Hello friends,
Anyone knows any application that can send SMS from the GPS position that that you are from min to min ?
I would like to keep another cell phone updated with the position.
Hi,
Check out WIMP 1.2. It is an anti Theft tool which allows you to get the Position of your PDA (with internal GPS) by simply writing an spezial formated SMS to it.

Sending coordinates
Alternatively you can use MobileJustice, does the same and it's free (OpenSource) - but afaik you can't schedule, the other phone can request the coordinates.
LocationSMS also sends SMS with coordinates, but not scheduled, afaik.

MobileJustice is one of my favourite tools.... It's anti-theft tool, so doesn't exactly the requiered stuff you want.
I just posted because WIMP's the same, but afaik this one is commercial..isn't it ?
but if you add your friend to the allowed list, he can request the coordinates by sms.
No idea if there is a tool that automatically sends sms by interval...?!
Cheers

Does LocationSMS works on your device? I install it on my P3300 with WM6 but keep always searching and never get the location.

i had the same problem sometime ago - when i started tomtom, locationsms could find the coordinates - was like it wasn't able to initialize the gps ?
have you tried this way ? maybe it works for you ?
Hi,
WIMP is a comercial Program indeed. Just some options which convinced myself:
- Wimp send a message when SIM Card is replaced (sends the new Tel. Number to a predefined mobile number)
- It`ll send the current location of the "stolen" mobile by request with speed and heading directions.
- you can hide WIMP completely from all nearly all folders and uninstall lists to make it nearly invisible on the phone.
Greetings

hi can any one tell me which port the gps is on ,,i removed tom tom BC it dosen't have maps for the place im in ,,i want to use navigon 5 but when i put auto detect it can't fine it i tryed manul,, but didnt work,, any help plzzz...thx
GPS port is set to COM4 by default.
I hope that this helps.
I can get iGuidance 3.0 to recognize it on COM 4 with the automatic GPS management turned on... HOWEVER, the GPS positions are not recieved and it cannot get a fix.
Tom Tom works okay, but I'd rather use iGuidance.
Adam, when in TT tap the sat strength meter, when the unit is displaying the sat strength/ status page is it giving the individual sat numbers and signal strength? I apreciate this app is working I just want an answer to that question before trying the next idea - Mike

Yes, the GPS Status page in the included TomTom software does show the sat numbers/signal strength in addition to their relative location.
When starting TomTom at first it says "No GPS detected" then after a couple seconds it says "Waiting for a valid GPS signal.." I'm not sure if that means there's something hard coded into this TomTom versions that actually turns the GPS receiver on.
What's your next idea?
I live in Colorado and received my P3300 yesterday. I can't seem to download my free map for some reason. When I get into PIE from the TomTom app, and select the state and press Next I get the following error message pop up:
“The page you are looking for cannot be found due to unknown error 0x80072f78.”
Anyone have any idea why this would be happening? I love this device outside of this issue.

I wish I could get it to work; I've tried countless times in the past 48 hours with no luck when choosing any state in the US. Same error message.
I am running Navigon 5 with success, but the app is slow overall. Anyone get Mapopolis to run on this device? I tried yesterday with COM 4; it was trying hard to get a fix, but it wouldn't go for me with the latest version.
Btw,
Do ya guys know if MapKing will work on the device?
I'm kinda new to GPS, and wondering how in-built GPS systems will work with any softwares. Thanks
I've tried the TomTom software and it works well with this device. Microsoft pocket streets worked, but didnt seem to work well. Going to try Iguidance and see if that is any good.

I know on my HTC P3300, I have troubles getting a signal so I am came to the conclusion that I am going to need an external antenna because the built in one isn't that great.

The solution to this program is as follows:
Run regedit in your HOST computer and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services, Add a DWORD setting "AllowLSP" with value set to 0

You have to be connected to internet before you start TT and download free maps... fastest way is thru WiFi. You can also use activesync to get connected to internet.
Just wondering if any others are using this neat little app and what your experiences are with it?
I tested it on a roadtrip by leaving my trinity in my friends car with the screen off. Every few minutes I would send an sms to my trinity and it would reply with my friends coordinates. I would then input his coordinates into my PNA to see where he was. Worked great. I was most impressed by the battery life remaining on my phone when I got it back...after 18 hours and 120 or so text messages I still had 80% battery remaining.
Anyone else use it? What are your thoughts?

