and landed on it's screen. The screen isn't broken, but it was frozen. So I switched the phone off, since it didn't respond.
Now my HOX won't turn on anymore! After pressing the power button it vibrates shortly (like when starting up). That's it.
Nothing on the screen, it stays blank. Nothing on the soft-touch buttons, the stay dark. When connected to the adapter the charging led doesn't turn on.
The only thing I seem able to do is hold the power button for about 10 seconds, to restart the phone, but then only a short vibration follows. Nothing else.
Anybody got any ideas what to do myself? Befor I can contact HTC on monday...
:crying:

I can't tell. My screen stays blank.
BTW: I am able to open my HOX. Perhaps somebody might know what to check if it's hardware related?
(A few weeks ago I've opened my HOX to fix the well known WiFi issue, but this is definitely not related to the blank screen issue.)
Trying to connect by USB to a PC also doesn't work.
Anybody any ideas?
Sounds like you knocked something when it fell. Id call HTC and say one day you couldnt see the screen and send it off to them. They should be able to replace the screen/motherboard.

+1 as long as there's no big scuffs and you just say you took it out of your pocket and it was black they'll fix it, even with unlocked bootloader you'll be ok. Phones theses days should be able to take 50cm drops

If Sunday doesn't bring a solution, that's what I'm going to do on Monday...
Today I received my HTC One X back from HTC repair No costs
I called HTC on Monday, they picked up my HTC One X on Tuesday and I got it back one week later (on Tuesday).
They've given it a boardswap and replaced the battery (don't know why) and put the latest software (rom) on it.
I did loose all my data, apps and settings, but fortunately I had a very recent back-up available, so I'm happy again!

Horizontal line not responding to touch

My whole screen is responding to my touch in the sense that the screen recognizes that i have touched it i.e. buttons can be pressed and pages can be swiped left to right and up and down, However one portion of the screen with no appearence defects whatsoever just doesnt respond to touch, its the whole portion (horizontally from one side of the screen to the other) where the power off button is when the power button is held. The pixels are fine but it refuses to respond at all.
Any advice before i send it off for repair?
Ive tried restarting the phone and whatnot but it has made no difference.

Do you mean the status bar area? I had that and I just had the phone replaced.
No, you know the bit where it says power off? The whole button along with everything to the left and right is unresponsive
What's weird is that it started working then stopped again it's done that twice now. I hate intermittent errors as they tend to overlook them in repair...

[Q] HTC One M8 locked up

This happened to me today at work...I had just picked up my phone and was going to start Chrome to do some browsing. I accidentally hit the Camera shortcut and my screen went blank and 3 camera icons displayed. Pressing any of the camera buttons got me nowhere. Pressing and holding down the power button did nothing. I had 96%+ power remaining so I know it was not a low battery. After a minute even the camera buttons disappeared and the screen was completely blank, no status lights either. I plugged in the power cable, pressed the power button...still nothing. So I put the phone down and let sit there for 5 minutes. I eventually heard the T-Mobile jingle and the phone rebooted itself.
My phone is stock and I have not done anything exotic to it. Anyone come across this issue or know of a way to prevent/fix it?
That sounds very bizarre to me. Might want to check out any apps hogging resources.

I put a memory tool on the phone so I'll see what it shows if my phone locks up again. I do have SnoopWall and a call blocker installed so maybe I have an issue there.
