Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference live right now! - Windows Phone 7 General

Guys, Many of us didn't noticed including me that Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference is going live!
So, why me telling all? Its coz Windows Phone 7 will be also discussed there!
If you are one of me who couldn't attent WPC 2010 can stream it live here.

I think the relevant keynote is at 2pm Eastern time by Brandon Watson.

Ballmer referred to "Windows 7 phones." Ugh. The CEO can't even get the name right.

Which brings the question I've been thinking about lately - what happened to the previous heroes, Joe Belfiore and Charlie Kindel? Don't see them around anymore.

Why so long for sales in the US? Why is the US three weeks behind the rest of the world in the WP7 release? Is it a network or service provider issue?

Honestly I think Microsoft is using the international launches as a sort of final beta test before the November launch in the US.
Critics here will be much more vocal about any issues than in other parts of the world, so it makes sense to iron them out before it hits US news channels.

Maybe. I just think that it is funny that MS's largest product in years is launched outside of the US first. MS is an American company. I have no issue with this, just curious as to why. I wonder if att is the cause of the delay?
When does the "rest of world" holiday shopping season start. US is considered Thanksgiving, so a November launch makes perfect sense. Get some buzz and word on the street by the time we are done eating turkey. Canada has their Thanksgiving a week before, so that makes sense as well.

In my opinion, there's no way they're going to pinpoint bugs and create patches in 3 weeks. Especially hard if these overseas users aren't as vocal, as you say. Then what, as soon as you buy your WP7 here in the US you'll be forced to update it right away? Not buying it and in fact I think this is ridiculous that a company would even think about doing that.
I'm betting it's a US carrier delay.
i went to see it before it was on sales cuz my friend works in vodafone. don't really like the feel of the HTC.. i'll be holding it off till i get other choices in brand, i don't like HTC LG and Samsung in the design of these phones.. i need a keyboard and good camera.. does anyone know if SE going to make a wp7 phone.. i'm using the x2 now and i have to say it as given me a run for my money...
In Austria A1 (network operator) sell all three windows 7 phones + a free Xbox 360 today (21.10)
It's a nice sale but I'm very happy with my HD2 with Android on it

And O2 Germany , but it isn't online yet .
Hong Kong is in the 21st launch list too, but I asked around, nobody knows anything about Windows Phone 7. I was thinking to get either the Omnia 7 or HD7.
Not a good start for WM7, All the places that are supposed to have stock do not.
And other stores are not sure when it is coming in, or have no idea about it at all.
Microsoft should be pleased with this great start.

Just out of interest are there any WM7 phones for sale in Malaysia.
after reading the news on front page, it seems that time zones start in US
too bad that small countries exist in a different dimension, because there are no services such as zune pass nor bing available
even the phones aren't available at launch time - seems like winning the market isn't really an excuse here

Probably like others said - they're testing out the infrastructure and whatnot before the big launch in NA.
Also, as a Canuck, I'd love to correct you: Our Thanksgiving is the first Monday of October.
It's payback time...
My guess is that it has to do with the supply of phones. With people saying stores not receiving stock yet would tell me there is short supply. So delaying 2 1/2 weeks gets more units in stock. Or maybe I just have hopeful thinking.

ROADMAP windows phone

we have more information now to the roadmap of many features will come on the windows phone device during this year & 2012,so Microsoft will break his silence & reveal everything in Developers Day in London on May 25th

http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/24/windows-phone-7-more-technical-tidbits-exposed/
especially with exposure of technology and what is to come for the mobile world...
I won't take it with a grain of salt and furthermore I don't think any wp7 user should either...regardless
Great find!
More like the roadmap to the roadmap, and its in May! Nothing to see here, because we all know MS will stick rigidly to whatever roadmap is announced.

All the good stuff will be at MIX11 in Vegas. It's been said before by the WP team that is where most of the new info will be revealed as they want to excite developers.
My bet is that the London event will be a recap of what is said at MIX11 with possibly a few new things, but nothing major.
What will be and won't be in 'Mango' seems up in the air. My bet is they hit their target date (give or take a few weeks) but not all features may make it, which is why they purposefully didn't mention them at MWC.

nokia, wp7, sales and delays

I like to watch how things trend. nokia posted a loss, now christmas release is going to slip by ?
Elop confirmed that the orphan N9 Linux phone will be "regional" only, and that volume shipments of Windows-based devices won't materialise until next year. ®
source: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/07/21/nokia_q2_2011_massive_loss/
Long before Xmas for Mango: http://wmpoweruser.com/windows-phone-7-mango-released-to-manufacturers-in-carrier-testing/. And Elop/Nokia have always said volume shipments in 2012, but they WILL have device(s) out this year.

i'm not certain that 'some limited devices' is a good sign for nokia before christmas. mange can come out any time- it won't really matter for nokia if they miss another christmas season. those sales = iphone/android

Audible app "slightly delayed"

I am not sure if anyone is interested but I got a response from Audible about their WP7 app. I dipped my toe into the WP7 waters (I have been an Android fanboy for a while) and I love it but I use Audible a lot. It is the only app that I used regularly on Android that has not been released.
For now, I stripped the drm off the files (shhhh) and used the ingenious "create a podcast" solution in the forum.
Hello Rich,
Thank you for contacting Audible.
I understand that you are inquiring about the release date of the Windows Phone App. I will be more than glad to answer your questions regarding this app.
At this moment, we don't have the release date available since it was slightly delayed due to a technical problem we had on the testing phase of this App. Our App is almost ready to be released; however, we are currently working on the final details to ensure you that we will provide you with a high quality product. When the application is complete, we will be announcing it on our website, newsletter, and social media channels.
Thanks for your interest in using Audible with Windows Phone. If you need any further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Have a wonderful day.
Sincerely,
David A.

"slightly delayed" is an Understatement
Thanks so much for posting this. I love my HTC HD7, except for lacking the audible app. I feel like I have been waiting forever. I got my phone on the day it was released in November 2010. I usually listen to my audible books on my Xoom Android tablet.

So what happened? I still don't have it in the marketplace even though I have read at least two blogs that say it is now available. The blogs also mention that Draw Something should be available but it is not. It also is not mentioned on the Audible webiste.
I have been wondering if there is some sort of misunderstanding. The guy that presented it was also talking about the ability to control the app with the voice interface. I have been wondering if he meant that the tool will be available in the sdk later in the day. I did not hear the entire presentation.
I have to admit as an Android user, I keep thinking that maybe there is a cache somewhere that needs to be cleared or some sort restriction in the market.
Audible app is not in Indian marketplace yet. Dunno about other marketplaces.

But...but...their lack of releasing this when they said they were going to is totally f**king me! I can't believe they would do this!
The fact that I have a device that is about the size of a pack of smokes and connects me with the sum total of human knowledge and communicate with anybody in the world from virtually anywhere is not enough! If they don't release this soon, my life is totally screwed!!!
Oh...sorry...I have been reading too many of the other threads in this forum.

Here it is in the marketplace:

It is odd because it doesn't show up in search. I found a direct link on a blog.
Hmmm,
Your right, it doesn't show up with search, so I followed the link, and it tells me it's not available in my (UK) marketplace

Though it still doesn't come up in search, the link works here in Indian market. Can be installed too. Installed too and it works. Didn't test any audio-book because none was free.

Should be coming soon to the UK
From the Windows Phone blog comments (by MS employee):
This is not a US-only app. There was a bug that happened only in the UK and 4 other countries (I don't have the list handy at the moment but wanted to respond to this without waiting), it was resubmitted last night with a fix for it, so it should show up soon.
June 22, 2012
