The official HTC forum in Norway has confirmed that HTC will release an WM6 update for TyTn.
http://smartmobil.no/Article639.phtml
Sorry if this information is outdated
Its also on Qtek's swedish site that theres 5 HTC phones definitly getitng the official upgrade.. http://www.qtek.se/sweden/nyheter/senaste_nytt.aspx
I'm sure it has already been covered someplace else on the forums already mind.
Yea, i think it have been posted earlier today/this week. Says late summer, so im thinking july, august
well, this is great news.
let's hope the official update will have all problems fixed etc.
Cingular announced this a few weeks ago. Actually they confirmed WM6 for the 8525, blackjack AND treo 750. No release dates though, but engadget reported that the Blackjack update is probably going to be released the earliest.
official WM6
Hi
Its true that TyTn gone have an official WM6. But I’m not sure that they can delivery it in June or July because TyTn Europe couldn’t jet delivery a new Swedish MW5 Rom witch been known since months on xda-developers forum it was suppose to delivery in January 07. so I satisfying so long with current WM6 such as Black, LVSW etc.
regards
Yes, and the question is: witch one will be better? Or better suiteable...
I believe that the heroes here (we all are) investigated so much in this stuff that I will make this statement: HTC learn from XDA or you lose!!! Probably they've read all our treads and learnd from it.
Question: What do you think concerning this matter?
I think Cingular/HTC waits for the developers here to solve all the problems then they just copy and release what was done here Saves them time and money developing their own stuff. lol

hahaha, lol, man, its cool.
They will read your post and theirs faces will be red.
Its true though... even if an offical release becomes available for my Vario II, I'm not totally sure that I would upgrade giving tha I'm so happy with my LVSW WM6 install
i have the same sentiments... the roms here are almost "made to order" with features that majority of us agree on. I really can't imagine upgrading to an official "operator" or "manufacturer" rom unless there's a big boo boo in the one's i've installed from here (which there have been none I might add).

For sure, this is the development field of WM6.
Where are the going to find such gurus as here?
And for free....

I presonally prefer official ROMs over these user-made. WM6 roms I've tried do have more or less annoying bugs and unusefull software (xcept maybe for vanillas).
Original roms are (or at least should be) guaranteed to work on phones they have been made for.

Yes, advanced users here provide very much, but not that many actually developes the OS itself. They just add tweaks
and some freeware programs in it.
Oh and believe me, there are more gurus out there as well. This is just a forum with few experts and I doubt they
do this for a living, more like a hobby.
For free? How many times you have paid for a rom that operator releases?
And WM6 for free? I'd say that's piracy. You do pay for at least to upgrade from Windows XP to Vista?
When you buy a new computer that comes with an OS, you can't assume that you are entitled for a free upgrade
to OS when ever one is released.
I find the best thing this forum has to offer is free problem solving when it comes to bricking your device when
you either don't have a clue what you are doing or then something goes wrong while flashing your phone.
Hats off for the expert for that.

I found this comment interesting - and technically, it sounds true , so as not to diverse from the original post, I've started a new thread incase anyone else wonders what the legalities are... I don't know, I'm just wondering myself!

Great news...
I wonder if this is the reason the upgrade that was announced for Q1 still hasn't been released?

It is quite different thing for several reasons:
1. You can't go and buy an OS for a PocketPC or smartphone. Moreover, there is no and can't be a market for OSes for such devices: any build is device dependent. Show me that shop, and I'll buy Symbian or Linux for my TyTN!
2. When you buy a motherboard, you expect free BIOS update, especially if the original is buggy. For embedded devices (STB, modem, router, MP3 player etc) you do expect free firmware update, especially if the original one is buggy. No matter that the firmware is based on a Linux or even no OS. Windows Mobile is just a part of the firmware for our devices.
And, because Windows Mobile is always buggy, we do expect free updates!
Yes, you get free updates for BIOS as you do get for your phone. They are called ROM updates, which include fixes for radio, bootloader, OS fixes and stuff, but NOT a new OS.
As I see it, when a new OS has been released, it will be sold as a part of a new phone (OEM). As you can't purchase OEM versions you are stuck with the one you currently own, but you still do get free updates.
I would find it quite strange if you would be supported with brand new OS for no additional cost, since I believe the operators/manufacturers sure has to pay license fees for
new OS's.

