About to replace screen - want to replace screws too - P3300, MDA Compact III Accessories

Lst time I changed the screen I make a right mess of the tiny screws that hold the XDA together.
I need to put another screen on when I thought I wouldn't have to but I think I will need new screws, where can I get a pack?
Thanks

Changing covers - how easy is it?

Hi folks,
I have an XDA which has been upgraded to 64MB which has a bunch of scratches on the covers.
I have a spare XDA (32MB) - can I "easily" swap the covers - or is it a nightmare?
Any help/pointers/comments appreciated...
Thanks,
Geoff
its faily easy just remove the 2 silver screws (big) 2 screws (small) in the back, firmley open it into 2 parts by a small screw driver (use the area in the buttom as a biggining point, get it opened, 4 other + screws for the LCD & the front case is out 2 + screws on the Motherboard & the back back is out, what you can swap though is the battery because its glued in the back part & the vibrator since you don't need to replace it, try opening the one with scratched first to know how does't work then i would be really easy to open the other one
PS just in case you screw up i am not responsible of it, don't try to swap LCD or stuff & don't try to open it using your hand since the LCD is attached to the front part & connected to the MB by a cable & the MB screwed to the back part, so very gently things will go well
Many thanks for the advice...
Appreciated

tapping problems - touch screen is not working

Using my htc device suddenly touch screen went off and i could'nt use the stylus at all. The strange thing is that all of the other keys are working good. I tried hard reset the device but nothing happened. Now im stuck in the screen "tap the sreen to set up your windows mobile based device. Can anyone please help? Before the appearence of the above problem i was using google maps, if this helps.
many thanks
Does t have a crack in it? If so then it needs changing, if not then probably the ribbon has come out. Is it under warranty?
no there is nt any crack! everything was good and suddenly while i was tapping to check some maps, stopped.
Sorry for asking but ribbon is that thing above the screen? Is it possible to come out so soon? (6 months). and finally does the warranty covers ribbon change?
Sorry for the above questions but i really dont know what to do!
many thanks
call the company where you buy it from and ask them

If it's only 6 mths old it shoud be under warranty, so take it back to the place you ought it.
If you are determined to try to fix it yourself you have to do the following.
Remove the battery cover & battery.
Remove the 4 small screws
Remove the back-case by running your fingernail round the gap (hard 1st time then easy after that)
Remove 4 more screws
Remove front-case from the middle
Remove the motherboard assembly from the front case and unplug the screen/digitiser assembly, carefully pull that off the motherboard (again not easy 1st time).
You will now see the small digitiser ribbon at the bottom coming off the digitiser and disappearing into the bottom of the screen. It's very easy to take out and not easy to put back in. I use some flat-bladed tweezers to do mine but sometimes it takes a couple of tries. Obviously it's much easier if you are fitting a new digitiser because it's not fixed to the screen like yours will be. If you try to remove the digitiser chances are you will crack it. I re-fitted mine after removing my broken one by using thin cut strips of double-sided tape.
Before you do anything else, just clean with sharp knive or razor between the screen and the cover. You will be surprised how much rubish is is in there.
this things are keeping the screen pressed.
Hope it helps
many thanx 4 the instrustions guys. i'll try that. if everything ok i'll inform you. if not i'll give you my bank account number to deposit money in order to buy a new one.
many thanx again

help with power button parts

I was having trouble with my touchscreen - it kept registering presses in the middle when I wasn't even touching it. I've been out of warranty for 6 or so months so I decided to repair it myself. there was probably dust or hair stuck under the digitizer.
I took apart my phone, wiggled stuff around, and put it back together. that did the trick and my touchscreen is no longer an issue. however, I may have lost some parts for my power button. I don't have any detailed reference material / images to go by, so I don't know what's wrong. I _do_ have the long black piece that is the cover and the silver metal housing that goes over the microswitch. is there a third piece?
tl;dr - can someone take photos of their power switch for me? not the button on the top but the internals?
No there's not you may just need to open back up and make sure the parts are facing the right way.
I dropped my phone in water and put it in rice then rice got into it so I had to open to get it out

if there's no third part, can someone post a photo to show how the parts align? I'm not sure how it's supposed to go together.

Replace Chrome trim on SGS2?

I'm trying to find a source on whether I can replace the trim know my phone since it's been dinged from the previous owner as well as myself.
I've found some the link to the replacement screen thread but it doesn't say if the lcd is part of the top or how to get it out? I've seen some oem housings online but not sure if I can remove my lcd which is fine and put it in the newer housing?
Is there glue or adhesive that holds it in?
Thanks for any help.

You just need to unscrew the backplate and exchange it.
No glue no adhesives or something. it just sits there.
It will take about 10 minutes or so..
Here is a picture of the part:
Mine fell out of its place, the last i had the phone opened and i´m to lazy to put it back.
Edit: sorry for that huuuuge picture.. blame our 8mp camera.

