Why was this phone advertised with a 50MP camera but you only get a 12MP shot. Highly disappointing.

You are right about pixel binning however they don't lock it down by hardware like Google meaning no one is ever going to get a 50MB image from this, as MKHD said they shouldn't have called it a 50MB camera when its locked at 12

I get close to 30w wirelessly (27w-28w) charging with pixel Stand 2 for some time before it goes down to 23-21 when the battery level increases

This. This is what almost drove me to another phone. Yea I know Samsung and apple are also around the same terribly slow charging speed, but when you have numerous other brands charging 60 - 80w and soon a whooping 150w device coming from OnePlus, 23w is absolutely pathetic. They really couldn't have done better?

Besides a binned 12MP is ample and looks better than 12MP

For the price point? Probably not. I mean, I got my P6P for 800. The equivalent Samsung phone at the time (with the same storage capacity since they no longer support MicroSD expansion) was 1500!!! Nearly double the price! But, I already had that Samsung device, sold it for around 800 and was then able to get the P6P without having to spend any additional money =D.
So, although this Pixel series has more bugs than any of the previous Pixel series' that I have dealt with, its still got a better software interface and has full customization via the unlockable bootloader - all things that are beneficial to nerds like me =P.

I think this is the best phone i could get in this price range, specs wise. At least in my country.
Battery is good so far. Certainly better than Xperia SP, even though it has less capacity. Amazing screen, speaker is clear, good build quality. Camera is a bit meh though. Overall it's a really good phone. The only minus is it doesn't support external storage.
U r not going to have any problems with the battery. The is a excellent phone. The camera with low lighting has some quality issues, and the biggest problem is the lack of updates. We r stuck on android 4.1, the hardware is capable but the software is old, for example u can't use Bluetooth LE devices. ..
Battery will hold about 2 days, depending on your useage
Camera is best when used with another software
Audio quality is bad
The rest is pretty good, if you forget the lack of update from LG.
IMHO, I would go for a Nexus 4, same specs, fraction of the price, better support.
I droped it for 3 times and its ok!
But I bought full insurance

Well, not really. Just a realistic guy who cares about how industry and economy have led us to buy stuff that last 10 times less than things lasted before. I just want those 10 times to be reduced somehow so I study quite a lot what the perfect purchase would be among my interests.
The other phone that I was considering was actually the Xperia SP. Battery on the sp with stock rom performs perfect. We have this phone at home and I saw how it lasted 2 days using airplane mode at nights together with a moderate use along the day.
On the other hand, hardware is supposed to be worse, and actually less energy consumer -2 cores against 4. So I doubt about Xperia sp performing worse than optimus g in that field.

I think he means using third party software to take the photos. But it my experiencie it doesn't help too much since all the software use the same "limit/native values" or whatever u call them (aperture and shutter speed settings and so on) when taking a photo. So that means that, unless the "stock camera software" makes and awful work when choosing what paremeters to use, you won't notice big differences between obtained results.

OEM means "stock", like the one in the stock rom provided by LG.
The "LG Camera" is another software, found in the Play Store:

I don't know how come they called it "LGCamera", beats me! But it's not the camera software from LG!

Well I don't see where you wanna get. Actually I dont know which one do u like the most. I just see a more natural color but a much more noisy shot than with the second one.
Where I want to go is that you can get those 2 results with both app cameras, playing around with manual settings. The problem is that 90% of people don't use them and just press the butom and take the photo.
So what makes the difference when choosing one app instead the other is actually depending only on how the automatic mode works..
In part, I know I can get a better quality on the OEM software using custom ISO settings, but the image will get blurry easely, which is not realy an option unless you take "still subjects".
The grainy feel on the first one is realy beyond what I could consider an "average" quality.

I wish the g5 had better battery life than the g4.... But it isn't looking like it so far.
Maybe there'll be an extended battery friend.
Still hoping for a bigger 5.5 model like the 2 paired galaxy's and iPhones
well ,right now i'm not looking to upgrade from G4 . Is still an amazing phone ,so far i had no issues and i hope it wont be (due to bootloops problem) ,currently with S/N 602.
I don't see any benefits to upgrade to g5 or s7/s7 edge. I still don't see the point on doing that ,if we are talking in terms of perfomance /camera /etc. I will be waiting Lg G6 ,maybe next year i will upgrade not sure yet .
I'll be tuning in on HTC tomorrow, as that is the most likely candidate for my upgrade. I'm out of the LG game. The G4 was a mess and I'm not fond of the G5.
I'd also like to check out a Huawei Mate 8 but that is a little hard to come by here.
In my case.... I haven't had any issues at all
mine is a h815 sn506
Would gladly keep it if I could be sure that it wouldn't boot loop
V10 is almost the price of a new s7 here otherwise I would have bought one.
The s7 edge is impressive but I really though the screen curve is gimmicky and makes the phone unnecessarily fragile.
Would get a mate 8 if it was easy to get my hands on one

