Please Test : Free realtime GPS track software - Windows Mobile Software Development

Hello all,
I've developped my first PPC software. If you want, please test it and report bugs and tips or whatever to me! Please download the lastest version from http://fiets.galway.nl/ so I don't have to edit this page whenever I make a change!
It is software (called BikeTrack, because the first idea was to use it to save my biketracks) that will collect your location from your (internal) gps receiver and sends them to a server(realtime or whenever you want it) (http://fiets.galway.nl/) where your location (and the following track) can be viewed. Also previous trips will be viewable. It's very simple, but it works!
Please register your username at http://fiets.galway.nl/reg.php and try the software. Let me know what you think of it(s functionality). It's a 56kb executable for (i think >= WM5) PPC's. You need a working dataconnection (sends location every second) and a GPS receiver. If your gpsreceiver stops sending its location when you suspend your device please read the webpage to see what to do.
Snempaa
TODO:
- Starting and stopping the tracking by incoming textmessage
- Send and show current speed [in client, server and webpages]
Updates: (v0.81)
- Using "tripnames" in realtime and offline mode, so users can name their trips
- Delete trips from server
- Auto find GPS [in client] -just finished, please test.. does it work with BT-GPS?
- Offline mode, save trips for later uploading (for people without internet subscription)
- You can now also download your trips from fiets.galway.nl to use in Google Earth.
- You can now see the distance of the (current) trip(s) on fiets.galway.nl
- You can now also view earlier uploaded trips.
- Server now multi user capable
- Client now uses login procedure
- Webpages available for more than one user (register, login, etc)
- Bad j2me client -> better C# one.
- Added functionality to show whole (current trip)
- First version j2me client, only shows current location

Email I got
Hi there,
Your software is pretty interesting. I copied the software on my micro-SDHC card used in my XDA Comet from Germany mobile carrier O2.
My device is working on windows mobile 6 and I use an external gps receiver. But the software causes an error.
Question: Does someone have the same experience with wm6?
Many thanks in advance for your feedback,
* from Germany

My reply
I haven't had the opportunity to test the software with an external
GPS receiver, because mine has it build in. Maybe that is the problem.
I also run WM6 and do not have a problem running the software. You are
sure you entered the right comport? What error is it exactly, could
you give me a more detailled description of the error.
> so anyone else got this problem?? Thanks for letting me know... I also would like hints and tips for enhancing the software!

German error message:
Unerwarteter Fehler in BikeTrackMobile.exe.
So I pressed "Details" and the following error message:
bei System.IO.Ports.SerialStream..ctor()
bei System.IO.Ports.SerialPort.Open() bei BikeTrackMobile.BikeTrackMobile.sendTheread()

i tried it with the mogul (titan/6800) in America on sprint and it says unable to open comport. its ser to com4. is there a different comport i should be using or did i miss something??

You should use the comport where your GPS is connected to. I will try to write the enhancement that it will autodetect the comport, but it will take a couple of days, because I wont be home untill the weekend.

Please try if the auto detect function also works with BT-GPS and let me know! Thanks

Hi, just wanted to ask... if there is a chance to use commands for auto start and auto end + if it would be possible to run the application on background.
Ya know, i was thinking, this would be cool application for real time monitoring such your kids, stolen phone etc... Together with for example mjustice it would be really cool to start the application by SMS from another phone (as well as stop the application by SMS if needed).
Thanks, I will keep testing.

I don't know how to do that right now, but I shall take a look at it soon! Must be possible!

Could anyone confirm if the autodetect function works with a bluetooth gpsreceiver or not? Thanks!
Other tips ofcourse still welcome!

American users
Hello all,
Can somebody from north or south america test this software, the current active users are only from the W coordinates and I get the idea that there is a bug in the software that prevents the software to work over there.
Thanks,
Wouter

Please all try the software again, there was a huge bug in the server code, preventing this software to work in Southern and Western coordinates. Please try again.

You do have the latest version? here ?
It should definatly save the gps comport into the registry....could you make me a video of all the errors? using my mobiler or something? Thanks, then I can look into it, because I really dont know where to start now. Maybe you can add me on icq (9565838) so we can do some realtime testing (to see what the server does when you're trying to log in...)

Hey, can you help with a problem with it powering off during my rides? I've tried Deltalock, but that also seems to power off after about 2 minutes.
I see on your website about editing HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Suspend and the other two, but not sure what to do here.
I see com7: gpd0: and log9: but not sure what to do.. my gps is com4, do I put com4: and make the value 1?