Don't be so restricted, look wider!
Manufacturers get money from selling their devices. If they won't update the OS on just released models (and TyTN is far from EOL), they loose sales. Then they can give the same ROM to us, old owners, for no cost for them.
Then, they just announced new models on almost the same hardware. They have to use the new OS on them, so they have to make the new ROM for them. But if they won't update our ROMs with the new OS, they'd have to continue supporting two different lines of ROMs, instead of one with small very specific changes. It's additional cost. Or, drop support for recent devices, means loose their face and then sales of new devices.
Believe me, it's not free, and not for no cost from us. We paid enough to let them support us until EOL, and they earn enough from such upgrades.
Just like owners of other devices paid for all the firmware updates, we paid for our updates. The early we purchased the more we paid, BTW. An update with the new OS for recent devices for HTC is cheaper than no updates or updates with old OS. Even if the update would be less stable/useful than WM5 AKU3.5!

If Microsoft provides the upgrade to the OEM for free (which it looks like they are doing for WM6) and the OEM provides the upgrade to current owners for free (which it looks like they will do when they eventually do it), then it is not piracy.
Keep in mind that Microsoft really makes its money on its core products (currently Vista, Office 2007 and Exchange 2007). They REALLY want users (especially enterprise users) to upgrade to those new products. If you have a Windows Mobile device, you need WM6 on those devices to take full advantage of the new features in the core products, so why wouldn't they give it away? It will pay for itself twice or three times over. Besides, as other users have pointed out, WM6 is really just a bug fix maintenance release for WM5.0!

TFLo3d
It's not as responsive as I see it in the youtube vids.
Seems to run flawlessly.
I notice a real slow down when I import contacts. I have quite a few.
and what is with the new versions of WM?
To the question : "WM6.5 or WM7 on diamond ?", the answer is "YEEES ! you will have WM6.1++ !!!"
I think it means we won't have them from HTC, as they probably reserve it for a brand new phone they'll try to sell us...
But XDA developpers are the bests, so i'm sure we can expect them to cook a nice WM7 Rom as soon as it will be available...
Let's hope WM7 will be able to run on our Diamonds. Can't wait till the release!
Not too sound too negative, but I mean WM6 kills the diamond - it makes it choke (cooked ROM's or not).
Hopefully that won't be the case for WM7. Because up to this point, I'm rooting Android all the way
This is pure speculation from all of us, since we're talking about an unreleased product. That said, Windows 7 beta seems a lot snappier than Vista (I know - doesn't say much) and slightly faster than XP. So, maybe WM7 will run faster than 6.1?
Some people have mentioned WM7, I highly doubt HTC will release 6.5 for the Diam/Raph/BlackS, never mind 7.
Good thing we have xda-devs, though I suspect that 7 will require new and diff. hardware in phones, such as multitouch.
how reliable is the news?
yea wm really sucks.. ms is really poor at innovation..
diamond doesnt have multi touch?
anyway been waiting for a new official rom for a damn long time.. was tempted to flash to a cooked rom.. so i guess can wait till jan for now to see what they offer..
Hopefully they resolve issues like memory leak.. and learn from the forums what the users really expect of the diamond and tf3d..
LOL when it be wm7 upgrade you ll have another **** phone from htc so what are you solving here i consider that due to ms is poor bastard* wm7 will be at 2010...just look to articles and news...

The guy interviewed is:
"Selskapets produktsjef for de nordiske og baltiske markedene, Christer Högström" ==> "HTC's Chief of Products for the nordic and baltic markets, Christer Högström"
So probably as reliable as it gets before the actual download is available.
Edit:
HTC actually got a bunch of questions regarding WM6.5 on current models, to sum up they're answers:
HTC will have to pay an upgrade license per device for 6.1 to 6.5, the details regarding this is not all worked out yet, so he couldn't answer if there would be released official 6.5 updates and if it would be free or a upgrade fee involved.
I suppose most/many of the hardcore users would be interested in upgrading if the fee vs gains is the right...
Don't hold your breath!
If HTC release an official 6.5 ROM upgrade for the Diamond, I will video myself eating my device and post it on YouTube for all to see! New OS means sales of NEW devices.... this makes good sense for businesses. Why offer an upgrade for a device someone has already bought when they can sell you a nice new device with the latest OS installed?
Thank goodness for XDA Developers, that's what I say! We will have our upgrade one way or another!

