Replace screen before resell? - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

My P2X touchscreen randomly died recently. Now, I've had it for over 3 years and already changed the screen once and it was no stranger to drops. But I legit woke up one morning to no touch. Thankfully I had replaced my main phone and was in transition phase. With the setup-transfer of data + pics in the cloud era, it was no urgent matter, but I would like to do something with it. But now I want to repurpose it or get rid of it. I found a screen for $100 on ebay, about half the price of iFixit. Does anyone know if these $100 screen are reputable? Is it worth replacing the screen just to sell it? If I can buy a "For Parts" phone with a good screen, could that conceivably be worth it?
It's a VZW model so I would guess there's no root for it, right? Thought I'd ask...
Or is it just junk? Of note, I wouldn't mind coming out in the red (not too much) for the funsies of another phone repair under my belt even as Right To Repair is slowly dwindling away...
Thoughts?
Edit:
Unrelatedly, it seems it's been a while since I've been around here (I guess because after my G2, I have not had a rootable phone (Thanks, Big Red...)
That has a cracked and non working screen too...Not sure I ever offloaded that data...I think I have an OTG adapter somewhere...

Pixel 2 XLs in good condition are going from around $100-140 on Swappa right now. So you may be able to make around $40 at the most. Depends if that's worth it to you.
No, you won't be able to root a Verizon model. Their bootloaders are locked.

[Q] Evo 4 days old, screen having physical issues already.. Help

I just bought my phone 4 days ago, and I'm having issues with the screen responsiveness. It just freezes up at times, sometimes it thinks one finger is touching it and does the whole zoom in/out thing when I touch it, randomly issues commands, touch buttons at the bottom don't respond, and only way it works for a lil again is to touch the power button to turn the screen off and back on. I have a link attached which shows the main problem area is when a lil pressure is put near the bottom, everything starts getting glitchy. It does this with all 3 ROMs I've used, which is another thing, I have to un root it so I can bring it to the sprint store. Since it's a brand new phone, and only 4 days old so far, do you think they will just replace it with another new model, or a refurb? I'd be extremely mad if it's a refurb since it's still in the 30 days. They also added TEP to my plan which I havent taken off yet. But since this is a hardware issue..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7-sNFfQhMY
The video doesn't even begin to show all the problems, but that's one I can replicate pretty well by holding it at the bottom.
Sometimes you get a bad phone HTC isn't perfect since you are within 30 sprint will switch it for a new one no charge.
Just go get a replacement
like others have said get a replacement simple and easy

Eh, I'm on my third replacement, and gettng the last wasn't exactly "simple and easy ". Oh, and guess what needs to get replaced again due to another faulty display (interestingly this is the first phone I'm returning for the display... unless you count screen separation)?
Order a replacement, and when you get it, don't walk out of the store until you're sure the phone is working as it should.
Make sure they are not going to place an upgrade 20.00 fee on your bill.I had a bad screen as far as lifting up out of the frame from the bottom and light leaking out. When I went online a few days later to view my bill there was a upgrade fee and I had to call them but it was painless just had to give up about 5 minutes to get it done.
Just FYI
I'm really hoping when I go in tomorrow, they can return my phone and get a NEW one on the spot. I dont want them telling me they have to order it, etc, because I know they have a lot in stock. Do I just tell them I want a replacement because my screen is messing up when touching the rim of the screen? I really hope I dont get hassled. The phone is back to stock, S-ON, fully unrooted.
This video shows the issue even more. It's so bad today, I can barely use the phone

I got my replacement today, brand new, hardware 0004. My first one was 0003. I am slightly disappointed because I can tell I have the "bad" screen version. It has a much more yellow tint to it than my first one. My rebate is also going to be declined now unfortunately, and it's going to be a hassle I can already tell.
Edit: I thought I have the worse screen, but it looks a lot better than the youtube comparison video I have seen. It also fades the different brightness settings rather than a solid quick change using power control. It still is a tad more yellow I think. I hope I can root this one just as easy as my last one.

[Q] What would you do?

So, Yeah, I've just broken my DZ/G2. Screen's all messed up, and I can't see ****. I have rooted my phone and I'm really ready to kiss Bell's ass tomorrow morning.
What would you do to cover your ass if my situation were to happen to you?
I'd go to universalrepair....wait, can we plug sites? Well, my screen crapped out and I bought a new screen from an online store for about 49 bucks and now my phone works.
I never send things in for repair unless they give me a replacement unit on the spot. For a phone, i would rather order the screen online and fix it myself. If it was for something bigger, say a tv, then sure, warranty it. But for something as simple as a broken screen, its usually faster to diy it than ship it away for warranty. Just my 2 cents.

[Q] Sprint insurance-Will it cover my Evo?

