I've been a member of this site for several years and love it! I've recently been tempted to buy an LG Expo from AT&T. It has great features and specs. Would this site consider supporting such a device? I'd obviously rather have an HTC HD2, but AT&T doesn't offer it. The Touch Pro 2 is just like my Touch Pro with a larger screen, so I can't justify spending extra cash on it.
So anyway - Device support other than HTC?
Sorry
As stated many time before only HTC devices on XDA
This is the owners and admin position
That's fine! I like the Expo for it's specs, but I'm attached enough to this site to buy an inferior (by specs only) HTC phone. I've had HTC phones since the Wizard and always loved them. If anyone has an inside scoop that AT&T might carry the HD2 then I might hold out for it instead of getting the Touch Pro 2.
I don´t know if Leo will be for your carrier, but deciding Leo or Rhodium will reduce to:
What I prefer: More processor and bigger screen? or a hardware keyboard and a smaller screen?
On my case I prefer Rhodium
And I really have enough power to handle all the apps I use
I'm a big fan of a large screen & Snapdragon cpu power, so the HD2 is the coolest
So is a Palm htc made?

Yes some models, have a look on the Wiki and you´ll find out the models made by HTC

That is funny, you took the words right out of my mouth. My contract is up with AT$T, but they have no decent new phones to move to. You are right, my " customized " Tilt runs just as good as any Tilt 2, so can't justify the expense and the new contract . There was a rumor that AT$T 's new Android offering would be the HTC Lancaster, it's unofficial appearance was unofficially canceled in Aug. The rumored carrier for the Leo is T-mobile. Like you however, I am still holding out hope that AT$T gets it's head enough out of Apples ass to offer us a decent phone sometime in the near future.

I currently own the ATT Tilt but its time to get a new phone. I am debating on if I should wait and get the Touch Pro2 or just get the Touch Pro.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for your time
i'd just get a touch pro and use the manila from the TP2
i don't see anythiong hardware wise, apart from the screen, that would compel me to upgrade.
But which OS
What I'm interested to know is which Microsnot OS will they have on them. I have seen some articles where there is mention they may run 6.5.
It will be extemely interesting to see what the XDA chefs do with them once they get their cooky little hands on them
Personally I would be waiting.
I would say wait as i'm kind of in the same boat as you are in (however i solidified my decision when the Fuze came out and wanted to save my contract for the "next big thing"). I'll more than likely get this and hope to be the first person in line for it

Both the Rhodium and Topaz will ship with 6.1, and (the HTC branded ones at least) will get a free upgrade to 6.5 when its released.

If you have the money, feel free to buy one
i recently got me an Epix to hold me over till this badboy comes out.
Hey looks like the perfect kiaser/tilt replacement had the money for the touch pro but i guess im going to wait now think you should 2
I too am waiting on this bad boy to drop. Thought about the exeda but am going for this one first
The only real reason I think to get a Touch Pro / Fuze right now is because you simply like it looks more. The Touch Pro 2 will be a bit bigger and clearly look different.
But the Touch Pro 2 is the superior phone, so if you could pick a Touch Pro / Fuze now on contract, or wait a few months till you get it's follow up on contract... I will always choose for the Touch Pro 2 .
Yes yes, all the efforts being made in the ROM development will make A LOT of the new cool stuff in the Touch Pro 2 available to the Touch Pro 1... but still, I like the device more. More resolution, tad bigger screen (which makes entering text without having to flip open the keyboard easier), The slide-out qwerty can tilt like in your Kaiser / Tilt now, it has better speakers for speaker-phone mode.
I'm a Diamond user, so clearly not into the enterprise / corporate thing for my phone, but I always thought the Touch Pro was just a Diamond with QWERTY thrown in, while the Touch Pro2 clearly has a bit more to make it a business phone over the Diamond2.