I have a euro model (815) but actually from .... There is no officially licensed lg reseller or service center here.
So if I have any issues my g4 will end up being a brick most likely.
I actually depend on it for work.
I like this phone as it's like the traditional androids with the removable battery and SD.
I've also taken around 2400 photos with the main camera in that time..... As I think the product so good that my mirrorless camera stays at home most times now.
I also think that sealed batteries make devices "disposable" forcing you to inevitably upgrade and also continuing to growing e-rubbish. It's really sad to me that most consumers accept that sealed batteries are more the norm than the exception now.
No LG here in Trinidad officially but there are official Apple, and Samsung stores.
I wish the Android would just make the same phone all regions so we wouldn't have this problem with matching parts and regional warranties. I honestly don't understand why there are so many different model numbers of just the g4 alone
I've gone to the GS7. I did enjoy the G4 but the S7 feels like a massive step forward.

I wish you a device without lag ,cause i know if you buy samsung after 3-4 months of use cause of touchwiz you get lag on phone and a factory reset doesn't help at all . Anyway ,post some pictures taken with s7 i'm curious . Danke
Haven't taken many photos just yet but from what I have taken I wouldn't say they look hugely better than the G4. The amoled screen makes them look better on the device but on a computer it's much of a muchness. The speaker is pretty pointless on the S7 too but that's the price you pay for IP68. Day-to-day performance and amoled alone are worth the upgrade to me. I do miss the clip tray though.
I used to be in the same boat about Touchwiz but it's come a long way since the awful days of the Captivate or even the SII

Samsung has issued a new update that improves things a little. What firmware did this reviewer use ?
What resolution was S7 using ? 12MP or 9MP. If you want to do 16:9 then s7 is at a disadvantage. I don't know why they changed the aspect (!) The S6 was 16MP for same aspect as the G5.
The G5 has improved on details so it does not surprise me much. But i prefer to see image data than collages.
There are two advantages that will be useful to S7 users. As a convenience. Slowest shutter is 1/4 whereas on the G4 it is 1/9 with night shot.
And using a faster shutter speed with flash means you can freeze people better. Both with point & click.
To do this on the G4/G5 or even S6/Note 5 will require manual settings. Very possible just extra steps.

What is better you ask in the title ? i don't know the answer to that question other than to speculate v11. v10 was too big for me so picked the G4.
Keep your data backed up, if it happens so you won't lose much.
It takes a lot of courage to buy a phone like this when others are more available.
In India LG uses a franchise model. I had to call up several shops on their website just to find a seller that had a demo device. It took a trip into the suburbs to finally find it. Suprisingly not available in a number of big box stores unlike samsung or apple.
LG did not spend much on publicity of the G4 compared to G3. For one month when G3 came out i got LG ads on YT and was so sick of it.
I actually depend on it for work.

Fully agree with everything you said there.
In fact there is a growing trend to show that a bigger sealed battery can be as good as two replaceable batteries. S7e for instance. To make replaceable batteries obsolete. If one increases the size of the replaceble battery then there is no chance.
Sealed battery has a way to go on android. Look at the ifixit repairability table.
The G4/G5 score 8.
What does the iphone with its sealed battery get ? 7
What does the S6/S7 get ? 3 (!)
htc one ? 2 (!)
Not only are these harder to repair they are also more expensive to replace the battery so you have to lose them in two years.
It does not stop there amoled is shorter lived than LCD. Loses brightness over time. Not so with LCD.

Yeah, I'm going to need to see EXIF for that. Otherwise I call BS. I can take a few pics with my D750 and (crudely) label it "S7" and suddenly "reviews" will show the S7 as being the best camera on a phone ever. I have a G4, and under NO circumstance 100% crop looks like that (which I am assuming that is 100% crop).
Please stop the fud.
I quickly did my own "review" and I'd like you to guess which is the G4, and which is the S7e. Images attached. EDIT - Both are at high jpg quality auto mode.
Smartphone cameras these days are good, and not one is very clearly better than the other - and none of them will look pleasing at 100% crop. If you want better photo quality, invest in something not attached to a phone.:good:
Source is here and you can find a bigger discussion:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/4dmvku/comparison_shot_of_galaxy_s7_vs_lg_g4_both_in/
Both cameras are good, s7 shoots faster (2x faster), g4 is more clear at 100 zoom.
From what I've seen, nothing really worth the upgrade from g4. We still have Motorola and oneplus to look forward to but it will be very difficult to get those devices where I live so that isn't very exciting prospect. Having said that, I just grabbed the 6p with a substantial discount and I'd consider that an upgrade. If u love xda and everything root, nothing beats a nexus and the 6p is hand down the best nexus ever made

