Anyone still using Nextbit Robin? Why, what for and any issues? - Nextbit Robin

Why:
Still using my night design Nextbit Robin. Had it since 2017 coming from a Nokia N900 which I only stopped using because community software support was fading. Always found the design to be very beautiful and hard to change phone because I am not a big fan of other phones which are all so big and just look alike.
What:
I am on LineageOS (the latest) primarily. I do not use Google Apps or root. F-Droid and Aurora Store does things for me just fine. Only during the Pokémon GO craze I temporarily switched to OmniROM for microG (OmniROM supported signature spoofing), but besides that the lack of Google Play Services never prevented any other functionality (even bank app works fine).
Using my phone primarily as OTP authenticator, for QR bank payments and occasional messenger things.
Also take pictures to quickly send them to my desktop computer via e-mail.
Issues:
- Recently switched from PIN code to fingerprint and I notice it is very troublesome accepting my fingers (especially after I shower). I have my left thumb configured once, and my right thumb x4 trying to improve it, but still have situations where it fails many times.
- Battery performance. Device seems to randomly shut off when at 50%. I might switch to a slow charger to see if that helps fix the issue, worst case scenario I have to replace battery which seems like a cumbersome process, but thankfully original battery replacements seem to be not that expensive or hard to find.

Yes I do.
In 2018 I got a problem with SIM: it was disappearing randomly. I thought it was a hardware issue and bought Blackberry Priv to be my primary phone. This was at the end of 2018. The battery was also an issue as it was dying fast. So... I've been using Priv from 2019 to 2021 and I liked the keyboard but totally locked bootloader, awful software and extremely slow permanent memory chip made me to but a new battery for Robin, flash Lineage 17 (18 is laggy for now) and now I'm using it again. SIM issues gone btw.

I use mine as a main phone.
For some google apps (esepcially Chrome and Maps) it's not as fast as it used to be but everything else works great.
I don't play games on it though.
After 2,5 year of usage my battery started to let me down and the phone would die around 30%. But then I bought a new battery at Aliexpress and still works like a charm.
For camera I'm using Gcam and I'm satisfied with the results.
For the rom I'm actually still on AICP rom of Android 7.1 but would like to change it soon.

An old tester Robin was dropped into my lap the other week and I'm in love with the design. I put a matte skin and glass screen protector on it and it's now my smart TV remote this thing is so dang charming.

Try to use it as your daily driver, it's even better !

I have been using it since 2018, then a year later phone has stopped charging.
I ordered a new power ic on Ali and continued to use it, but half a year ago I dropped it on the asphalt, which was the reason for buying a new phone.
I really like this phone, but it has a terrible battery and overheats.

Repair service - Hardware shenanigans

I'm writing this as my unofficial first post here at XDA, as a current M9 user who's faced a popular issue with this device, plus a new, hopefully worthless issue aswell.
I've had an M7 for roughly two years. Used to think it was the best smartphone I've ever held. I found it incredibly good looking and the performance was(is) amazing. Never had a problem I couldn't solve by reading threads here at XDA about issues, typically software related, that other people shared. The only hardware issue that really bugged me was the pink tint in the camera, and even that got fixed in the end.
Following this, I'm really upset that I've now sent my 4 months old M9 for repair, again, in less than a month.
First, I had the vibration issue many other users faced. With a turnaround window of about 3 weeks, I got the same device back, with vibration properly working. This was about a week ago.
Yesterday, I had to take it back to the carrier store(Vodafone Portugal) because the power button ceased function. I have no idea how that happens and I hope it's something minimal, because truly, I don't understand how a premium phone like this ends up with such bogus issues.
Here's to hoping the turnaround window is smaller this time, seeing as the problem seems tiny this time around.
Hi there!
If you are in Portugal I recommend heading to tecmagnet.com. They have this section specifically for repair services (only electronic devices) and there are some there who repair a lot of HTC's phones

Issues with screen replacement. Need help addressing repairman.