They sell it in Taiwan already? How much approx?
I will definately wait for the TP2 as an upgrade from my TyTN.
The wait for T-Mobile NL to get it is quite long tho (approx. June)
thats not that bad might come to the us in sep hoping it gets here faster a looooooot faster
This is definitely one of the best designed of the recent HTC devices.
Odd that it didn't get the Touch HD's 5MP camera unit?
I got my Tilt (I think) about a month after it came out on AT&T. According to myATT I can upgrade at the beginning of September. Since there is no way that I can afford one of those mobiles without subsidized pricing I will be forced to wait until then. The rumours that I've heard indicate that the TP2 will be out then. So for me there's really no question of which mobile to get. The reasons that I prefer the TP2 over the TP: The screen. I have gotten so used to the tilting screen that I really don't want a phone without one. The 3.6" WVGA screen should make web browsing that much better also. Since software doesn't matter that much (thanks to the dedicated hackers of xda devs ), I would just like at the hardware.
Wait
I'd would wait.... the bigger screen, battery, and higher resolution is enough to wait for and hopefully HTC's proposal of a "Global" release means that every carrier gets TP2 at the same time.. check out the link to Sprint's 2009 line up ..... Hi,
I live in Sydney, Australia.
I've owned a HTC Topaz until i sold it to my dad to upgrade to a better HTC phone.
I'm tossing up between waiting until the 11th of November and ordering the HTC HD2 from www.clove.co.uk or to purchase a Touch Pro 2 from ebay.
I just require general advice on which would be a better investment.
Background:
Engineering Student, requiring a smartphone that can organise a busy lifestyle and last a few years without hassles.
Thanks,
Harry.
HD2 without a doubt. plus the specs garantee that it wont be outdated in a while... unlike the TP2 since a 528 CPU will only take you so far
depends if you need a Keyboard mostly
Thanks Mike, that was one hell of a quick response.
After the Topaz I was itching for a keyboard, but i think you're right.
The snapdragon processor will last quite some time and it outweighs my need for a keyboard.
I'm sure HTC can fit a decent touch keyboard on a 4.3 inch screen.
Plus if you're ever doing major work on it, you can just buy a bluetooth keyboard for it.
Still don't know about the capacitive touch screen. Most devices I've played with that have them seem to be too sensitive and at the same time less accurate.
I wish they were releasing the HD2 in the US.
Could i get one more piece of advise please - which site would be the best to buy the HD2?
Reasonable postage + pricing would be great.

the keyboard on the TP2 is great...have used onscreen keyboards for the last 5 years and now would not go back ...if you do a lot of text input (emails etc) then go a TP2 plus the business slant is great for organising work and play... the real question should be, want a real keyboard or not... the speed of text input will out play any gain by the faster processor of the HD2... now a HD2 with a TP2 type keyboard & under 170 gms... that would be a killer device
No hardware kwyboard
Not an option for me
TP2 is the best hardware keyboard device to this date
I have the TP2 from Telstra and really like the phone. It has the keyboard which is the main reason for me choosing it. Apart from this, the phone's screen is big and bright. And the performance is snappy. What I don't like is the Telstra theme. But I have changed to a Hero theme which I am very pleased with. So all in all, I am happy with my choice.
HD2 is just a TP2 with out a keyboard (as bloggers who have it are saying)
Ok you get a more ram with the HD2 and a thin device (kinda)
But you pretty much just between Keyboard + touchscreen or no keyboard and full touchscreen
at the end of the day its up to you. pick what you want.. remember your on a forum with users who have both devices and going to stand behind they phone and defend it so all you going to hear is users with HD2 saying "GET THE HD2" and users with TP saying the same thing
actually , i use the hardware kwyboard rarely...
but it looks cool , so i choose TP2
HD2 its in a league of its own. Its super fast and responsive. If you want to have great performance and impress your friends go for the HD2. I want the TP2 for the keyboard.
PS: The HD1 has the requirements for an upgrade to Windows Mobile 7, so that might be a plus too.
My history is XV6600 --> XV6700 --> XV6800 --> Touch Pro2. What's next from HTC? Obviously this is usually the time when the HTC rumor mill starts churning out some interesting stuff about what's to come in the fall from HTC in terms of QWERTY handsets. But with a WM6.5 handset (obviously) highly unlikely, what are they bringing to the table this fall?
Has Moto temporarily knocked HTC out of the QWERTY market with Verizon?
Is HTC really going to lack a QWERTY in Verizon's inventory, since the Touch Pro2 is fading in and out of stock on vzw.com? It's currently out of stock in my zip, which is usually when the rumors of an upcoming replacement start flying.
Just curious, since I'm in the market, and I'm not really hearing the normal chatter. All the early adopters of the Verizon Touch Pro2 will qualify for the "Annual Upgrade" policy starting a month from today basically, and I can't be the only one having dreams about Android! I'm not really dreaming about it, but it's on my mind.
I just refuse to believe that HTC's Verizon lineup is going to consist of the backordered Incredible, Imagio, and Ozone!
(I really didn't know where else to post this, but I figured I wasn't the only one with a Touch Pro2, who was thinking about upgrading right now.)
HD2 + keyboard
I think most of us are hoping for something very like the TP2 (which, aesthetically and functionally is nearly spot on), maybe a bit thinner, but with at least the processing power of the HD2.
I personally can't see that happening though - HTC are just too busy with android handsets at the moment, and the WinMob/hardware keyboard sector just isn't mainstream enough.
I guess partially, that's what I can't figure out. Why wouldn't HTC just take the Touch Pro2 (which they know was a hit among most users), throw in Android, a capacitive screen, bump up the RAM, and Snapdragon? Done!
Verizon's Droid branding campaign could handle the rest.
Right now, they're riding the EVO wave, but it's a non-QWERTY device on the US' third ranked carrier in terms of subscribers.
I would love to see HTC pull out the big guns this fall, but if the leaks don't start flying soon, they're going to lose a ton of US marketshare to Motorola and Samsung.

