actully, it is a 50kB tiny software once came with official rom......working on wm6.
it have only a simple dialog. Auto-select Multi-language.(i see some resouse in Ita, Ger... ...)
Function:it downloads a 3-days global sattelites position data into your mobile, (use GPRS about 1kb), then in next 3 days, the navigator software(like tomtom) will get sattelites signal in 5 seconds!!! no matter how you shutdown or reboot.
i have no idea how it works, but it really works wonderful !!
After data downloaded, it can be exit (the data will still working), so it won't occupy any memory.
as i said in my other threads, my english sucks, and maybe something i am posting is a ages-old-news to others, but please dont laugh at me
Works great!!!!!!
Thanks.
Can you please clarify from which "official" WM6 rom you took that out from?
Hope you are not talking about MIO A701 and it wasn't placebo effect

it is from a Dopod (oem from HTC) simplify chinese and China Mobile Company oem software wm5 rom. Should exist in some other language rom but so far no further infomation about souce.Delivered too many times before i get it.
nothing Copyright&About info in this software, but it is very well designed and someone spend lots of time to make it good and with so many languages. although it is old, the server which it gets data from is still working fast and the satellite position data is uptodate every hour. so i guess it must come from something big, like HTC company or a global orgnization.
it is ok for you to doubt its effect (because i did too)
For example, if you usually need about 2 minutes to let navigator working after a cold-reboot. Install this software and update once, then do as many reboot as you want, however the navigator will take only 5 seconds to get satellites, except you are staying in house or you run the navigator after more than 3 days from you last update.
the compare result should be obvious, But i am glad if u tell me it is not working on yours, cause i cant figure out how it working.
no problem to install the log on my trinity, but the download of the satellite base is impossible by GPRS or wifi !
thanks.
does it download data via HSDPA?
Just tried this on my Trinity. Installs fine and downloads ephemeris data via ActiveSync fine but doesn’t appear to decrease TTFF…
There’s been plenty of banter around why A-GPS (whether it’s from your carrier or pre-downloaded) won’t work with the Trinity driver for the GPSOne QualComm chip, but I thought I would try anyway. Love to be proven wrong
download ok after a soft reset.
but in TomTom, no change; so don't work on (my) trinity ...
Hi,i think like quickgps that is a placebo effect with qualcomm
installs and downloads the ephemeris file fine.
Not sure it actually doing anything- as posted by numerous other folks.
Even so, it was a very good price ;-)
this morning i tried once more, and it takes 30 seconds, didn't works as good as yesterday. but still faster then normal.
i believe the reginal setting should be setted to real location.

for me it's work fine : I've just instal and try it with TomTom. It take 20sec to do the cold first fix. If it's a placebo it's a good one!
My usually cold first fix was in 1 or 2 min.
ps : I use UDK WM6. Gps settings : com9, 57600baud / TomTom settings : other NMEA GPS, COM9, 57600baud
My S300+ is now as fast as my old MioA701.
Does not seem to work on my Trinity here in the UK,
still takes for ever to get a fix.
Guys, I don't want to pour cold water on to your dreams - but this cab is for Mio, presumably A700/A701 that contains a SiRF-III chip. This would be useful to P3300 aka Artemis - but should have no effect on those Qualcomm chips.
If someone do get the version from Kaiser working on Trinity, I'm more than happy to know
Just installed, downloaded satellite file.
Did a very very cold fix (a few months without launching TomTom) : took 5 min to fix.
My 2 cents : definitely placebo effect

I tried to use this on my P3300 for a couple of weeks and it never worked. Gave me some error about network connection not made. I just uninstalled it and went back to using the Quick GPS Fix file that redirects the DL from different servers (unknown) from HTC's. Don't know how effective it is but it downloads at least.

Chaps/Ladies (do we have any?!),
I've been using TT5 for a couple of weeks now, and have a strange problem! Every now and then, randomly, TT5 will just exit whilst navigating. I drove 170 miles yesterday and it closed itself four times, the phone was off on three of the four occasions, as was wifi and BT.
I've also had it freeze once or twice. The display just stops updating, though I can still tap the screen and exit cleanly. This used to happen more frequently with TT3.
I've only run TT5 on the new 1.40 ROM.
Anyone else suffering?
TIA
Dan

Argh! Another quirk. I think I'm gonna sell my XDA2s on Ebay, and buy a map, a diary, and a Nokia 1110.
I use TT5 daily & have never had a problem with it exiting. The display occasionally freezes, butI think I can put this down to when the traffic info is being updated because it only happens occasionally & it unfreezes after about 30 seconds or so

My experience is that TomTom 5 will not start calculating a route without a valid GPS device attached - I'm just going to verify that though