Making an upgrade available for some small fee wouldn't be that bad. Bussinesswise I understand your viewpoints but on the other hand, I buy my phone for 500EUR ($800 or something) I think for that price I can get some service. If I get bad service I wouldn't stay with HTC, but frequent updates will make me buy another one (or your operator will buy another one for you with ur contract), if that's 500EUR every 2 years I think they can be really happy.
Hello to everyone you know if HTC roadmap has a new version of ROM for the Diamond. I have installed the latest available, but I saw that for the new PDA HTC has released new features. You believe that will be available in a new official ROM? Thanks Tony
I got a feeling that HTC gave up on Diamond cause they have Diamond 2 which replace Diamond.
Hopefully not...
HTC will probably never release any official updates of Manila for the Diamond (or any other existing phones). Cause if they do, people won't by their new phones
I don't want to be a nitpicker but could you add a question mark to the thread title?
You shouldn't fire up hope when you just have a question and not an announcement.
On topic: Compared to other HTC devices and other manufacturers in general our dear Diamond received quit a lot of updates. 1.37,1.93,1.97,2.00,2.03,2.07,2.09 and now 2.10. Now think about your average SonyEricsson, Samsung,<place your manufacturer here> mobile phone.
This answare sended to me when asking for WM 6.5 to my Diamond:
Dear valued HTC customer,
Thank you for contacting our Customer Support Center. We are dedicated to providing you with the best quality service and answering all of your questions and concerns.
You recently wrote us about enquiry.
Windows Mobile 6.5 will be available for the Touch Diamond 2 and Touch Pro2 as a free update. It will become available to download from our website under www.htc.com under “support”. This update may also become available for the Touch HD but this has not yet been confirmed. So far no other device models are scheduled to be given this update.
There is currently no official release date but we would recommend that you keep yourself updated regularly on our website in case of any further developments.

Hi,
I thought I read somewhere HTC would release this upgrade for the tp2 today? Does anyone know if this is the case, and where to get it? I could not find anything on HTC's site re WM6.5.
Thanks.
Noone knows a thing. Everyone expects the release to be tomorrow. But since some providers are already releasing it today, who knows?
There isn't any hard evidence to say when it's going to come out.

They've advised they are currently dealing with the license packges from microsoft (whatever that means), but no release date was mentioned. Doesn't sound far away though.
Hi,
I have downloaded on HTC Support site an update for my TP2 from Orange.
The file is named RUU_Rhodium_Orange_FR-B2B_1.19.73.5_Radio_Rhodium_3.45.25.14_Signed_Ship.exe dating October 1st 2009....
Can anyone tell me if it's WM 6.5 ? Or just an update of my 1.19.73.3 (51489) WM6.1 ?
Thanks
EDIT : Stupid question after reading at Microsoft that the WM 6.5 availability date is not yet known....

Not possible. I know the Sales Representative for WM Norway. He told me. I have known the release dates for a quite long time now.
This is a message on HTC's website:
If you have a phone from Orange or another provider though HTC won't be providing the update (not too sure I have much faith in Orange to provide an update).

Availability
The HTC Touch2, Touch Diamond2 and Touch Pro2 with Windows Mobile 6.5 are available through selected operators across Europe now and will be rolling out to other regions in the coming months. The new HTC HD2 will be available soon with selected operators across Europe, before rolling out to other regions.
Notes to Editors
Customers with an original HTC Touch Diamond2 or Touch Pro2 will be able to update their phone via a new ROM which will be available from HTC’s website in the coming weeks at www.htc.com.

I just received it via email.
/\oops the person above me got it too. /\
Did anyone else wake up this morning to a 6.5 update?
No really, I woke this morning and slapped my TP2 to shut off my alarm to be alarmed myself, I had a Windows Update telling me to upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5. I pretty much crapped myself at that point, it started off and gave my the orange installation screen, than after a minute or two it gave me an installation failed message.
After that I frantically tried running Windows Update but the connection timed out continuously. Just wondering if I am the only to receive this?
If this happens tomorrow I promise pictures, but was this an isolated incident? Or did everyone else get this via Microsoft?
As much as I want 6.5, I'm in no rush, the internet is on fire with "6.5 sucks" stories. I personally just want TouchFlo3D 2.5, that twitter integration is calling my name.
/firstpost
HTC sure plays spoil sport - with expectations.
(i know they never told they will release the update on 6th, but when a date was announced by microsoft the two companies should have worked together to release the updates for every phone in their list. This is so not good for their PR).
I really dont see how microsoft expects to win the mobile phone war. By the time they come out with WinMO 7, they will again be miles behind, if all they could manage was a shoddy job at winmo 6.5 which apparently has nothing great to talk about - except IE - and who uses it anyway!)
I stuck to winmo all these years, as 5 years ago it was a good business phone and it also supported bberry.
This year i finally split and bought a bberry as there was no update for TP2 coming for months. - again, its a function of marketing - keep customers happy. I know there has never been a promise by htc on integrating bberry software on winmo, yet, after a point, people start expecting.
Somehow these giants just dont get it when it comes to customer service and marketing. Microsoft has definitely lost a customer the day i split and bought a second phone which is a pure bberry. The next upgrade, i will skip winmo entirely and look at the offerings from android and webos...
live long and prosper microsoft - if u can!....
T-Mobile Germany released the update today:
http://www.t-mobile.de/shop/handy/0,4855,2963-_16608-0-8949;CNC-4,00.html
Yes, i've found it too. After uownloading and unpacking i got a file named "RUU_Rhodium_S_TMO_DE_1.85.111.1_Radio_Rhodium_4.49.25.05_Signed_Ship.exe". With 7zip i've seen, the date of the NBH is 17th of September, don't know which version they used.
But i don't want to have this (i guess) buggy and extremly branded system on my device. I'll wait for an unbranded HTC-release or one from O2(DE), these are nearly unchanged too.