No, Windows 7 phones are next. I don't see anyone making any new WM 6.5.x phones. People have stopped developing applications for this platform. And WM 7 will not run WM 6.x programs...

No, see, that's the problem. The TP2 was aimed squarely at the "business" market. Therefore, it MUST have Windows Mobile, because it MUST run Office Mobile.
What you want is probably a Nexus One.

Maybe I need to clarify, of course I know they're not coming out with anything WinMo. Honestly though, the fact that it looks like they'll have no QWERTY on the market this fall is the first time in a LONG time. I just can't believe that HTC doesn't have any Android QWERTY devices in the pipeline for Verizon, or any other carrier for that matter.

Well, I don't think you can compare AT&T to any other carrier, since AT&T puts absolutely no marketing dollars behind anything but the iPhone. Honestly, they don't even try to sell other devices. The Tilt2 is still available on AT&T's website, $199, for a device that's already been out for a year. Not to mention the fact that they tried to sell it for $349 when it first came out. Meanwhile, Verizon had it for $199 from the start, and it's been less than $100 for the past 6 months. Seriously, AT&T didn't even put forth an effort.
Also, I don't believe that most business users use their mobile devices to access documents. 90% probably use it solely for the ability to sync corporate e-mail, calendar, etc. I know I do, and I am the epitome of a business user. Regardless, you can view and edit Office files with Documents To Go on Android.
As for the Nexus One, it's nowhere near comparable to the Touch Pro2 in terms of form factor. The only option HTC is giving people (in the US) right now would be to wait a month for the Incredible to come off backorder, wait for the EVO to come off backorder, buy the Aria, or go with a Motorola Droid device.
Just odd that they don't have any options, when typically this is the time of year they are getting ready to drop their next QWERTY device.

It's not the same. Businesses want devices that integrate tightly with their infrastructure. They want to be able to provision mobile devices and configure them from their Exchange server. They want SharePoint integration. They want Outlook integration. They want OneNote integration. Nothing like that is available (possibly outside Blackberry, which is a whole other can of worms).
I presume that the delay in winmo7 has begotten a delay in htc keyboard winmo phones.
Regardless of OS, HTC is giving Verizon customers no viable options right now.
I think that you can see by the HTC AT&T branded Aria that HTC is in fact aware that HW keyboards are needed. They will sway some consumers towards their phones over the iphone, and will compete with the Droid series.
I expect as someone mentioned a two to three phone lineup for AT&T when Windows 7 rolls out. Large HD2 style, HW Keyboard (crosses fingers) and a mini phone.

I don't know, most of the phones these days don't have slider keyboards, they tend towards blackberry style keys, or soft keyboards. I think most people are considering that the iphone is the one to mimic, and it has no HW keyboard.

I hope HTC does NOT use a capacitive screen. The TP2 is a business phone and I do not see anyone editing excel tables with a finger. For some applications and tasks it's just way more comfortable and precise to use the Stylus and as fas as I know the special styluses for capacitive TouchScreens are way to big to fit into a phone.
Therefore I strongly hope that they wont use a capacitive Touchscreen on this one.
Lets not turn business phones into Iphones.

im glad im not the only one who feels this way, i just had a conversation with a friend of mine (iphone user) as to why i liked my stylus
among other things, she was under the impression that taking out the stylus was required to do anything on the phone, i wonder if this misinformation is typical among consumers
well there is rumors about a hd2 pro... hope it happens.. but doesnt look like it.. its the tmobile hd2 with a keyboard. maybe it would land on att
hi with all the leaks of the new mobiles that are to be released which one is going to be the best 1 to get thats gonna keeps me going for at least 2 years.
With WP7, the specs are all standardized. The options are pretty much personal decisions..
How much storage do you want?
Do you value a physical keyboard?
Which do you think looks the best?
How big of a screen do you want?
What models will work on your carrier (this will probably limit you the most)?
Noone can answer those questions for you. The things that would affect longevity (CPU, RAM) are all standard on WP7 so really won't differ much if at all.