Well that shows how much I know about TomTom 5 . It is definitely possible to generate driving instructions without a GPS device attached 8) .
Go into the "Advanced Planning" option and simply pick your start and end points. You will then have a route that you can display as text, images etc, or even "demo" the route i.e. simulate it at speeds from 10% to 500% of "real time"

I switch off all POI.
Thank you.
Thanks Weasel. I'll go ahead and load TomTom5 before my GPS arrives.
I have an XDA IIs with TT3, after i first installed it noticed it would crash randomly, which became really really annoying. After messing around with settings and 3rd-party software, i got nowhere. So I removed the **** O2 software that comes with the IIs, low and behold no more crashing.
Is this also the case for TT5, I would like to know before upgrading?
Don't really want to have to turn off the POI's to make it work.
This is all pretty interesting. I'm running a 1.40 O2 ROM and TomTom is not-as-stable-as-it-could-be. I'm going to do some more qualitative analysis to try and work out which of the crappy O2 software is the culprit - or if it's TomTom itself.
We've got quite a few XDAIIs here and both of the ones with TomTom are flakey. More details to follow...
[edit] Should have said - this is TomTom Navigator 5, with both bluetooth and wired GPS receivers.
AFAIK, the O2 Active software produces a memory leak. There are suggestions that TTN5 also produces a memory leak on 640x480 VGA devices. Perhaps the two are interacting? (Yes I know the XDA2s isn't VGA). Try monitoring available RAM while TTN5 is running. If it constantly reduces it will reach a point where the s/w crashes.
Where are we?
@ all:
Anyone know a solution to this problem? Apparently we need to use the POI.dat file from earlier installations, i.e. 4 or 3 and it will only crash 1% of the time. Until there is a patch for this we will have to settle for this solution it seems.
BTW, does anyone happen to have the POI.dat file for the Benelux map, version 3 or 4? I seem to have "misplaced" my cd with the map on it, anyone can help a brutha out? PM me?
Cheers in advance!
I've switched off POI ( that's NP for dutch users ) so it's stable now.
Any word on the arrival of a patch for this problem?

Sorry about creating another one of these threads, I hate them as much as you but I really need to get GPS working in WM6 or I am going to have to downgrade. The reason I brought my trinity was because of the GPS, without it I may as well use my prophet! No matter what I try I cant get any GPS app to work, not tomtom, not gpsinfo, not pocketstreets, not even google maps!
There is no easily found information on the settings for gps within WM6, so maybe we can put that info here in order to reduce these kind of threads in the future!
If someone could answer this, it would help me and others greatly; What WORKING settings are being used under WM6 for the trinity?????
Com9 115200
Not working for me either... was a SPV m700, now WM6 (lmvd? edition).. google maps says seeking satellites, but none appear. This is right out in the open, where my bt gps unit picks up 4 satellites.
I really need this to work as well

If it does not work try a lower baud setting.

And give it some time for the very first fix...
That might take up to 10 minutes or even more...Make sure your Trinity can 'see' the sky, and just wait some more.
This applies only to first fix, after that it should be well under a minute for a 'warm' start
yea but it should be able to see the GPS device right?
using the settings above, tomtom still gives me nothing other than 'No GPS Device' much like the other programs I have tryed. Surely if it was seeing the GPS it would say 'No valid GPS signal' or 'Waiting for valid gps signal'
Have been advised to upgrade to latest version of tomtom which I have and it makes no diffrence.......
PS I cant thank you all enough for your help!

sorry saminegm your right. Yes I am on the latest version of tom tom 6.030 (bulid 8320) The problem I am having is that all I get is 'No GPS device' when using the settings above.
Right, it gets odder. I've used the settings suggested. Now, when I leave google maps searching for satellites, it seems to crash after a few mins. The screen goes black, and the power button doesn't turn it on. I have to soft reset it.
Try it with lower baud rates? Does this lessen it's power?
Thanks everyone, much appreciated
Tried it all the way down to 9600, no luck. I won't take the phone back until I've tested it with TomTom, though.
I Have now sorted my problem with a reflash of the GSM_1.41.00.11 radio rom on the LVSW thread!
Despite me having done this once before, my radio rom was still the old orange one! reflashed it with GSM_1.41.00.11 and it works a treat!
ChrisFilter I take it you are having a similar problem; try going into system settings and device information. Then make sure your radio version is 1.41.00.11 if its not reflash it with the GSM_1.41.00.11 radio rom and it should sort your problems out!
And once again Thanks your all your help guys!
Already on 1.41.00.11
Maybe I'll try reflashing.. if not, back to f***ing WM5 / Orange
Wahey! On my 7th attempt, with google maps, in my garden, it worked. Impressed.. accurate tracking, could see myself walk round the garden, snazzy! :d

Google maps for WM - It's over and over again....
It is rather misleading - it DOESN'T use any real GPS device on your phone, or any external BT either. It is a pay service instead, which uses provider dependent LBS.