Do you need to activate the built-in GPS through it, or would VitoFindMe start it by itself?
I'm asking because this could be a nice way to keep an eye on the kids, or if my trinity gets stolen.
Thanks for the tip anyway.

It runs on the today screen and always runs as long as it's on the today screen. You can also specify gps settings manually or have it detect. The only catch is you have to activate the product or you will have to soft reset after sending coordinates 3 times. Activation is free btw.

You only need to configure the keyword, when you send an sms with that keyword vito will reply with the current location as soon as it gets a gps fix:
" Go to http://maps.google.com and input "38.7093 -9.14376" into search box "
You may want to disable the sent message notification, and hide the vito plugin on a pocket breeze tab so that it isn't clearly visible that the device is running it, otherwise whoever finds the device will immediately read the scrolling message on the today screen: "Attention, VITO FindMe is installed! This phone can be located via SMS"
Thank you for your imputs. Can't the scrolling message just be hidden at the Today Screen by unselecting "Find Me" at the Today Items settings (settings>today>items), like I did, or if it gets hidden it won't work?

It just sent a SMS with the text "Unknown SIM Card" when the "wrong" SIM was insert. Just installed the cab, set up the SIM-Monitor and it was running.
Did you also add another number where to report ? Will test GPS option and report back. Cheers
Edit:
This tool is sooo coooooool, it's running perfect, sending me GPS coordinates and does everything i want!
Send SMS with password and command - Just enable Remote monitor, and enable everything
Examples:
Pass phrase = zlo, RMon enabled, GPS and MsgBox commands allowed
If you want to get GPS coordinates you should send next SMS message:
zlo +g
If you want phone to display message box you should send next SMS message:
zlo +m preved!!!
To perform both task simultaneously
zlo +g +m preved!!!

Hey Rambo,
I don't understand what's exactly your problem, sorry....
For me it was running as expected. After reading the readme everything was doing the way it should. I just added my SIM as allowed and a friends number to report to.
Then i put in another SIM - my friend got an SMS with the number.
Now he was able to reply with my password and command (for example: +g) - one minute later he got an sms with the coordinates. Everything works really fine on my device, and he could ask for the coordinates whenever he wanted - he always got an answer.
Cheers

Hi,
I have thought about using this but is part of its usefulness is hopefully to prevent anyone using the phone with another sim. I know it may tell you where the phone is as well.
That leads me to my question. Does it prevent a scummy theif going into bootloader and romming the phone, thus bypassing any lock?

I am not an expert but from the forum,i read u can put it in extended ROM so,can't be ROMMed.
Guys/Girls since we are equipped with an expensive piece of phone i guess this software is very useful! After all its Totally FREE!
Check it out! it is released by a guy called "Joubert Vasconcelos"
on XDA he is known as 'joubertvasc'!
I guess we all should have this on our HDs i have on mine already totally awesome and working!
this is where you can download the app.
http://remotetracker.sourceforge.net/
this is where you find support
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=394203
A word from the Original Site:
"This is an Antitheft software and you can use it to track your Windows Mobile device when it was lost or stolen.
It works catching a formated SMS sent from any phone, MSN, AIM or web sites and then send useful informations back. These informations can have GPS coordinates, list os contacts, owner informations and more.
You can use it to others objectives, like keep your eyes in your child. Use your imagination!
To use all features RemoteTracker has, your device must have GPS and GSM capabilities. If your device does not have a built in GPS receiver, you can get the position based on the Cell Tower it is answering. Please visit OpenCellClient project for more details.
If the thief change your SIM card, you will receive a SMS alerting you and you still can track your device. All you need to do is set an emergency cel number."
Enjoy!
i've been using this app.. really great stuff
UPS this is COOOL !!
I am always hanging around with an expensive piece of hardware, you´re damn right !!!
This will help to make me feel more comfortable with my SEX1
THANKS !!!
you are welcome!