Anybody know, how to switch on/off GSM module by software?

Hi all,
I recently migrated from old Handspring Treo 180g (PalmOS smartphone)
to new MDA III and now, only one thing miss me, a little utility (called TreoTools), which was able control switch on/off of GSM module by a sheduling.
So i was able to shedule to turn off module everyday at midnight and turn on back 8:40am at workdays and 11:00am at weekends.
This greatly improvement battery life on that device.
PLEASE, does anybody know, if exists similar utility for MDA III ?
Thanks alot !
Hi,
I think this software will help you
Thank very much !
This utility works perfectly, but do only a radio off (as its names). Unfortunately this can't do a "tooggle", and when is radio already off, popups an error message.
OK, there is other utility, shipped with MDAIII, RestartRadio.exe to turn radio ON. Unfortunately, it needs to launch twice, when radio is off  .
Code:
EDIT: Hey, i discovered, that RestartRadio.exe DO a radio togle !
Any idea, how with this two (now one) utilities do a daily shedule? Turn off at midnights, and mornigs turn ON? Some scheduler, that can launching .exe at specified time ?
Thx

use the pocketgear link you can download it there ..... anyway i uploaded the files, here sthe evaluation version of PhoneSnooze 2.0 and the PocketZenPhone 4.51

I was were busy for last few days.
Want to thanx all, who tried to help me !!
I tryed these software utilities, and it seems, that PhoneSnooze work perfectly with MDAIII !!!! Thanx again.
P.S. i find yet another program for this task:
http://www.slipstreamsolutions.co.uk/products/mPhoneSchedule.htm
The difference between PhoneSnooze and PhoneShedule is, that PhoneShedule plays a sounds while phone is switched on/off (it is good to know, that phone going off or on) and can also switching power to BlueTooth !! But seem to be little unstabled. (maybe due WM2003SE)
could you post a link to restart radio.exe?
I tried an eval. version of mPhoneSchedule and although the interface is great and it looks quite a good program, I found the following serious problems.
-Does not schedule properly when phone power is off. Specifically I mean when the radio is on and the phone is sleeping, i.e nothing is on the screen it will not turn radio off. Seems a bit ridiculous. I am trying to save power, why would I want to require that the device be fully on to turn the radio off.
-Only will turn BT on/off with radio if you have Microsoft BT, not Broadcom.
I am still also searching for a tool that accomplishes this. Can anyone chime in on the review above. Does PocketZenPhone have the limitations above?

WM6Voip.cab

Hi everyone!
I've installed WM6 official o2, happy with it so far.
I've installed WM6Voip.cab and have set up sipgate.co.uk with it and it does seem to be working, even though it always says "Sipgate: searching".
My only problem is that the German lady on 10000 is waaaay to quiet even though the volume is up full I can't hear her any louder than a whisper...
Any thoughts?
I've tried with the speaker and the headset, same result....
Sorry I'm not able to help but where can I find the VOIP cab please?
Thanks
N
I haven't been able to overcome the volume issue myself! What I have done though is to use SJPhone (voip softphone) which runs nicely on Windows mobile. This in fact does not require the voip package to be installed even.
Link to site is: http://www.sjlabs.com/sjp.html
I hope it goes well if you try it out.
Cheers.
Here it is.

Thanks for that. I'll give it a try
Edit>
Installed WM6VoIP.cab and SetupVoIP_v0.3.cab and entered the details of my Asterisk Server but I can't see any evidence of my phone doing anything. - O2 XDA Orbit with official O2 WM6 - No O2 stuff.
WiFi is working fine and I can surf but the phone doesn't attempt to register.
Any ideas please?
Edit 2>
Soft reset, switch on WiFi and I can see the phone registering and call extensions and the phone can be called. I can also make outgoing calls. However, I cant do *56* which should tell my asterisk box to read back my extension.
I also have almost inaudible sound.
Getting there though. Great work folks!
Thanks

about 'searching'
that might be a bug. Nevertheless it works.
I've installed the VM VI Black voip & config file and afterwards the original WM6Voip rtcdll. Now my display says 'activated'

It's really hard to believe that any VoIP client who play the sound just only on the loud speakerphone will become a real cellular telephony alternative. Everyone who got to be a VoIP nerd know the importance of routing the voice on the earpiece, and know this is the Microsoft Windows Mobile fatal weakness comparing with NOKIA and iPhone platform capabilities.