Has anybody had any luck with Google Maps on WM6 with respect to the GPS function??
Googlemaps installs and works OK but the GPS doesn't seem to work (although some time ago on WM5 I think it did??)
TomTom works fine and gets a lock in a few minutes??
Is there a version of GoogleMaps that works with the Trinity built in GPS?? (I did try setting in the program GPS Port 9 speed 11500, but no joy)
Any ideas?
Cheers

I have no problem with piching up a fix.
Are you using the latest version from the Google site or another one 'floating' around in the forums??
I use a cooked ROM of UDK 3.0 with WM6 and Google Maps work very fine. I have just installed the new radio 1.46.30.11 and the fix is very fast ( about 40 sec.)
If it's not from the Google site any chance of a link?? Maybe there is a 'modified' one that works with the Trinity correctly?
I assume there are no other settings to make in GoogleMaps to use the internal GPS on Port 9?
Cheers
Ody
When I first tried Google maps with GPS, it was having difficulty getting a fix. Not being able to see how many satellites you have a fix on makes it hard to see where the problem lies.
To check if the GPS was working, I initiated the GPS on the camera and got a fix. Back to Google Maps and selected 'Track Location', within seconds it got a fix.
I think Google maps are handy but a bit of a novelty. As it costs you to download the images all of the time, I prefer to use my dedicated GPS software.

Ho la stessa configurazione e funziona bene..
I've been using SeaSGEE instead of quickGPS for a few days - the GPS fix is now within seconds whereas on QuickGPS it could be minutes - in fact I just don't think QuickGPS had any effect at all on GPS performance!
One question though - SeasGEE has an option to automatically update, but I can't see anywhere in startup or similar that would be doing something automatic, and SeasGEE is basically running straight from its EXE - I don't have an installer that might have made some reg mods or something... and with all the new ROMS around, I haven't had one on long enough without a hard reset to know if the automatic update works! Any suggestions or info?
I think u're right. I'm using the B&B 4.2 for now, and it's really a good rom. I got a fix gps within 10 seconds if I let the A-GPS connecting to Orange server, but if I just use QuickGps, my fix is as long as on my P3600...
On my phone, in France, QuickGps is like a placebo  it doesn't help to get a fix quicker.
Then I'm going to try with SeaSGEE, and I'll report.
Edit : I just tried SeaSGEE, and there is no change, fix still long. But A-GPS orange rocks.

In theory, yes.
In fact, it doesn't on my M650, rom BB 4.2. However, A-GPS from M650 helps to find the fix within 10 seconds.

SeaSGEE rocks for me... now i have a fix in seconds, and even while i'm driving it has a fix in seconds, where before it was a pain to get a fix while driving!
using a t-mobile MDA CIII with vanilla 2.0 rom from meschle
SeaSGEE is working very well for me as well; significantly better than QuickGPS ever did. For some reason QuickGPS started failing on downloads so I decided to give SeaSGEE a try and boy am I happy I did.

And... I got a fix in 30 seconds... With A-gps Orange, when it's raining, I got a fix in 10 seconds.
So, do you think SeaSGEE doesnt work as well because I got a SPV M650 (running on BB 4.2) ?
I think the accuracy of the ephemeridis depends on the country you're in. That's why in France QuickGPS and SeaSGEE do not work (and i've got a P3300).