This is still fanboy fud. You first claim a 'review' and then link to reddit? Attached are images shot using the G4 and S7e in manual mode @ ISO 50 1/6th shutter auto WB jpeg fine. The S7e isn't even close to looking as bad as this nonsense from reddit. In fact, I can't even call either shot I just did with either camera better than the other. There's a limit on how good a picture will be with such a small sensor.
Not to mention that the G4 in auto mode will never shoot at those settings- I've already demonstrated that with my previous post shooting in auto mode with the samples I attached.
I like my G4's camera a lot. The G4 definitely does a better job of auto white balance, but at 100% (and greater) NO smartphone camera will preserve that amount of detail. That is DSLR territory - with good glass and a larger sensor.
I've wasted enough of my time on this...
/on topic
Don't let the quality of a camera sensor determine what your next phone is. Almost every new flagship phone these days (since the last gen anyway) is more than adequate. Go by what you want in features, root/roms, etc.

Don't let the quality of a camera sensor determine what your next phone is. Almost every new flagship phone these days (since the last gen anyway) is more than adequate. Go by what you want in features, root/roms, etc.

Denying the truth doesn't change the fact.
I'm thinking of getting a new phone and the two most appealing to me are the Zenfone 6 and the OnePlus 7 (non Pro). In the UK they're the same price for the same specs, so I'm left to decide on other features.
The Pros I can think of for the OP7 are:
OIS Camera
OLED Screen
Some Waterproofing
In display fingerprint scanner
No moving parts so greater durability
And the Pros for the Zenfone 6:
Wide angle camera
No Notch
Headphone Jack
Customisable Button
5000mAh Battery
Micro SD Card Slot and Dual SIMs
From these lists I can't decide completely on one or the other, does anyone have any thoughts as to which one would be better?
I'm completely lost too...
I too am torn!!
I've got the Mi 9 and feeling a restless....
I would say: go for the OnePlus if you are keen on the OLED, choose the Asus if you want the rest.
(Btw: you missed the dual sim card slot the sd card slots)
I'm going with the Zenfone 6. The bigger battery and flip camera alone have me sold.

In display fpr may feel futuristic and cool to play with bu a regular capacitive fpr is much more functional and faster, in other words better in the long term everyday usage. It's definitely a win for the Zenfone 6 in my opinion.

Exactly. Two idfp sensors I tried drove me crazy w inaccuracy, then u add bit dirtier hands or naturally greasy fingers and u can f*** yourself rather than unlock your phone.
That's why I'm looking into Asus Zenfone 6 or LG G8 and nothing else.
I have exactly the same dilemma...
I'm about to order it from China anyway so ... no warranty...
Kind of afraid after reading about the Zenfone here (Some people have problems with camera mechanism, some with screen on low brightness)

Could be spotty QC in the beginning for Asus. I suppose that flipping camera isn't the easiest to make.
Mine is fine though and I didnt notice flickering on low brightness so far.
There is notification led on asus and nothing on op7

How is this a pro??? More like a Huge step back..
Not forgetting Asus Zenfone 6's 4k 60fps video recording for both rear and front camera! You get natural bokeh (video too) from the camera itself, not those artificial blurring!
And the EIS seems to be better when comparing to OP7 Pro's OIS, although the video seems cropped.
I will give this to OnePlus 7,
Cons:
Headphone jack and waterdrop notch(not a con for me)
Pros:
Amoled,
usb 3.1,
ufs 3.0, fantastic camera(no ultrawide though, but how much u use it?),
OxygenOs,
amazing community support (when other phones will be struggling in fixing motorized camera. Op7 will be rocking a lineage/carbon/rr/aosip/pixel exp)
Guaranteed two major os upgrades. Android Q R S or whatever,
Stereo speakers,
Last but not least Highest benchmarks in Antutu, 3dmark, geekbench.
Zenfone might be good but it will need atleast 2-3 years in order to compete with Oneplus as they are trying what OnePlus has already achieved.
Actually community support for 7 is lackluster compared to pro model.

Has anyone in here tried the 96hz refresh rate? Does it save battery and feel quite fluid? Just wondered if it's safe to do so and if it makes a difference?
I use it. It's buttery smooth like 120hz but battery is bit better now with 96hz.
Does this require just developer options or root?

Just to clarify....does this phone only work at 120hz if you set the resolution to 1080p? This means if you use the phone with its highest quality display it will only refresh at 60hz?
If that's the case well then that's just pointless isn't it?
I was so ready to buy this phone after moving to Razer for their 1 and 2 phones which both work at 120hz on maximum resolution - but if these only give 120hz at 1080p then what is the actual point??

