[Q] Desire Z goes into coma, alarm doesn't go off. - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm not sure if this is a phone problem or a ROM problem. I'm on CM6.1.1 for 2 weeks already. Recently the phone starts to present symptoms of sleeping beauty where it dies off and only way to wake it up is removing battery.
Situation:
I put recurrent alarm to ring at 8.30am, the phone dies at 8.00am. Happened twice within this week already...

The alarm rang while not charging.
The day before:
The alarm rang while charging.
The day before:
As you can see I woke up at 10am when the alarm failed to go off.
The sleeping beauty syndrome happened a few times within the first week of having the phone and never occurred again, so I brushed it off as breaking in period. But this is too much.
The phone is about one month old now.
Anything I can do before sending it off for warranty claims?

even after gingerbread update this problem continues, and mine is not a rooted. this type of unreliability for a smartphone is completely unacceptable. has htc any answer to it? a 500 euro device that just dies on you haphazardly?

lol that's a bit of an overreaction... This definitely isn't a wide spread issue man. If your phone is messing up, you should send it in for replacement.
OP, are you underclocking or using a screen-off profile? There could be any number of things that're causing your phone to lock up and crash while sleeping.
on another note, any specific reason why you're still running CM6? CM7 has been in stable for several months now...

no cm6 or cm7, like I said, its unrooted. there are quite a few threads in other forums regarding this problem. its just crappy hardware sold expensively, that's the sad part. even heard of people exchanging the hardware and still facing this problem, one reason why I don't think that its worth bothering to send it for repairs

I know you're unrooted. And that's why I said that you should request a replacement phone... and if that replacement has the issue, replace it again! that's why they replace it when its broken.
And like I said, no matter how many forum posts you see about the issue, it really isn't as widespread as you think.

***SOLUTION***
Buy a 10 dollar alarm clock that plugs into the wall. Never be late for work again.

Thissssss. I know custom ROMs are stable, and stock ROMs are supposed to be even more stable, but ffs I'd never rely on one as my only alarm clock.

Try turning gps off tell me what happens.... reason is I'm currious if that's the issue I have similar problems when my gps is on and never have any issues with it off.

question about verizon replacement policy

I talked to a vzw rep last night about my replacement incredible. It's having the same problems as the last one. I've only had it 2 days. I'm having a third replacement shipped to me, should be here around July 16th due to back orders.(but you all knew that)
My question is can i replace my incredible with another phone? Like I paid 300 for the incredible, and I used the 30 day worry free guarantee for a replacement, got the same phone (incredible), used another 30 day worry free (lol), and now I have a 3rd device on it's way. If I'm having the same issues with this phone, can I just replace it with another phone? Most notably the new motorola phone coming out. I had a Moto Droid, and never had issues like this, so I figure I'll go back to motorola if it's possible.
I called vzw and the rep said "we can't do that sir, because you had your moto droid replaced with the incredible" But I didn't have my moto droid replaced with an incredible, I still have it on my account, just someone else uses it now. She said that she doesn't know because the phone isn't even out yet.
so, did I confuse anyone? Hopefully someone that knows about this can help. Thanks for reading!
You have 30 days to replace a new phone that you get with a different model phone. Since all you did was replace the same phone twice because it wasn't working correctly then you should still have the 30 day option available to you. It only makes sense.
If you ***** enough they'll give in. I went thru this with T-Mobile with a Cliq and ended up with a My Touch after 4 phones.

when i was with alltel and had a tp1 it was replaced a few times due to overheating and crashing all the time, and they gave me a tp2.
It just seems me and htc phones don't get along lol.
this incredible is a great phone in some areas, but horrible in others. I'm not a picky person, but I can't deal with my phone constantly shorting out on the headphone jack and going all nutty, and starting voice dialing by itself and skipping tracks and pausing my music while i'm in the car. And that problem with the screen being non-responsive in the car mount is really bad on this replacement. Even plugged into the aux line on my stereo I figured it would be grounded somewhat, but the screen never works. The first phone didn't have that problem.
so to summarize: inc 1, horrible 3.5mm headphone jack issues when plugged into car, but no real complaints about screen.
inc 2, horrible screen responsiveness, 3.5mm headphone jack not as bad, but really annoying still.
After the vzw lady told me they couldn't replace it with a different phone I said, "well how much do you want to spend on shipping charges? If I'm having the same problem with the same phone I'll just keep returning it."
@ KB Smoka: That's what I thought too, but she said only the first 30 days I can replace the phone with a different one. I hope that isn't the case. If I have to replace it again I give up...
I agree with money226....If you dont take no for an answer they'll give in.
ya they should b able, just be persistant

you've just been unlucky... that's all
If there is no damage on the screen or on pcb should be replaced in warranty, have you rooted the phone?

Yeah, it's rooted. Unfortunately no warranty, I'm thinking to get a new phone.

Yes. But I have done some searches, this problem is quite popular, a lot of people are getting the same problem. This is definitely a faulty design or manufacturing.

I have the same problem. I just posted a thread about it. I havent rooted my phone and the problem is still there after a factory reset. I was told an app could cause the problem but already with the set up of the phone it all went wrong again. Going to contact customer service again on tuesday and see what they are going to do for me but I'm afraid it is not going to be much and they will never admit that the HOX is a huge failure and has lots of problems. This is my last HTC phone because I am really fed up with the quality and the bad customer service.
If the phone isn't covered under warranty have you tried contacting your carrier, if you got it through them?
This is CPU hardware problem. If you wish, pay over $150 to change the parts if no warranty.

if its not covered by warantee jus pop the phone open from the botttom with ur fingers and lift screen out there it a connecter on the top right of the phone just disconnect and reconnect that and double check all the ribbon cables or even keep pressed the cables and press power see if screen is back to normal. that should elimate if its the screen or the bored.

