Repair service - Hardware shenanigans - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm writing this as my unofficial first post here at XDA, as a current M9 user who's faced a popular issue with this device, plus a new, hopefully worthless issue aswell.
I've had an M7 for roughly two years. Used to think it was the best smartphone I've ever held. I found it incredibly good looking and the performance was(is) amazing. Never had a problem I couldn't solve by reading threads here at XDA about issues, typically software related, that other people shared. The only hardware issue that really bugged me was the pink tint in the camera, and even that got fixed in the end.
Following this, I'm really upset that I've now sent my 4 months old M9 for repair, again, in less than a month.
First, I had the vibration issue many other users faced. With a turnaround window of about 3 weeks, I got the same device back, with vibration properly working. This was about a week ago.
Yesterday, I had to take it back to the carrier store(Vodafone Portugal) because the power button ceased function. I have no idea how that happens and I hope it's something minimal, because truly, I don't understand how a premium phone like this ends up with such bogus issues.
Here's to hoping the turnaround window is smaller this time, seeing as the problem seems tiny this time around.

Hi there!
If you are in Portugal I recommend heading to tecmagnet.com. They have this section specifically for repair services (only electronic devices) and there are some there who repair a lot of HTC's phones

[Q] Desire Z goes into coma, alarm doesn't go off.

I'm not sure if this is a phone problem or a ROM problem. I'm on CM6.1.1 for 2 weeks already. Recently the phone starts to present symptoms of sleeping beauty where it dies off and only way to wake it up is removing battery.
Situation:
I put recurrent alarm to ring at 8.30am, the phone dies at 8.00am. Happened twice within this week already...

The alarm rang while not charging.
The day before:
The alarm rang while charging.
The day before:
As you can see I woke up at 10am when the alarm failed to go off.
The sleeping beauty syndrome happened a few times within the first week of having the phone and never occurred again, so I brushed it off as breaking in period. But this is too much.
The phone is about one month old now.
Anything I can do before sending it off for warranty claims?
even after gingerbread update this problem continues, and mine is not a rooted. this type of unreliability for a smartphone is completely unacceptable. has htc any answer to it? a 500 euro device that just dies on you haphazardly?

lol that's a bit of an overreaction... This definitely isn't a wide spread issue man. If your phone is messing up, you should send it in for replacement.
OP, are you underclocking or using a screen-off profile? There could be any number of things that're causing your phone to lock up and crash while sleeping.
on another note, any specific reason why you're still running CM6? CM7 has been in stable for several months now...
no cm6 or cm7, like I said, its unrooted. there are quite a few threads in other forums regarding this problem. its just crappy hardware sold expensively, that's the sad part. even heard of people exchanging the hardware and still facing this problem, one reason why I don't think that its worth bothering to send it for repairs

I know you're unrooted. And that's why I said that you should request a replacement phone... and if that replacement has the issue, replace it again! that's why they replace it when its broken.
And like I said, no matter how many forum posts you see about the issue, it really isn't as widespread as you think.
***SOLUTION***
Buy a 10 dollar alarm clock that plugs into the wall. Never be late for work again.

Thissssss. I know custom ROMs are stable, and stock ROMs are supposed to be even more stable, but ffs I'd never rely on one as my only alarm clock.
Try turning gps off tell me what happens.... reason is I'm currious if that's the issue I have similar problems when my gps is on and never have any issues with it off.

Real Cause of The Galaxy Nexus turning itself off at random

I posted this to reddit before here, but it will probably get more exposure on this board. Basically:
I seem to have stumbled upon a manufacturing flaw in the Galaxy Nexus's motherboard battery. Because I couldn't get a free exchange, I was free to open my Galaxy Nexus.
It was my hunch that battery pulling the motherboard's battery [which is basically like a CMOS pull in a PC conceptually] to reset it and get the device to boot.
Before that, the voltage on the battery was checked and it was already down to 2.4 for a device purchased in March. There are but a few months left on this battery and would have to replace it inevitably.
After searching the internet, this has appeared to happen to many people, but has never been addressed in this manner. So, this may be a real issue where poor sets of batteries have gone onto the GNex motherboard.
Unfortunately, I did this repair on the fly late last night, so I have no pictorial evidence. My next step is to identify the battery used on the device, purchase it, and do the solder job required to install it. Of course while taking proper documentation for evidence.

Any luck with this? Mine just happened to die on me after a couple of months of ownership. After I had it looked at, the tech informed me that I'm getting some sort of short on the motherboard. This is really a damn shame since coming from an iPhone, I really enjoyed this phone for the short period of time.
Trying to resurrect the ole' Gnex that silently slipped into blackness. Did you ever find a source for these little CMOS batteries?

It seems like its a hearing aid battery. I wouldn't be able to tell without pulling it out.