go with hTC Hd3~ haha
question is when is the hd3 gonna be released? One things for sure i dont want a small screen nothing less than 3.8 but would prefer 4 and above
I looking for more of a Touch Pro3 type device. Although I would love to see a 4"+ screen with a slide out keyboard.
I'll probably end up with a Samsung whenever I decide to switch. I don't know what it is, but I always ended up with a Samsung in my pocket for the last 4-5 years now.
I went from the Samsung i630 -> i760 -> Omnia II (i920)
Probably has to do more with Verizon being my provider than any affinity I have for Samsung.
what I'm wondering, .I'm from the netherlands, and also wantto buy it in october, but the dutch version won't be there then yet. So, can I also buy the english version here, or do I need to export it?

According to pdadb.net the HTC Mondrian/Schubert /Mozart's predecessor model is the HD2, so basically, this will be the HD3.

But to answer your question, RustyGrom couldn't have said it any better, but the best thing to do right now is not to get into any contracts until at least November, I just canceled Sprint and now have and HD2 with T-Mob, contract less...

Well, as always Sprint is last to get a phone. The only positive is lately Sprint has the best looking and performing phones out (Evo and Epic). I hope this trend continues and Sprint drops a real monster this winter.
There is a decent round up here...

I'm partial to the Samsungs with the S-AMOLED screens. WP7, even more than other OSes, looks great on a AMOLED screen.

ditto - plus SD card support as well if that pans out.
From people who have had hands-on sessions and the lucky few who have received their review units already, I've been hearing Mozart and Omnia are the nicest. The general consensus seems to be that the HD7 doesn't feel quite right, too big, too shiny and WP7 somehow feels better on the smaller screens.
The Trophy seems to be winning a lot of praise too, though I think that's on the presumption that it will be quite a bit cheaper than the Mozart.
Yeah the Mozart is a very nice looking device. My only concern is no SAMOLED. I agree with the above post about WP7 looking best with an AMOLED screen. However, I'm not too sure I want a phone with Samsung's build quality. Decisions.. decisions..
The LG phones actually look good in the reviews Ive seen which is a bit of a shocker as Ive never like LG for phones that much in the past...
Well... I prefer the HD7... it just looks like THE WP7 device... it just stands out, that gorgeous 4.3 inch screen? that beautiful camera(2 LED!), the stand! the other devices are small and weak... the Dell one just looks ugly(I thought it looked like the BlackBerry Style)
Still, speed is no issue with any of them...
I had to go to the mall the other day to pick up some another pair of shorts. Naturally, I stopped by the T-Mobile store. And Naturally the guy working there saw I had the TP2 and tried to sell me the G2. Naturally I asked about the TP3
His response for my question "Yes, T-mobile has the 'touch pro3' ready to be released. However, They are abandoning the name 'Touch Pro3' because it is being shipped with WP7."
I was kind of disappointed because this made it sound like the new phone would not have a keyboard (which is a big reason why a lot of you guys still have this phone, from what I've seen and threads I have read). But that was all the information he had for me. Also, he said, It will probably be released before Christmas. He said, he had heard people say around Thanksgiving time..
Sorry if this is a repost. Just wanted to share some news I found out. Also here is a picture from T-Mobile.com revealing a WP7. However, this looks more like the HD2, maybe the 'HD7' is what they are calling the TP2? Either way, WP7 has a better marketplace, and there phones better be slim and have a keyboard! Cheers

Yes, the HD7 is almost certainly the new version of the HD2.
The successor to the Touch Pro line appears to be the 7 Pro, only announced so far for Sprint.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=805821
Hopefully versions will be coming to other carriers, as well. But the G2 is pretty sweet also.
Woopsies, sorry about that. I was browsing the forums earlier and noticed that all the stuff that I mentioned has already been posted about... I'm always late to the game.. haha. Thanks though
Up until this past week I had understood the "Touch Pro 3" was to be the HTC Hera which is the same form factor as the Touch Pro 2 but smaller and with a slight up tick to 600 MHz for the CPU. I was over at PDADB.net and ran into a whole host of HTC phones that will have Windows Phone 7. What appears to be the latest reincarnation of the Touch Pro 2 form factor is the HTC 7 Pro currently slated for Sprint. I saw another device...the HTC 8788 which also is a slider but I read conflicting info as to the slider...one said it's a keyboard and the other said it was a speaker. I'm not aware T-Mobile is releasing anything else from HTC other than the HD3 aka HD7. There are some questions in regards to whether it will have an external SD capacity or strictly internal only.
