This happened to me today at work...I had just picked up my phone and was going to start Chrome to do some browsing. I accidentally hit the Camera shortcut and my screen went blank and 3 camera icons displayed. Pressing any of the camera buttons got me nowhere. Pressing and holding down the power button did nothing. I had 96%+ power remaining so I know it was not a low battery. After a minute even the camera buttons disappeared and the screen was completely blank, no status lights either. I plugged in the power cable, pressed the power button...still nothing. So I put the phone down and let sit there for 5 minutes. I eventually heard the T-Mobile jingle and the phone rebooted itself.
My phone is stock and I have not done anything exotic to it. Anyone come across this issue or know of a way to prevent/fix it?
That sounds very bizarre to me. Might want to check out any apps hogging resources.

I put a memory tool on the phone so I'll see what it shows if my phone locks up again. I do have SnoopWall and a call blocker installed so maybe I have an issue there.

Hi everyone,
I'm posting this thread because I'm heaving a problem with the On/Off switch of my phone... Since yesterday it doesn't work anymore, so when I push it down, nothing happens...
Yesterday, the power-controll menu (the one who appears when you push the swith down for a couple of seconds) appeared now and then, and my phone randomly switched on and off, so I'm thinking this may be a hardware issue...
My problem here is that I bought the phone in a store that's far away from where I live, so I can't just go and bring the phone for repair... But in the meantime I can't turn my phone on... The only way I can turn on the screen is when I connect it to a power source or when someone calls me.
I've searched the interwebs for software that may help me (something like a button remapper, so that I could use the central button for example as on and off switch) but that's only for rooted devices, and mine isn't...
Any propositions ?

I think his phone was on, so the problem was that he couldn't turn the screen on.

Well actually yes, the device was on but it turned off because of the battery... Luckily, I managed to restart the device by plugging it into the power source and remove/putting back the battery several times...
I noticed now that my battery is draining really fast, the phone can't hold a day of normal usage
I have recently encountered a problem with my hox, where, if I press the power button, the screen doesn't awake. It's a little weird, because the back home app switcher buttons do light up if it is dark enough around me and, after pushing them a few times, the volume buttons respond as well.
I haven't fully tested it, but it seems like when I wait like a minute or so, maybe more, the screen does finally wake up. I have also held the power button several times to restart it while it was like this and then the screen doesn't light up until the sim unlock screen pops up.
I have yet to factory reset the phone etc., but I was wondering if anyone else had run into this problem. I have looked around the internet, but was unsure what to search for.

Are u using sweep to wake?, that sometimes causes this problem
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Nope, I do not have sweep to wake.
Well, after a while of being okay, the issue is showing up again. If I press the power button it does wake the phone somehow (back, home, tasks lights light up, volume can be altered), but the screen wont come on. And when it's one of those rare moments that it does turn on the UI flies everywhere, making it literary uncontrolable, until at some point the screen just turns itself off.
I am not running any custom things, everything is stock. I tried a factory reset without erasing the SD storage. I also have just sent an email to HTC, but it being weekend and all I still have to wait a day or two.
Any other things I could try?
Never had this problem with the HOX.
Only with Xperia Arc and X10 when a heavy task ran in the background

Hi, I was wondering what did you do regarding the lockscreen problem. I'm having exactly the same problem here. I've already done a factory reset but it did not solve the issue. From time to time I'm not able to unlock the phone.
Please HELP!!!
It sometimes happens to me, recently after clearing the clock and weather apps and widgets. I don't know what it is.
My HTC One X dropped (from about 50cm) and landed on it's screen. The screen isn't broken, but it was frozen. So I switched the phone off, since it didn't respond.
Now my HOX won't turn on anymore! After pressing the power button it vibrates shortly (like when starting up). That's it.
Nothing on the screen, it stays blank. Nothing on the soft-touch buttons, the stay dark. When connected to the adapter the charging led doesn't turn on.
The only thing I seem able to do is hold the power button for about 10 seconds, to restart the phone, but then only a short vibration follows. Nothing else.
Anybody got any ideas what to do myself? Befor I can contact HTC on monday...
:crying:

I can't tell. My screen stays blank.
BTW: I am able to open my HOX. Perhaps somebody might know what to check if it's hardware related?
(A few weeks ago I've opened my HOX to fix the well known WiFi issue, but this is definitely not related to the blank screen issue.)
Trying to connect by USB to a PC also doesn't work.
Anybody any ideas?
Sounds like you knocked something when it fell. Id call HTC and say one day you couldnt see the screen and send it off to them. They should be able to replace the screen/motherboard.

+1 as long as there's no big scuffs and you just say you took it out of your pocket and it was black they'll fix it, even with unlocked bootloader you'll be ok. Phones theses days should be able to take 50cm drops