I have it installed on the Storage Card - and works fine for me...!
but then how do I know it's not just the QuickGPS doing the work? Because that too updates automatically everytime I connect via activesync....
Where does it save the Downloaded file?
So Aaron McCarthy discovered a new Vogue rom for Telus users (I REPEAT: TELUS ONLY!!!). It was at one of the known IP addresses which HTC has used. It was accidentally leaked or opened for a tester, I suppose. It's also seemingly no longer available... I get "Directory Listing Denied" when I follow the link now. So, of course I've uploaded my copy to rapidshare. Back up any important files on your phone and then enjoy:
http://rapidshare.com/files/1282900...4350H_3.41.00_Ship_withPPSTPatch1.20.exe.html
It'll be easy to install, just run the EXE on your windows XP/Vista computer, connect your vogue with Activesync or Windows Mobile Device Center when the program prompts you to do so, and follow the on-screen instructions. It took me approximately 15 minutes to do this. Add five for letting the phone customize itself.
I also did some messing with it to get everything working. It does not fully function out of box (which is probably why it's not actually released yet).
For me, the steps that got the GPS and Internet to work:
-Dial *22803 , 1 (for English), 1 (program your handset). Wait for reset.
-Install Google Maps and a registry editor.
-Search for a registry key called GPSMODE and change it's dword value from 2 to 4. This may not be necessary, but it worked for me.
<EDIT>Registry change is definitely not necessary, I've tried it both ways with no different effect. What this setting does might be explained better in the next post.</EDIT>
-Soft reset.
-Run Google Maps and any other freeware, no problem.
I'm certain that some GPS programs will require initialization/tweaks, and I'd bet that most of those have already been examined elsewhere in this forum. Anyway the GPS is seemingly solid and accurate. I placed it next to a handheld garmin unit and speed, lattitude, longitude were matched on both devices over a half-hour trip. It will certainly NOT work indoors.
As for Rev.A, I honestly cannot tell you anything about it. I'm in a CDMA only area for the next 3 weeks.
Thanks again to Aaron McCarthy for discovering the Rom and letting us know so that I could copy it before we got locked out. Here's the thread he started : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2385096
by setting GPSMode to 4 you disable the GPS. Not the best idea....
GPSMode 1 = ONLY pure GPS
GPSMode 2 = GPS + aGPS
GPSMode 4 = aGPS only
Got it installed without any issues. However Google maps and the Telus Navigator programs don't seem to be able to find the GPS... Well, to be more precise, googlemaps doesn't give an error. It just sits there seeking satellites. The Telus NAV doesn't get past the startup screen. Any suggestions?
WM6.1 is working fine on my phone but is it possible that I actually don't have the built in GPS even though it is a Telus HTC Touch?

It has been known since a while that all Vogues phones (or CDMA Touch) have the GPS hardware built in. It is just not activated by Telus yet.
This new ROM should be released officially by Telus soon in order to let users have GPS and better performance.

Rev A
Has anyone else tested to see if Rev A gives better performance?
Also, does this ROM improve Bluetooth and device overall performance?

Thanks for this ROM. Can't be more easy to upgrade a ROM.
GPS is working fine. It took several try and a very clear sky (no tree) to make first connexion. It was so slow to connect that I suspect AGPS (cellular tower triangulation assist) is not working.
At 3 bars of reception, in EVDO REV A zone, I get a DL speed of 150 to 400kb/s which is pretty lame and just a bit better than before rev A.
One problem:
When clicking on status icons on the top bar (volume, battery, etc.), it used to display the control directly. Now it displays an intermediate screen repeating those icons but in a larger mode. It is buggy because it doesn't display message icons if I previously clicked Dismiss. Then I can't go to my messages.
In Start, Settings, System, TouchFLO, there is no setting to remove this screen.
I tried HKLM->Software->HTC->EnlargeTitleBar->Enable=0 without success.
Is it something that comes with WM6.1?
Is it Telus ROM specific?
Do Sprint official ROM got the same problem?
Any reg to remove this?
That is too funny

If you go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406320&page=2 and go to post #14 you can see the guide to improving GPS locks on the telus rom. I mean DRASTICALLY. From initally loading the rom I went from getting 4-5 locks maybe after a few minutes on a cold GPS start then once I changed all the settings and did a soft reset I was getting 6 to 7 satellite locks down in my basement. Pretty impressive
It's not as complicated as it seems to be in the post I made. Pretty straight forward actually and I would recommend it to anyone who wants better GPS reception
In regards to Rev A speeds. I'm in London ontario so would think there would be rev A in the area but I dont get any better download speeds. I still download around 600-800 kbps. Which is really good enough for me. I dont know if rev A actually was supposed to increase your download speed or if it improved upload speeds making Voip easier and allowing you to have data and phone stuff going on at the same time. All I know is my internet speed didnt change but Rev A was enabled.

Every time, before using this, an already established data connexion is needed BEFORE looking for GPS satellite. The GPS will not establish the connection if it's not there. A simple solution is to open Google map and move the map up to a download is required BEFORE making the GPS satellite connexion.

....................canada has a navy? is it kept together with maple syrup?
For as small as our arms forces are (navy, Army, airforce) we actually have some of the best trained soldiers the world and some of the best equipped. Little known fact No that it has anything to do with the phone!
Looks like the official Telus rom is on HTC's site now.
Yep - and it appears to be identical to the one referenced in this thread from 3 weeks ago. That's kind of a disappointment considering how much trouble the tech-naive user is going to have getting the gps to work and getting their data connection back after flashing.

Very lame.
Exact same files and version. http://www.htc.com/us/FAQ_Detail.aspx?p_id=80&act=sd
2 weeks ago I sent a support ticket to HTC stating that the GPS fix is difficult to get, mainly because all GPS assisted features (aGPS) are disabled by default in the radio (can't be fixed by a simple registry tweak). I even pointed them to one solution of many (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406320&page=2 post #14). Then no correction and not even a mention in the documentation.
I just can't imagine how many phone calls they will get from upgraders complaining that the GPS can't find satellites after 5 minutes...