is it possible to install òne of these roms on a vario V without any problems?
Hi
My experience with HTC (tornado, wizard, blackstone) are that they dont update the software. You have to rely on hacked roms for new updates.
This could be a microsoft-problem and since I now have my eyes on android I wonder if HTC will keep updating the desire...
Still no word on the froyo-update...
This alone could be an argument for buying nexus instead even if its uglied both in hardware and gui.
What do you think about this?

I had a Touch Pro, and since MS is the developer I would blame them not HTC for updating MS software. HTC did actually update the Touch Pro a while ago, and a second update of Winmo, should be released in due time. But I would still blame MS for their crappy 6.5 Winmo OS.
According to HTC, will Froyo come some where after Today and 12 weeks ahead. I guess that it will come rather sooner than later. And if somebody cant wait for offical OTA updates, root the device and update to Froyo.
Apparently the 23rd of June thing leaked by one of the support staff was tosh (supported by the fact that the date has been and gone and no Froyo yet!). One of HTC's spokes-people said at Google I/O that...
“We are working hard with our partners to update the HTC Sense experience on Froyo and distribute it to our customers as fast as possible. We expect to release updates for several of our 2010 models including Desire, Legend and Wildfire beginning in Q3″
Being as this is some super speedy new kernel I think its wise that they test their Sense UI to bits before issuing the update
That aside...GIVE ME 2.2 NOW!!!

What do you mean no word? They've confirmed that it is coming, but not given a precise timescale.
Past Froyo, I wouldn't expect further updates, but I suppose there is a slim chance we'll get Gingerbread. However, since Google will be moving to yearly OS updates after that, I can't see HTC providing anything beyond that - the economics of it just don't make any sense.
Regards,
Dave
Can you update with hacked roms and get everying working with the hardware (and just loose the gui) or is it like i remembered with the wizard, problems with drivers to the camera etc.. ?
If not i guess I could transform the desire-hardware into a fully updated gingerbread-nexus in future.
Given that the OS is open source, barring specific hardware requirements, there's no reason why later versions of AOSP Android couldn't be ported to the Desire. Unlike WinMo phones, we always have the option of compiling up Android to suit the hardware.
Regards,
Dave
Ok, how many threads are going to be like this???
Yes you can flash to froyo now and loose sense ui, give a look at development section and/or use search or even google search. HTC didnt officially stated anywhere yet that Froyo is coming to Desire @blabla... However there was a leak about Froyo, which was miscommunication and actually 23rd of June was the date when Google announced the release of code of Froyo to everyone. So from that date HTC is able to work on Froyo.
And look with help of search i was able to find this http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/29/htc-expect-desire-legend-and-wildfire-to-get-froyo-beginning/ and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=713588
Of course they forget about old devices, Touch HD and all those other devices are outdated. I had a TD2 and it got the free WM6.5 update but after that it was DEAD for HTC.
Dude, read the threads around here. As of today HTC has officially said 2.2 will come in Q3 of this year.

Not entirely true, the TD2 did get a Sense 2.5 after the promised WM 6.5 update. After that the TD2 was pretty much dead for HTC.
yeah they do, its hard to get support for older devices lol
Im hoping that as long as google continue to update the nexus, HTC will update Desire, Anyway what I read gingerbread is trying to clean up the UI's so there will be no need for manufacturers UI's, This will make updating in the futher alot easier I guess and possible updates will be pushed for longer even thought it will change to yearly, Alot of people are stuck with the same phone for around 2 years