I think this is a hardware limitation - a software update wont do anything
I now understand why they didnt really push it as a major selling point as there would have been a lot of backlash.
I feel for those who didnt do proper research as they would have assumed they were getting 120hz at all resolutions
i think this is a major fail on samsungs part...I would have thought others on here would have felt the same...?

fair enough - i guess I am just used to 120hz all the time and didnt really affect the battery on either of my Razer phones - TBH it lasted longer than any other Samsung phone i ever owned even with 120hz on - always got a full day out of it.
you would have expected with such a large phone as the ultra that battery would never be an issue....i guess this is another slight fail - no point in having 120hz if it has such a drastic impact on battery....
yes most of us would have watched videos and know what they are getting - however your average consumer is not us loool....

No problem. To be honest, I've had the phone for about a month now and while in my opinion this is the best phone Samsung has made to date, I do have some reservations about it that don't seem to be going away. The camera performance is really not very good (more mid-range to be honest) and the inability to run 120Hz at the full resolution (or even just 90-ish Hz) is somewhat frustrating for the price paid. I'm lucky in the sense that I bought the phone from Microsoft Canada and since they shuttered all of their stores I will have 30 days to return or exchange *after* they reopen their physical locations, so I probably have another 2 months to use the phone and see what updates do before I have to make the call on whether to keep or return it. I really recommend using the phone for about a week or two at least prior to deciding if you want to keep it, with particular emphasis on camera performance that is by far the biggest shortcoming.

Yes - you are lucky you get a good trial run!!
Staggering what you say about the camera. The camera seems to be the only difference between the ultra and the rest of the range yet the price is nearly double....if its not that good then surely better to get one of the other 2 models as you get the same phone really...
Tell me - is this refresh rate situation the same with the whole S20 range (ie the normal one and the plus)? or do the others work at 120hz on max res?

The entire range has the refresh limitation. Keep in mind that other versions have smaller screens and cameras have no optical zoom. Only the Ultra has optical zoom. Samsung really bungled the camera business this year which is so ironic because that was supposed to be the biggest thing about these new phones.
I wanted to ask if anyone has heard of any further updates on when Samsung will finally enable 120Hz on QHD. If we can use this thread to post updates? Do you think they're gonna wait until after the Note 20 phones are announced/released? It would suck to have to wait that long. FHD+ is fine but we know it would be great to have these displays blasting all the way.

It will arrive when 25w charging will be enabled on S10 series phones as promised by Samsung last March.
Its a marketing gimmick.
Forget about it! It's not going to happen. If you want 120Hz on QHD you need a S21.
Every other Smartphone that support 120Hz or even 144Hz get released with that option.
WTF Samsung. You are the Panel maker and supplier to all of those company's and they manage to bring those feature at day one.
I'm telling y'all it's because of the Exynos 990. They can't enable it on SD variants and leave the Exynos users behind that would reveal and confirm that the Exynos is crap, and would result in complaints which Samsung is trying to avoid.
its not gonna happen mate - sorry !!!
that was just rumours spread around to make people buy the phone thinking they can get it later
but as you can see they have issues with [email protected] so no way they're going to release it for QHD
It's probably not going to happen perhaps due to battery concerns. Could possibly be ready Note 20 series.
Nevertheless it's a top phone when I consider overall phone factor.
I've reviewed oneplus 8 Pro oppo find x2 and initially I did notice the difference qhd and 120hz refresh rate however several days later I've come back to my s20 ultra.
One thing I would have advised samsung to screw trying to perfect million camera lens wasting millions on testing tweaking but utilize resources to focus on getting the screen right. Hit it out of the park.
Having said that I'm back to my s20 ultra now for several reasons I'll do a comparison of all three thread maybe.

There is a hardware limitation of 120hz display on s20. You can check anandtech website for the same. It will never get QHD 120. Wish they make it variable and use combination of 48,60,96,120 to improve battery. I am ok with 120hz FHD but I think due to this implementation we are unable to run many games on 120( till now) that runs fine on other devices.

Think they're referring to the Exynos version. I'm in the US, SD so no green issues with mine. I've spent a few minutes trying to replicate it but couldn't see any issues. @Nightwind Hawk did you mean to say you disabled 120 because it's NOT so noticeable or that it is? If it is noticeable, why disable it?
Not to suggest that I don't believe that one source about this being a true hardware limitation on these phones but I'd prefer a more authoritative corroborating source to confirm this. In any case, it sucks that we don't have QHD with 120 but at the end of the day it doesn't kill the phone for me.
OP8 Pro has QHD @120 but screw using a phone again with that much of a damn curve on its display. I can't stand the curve on OP phones. If OP made the display on that 8 Pro FLAT, whoa...

Guys this thread is about 120Hz @ QHD and not that green tint issue! There is a seperate thread about that issue... please discuss that issue over there.
Although who cares about this thread? Samsung isn't going to read this thread and decide to release a update.
Yeah can't work plainly due to exynos processors being unable to keep up with it.