GPS Navigator Quick Patch(Multi-language)

actully, it is a 50kB tiny software once came with official rom......working on wm6.
it have only a simple dialog. Auto-select Multi-language.(i see some resouse in Ita, Ger... ...)
Function:it downloads a 3-days global sattelites position data into your mobile, (use GPRS about 1kb), then in next 3 days, the navigator software(like tomtom) will get sattelites signal in 5 seconds!!! no matter how you shutdown or reboot.
i have no idea how it works, but it really works wonderful !!
After data downloaded, it can be exit (the data will still working), so it won't occupy any memory.
as i said in my other threads, my english sucks, and maybe something i am posting is a ages-old-news to others, but please dont laugh at me
Works great!!!!!!
Thanks.
Can you please clarify from which "official" WM6 rom you took that out from?
Hope you are not talking about MIO A701 and it wasn't placebo effect

it is from a Dopod (oem from HTC) simplify chinese and China Mobile Company oem software wm5 rom. Should exist in some other language rom but so far no further infomation about souce.Delivered too many times before i get it.
nothing Copyright&About info in this software, but it is very well designed and someone spend lots of time to make it good and with so many languages. although it is old, the server which it gets data from is still working fast and the satellite position data is uptodate every hour. so i guess it must come from something big, like HTC company or a global orgnization.
it is ok for you to doubt its effect (because i did too)
For example, if you usually need about 2 minutes to let navigator working after a cold-reboot. Install this software and update once, then do as many reboot as you want, however the navigator will take only 5 seconds to get satellites, except you are staying in house or you run the navigator after more than 3 days from you last update.
the compare result should be obvious, But i am glad if u tell me it is not working on yours, cause i cant figure out how it working.
no problem to install the log on my trinity, but the download of the satellite base is impossible by GPRS or wifi !
thanks.
does it download data via HSDPA?
Just tried this on my Trinity. Installs fine and downloads ephemeris data via ActiveSync fine but doesn’t appear to decrease TTFF…
There’s been plenty of banter around why A-GPS (whether it’s from your carrier or pre-downloaded) won’t work with the Trinity driver for the GPSOne QualComm chip, but I thought I would try anyway. Love to be proven wrong
download ok after a soft reset.
but in TomTom, no change; so don't work on (my) trinity ...
Hi,i think like quickgps that is a placebo effect with qualcomm
installs and downloads the ephemeris file fine.
Not sure it actually doing anything- as posted by numerous other folks.
Even so, it was a very good price ;-)
this morning i tried once more, and it takes 30 seconds, didn't works as good as yesterday. but still faster then normal.
i believe the reginal setting should be setted to real location.

for me it's work fine : I've just instal and try it with TomTom. It take 20sec to do the cold first fix. If it's a placebo it's a good one!
My usually cold first fix was in 1 or 2 min.
ps : I use UDK WM6. Gps settings : com9, 57600baud / TomTom settings : other NMEA GPS, COM9, 57600baud
My S300+ is now as fast as my old MioA701.
Does not seem to work on my Trinity here in the UK,
still takes for ever to get a fix.
Guys, I don't want to pour cold water on to your dreams - but this cab is for Mio, presumably A700/A701 that contains a SiRF-III chip. This would be useful to P3300 aka Artemis - but should have no effect on those Qualcomm chips.
If someone do get the version from Kaiser working on Trinity, I'm more than happy to know
Just installed, downloaded satellite file.
Did a very very cold fix (a few months without launching TomTom) : took 5 min to fix.
My 2 cents : definitely placebo effect

-- Sending timed SMS from the GPS position --

Hello friends,
Anyone knows any application that can send SMS from the GPS position that that you are from min to min ?
I would like to keep another cell phone updated with the position.
Hi,
Check out WIMP 1.2. It is an anti Theft tool which allows you to get the Position of your PDA (with internal GPS) by simply writing an spezial formated SMS to it.

Alternatively you can use MobileJustice, does the same and it's free (OpenSource) - but afaik you can't schedule, the other phone can request the coordinates.
LocationSMS also sends SMS with coordinates, but not scheduled, afaik.

I just posted because WIMP's the same, but afaik this one is commercial..isn't it ?