Yeah they should actually. the guy who made this app is even giving out code to have it cooked in Roms.
My only question is even if they do cook this into roms, after a hard reset by the guy who steals the phone how will the settings be loaded again to the program? (such as the Number to SmS) hmm.. if they have a workaround on this too it will be so great!
for true tracking & protection and to be "cookable" it needs to be stupid on the device. By that I mean all it knows how to do is call home and report the phone IMEI & Location info. For example:
On hard reset it is set to run as a service in the background.
On New SIM Detection it calls home and report phone number & IMEI.
Server side has info for registered owener of the IMEI. Forwards the message to your e-mail.
If the phone was taken you can send SMS to the number to enable "active tracking" which sends location reports to home on a regular interval. All message sent home are forwarded to registered owner.
If a developer did this they might even be able to make a deal with providers so that the Call Home function is directly to the carriers and it gets built into the Stock Roms.
I use Sprite Terminator. Has the option to remove all your important data.
Usefull thread. but only missing small how to cook this into the touch diam/pro or HD ROM. The main problem is how to make that shortcut fo SMS

Hi,
I signed up a touch HD with orange UK yesterday. The first thing I did was to install TOMTOM on the machine. However, TOMTOM kept reporting no GPS device. If it finds the internal GPS receiver, then it is 20 minutes later. One thing I notice is that when TOMTOM is looking for the GPS receiver, there is something trying to connect to the internet.
I am sure I did everthing right as I was using this copy of tomtom on the touch diamond and it worked like a treat.
Did orange do anything to the GPS so people can only use their stupid orange map? If they did, is there any way that I can get the tomtom working?
Many thanks in advance.
Thank you for all your advice and the problem has been solved. Here are a few tips for people who have the same problem.
1. A-GPS can only make things worse, switch it off.
2. Update your quick-GPS data.
3. It seems that tomtom struggles to find GPS device on certain orange handset. If you are the unlucky one, try change your hand set with orange. If you don’t want to go through the trouble, open google map to locate satellite before open tomtom.
4. Debrand the handset.
5. Orange’s customer service is crap, stay away if you can
Have you tried updating QuickGPS in the programmes.
Also check A-GPS is disabled in windows settings.

Thanks, I have updated the quickGPS the first thing. I have the a-gps enabled, though it could help to locate the satallite.
I think it is recomended to be disabled.
Perhaps try it if you have not.
GPS always worked fine for me with the stock Orange ROM, that was with 1.14 though, I think they come with 1.19 now, it also works fine with all of the cooked ROMs I've tested. Perhaps the version of TomTom you have isn't fully compatible with the HD (I did notice you said it worked on the Diamond, but perhaps there's a hardware/software difference on the HD which stops it working.

Don’t blame them, that is way we are here.
My tomtom version is 7.915.9196, with latest UK and Ireland map v830.2307
but unfortunately it doesn’t support 7 point postcode system just accept 4 digit post code and in order to find the address you actually need to know name of the street as well. But I have iGO with 7PPC which it is fantastic.

thanks for telling me.
ok now for everyone which already had tomtom without 7 digit postcode, do as I listed here:
01- Downloaded the file
www.tomtom.com/updates/great_britainpostal_all.zip
02- copy it into new folder (folder's name doesn't matter)
03- extract it.
04- click on setup.exe
05- choose "i agree" then click next.
06- choose Pocket PC (Windows CE)
07- choose install Tom Tom Great Britin Postcode then click next.
08- choose other location (Advanced)
09- choose Folder on the computer
10- select any folder you want
the software will generate a zip folder
after getting the zip folder move it to your SD card's Root
start TOM TOM you will be able to do a full 7 digit postcode search.

it shouldn't be like that, when I had Stock ROM on my HD I used to had similar problem beside long waiting time before tomtom finds signal (about 15 ~ 20s) but after flashing HD with Custom ROM every problem is gone, now it finds signal in less than 5 second

Exactly what I was going to say.. I had the same problem with mine running 7.9something. If you run google maps in the backgroungd it almost jump started the gps. I have also found that once you get a gps signal it seems to keep it easier..... dunno if thats just hopeful. Oh yes and I am on Orange too stock rom.