Red screen please read

I have bought this phone new about 10 days ago, and I had used official ICS, Cyanogen 10.1.3 and I switched back to stock ICS again. Cyanogenmod had problem with games for me. When I put it on ICS again, besides random reboots, sometimes phone just turned off and when I pulled the battery and put it back to turn on the phone, a red screen appeared, like red halo or something, and it dissapears over time, also when that happens the battery falls down drasticaly. It was turned off for like 15 minutes and when I turned it on the battery went from 100% to 83%. Should I return it since it is under warranty? Or is this another issue with ICS?

Sounds like a hardware defect to me. Just make sure it is 100% stock for the warranty.

I have found some threads where people said they had that red screen issue on official ICS. But since I have returned to Gingerbread (though rooted one) it seems that issues have gone away. Well the warranty is 2 years so I have some time to decide Thanks for reply...
The issue is because the phone go on deep sleep but start overheating... So when you pull the battrry thr screen is already hot..
Happen here a lot of time with different phone( i'm at my 4th phone under waranty)

Trying to revive the dead...
Hello friends..
I have owned a LG Nitro HD since April 12. From 7- 8 months since owning the phone (after upgrading to official ICS), one fine day got a dark red screen (sort of a halo). After that started getting different design patterns on the phone. But the phone used to start even after that. This occurred few more times and the phone refused to boot at all.
Since the phone was in warranty, got it replaced.
Fast forward to September-13 with the replaced phone. I had rooted the phone and had tried different ROMS too. The phone was working fine.
Again, one fine day, I saw that dreaded red screen halo......and thats the end of it. Since then the phone has not booted. When trying to boot, it shows the LG logo, but then the screen just fades away. However i am able to go to the factory reset screen using the volume and power key.
Took the phone to ATT, they said it seems to be an hardware issue. And the phone was out of warranty, so bad luck...
I tried using the unbricking methods mentioned, but since the phone is not detected on PC nor able to do anything from the phone, so I have lost any hopes to revive.
Wanted to post since about a month, but was reluctant. Just saw this thread and thought of seeking if there is any sort of solution to this.
Here is the one of the pattern screen that i see on my phone.

:crying::crying:
my device is just 10-day old and after a week of using it.. the notification shown on the picture keeps on showing then it will shut down even though the device is not hot nor warm..
I dont know what are the causes of this.. I just remember that it is all okay the last time I used it and when i woke up to check the time, it isalready off. when i switch it on, it shuts down after a few minute.
I tried to reset it to factory seetings, i've even tried to install app-killers.. but it doesnt have any effect...
any idea about this? thank you so much!
You could use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mtorres.phonetester&hl=de to check the temperature of the battery, maybe the readings are completely off (maybe there's a way to do this without an app, I just like it).
/e: maybe *#*#4636#*#* works as well
help
my battery's temperature is okay... it shuts down even if the device is not hot
I tried to reformat it or repair via PC companion.. the issue still comes back after a couple of days:crying:
Contact Sony, that's probably a warranty issue then.

Hey,
I'm exactly experiencing the same problem...even worse! I bough my phone 1 month ago, everything was fine, till two days ago...I cannot keep the phone on for more than 1-3 minutes! it's switched off due to getting hot! i installed that buttery tester, it shows how fast (in seconds) the phone is getting hot! what should we do? is it a hardware problem? or caused by KitKat 4.4.4.?
Have you tried the hard reset button on phone?
It has cured the weirdest problems i've had.
having the same problem here.. i cant even start my phone.. please someone help..
please help us please..thanks
Overheating
I'm faced with the same problem. Replacing the battery on used one didn't solve it. I tried to freeze my phone in fridge, eventually I succeed and it turns on, I install program to check battery temperature and found an interesting moment. Temperature began rising from 10 till 25 evenly in 2 or 3 minutes and then it began immediately jumping ~25 to ~65 and back. After few minutes when it reached 70+ phone turns off. Maybe this information will be useful. Have any ideas?

Repair service - Hardware shenanigans

I'm writing this as my unofficial first post here at XDA, as a current M9 user who's faced a popular issue with this device, plus a new, hopefully worthless issue aswell.
I've had an M7 for roughly two years. Used to think it was the best smartphone I've ever held. I found it incredibly good looking and the performance was(is) amazing. Never had a problem I couldn't solve by reading threads here at XDA about issues, typically software related, that other people shared. The only hardware issue that really bugged me was the pink tint in the camera, and even that got fixed in the end.
Following this, I'm really upset that I've now sent my 4 months old M9 for repair, again, in less than a month.
First, I had the vibration issue many other users faced. With a turnaround window of about 3 weeks, I got the same device back, with vibration properly working. This was about a week ago.
Yesterday, I had to take it back to the carrier store(Vodafone Portugal) because the power button ceased function. I have no idea how that happens and I hope it's something minimal, because truly, I don't understand how a premium phone like this ends up with such bogus issues.
Here's to hoping the turnaround window is smaller this time, seeing as the problem seems tiny this time around.
Hi there!
If you are in Portugal I recommend heading to tecmagnet.com. They have this section specifically for repair services (only electronic devices) and there are some there who repair a lot of HTC's phones