No backlight - FIXED

Hi,
I had some trouble with this phone. Long story short, I worked in US and my job take a open me a plan with at&t so I can use the phone back in canada with rogers.
Since the Gpro is only available in US, I thought it was a great idea to have a ''unique'' phone.
It worked fine for 2 weeks ( led notification stop working). UNDER light use.
Then after some time, the LCD ips backlight stop working. With a flashlight I was able so see the screen but it wasn't clever.
I asked LG several time, but the moment I told them the phone is in canada, they wont help me, even if I paid with us money on us territory.
Like if I live on the moon, it took 40 minutes to get to the border....
They finally admit that some of the first batch got problem with the screen, but still wont exchange it.
F*ck them, I tried to repair it myself.
#1 - Clean the contacts with 70% alcohol. No luck
#2 - Buy a new IPS LCD on ebay . No luck.
#3 - Clean the whole device with contact cleaner. No luck

#4- Then I do remember some HP laptop and Xbox 1st gen got soldering problem, so you put it in the oven and they work again.
So nothing to loose, I put the MOBO in the oven, convection bake, 375*´F for 10 minutes. Smell of plastic and the mobo bent (use aluminium support to avoid that)
YES! It worked. But since I use the contact cleaner, my screen was blurry.
So after 2 months of testing, I bought a second screen plus the home button assembly to get my LED notification back .
But the LED notification never come back
I found a app called buttonLED, so the back and menu button flash when I got a call/sms.
In conclusion, I had 2 LG , E980 and someone give the 3D (thrill), and both got problem, software AND hardware.
I'm on xda since I have the motorolla milestone (one of the first android device) and the Desire Z. Those 2 devices still working fine, the HTC desire Z 2010 to 2014!!! Still in good shape.
LG device are poorly craft from what I saw and what I can read on xda.
I repair a lot of devices, but nothing like this one. It was clearly a soldering problem.
For all of you who can have this kind of problem, use this method on LAST resort. It may not work for you, but did the trick for me.

Issues with screen replacement. Need help addressing repairman.

Hello! I recently broke the screen on my LG G3 (Verizon) by dropping a mug on it (for reference, I got my phone in November). Since the insurance offered to us by Verizon required a deductible larger than the cost to purchase a new phone, we decided to find someone to repair the screen. We settled on a repair kiosk at the mall (Accessories, Repairs, etc) because a replacement is a replacement, right? Well, not exactly. The phone was repaired yesterday (entire LCD changed) and I've begun to notice some issues with it. I have a list. I contacted the repairman and he claimed that repaired phones never function as well as they did when new, but he'd be willing to look at it to see what he could do (for free). And so, I would like help with diagnosing the issues with my phone so that I don't show up empty handed tomorrow, and risk being turned away.
These are my problems:
>Physically, the back panel on the phone doesn't seem to fully connect (see picture)
>There seems to be a lag when swiping. I can't Swype things as fast as I used to, and the response is slower. Also, when swiping or when pressing with two fingers, other parts of the screen respond or freeze up. Ex: "Hey, what's fowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww" when texting "for dinner." The extra letters appear almost instantaneously. Also, some things will remain pressed even after I lift my finger (like when opening apps). This is majorly annoying (and hinders my ability to play rhythm based tapping games).
>There appears to be "wrinkle" in the screen, as if the screen were made of cloth. It reminds me of the days when we weren't allowed to touch laptop screens because it would end up looking like that.
>The vibration seems misaligned. The vibration for texts isn't as solid (also it's louder), and button presses produce a very sad, shuffling feel. When in a call, the front speakers make the caller sound "robotic"
>The display lags when rotating
>The screen heats up after extended use (used to be only the back buttons)
It may seem like a lot, but really it's a collection of little things that, while not hindering the use of my phone for things like texting and calling, make my phone less pleasant to use. I have some experience with repairing my own electronics, but because I use my phone so much, I would rather it turn out perfectly than risk doing it myself. After doing some research, I noticed that most of the problems I have can be seen in iPhones after screen replacements.
Please help me diagnose my phone's problems, and come up with a solution for how to proceed. What should I tell my repairman? Should I find another repairman? Or perhaps try to fix it myself (I have no tools for this). Thank you very much and I hope the responses are swift.

Also, you may notice that the color is different than the original. The new LCD is not the Verizon version. Would this affect anything? I've also learned that my repairman has already recycled my old LCD.
Thank you!

Question Bluetooth & sound problems might be associated with screen failure

Disclaimer: this post is updated to reflect latest observations
A few weeks ago I experienced having spen digitizer problems, around the same time the phone started to show problems where bluetooth audio stops working when the phone is infolded or when a call is made/received while the bluetooth headset is connected. 3 days ago the inner screen problem got worse, it would only turn on if I slowly unfold the phone and the touchscreen digitizer just straight up fails when full openned. I sent it to the nearest service center a day after and that day the inner screen is just dead. Today I got my phone back fixed, the SC representative told me that all those problems I experienced is connected to the hinge/screen and once replaced, all of it was fixed as well. Furthermore, both batteries were replaced and all the bezels too since all those are connected to the screen according to the rep.
On other note, my warranty expired 2 months ago but it's a good thing I have insurance. However, they didn't use my insurance and instead acknowledged my warranty still. This makes me think that perhaps fold3 is notorious with inner screen problems that they extends our warranty? Just my thought but I'm grateful.
Spoiler: Old Post
I've posted this on r/GalaxyFold subreddit and found out I wasn't the only one. I even found someone with the exact same spot where the dead zones occur. INB4 I don't have any case on and I made sure no magnets are even a meter near me when testing this multiple times. Coincidentally, posts of this kind started popping up starting october of last year.

Touch screen works fine, just not the spen inputs. You can find my screen recording HERE.
I saw a comment in the sub-reddit stating that the customer service diagnosed his phone with this kind of problem as an LCD issue and had it replaced for free if still under warranty. Unfortunately for me, my warranty expired 2 weeks ago. Fortunately, I have an insurance for my phone until April of this year, I'll probably wait until March before having this repaired to maximize my insurance policy.
Hopefully we find the reason why the hardware is failing, more importantly I hope Samsung fixed this on later models if the hardware failure is indeed a defect in design.