Sorry - but I think we have a misunderstanding. I'm talking about the chrome trim around the entire LCD not the camera.
oh.. honestly i don´t think that the part you described is chrome. Atleast not on my GSII
and the thing i posted is the shiny ring around the headphone plug.
OP its not chrome its plastic..
1) replace the whole screen housing with with working parts from say ebay
2) buy a whole SGS2 housing unit and plus top screen ( this option you'll need to remove youe current lcd screen and once replaced in new housing the top screen needs to be bonded to housing. (M3 double sided tape or a thin silcon glue)
3) take it to a service centre
4)keep it as it is..
as par your question
Is there glue or adhesive that holds it in? Yes.
Top screen will need to be heated with hot air to release it from its bond.

Thanks - that's what I wanted to hear. So it's more effort than I'd like to spend on it. Looks like I'll just move the phone to try something else.

[tut][tips]replace your power button!

Hey guys :victory:
Many of us have the power button problem. Mine was so damaged that i literally had to hurt my finger to turn it on/off. I decided to replace it myself, as my warranty expired.
I'm sorry i said i would have made a video of it but i dont have a camera, so i can just help you with the steps i took.
First of all, i had to buy the replacement for the flex cable of the volume rocker+power button.
Here's what i bought http://www.ebay.it/itm/330846683561?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 wich is the cheapest i found (and it's original, exactly the same as the one already inside the phone).
Then, as i didn't have a kit to do it, i bought this http://www.ebay.it/itm/111091878763?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649, which is a very good kit.
I bought it for also other stuff but to fix our phone i only used the first 3 pieces from the left, the cross screwdriver, and the long piece on the top. The other pieces are not needed to fix the power button, so if you want you can just look for what i mentioned. But i can assure you that what i used is very important, without them you cant really take the screen out.
Ok! Once arrived, i started fixing it!
Unluckily i couldnt find on youtube a well made disassembly tutorial, but well, what i found was enough:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXft7kDwUL8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w96ldQq5Q2k
Watching these 2 videos, i understood how to take the antenna part off (which is not easy at all).
Ok, if you are also willing to fix your button on your own, here are some tips i can give you:
- The antenna part seems very fragile, so take your time, don't force it off if it resists.
Once you took the 6 screws off, you need to pull the piece off. Don't worry that plastic piesce doesn't have any cable, so you can take it off without worrying. Under it there's some glue and stuff, but force it a little and it will come off.
- In the 2 videos, as you can see, when he takes the antenna part off, you can see a part moving around. In my case, that didn't come off with the plastic piece, it had glue sticking it to the case. I unsticked it very carefully using the long piece of the kit. Be very careful there, do not pull it until it's all unsticked, because it is connected to the screen, and if you pull it you could either break the cable or the piece itself.
- once that is all unsticked, you need to take the screen off. Ok that was drammatic, not easy at all, it took me almost 30 minutes. After removing the screws under the camera plastic piece, you can start pushing as they do in the video. To help it coming out, i had to put the 2 aluminium pieces (the 2 identical ones) at the sides, between the screen and the case. Don't worry at pushing it in, i did it hard but my case didn't scratch or anything. You will see the screen coming up little by little, when you can, take it out with your hands (slowly! don't crack it!)
Oooook, when that part is done, you don't need the videos anymore.
I didn't take the battery out, you don't need to. Remove the black plastic piece covering the camera, it has only 3 screws.
Once that's done, on the left side of the screen, you will see the flex cable we need to replace. It has some glue but don't worry, take it off, that's broken anyway while taking it off, be careful not to break the cable inside the connector, because the space is tight and i guess it would be hard pulling it out.
Ok! Once done, take your new flew cable, and put it in the connector, then take the adhesive off and put the parts where they were before, There are some little holes in it to guide you when replacing it.
Once done, before re assembling the phone, try the power button and volume as well. (that's why i didn't remove the battery). If it works, you can now re assemble your phone. So put the black plastic piece on the camera again, next you have to reinsert the screen in the case. I suggest you start by the side of the volume rocker, and then push the rest inside.
Now, you need to reasseble the antenna part. Before doing that, be sure tto re-stick the moving part to the case, in the exact position as before, otherwise when you put back the antenna cover you'll se it wont close well. (That took me quite a while, it's not easy at it seems).
Put the screws back int and boom! You are done
Your power button now works!!!!!
Sorry again for not taking a video, or photos, but well, as i did it, you can do it too.
I hope you can all understand the guide!
Bye bye

Hardware repair is recommended but for those who aren't family with it and your device is rooted. I've a software solution fixed this problem completely, read my post #24 about Quickboot + Screen Off and Lock + android.policy.jar
WOW didn't know this was even possible way to go man. Amazing. I'd never have dared it.
This was really interesting and I'm looking to try it soon

Next, replacing the digitizer, i cracked it :banghead:

Mine's broken too, but we went to someone to get it fixed (with just he glass that we had ordered off of ebay) and we were told that the digitizer was attatched to the LCD, and there were chances of touch not working.
Yeah I noticed that :/