No idea if there is a tool that automatically sends sms by interval...?!

i had the same problem sometime ago - when i started tomtom, locationsms could find the coordinates - was like it wasn't able to initialize the gps ?
have you tried this way ? maybe it works for you ?
Hi,
WIMP is a comercial Program indeed. Just some options which convinced myself:
- Wimp send a message when SIM Card is replaced (sends the new Tel. Number to a predefined mobile number)
- It`ll send the current location of the "stolen" mobile by request with speed and heading directions.
- you can hide WIMP completely from all nearly all folders and uninstall lists to make it nearly invisible on the phone.
Greetings

Orange touch HD + tomtom= no GPS device?

Hi,
I signed up a touch HD with orange UK yesterday. The first thing I did was to install TOMTOM on the machine. However, TOMTOM kept reporting no GPS device. If it finds the internal GPS receiver, then it is 20 minutes later. One thing I notice is that when TOMTOM is looking for the GPS receiver, there is something trying to connect to the internet.
I am sure I did everthing right as I was using this copy of tomtom on the touch diamond and it worked like a treat.
Did orange do anything to the GPS so people can only use their stupid orange map? If they did, is there any way that I can get the tomtom working?
Many thanks in advance.
Thank you for all your advice and the problem has been solved. Here are a few tips for people who have the same problem.
1. A-GPS can only make things worse, switch it off.
2. Update your quick-GPS data.
3. It seems that tomtom struggles to find GPS device on certain orange handset. If you are the unlucky one, try change your hand set with orange. If you don’t want to go through the trouble, open google map to locate satellite before open tomtom.
4. Debrand the handset.
5. Orange’s customer service is crap, stay away if you can
Have you tried updating QuickGPS in the programmes.
Also check A-GPS is disabled in windows settings.

Thanks, I have updated the quickGPS the first thing. I have the a-gps enabled, though it could help to locate the satallite.
I think it is recomended to be disabled.
Perhaps try it if you have not.
GPS always worked fine for me with the stock Orange ROM, that was with 1.14 though, I think they come with 1.19 now, it also works fine with all of the cooked ROMs I've tested. Perhaps the version of TomTom you have isn't fully compatible with the HD (I did notice you said it worked on the Diamond, but perhaps there's a hardware/software difference on the HD which stops it working.

Thanks all for your help. Disable A-GPS seems hlep a lot. I will try again today.
By the way, UK orange's customer service is what I call crap. I called them about the GPS last night and a idiot tell me that as far as I can make phone calls, my phone is fine.

Don’t blame them, that is way we are here.
My tomtom version is 7.915.9196, with latest UK and Ireland map v830.2307
but unfortunately it doesn’t support 7 point postcode system just accept 4 digit post code and in order to find the address you actually need to know name of the street as well. But I have iGO with 7PPC which it is fantastic.

830.207 works just fine with 7 digit postcodes, as have all maps for the last couple of years.

may I ask what version of tomtom are you using?
7.915.916
it is non-standard feature, but you just need an additioal 'zip' folder

thanks for telling me.
ok now for everyone which already had tomtom without 7 digit postcode, do as I listed here:
01- Downloaded the file
www.tomtom.com/updates/great_britainpostal_all.zip
02- copy it into new folder (folder's name doesn't matter)
03- extract it.
04- click on setup.exe
05- choose "i agree" then click next.
06- choose Pocket PC (Windows CE)
07- choose install Tom Tom Great Britin Postcode then click next.
08- choose other location (Advanced)
09- choose Folder on the computer
10- select any folder you want
the software will generate a zip folder
after getting the zip folder move it to your SD card's Root
start TOM TOM you will be able to do a full 7 digit postcode search.
dead link
link not working for me?
can some one try it and report working or not
thanks
I often get the 'GPS device not found' error on my Orange HD also. A quick fix I've found is to run Google Maps first and lock onto a GPS signal in there, before opening TomTom. Seems to 'solve' the problem for now...

it shouldn't be like that, when I had Stock ROM on my HD I used to had similar problem beside long waiting time before tomtom finds signal (about 15 ~ 20s) but after flashing HD with Custom ROM every problem is gone, now it finds signal in less than 5 second

Exactly what I was going to say.. I had the same problem with mine running 7.9something. If you run google maps in the backgroungd it almost jump started the gps. I have also found that once you get a gps signal it seems to keep it easier..... dunno if thats just hopeful. Oh yes and I am on Orange too stock rom.