Hello! I recently broke the screen on my LG G3 (Verizon) by dropping a mug on it (for reference, I got my phone in November). Since the insurance offered to us by Verizon required a deductible larger than the cost to purchase a new phone, we decided to find someone to repair the screen. We settled on a repair kiosk at the mall (Accessories, Repairs, etc) because a replacement is a replacement, right? Well, not exactly. The phone was repaired yesterday (entire LCD changed) and I've begun to notice some issues with it. I have a list. I contacted the repairman and he claimed that repaired phones never function as well as they did when new, but he'd be willing to look at it to see what he could do (for free). And so, I would like help with diagnosing the issues with my phone so that I don't show up empty handed tomorrow, and risk being turned away.
These are my problems:
>Physically, the back panel on the phone doesn't seem to fully connect (see picture)
>There seems to be a lag when swiping. I can't Swype things as fast as I used to, and the response is slower. Also, when swiping or when pressing with two fingers, other parts of the screen respond or freeze up. Ex: "Hey, what's fowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww" when texting "for dinner." The extra letters appear almost instantaneously. Also, some things will remain pressed even after I lift my finger (like when opening apps). This is majorly annoying (and hinders my ability to play rhythm based tapping games).
>There appears to be "wrinkle" in the screen, as if the screen were made of cloth. It reminds me of the days when we weren't allowed to touch laptop screens because it would end up looking like that.
>The vibration seems misaligned. The vibration for texts isn't as solid (also it's louder), and button presses produce a very sad, shuffling feel. When in a call, the front speakers make the caller sound "robotic"
>The display lags when rotating
>The screen heats up after extended use (used to be only the back buttons)
It may seem like a lot, but really it's a collection of little things that, while not hindering the use of my phone for things like texting and calling, make my phone less pleasant to use. I have some experience with repairing my own electronics, but because I use my phone so much, I would rather it turn out perfectly than risk doing it myself. After doing some research, I noticed that most of the problems I have can be seen in iPhones after screen replacements.
Please help me diagnose my phone's problems, and come up with a solution for how to proceed. What should I tell my repairman? Should I find another repairman? Or perhaps try to fix it myself (I have no tools for this). Thank you very much and I hope the responses are swift.

Also, you may notice that the color is different than the original. The new LCD is not the Verizon version. Would this affect anything? I've also learned that my repairman has already recycled my old LCD.
Thank you!

Need advice, change screen or ditch the phone?

Hey guys. I bought my Z5P on dec 23. It had a broken screen, i replaced the screen early in January and everything was great.
Then in early February the screen would get vertical lines at times, suddenly appearing then randomly disappear after 10 seconds all the way up to 8 hours later. The screen would randomly become quite warm/hot a couple of millimeters above the on screen buttons, aswell as heat up the entire phone randomly while in standby for some reason.
On Feb. 10 the lines came to stay, they are now constantly there in darker images as well as constantly sometimes in all scenarios. The 3.5mm port is also buggy and don't work if i move (I know about the software issue, this is hardware related).
So, i'm faced with exchanging the screen again for 60-70$ or change screen and frame in one for 90$ as well as the 3.5mm. Should i just throw in a new screen or will the problems likely reappear?
I did the previous swap myself, and cant find anything wrong with the install. The screen may sit a tad bit deeper in the frame now, the plastic edges rise above the screen on both sides. Screen appears to be OEM, same quality as original in all aspects until it failed. The phone has obviously been tampered with before i bought it, its missing 1 plastic cover over the charging port so i propped that up with a plastic piece as well.
Anyone with any experience with these kinds of problems on this or other Sony phones would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
For some reason i clicked the wrong button on log in and posted with my google user.
Here is a image showing my problem on a different phone.

since you bought it with broken screen, the scientific question for you to be asked back then was
1. how did it got broken? dropped from height ? heavy object dropped on it.... in either case....
2. what else may have had got damaged inside?
My sister had SAMSUNG s4 and she dropped it , it hit on the floor and lines/bar started appearing after a while! later the screen went blank... we replaced the screen and it worked only few hours and went blank again! ,,, finally the technician told us that processor or graphic chip may also got damaged or affected so replacing chip is not possible unless you change the mother board! (which will cost $400 with labour charges )
long story short! we gave up on that phone! when the market is saturated with variety of good hardware on competitive prices...

General Really missing face unlock and active edge!

