Thank you so much for the help!

send it to HTC, nobody here knows how much it will take...

Looks like a failing gfx chip, you'll probably need a new mainboard.

Yeah, **** HTC. I'm getting a phone and will step away from HTC forever.

you've just been unlucky... that's all

If there is no damage on the screen or on pcb should be replaced in warranty, have you rooted the phone?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app

Yeah, it's rooted. Unfortunately no warranty, I'm thinking to get a new phone.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2

Yes. But I have done some searches, this problem is quite popular, a lot of people are getting the same problem. This is definitely a faulty design or manufacturing.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2

I have the same problem. I just posted a thread about it. I havent rooted my phone and the problem is still there after a factory reset. I was told an app could cause the problem but already with the set up of the phone it all went wrong again. Going to contact customer service again on tuesday and see what they are going to do for me but I'm afraid it is not going to be much and they will never admit that the HOX is a huge failure and has lots of problems. This is my last HTC phone because I am really fed up with the quality and the bad customer service.

If the phone isn't covered under warranty have you tried contacting your carrier, if you got it through them?

This is CPU hardware problem. If you wish, pay over $150 to change the parts if no warranty.

if its not covered by warantee jus pop the phone open from the botttom with ur fingers and lift screen out there it a connecter on the top right of the phone just disconnect and reconnect that and double check all the ribbon cables or even keep pressed the cables and press power see if screen is back to normal. that should elimate if its the screen or the bored.

My poor Desire :(

Today I dropped my phone screen down in a parking lot and the screen cracked in multiple places. The digitizer and every thing else work still but the plastic is cracked. I need someone to point me in the right direction towards a new plastic cover and a how-to guide on how to replace it. Thanks

Ebay, and it's not even expensive search a lil' bit there.
good luck with the disassembly/reassembly. i'm currently waiting for my replacement glass for the desire s.
Should I be looking for already broken Desires or can I get the parts separately?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
Search eBay, I believe you can find them separately. Although i wouldn't do this by myself, I'd send it to HTC... See I'm afraid that I would break something and thqt it would not close afterwards and.......
Sent from my HTC Desire
Well I find myself to be rather capable with replacing parts like that so I think I will do it myself lol I'll post back here with the end result

exactly same thing has happened with my desire too....plastic cracked but digitizer working perfect..will give it to htc for repair..dissassembly is a lil bit tedious as compared to my old nokia..also digitizer not easily available in India

[Q] HELP! - Red Screen Problem

Hey guys,
I came across a T-Mobile G2 for sale. It's in almost brand new condition. Problem is its screen.
EVERYTHING IS RED. It is so weird. Was wondering if anyone has a solution???
If there is an easy, not to mention cheap, fix..please let me know. I'd like to buy this phone.
Thanks for any and all input.

It could be a software problem? Was it like that before loading cyanogen?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I just spoke to the seller about 20 minutes ago. He says it is not a software problem. It has something to do with the internal hardware. He got the phone analyzed and was told something needed to be soldered. After hearing this, I have decided not to purchase the device.
However I am still curious to know what exactly the problem is and how/why it occurred in the first place.
Has anyone come across something similar..even with a different device?
Thanks again for your replies.

Might be the ribbon cable between the screen part of the phone and the keyboard. This is known to affect the colors displayed on the screen if partially damaged. I think its pretty cheap to buy a new cable, and not too hard too replace it. But IMO its not worth it, as there is no guarantee that this is the exact cause. Could be something else. Plus, taking apart the phone is not the easiest thing in the world, especially if you aren't experienced with that sort of thing.
Totally not worth buying a phone that is known to have hardware damage, unless you are experienced trouble shooting problems with electronics and fixing them. I'd steer well clear of this purchase.
i got this issue too.. i need the G2 as my secondary phone.
so might want to get it repair. anyone could share whether its ribbon fault or the LCD fault?
I would absolutely LOL so hard if the red screen is caused by that option in CM7 that lets you change the screen colours and such. Are you sure that that's not what it is?