If Sunday doesn't bring a solution, that's what I'm going to do on Monday...
Today I received my HTC One X back from HTC repair No costs
I called HTC on Monday, they picked up my HTC One X on Tuesday and I got it back one week later (on Tuesday).
They've given it a boardswap and replaced the battery (don't know why) and put the latest software (rom) on it.
I did loose all my data, apps and settings, but fortunately I had a very recent back-up available, so I'm happy again!
My phone is totally non-responsive. Pressing the power button is non-responsive, plugging it in to charge does not seem to work; no red charging LED. Won't boot while plugged in.
Here's what happened:
I set two alarms for this morning. One to wake up for a skype call I was supposed to make, and a second to actually get up. I hit snooze when the first alarm went off. I had about 50% battery according to the battery icon in the top right. I decided to make the call anyway and launched skype and started a video call. During the call the alarm went off again and I dismissed it. The video was frozen on the frame when the alarm went off. I backed out of the video on the skype app, and went back to it. The video was now black, and the phone warned me the camera was off. The camera icon in skype showed it was on, but i pressed it anyway, at which point the icon changed to the no-video icon. I selected front camera, the icon remained showing a camera with a red line through it. I still did not have video, my calling partner could not see me anymore either. We finished the call with audio only, about 15 minute total phone time. I pressed the top hardware button to shut off the screen and I went back to sleep waiting for the next alarm. That never came. I woke up and tried to turn on the screen with the hardware button and nothing happened. I believe I saw it flash a green LED notification as I was doing this too, but it never flashed again. I thought maybe I left skype open and the battery died, so I plugged it in. The phone won't start charging, or at least the LED wont show. I tried booting it after it was plugged in five minutes (still no LED) and nothing happens.
I unplugged it and tried holding power and down volume for 30 seconds, then I tried power and up volume, then I tried power and both down and up volume all for more than 30 seconds. No response. (what is the proper hard reset for this phone anyway?) I have since left in unplugged hoping that the battery will completely drain and then I can start using it.
Any ideas in the meantime? this phone will last a week with 50% without using the screen or the processor.

No, nothing. I have a fully appreciation for the term "bricked" right now.
I think going back to the store is your best option in this case .... Unfortunately
yea, I think so too. I already emailed customer support.
If you plug the phone into a computer, go to device manager. Does it say QHSUSB_DLOAD anywhere?

So I went out all day and left my phone at home (the shop i bought the phone is on the ground floor of my office building an hour away, I was going to wait till monday to have it looked at there). Got back and plugged it in, was about to try usaff22's suggestion, but the LED started flashing red. after a bit it went solid and the phone turned right on. still no word from HTC, but it is the weekend and all. Maybe Jellybean will fix the root of the problem. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions everyone!
Hey guys... so I've noticed my phone acting a bit funky after the latest KitKat update. Just a bit of freezing and lagging, but my 32GB of space was also full. So I did a complete wipe and factory reset and started from scratch. At first everything was great (about a week or two). Then the past day or two I've noticed the below issues...
1. While at work, I keep the phone plugged into my computer via USB with Internet Pass-Through and WiFi turned on. I have it setup this way so I can use the computers internet and trickle charge the phone at the same time. But when I leave my desk I simply unplug my phone and it connects to my works WiFi while I'm walking around the office. I get back to my desk I plug it back in.
Problem: I've noticed lately that I'll pick up my phone and it's HOT to the touch. As well as the battery percentage is actually dropping even though it's plugged in.
2. At night when I go to sleep, using the HTC Charger and Cable that came with the phone I'll plug it in next to my bedside and let it charge.
Problem: I'll wake up in the morning, hit the power button to light up the screen and nothing happens. The Home Key and the Back Arrow (are these what everyone refers to as the "soft keys"?) are lit up but the screen will not turn on. To get the screen on, I have to HOLD the power button down, the screen then lights up with the Restart menu showing (and yes I've restarted it many times in hopes of fixing this issue) and I have to tap outside that box (on my wallpaper or wherever) and the menu will go away and my screen is back up like normal. However as soon as I tap the power button to turn off the screen (not the phone) and tap the power button again, nothing happens except the bottom keys being lit up. It's an ugly circle.
I have noticed a few times when holding the power button to bring up the screen/reset menu, sometimes the screen/reset menu will not turn on, but the home and back arrow keys on the bottom will flash a few times.
Any ideas guys? Loved this phone up until now
So after 200+ views and no comments I'd just like to add that I think I found the fix for this. I spoke with a few different HTC techs and tried multiple things before having to ship it out to them and right before doing so they had me reset what they termed the "Charging Logic"
To reset the Charging Logic
1. Power phone completely off
2. Once powered off, hold the Volume UP, Volume Down, and Power buttons for 2 minutes (my fingertips were sore afterwards LOL)
3. You should get a white background with the green HTC logo turn on/off multiple times. Almost as if it's trying to reboot...
4. After 2 minutes, let go of the buttons and let it reboot.
DONE!
Since I've done this, I've noticed my battery life extremely improved. My phone is no longer getting crazy hot, and the screen now turns on after an over-night charge!
Hope this helps others!
Does it matter what kind of charge you have on the battery when you do this? This is the first I've ever heard of resetting Charging Logic.

Does it matter what percentage your battery is at and does it work for rooted phones? Do I need to be on the stock Rom/recovery for it to work?

Sorry I'm not familiar enough with the developer side of things to tell you "it's ok" or "not".
What I can say is, the HTC tech never did ask me if my phone was fully charged or what percentage it was at. Which at the time was like 97% if I recall correctly. I am completely stock...
I would imagine this would work for rooted phones and it wouldn't matter what battery percentage but can't guarantee you...
I just wanted to come back in here and update this again. The above fix did not actually fix the phone as the problem came back again eventually. I am now on my third HTC ONE M7 and looks like I'll have to send this one back as well for the same issue.
I have a theory that it's either a problem with the OS or Light Sensor causing the screen not to turn on.
Can a mod take this thread off "fixed"