I am coming from pixel 4 xl. I really miss how easy it was to just pick up phone and have it instantly unlock when I look at it.
This fingerprint sensor is horrible! works 2 out of 10 times. I also miss squeezing the phone to summons my assisted. quick tap not working with the case I am using.. Everything else I love. Maybe they can update fingerprint software in the future...
I don't have that much of a problem with the fingerprint reader but I do miss Face Unlock. I come from and S21 Ultra and I also miss not having to press Enter after entering my PIN.
why is Face Unlock not enabled on this?....that doesn't make much sense
It was shown in one of the promotional photos...

I am disappointed by this being unavailable at lunch, I think it may appear later and I hope so too

Face Unlock on the Pixel 4 XL was too sensitive in my opinion; every time I walked past or moved my face in the phone's direction it would come on. Tbh it's a bit of a relief not having to constantly turn the screen off... And when commuting with a mask on, I find it much easier as well. But I understand that having the choice would be ideal.
I also miss my Faceunlock/Soli combi. Let's hope that Google might bring it back with the P7 / P8 ...
Best thing would still be Fingerprint (backside!) AND faceunlock plus soli and active edge. Maybe... one day...
At worst Google should provide it as an option! cheers

Well, they advertise their phone being super secure with some fancy security firms giving them big industrial thumbs up, that doesn't really work with a cheap 2D knockoff-faceunlock being available. Because of that - I believe - they will never add what people here want, at least not with the P6.
Our best hope are developers that might find some old leftover faceunlock data hidden in the files. At least concerning the leaked marketing material, we know Google at least thought of having faceunlock+fingerprint available - or it was just a mockup about Android 12 in general and it only had the Pixel 6 stock photo as background, and later on they decided NOT to use it, exactly because people might misunderstand that "muh, looks like Pixel 6, must have feature you show!!! mighty LAWSUIT incomin'!".
I completely agree. Someone in another post said it best. Google should've stayed with rear FPR and also left face-unlock. That way you don't need this cheap ass FPR that needs you to first push the power button or have lift to wake activated. It's by far the thing I hate the most about this phone. Cheap assholes
Missing them both as well. I had squeeze set to flashlight and used it a lot for quick access to it.
Yeah same here missing active edge after two years, squeezed phone a number of times then looked at the phone doing nothing, at least no vibrate reminds me this phone does not have it. Face unlock has been annoying for mask wearing but still wish it had it as an option.
The face unlock on the Pixel 4XL is actually why I got rid of the phone. It was constantly setting off the radar detector in my car
Missing it but I'm getting used to the fingerprint. I hope they bring back face unlock even if it's not as secure as the one on the pixel 4

Anyone still using Nextbit Robin, what issues do you experience?

For any active Nextbit Robin users running the latest LineageOS (any other up-to-date Android distribution is welcome too), what issues are you experiencing with your device?
Any random freezes or reboots?
Little less activity here so I decided to write. It's not my daily driver, rather its my backup. I'm using /e/ Foundation on it and it's great! Obviously the battery is deteriorating, but for its uses (emergencies), its doing great. Hopefully, whoever is still out there using this device, its going great as well! Looking like its a solid EOL from its developers as well.

You made me turn it on once again. My battery is still in a bad state, but for a few minutes I got to re-live memories I had with this phone.
Running the stock ROM, last update
Happy to see some people still use their Robin from time to time !

Stock ROM! damn! With the slim chance we get Android 12 from developers, this device has lived its life!
Yep, still use them. I solved the problem with battery from powerbank. I'm using unofficial pixel exp os on 9 android, but it's very laggy and throttly phone.

Hello. I continue to use the Nextbit Robin in 2022 and 2023. I managed to completely restore 3 smartphones out of 4. Everything has been restored to perfect condition. I also printed out a full copy of the conceptual case "in holes-grid" using the original drawings. It seems there were once sold on Ozone. At the moment I have mint and midnight at my disposal
What is included in the package:
-Original box
-Documentation
-Original, mint, flat charging cable
-The key for the SIM card
-Protective film for the display
-Improved battery, high capacity
-New Display
-Improved fast charging device
-New case
-Android 11 or 9
Rom :
Lineage 11 Mokee 11 Pixel 9
For my part I'm using robin nexbit with last lineage os ROM possible cause now no more update out the device seems to be too old to get a newer lineageos rom
The sharp corners and stiff edges still provide just as challenging of a buttplug alternative as the day I first keistered it.