Yeah, exactly. He doesn't analyze thepost hard enough.
Anyway, I notice the phone so much slower after this. Not sure is this coincidence.
Thread starter.got the problem fixed yet?
So I have the issue as well
Thanks to @ihugyou for pointing me to this thread, did any of you find out how to fix this as it has happened to my G2.
thanks
Probably needs a new LCD or new flex cable, never experienced it myself so can't say which component is more likely, guessing LCD though

Ordered Kit from Ebay
Well for $21 + $4 (tape) = $25 I have ordered a new LCD screen for my beloved G2. It has been a while since I did any type of electronic repair but I figure for $25 I really have nothing to loose.
If not, time for a new phone.
After 1.5hrs I now have a new lcd and life is good.

Screen problem. Help?

I have only had my hoc about 3 days and now out of the blue it starts doing this. It's a band about 1.5 inches wide and it doesn't have touch screen responsiveness. Here's a picture I drew in a little doodle app that shows the problem.

That is almost certainly a hardware failure. Try a factory reset but I don't think it's likely to fix it, if not, return it for repair/relacement.

send it back...go to the store or carrier you got it from. tell them what is wrong with it and they should replace it for you since you only had it for 3 days..best thing to do really

Sounds like a hardware problem. Send it for repair maybe.
thats the thing i bought this item on ebay. but i dont think it was something that he did,or that he is scaming. i think it has happened since i have had it. at any rate. a problem like this would be the digitizer or the screen itself?

Could be, have tried a factory reset? If not, try it, if so, return it.

And one question :
Did it happen after a few days from 1.29 update. Mine did so.
And here ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1617009 ) it says that :
"I just had a reply from my contact at HTC (he's been off for a few days) confirming that 1.29.xxx.11 will recalibrate the screen over the course of a few days."
May be this recalibration (somewhere else I read that it was reconfiguring the voltage settings of the display) process damages the hardware.
I forget what version i wad on but i personally hadnt upfated the phone ter. The og owner may have tho.i contacted him and he daid i could return it for a full refund.

Yes, well some people don't. But I guess you would turn it in if you hadn't rooted it.

THANKS a lot, worked for me, now i have better signal
Hmmm, wondering if I have this issue or not......
Would rather not open it though, send it back to HTC for a second time....
Is there a way to test this out say with a phone app, and I could use another android phone with the same software?

The warranty void stickers are on the screws inside just popping of the back will not void warranty.

That makes sense.
Found that out by myslef a while ago
My phone was working perfect and then a mate dropped it.
Afterwards I opened it and found out that the GSM cable was disconnected at the connection next to the speaker, at the bottom of the phone.
Was an easy and quick fix, but sucked because it was the 5th time I had to open my phone

i have a problem of having weak signal (3bars at most) and the data is always EDGE (E). The black cable as mentioned is slightly damaged because the last time i close the phone, it got stuck in between. So i am wondering if the cable my problem is due to the cable or are there any other pins? (the black cable is connected and still working but will it affect the signal?)

it depends also on your operator..maybe in your area it's not that good...

Problem solved. The black cable just need to be connected like a normal wire. The additional signal comes from the bottom lowest pin (connect the two pin together or when u fix and attach the back cover). As for me, i soldered all the back cover pin using the soldering wires to make sure all the pins are well connected. (this includes wifi, signal, data, gps, etc.)

Hi!
I have exact the same problem! After I spilled a little bit of water on my phone this part stopped working..
It is an hardware failure.
This all happened a few months ago, and it's annoying, but I can live with it. If you have to touch this exact part, you can rotate the screen to landscape mode and click the part you want to touch.

That's good to no never thought to rotate the screen! Thanks for that I havent dropped or spilt anything on my screen so I have no idea how it happened its a bit annoying.

Hi friend..... your motherboard would have to be changed or the digitizer. Had the exact same issue. If it is under warranty then replace asap....if not ...its costly.... Mine was fixed under warranty.
This was some known issue I believe last year, then it went quiet.
Regards.

Sorry for digging up this old thread, but I'm having this issue 2 times 1 a row. The first time was at the beginning of this year, I sent it to repair under warranty. Everything works perfectly until yesterday, the problem came back again. Any tips or tricks on how to fix it without replacing any hardware? I have ran out of my warranty contract and my phone is rooted so it's gonna cost me if I send my phone to htc
Bump. I also have this issue with my HOX, I'll report back if I manage to fix it.