Alright. I searched a bit and didn't see anything like this so here goes.
I've had charging issues with my evo for the past few weeks, I have to let the cord hang down or the phone would refuse to charge.
I got sick of it tonight and -stupidly- opened it up, thinking I could fix it.
The charging port was apparently extremely loose and completely broke off when I opened it up.
I am also rooted, Think the insurance will cover me, what with opening the phone and root?
If you google evo charge port loose/broken you will get alot of hits. Some say they get a replacement some say sprint would not cover it for them. It seems like it depends on the store. As long as you didnt mess anything up when you took it apart they shouldnt be able to tell. Some say they got a replacement even with the phone rooted, but it would be a good idea to unroot first just to be safe. Imo I would call sprint first and if they say you can get it replaced get them to note that on your account before you goto the store.
The warranty won't cover it, but the insurance should (i.e., you pay the $100 deductible). I don't think there's an exclusion for having tampered with the device, but if you're worried, you could also just report it lost instead of broken, since the insurance covers that too. Just don't try to do something sketchy like Craigslist the old phone if you do that, as they'll have it blacklisted -- just pitch it, recycle it, or find some other creative way to dispose of it. I actually don't think you even need to report it as lost though, since it's supposed to cover physical damage as well.
If you hadn't opened it up, you could have got it replaced without paying - at least at the right store. Mine was the same way, and the one I have now seems to be getting there. I had to put the phone on the edge of my table with the cord hanging down to the outlet. It's a fairly common problem. When I took the phone in, the guy didn't even look at it until he had to get information off of it. He ordered a new one through insurance, but no deductible. I picked up the new one the next day.
You can try taking it in, but if it's obvious that you opened it & the port is entirely broken off they might make you pay the deductible. The only reason I haven't taken this one in is because I use an external charger and just switch out batteries. And up until now I didn't want to get a refurb that I couldn't root.

Well there's no way I'd craigslist it. I might just use it for parts if i keep it, I'll take it to the store and hopefully they'll just replace it.
I don't really care about a deductible.
I might end up just going to assurion and having them just send one out.
Idk when your upgrade is avail but some people have said they called sprint and got an early upgrade.
Oh my upgrade is up, I'd have to pay $200, though. I doubt my evo would be worth the $150 buyback now.
EDIT: Well, $125
Since the evo has been put on the EOL list they might give you the trade in. Only one way to find out call.
Not sure if this helps but here's a PDF i found somewhere one here regarding Sprint's policy.
I'll have to call or stop by the store tomorrow, I looked at the buyback and they will buy damaged devices, so just selling my Evo and getting an E3D would be cheaper if they make me pay the deductible.
Post a pic and I'll tell you if it's covered by ESRP or ERP.

Check my sig. If the contact pads are not pulled off the board then it's a free replacement under "device known issues- Evo charge port durability". If anybody tells you otherwise they are wrong.
Alright-Here are the pictures, sorry for the horrid quality, My Evo was my only good camera so I had to use the built-in webcam on my laptop.
As you can see the micro usb port is entirely detached from the board. One of the points where it connected to the board is missing as well, If it weren't for that i could just tape it on.

correct, however since he opened up his phone, his warranty is void. The only way to get it replaced is though insurance with a deductible now.

Screen replacement?

Hey guys,
So I actually upgraded from my G2 about a year ago because of a hardware issue with the phone. I basically developed problems with the screen and it turned out the problem was the power ribbon between the keyboard and screen. Luckily, I was able to salvage my data from the phone before I basically (and unintentionally) killed the screen by poking the power ribbon to try to fix the screen issue. So for the past year, it's kinda just sat in my desk and I just feel really bad about letting a perfectly good phone go to waste if I have the chance to fix it. Only problem is that is that I don't want to drop tons of money on an expensive screen replacement so I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction with buying a replacement.
I don't want the cheapest option. I just want the best option (and preferably some instructions too!) for a screen and/or ribbon replacement and I'll gauge whether I want to restore my phone or not.
Thank you and kudos for those who are still using the phone! I miss it so much.
Can't really say how much it will cost where you live, but I find LCDs for about 20 and and flex cables around 30 where I live. Usually eBay is a good place to pick these up, being the flex sounds for sure bad I would start with buying that.
Instructions can be found with quick Google or YouTube searches

Messed up display!

I left my Moto 360 on the OEM charger overnight as I often do. When I took it off this morning, this is what I see. I have rebooted and power cycled but no change. Is this something that can be fixed, will Best Buy replace it, or should I contact Motorola? I bought it on September 25.
have you tried a factory reset? looks like your watch face profiles are corrupted.
Thanks, I have rebooted, powered off and on, and reset with no change. Guess it's time to contact Motorola.

If you got the replacement plan thing from BestBuy, yes they will replace it. I've already replaced my first 360. The back side cracked. Was no issue. Since all data is stored/synced from your phone, you won't lose anything. It'll all sync back over.

Since Motorola's warranty is for one year, I didn't bother with the Best Buy replacement plan. I haven't heard back from Motorola yet, but I wonder if Best Buy honors the manufacturer's warranty in house.
Update: I left it off the charger last night. This morning most, but not all of the white cloudy ring was gone! I thought it was all gone, but I can still see it on light screens like the settings screen. Whether it will go away completely is yet to be seen. Apparently nobody else has had this, so if Motorola will replace it, I'll let them.
Doubtful. You may be able to buy the plan now though. I got it because it covers everything except accidental breakage. You can get accidental breakage coverage for like $10 more. But any reason that it stops working other than me breaking it is covered. Plus in 2 years I'm sure you won't be able to get a new one in store and a new model may be out. In that case you'll get $$$ back and can buy the new one.
I may have just lucked out! A Motorola rep called this afternoon to say that my replacement would be delayed because the the silver with black band is out of stock. She offered several alternatives including black with leather or any of the metal band watches. I opted for the silver with the light metal band. She didn't say anything about an extra charge and I forgot to ask, so I hope I just got a free upgrade!
